Hey Nicky too! I'd be happy to adopt you, but would you mind if I wait until you have 100-150 total edits before we start. This is so I can get a feel for what you like to do, your editing styles, anything ekse to work on, and tailor your lessons and tests for you specifically. If you'd like to know your count, you can go here, which shows both your deleted and live contributions. Thanks for replying so soon. It would be an idea to wait until I have that many edits if I knew how to go about editing. The help section on Wikipedia is too big and too complicated to make any sense out of anything. It's a miracle I found the adoption section! Hmm, well, my first edits were simple, I started in the summer, so I started by updating the wind speeds and other information of tropical cyclones. After that I gradually built my way up. I'd suggest thinking of something you like to do, or a hobby of yours, and just go find an article on that and make a small change to start. Maybe a spelling, or other change. Don't just start too big though :) Sorry about not having time to do your page, it'll take me an hour or so, and I should be able to get it done tomorrow sometime. gwickwiretalkedits 15:35, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Good advice, thank you! I have got quite a few pages on my watchlist. I think I'll sit down this weekend and go through them to see what I can find. As far as my interests go, I study Egyptology and that's what I want to focus on on Wikipedia. I'd like to leave it, although Riley should know he's free to remove it as he wishes. Anytime, I was replying anyway, so I felt I should go ahead and move it to make our replies flow good. If it helps at all, for a quick CTRL+V from a Notepad (or whatever the equivalent on Mac may be), here's the keys you say you're missing, with and without shift pushed (on Windows)

Give me one minute... -searches brain- If you're on a Dell Windows computer (or I believe any other standard Windows computer) with a number pad, push ALT+1 then holding ALT push 3 (so you're pushing and holding ALT, then while holding ALT pushing 1 then 3). If you're on a laptop that has blue numbers on the U, I, O etc. keys, press FN after holding ALT but before pushing the numbers, and then press the blue numbers. If you're on a laptop without blue numbers, then you're pretty much screwed unless you have a USB, as Dell doesn't support ASCII on your computer. Hope that made sense.. I'm in that position where I don't have ASCII capabilities when I'm on my normal computer. If it works, you can copy the enter below... But I'm not sure:

I no longer have the tools to do this quickly, so it'd be great if you can. Akanland, {{Country data Akanland}}, and {{Akanland-geo-stub}} should be delinked, and the categories he's created deleted. (There are quite a few other templates as well.) I've been reverting his contributions, but in a number of cases he created the article. In such cases subbing 'Ghana' for 'Akanland' would be a start, depending on how much time you have. — kwami (talk) 21:58, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Are you suggesting a total delinking? If so, Twinkle can do that through the "Unlink" button on every article. If you really want me to, I'd probably mess it up as I'm not sure where a link to Akanland would be appropriate. gwickwiretalkedits 22:57, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
I doubt it would ever be appropriate, and I changed the article to a redirect anyway. I've been reverting his edits en masse, but I'm not going to get any more. Given his fake refs, I think an argument would be needed to keep any of his edits, not to delete them. — kwami (talk) 22:56, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Well, unless the popups are wrong, he has ~13k edits. If we do determine that all recent ones should be deleted, then I'm pretty sure an admin can go in through Special:Nuke and nuke the contribs from the past "x" amount of time. About Tildes

Hello Gwickwire. Thank you for your recent response to my re-submission of Sunstar Group. I am having a lot of challenge working the Wikipedia process, but am not giving up. I wanted to access your last message to me again, but it has been sent to archives and I don't understand the directions on how to get it. Please advise. Thank you and Happy New Year. I didn't understand your remark about tildes. The directions say to add 4 tildes to my name, but don't say if they are before, after or with my name sandwiched in between. I hope you don't mind, but I've deleted some of the spacing your message left, and made a new heading for this. To make a heading when you create a new message, put a short title in between two equal signs, like this: ==title==
About the signature, you don't need to put your name, the software does it autiomatically. You just put four tildes, like this: ~~~~, and the software automatically changes it into your username, a link to your talkpage, and the time it was created, like above where you see this: Steve Beimel (talk) 05:37, 6 January 2013 (UTC). There's no need to put your name at all, just type 4 tildes (~s) or click on the template that is at the bottom of the edit window next to "Sign youer posts on talk pages: ~~~~" to create it yourself. Questions about adoptions!

Hi what are the pro's and cons of "Adoption" on Wikipedia? Would it benefit me to go through the process? Thanks, Cjones132002 (talk) 01:22, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

The pros are that it really helps you get used to Wikipedia policy and rules (even some that more experienced users don't know/remember), the only con is that it 'can' be time consuming. However, in my opinion, the pros will far outweigh the cons. I'd suggest you look at a few courses, then pick the one most suited to your likes/schedule. Hunger strike

This is part of a series of what I see as BLP violations at Theresa Spence. She is a controversial First American who is on a hunger strike. Some of the media is trying to claim she's not on a hunger strike because she is taking fluids. My efforts to show that this is normal and even part of the more or less official defintion is being ignored -- see the talk page also - with media sources being cherry-picked to, for instance, say this is not a 'true' hunger strike because she is taking more than water. Quite a few IP addresses are being used plus some accounts. Of course, they don't edit any of the other articles about hunger strikes, just hers. Dougweller (talk) 10:51, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Your welcome, I hate those who don't assume god faith. On the topic of the AfD, I think the sole purpose of the article is for advertisement. It's purpose is either to tell people "oh wow check out this site go give them your money" or to be another form of promotion for the website. It seems to be sneaky enough to not be noticed by some users, so the AfD was closed with no consensus. Note however that no conensus usually means 'without prejudice against review at WP:DRV or relisting in the future'. You could try DRV if you think it should have been deleted, or you may just wish to wait and see in two months or so what happens with the article. gwickwiretalkedits 21:08, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

PSY RM

Only because it had gone way past due for a close, and I never said no consensus as far as I remember. It was moved to PSY (from what I could see from logs) during the move, and nobody moved it back, so I took that as another step saying PSY. I just saw this sheet of paper next to my computer that said "Remember to move PSY!" however, so I'll go move it. My fault, should probably have a more organized area. Adding references can be easy

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Hello! Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.

Adding well formatted references is actually quite easy:

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite". Click on it.
  2. Then click on "Templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in as many details as you can. This will add a well formatted reference that is helpful in case the website link (web URL) becomes inactive (dead/link rot) at some point.
  4. Click on Preview when you're done filling out the 'Cite (web/news/book/journal)' to make sure that the reference is correct.
  5. Click on Insert to insert the reference into your editing window content.
  6. Click on Show preview to Preview all your editing changes.
  7. Click on Save page. ...and you've just added a complete reference to a Wikipedia article.

Every person runs their program differently, but all of them teach you important policies and rules to help you with editing. I'd suggest you take a look at a few user's programs before deciding.
