Control copyright icon Hello 76.182.176.71, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Burger Boat Company have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:11, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to The Boston Club, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use the sandbox for that. Please do not remove citations that support the content of the article, as you did in the edits I reverted. General Ization Talk 04:10, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Someone removed my contributions from the other day, what gives?76.182.176.71 (talk) 04:13, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you fix that?!76.182.176.71 (talk) 04:14, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can discuss it with the editor who removed the content. However, posting additional messages on their Talk page when they are not even online won't speed up that process. General Ization Talk 04:17, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks 76.182.176.71 (talk) 04:19, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question, how could they edit The Boston Club if they haven't been online?! 76.182.176.71 (talk) 05:22, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

They have not been online since they last edited the article, nor since you left the first message on their Talk page. General Ization Talk 05:25, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous users from this IP address have been blocked temporarily from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.   Swarm  {talk}  06:18, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If this is a shared IP address and you are an uninvolved editor with a registered account, you may continue to edit by logging in.
Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this IP address or network has been used to disrupt Wikipedia. It has been blocked from editing to prevent further abuse.
If you are not the intended target of this block, please read the information below in order to receive assistance.
Wikipedia tries to be open, but we sometimes must block IP addresses to prevent editing by abusers, vandals, or block evaders. These blocks can affect users who have done nothing wrong. If you are a legitimate user, follow the instructions below to edit despite the block. Users who are the intended target of a range block may still appeal the block.

IP users (without an account): If you do not have an account and wish to bypass this block, an account can be created to allow you to edit. In general, these blocks only prevent users who are not logged in from editing; once you are logged in, the block will no longer affect you in any way. To request an account, simply click here and follow the directions provided on the page. It is important that you use an e-mail address issued to you by your ISP, school, or organisation, so we may verify that you are a legitimate user. When filling out the account request form, please refer to this block in the "comments" input field. If you've been instructed to request an account via email, please refer to this block in your message.

Registered users (with an account): Please make sure you are logged in to your account. If you are unable to edit while logged in, you may request IP block exemption to bypass blocks unconnected with you that affect your editing. Post an unblock request to your user talk page.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

Pushing the Tayloe family history

[edit]

You've added the exact same text about the ancestry of the Tayloe family to 11 articles in two days. This constitutes point-of view (POV) pushing. You have added it to articles where it is irrelevant, such as Mount Airy Plantation, Benjamin Ogle Tayloe House, and The Octagon House. You've added it to at least nine others as well (William Tayloe (planter), Edward Thornton Tayloe, Benjamin Ogle Tayloe, William Henry Tayloe, Henry Augustine Tayloe, John Tayloe III, John Tayloe II, John Tayloe I, William Tayloe (the nephew)). That constitues content forking.

The issue is that ancestry sections are generally not included in biographies outside the bounds of royalty and aristocracy. Even where it is potentially acceptable, it should be included only when encyclopedically relevant, while keeping within Wikipedia's notability and verifiability standards. Wikipedia is not and never was intended as a genealogy software.

I'm not the only editor to remove this POV-pushing and content-forking. I strongly encourage you to discuss your desire to include this information about the Tayloe family with the WikiProject Genealogy. Its members will be able to help you determine the best, single place to put it. - Tim1965 (talk) 17:10, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
