Australian articles
The bot hasn't updated new Australian articles for 3 days.--Grahame (talk) 03:00, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Bot may have stopped updated new Australian articles again.--Grahame (talk) 01:28, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I have made made a new articles rule set here highways to find all worldly highway articles except for Canada and U.S. as they have their own WP with their own new article retriever already. Can you give it a once over to make sure it is running OK? It didn't pick anything up yet... I have looked for more syntax errors. The search results are transcribed here when they come. SriMesh | talk 18:39, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Some possible tweaks.
- Could you make the bot output in this manner in the future? This has less whitespace and things are said in less words.
- Would it be possible to have the time of creation be placed first rather than last? This helps the reader parse the list, and makes it easier to keep track of what's new and what's old.
- Instead of {{la}} and {{user}}, could you use Article (talk / watch) and {{User0}} or {{User-c}}, or at least give the option?
Basically things would look like
instead of

New football articles
Hi mate,
I think there was some kind of glitch on March 6/7/8, take a look at the bottom of User:AlexNewArtBot/AssociationFootballSearchResult/archive25. The bot does not seem to have properly linked the articles and creators. Regards King of the North East 15:13, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- Looking at the page, it may have hit the template transclusion limit as both
{{la}}
and{{user}}
are used 1006 times, with both failing at the 955th instance. Nanonic (talk) 15:57, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, the html source for the generated page shows
<li><a href="/wiki/La" title="La">la</a><!-- WARNING: template omitted, post-expand include size too large --> by <a href="/wiki/User" title="User">User</a><!-- WARNING: template omitted, post-expand include size too large --> started at 10:45, 10 March 2009</li>
- With the preprocessor report saying
<!--
NewPP limit report
Preprocessor node count: 130608/1000000
Post-expand include size: 2047998/2048000 bytes
Template argument size: 493501/2048000 bytes
Expensive parser function count: 0/500
-->
- So it's hit the post-expand include size and then failed gracefully, might be worth splitting the page at some point to get around this. Nanonic (talk) 13:59, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Add phrase to rule list
I created a rule set for the bot to watch for new articles for the Pornography project, but the current rule set is coming up with too many false positives. How do I get it to watch for specific phrases instead of words? For instance, watch for the phrase "porn star". Tabercil (talk) 03:44, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Please check Regular expression. "porn star" might be coded as /porn\sstar/ (single space) or better as /porn\s*star/ that would match multiple spaces or no spaces in the middle. Look for the inspiration for the rules for other feeds Alex Bakharev (talk) 06:40, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll dig further into the other rules for ideas. Tabercil (talk) 05:24, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Did I set WP:GLASS correctly?
It's been a week and there's been still no pages. Is it simply because the rules haven't trigged? Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 01:27, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- No, they were incorrect. I have fixed them Alex Bakharev (talk) 02:00, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, we're not getting our reports at Conflict of interest/Noticeboard, they're very helpful, do we need to do something? Drawn Some (talk) 00:06, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Please kick the bot!
That no new articles have been created for New Zealand since May 2 stretches credibility. Actually, it would be good if the bot could "timestamp" each results page whenever it runs, even if it has nothing to add to that page. That way we would know it is working! dramatic (talk) 03:47, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

- We love the bot over at Project Gastropods, it's extremely useful, hoping to have more results soon, none since May 1st. Please can the bot be re-started? Thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 21:56, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm glad that the bot is operating again, but it has picked up only the last couple of days of new pages, so there are about ten days of new pages not reported on. I know that Wikipedia lists all new pages for the last month. Is it possible for the bot to run with an overridden parameter so it can find and sort new pages from the missing ten days? My interest is for the New Zealand pages, but I suspect many wikiprojects would like to be able to find their missing pages.
Would it be possible to find someone else to run the bot when Alex Bakharev is on holiday. Even if we can get the missing pages in arrears, it would be better to get the new pages every day.-gadfium 01:17, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ditto for WP:PLANTS! I depend on this bot to report new articles. It's so useful; thanks for running it. I'd love to get the missing days, if possible. --Rkitko (talk) 01:33, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Me too, if it's possible to get results for new gastropod articles for the missing days that would be great. Thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 23:47, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- For example, in yesterday's batch there were two significant hoax articles which would probably have slipped through if not for the bot finding them. dramatic (talk) 01:59, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
And we seem to be stuck again! dramatic (talk) 08:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Hello, I have basically the same question as some of the previous editors. I was going through the backlog of new articles for WP:SWEDEN for the last couple of weeks and noticed that while User:AlexNewArtBot/SwedenSearchResult/archive10 stretches to May 2, User:AlexNewArtBot/SwedenSearchResult/archive11 doesn't start until 12 May. I first assumed an archiving glitch, but I now realise that no results were produced in User:AlexNewArtBot/SwedenSearchResult for that period of time. Even though some time has passed, if there is a way to produce these results and add them to the Project-specific archives, that would be very useful! These lists really are very valuable to the projects! Tomas e (talk) 16:09, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Mixed dates
The latest batch from the bot was put under the May 14th header, but I'm noticing its from the 18th. Just a heads up. Synergy 23:28, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Size of log files
The log files for this bot can get rather large. Every time it updates one, it saves (say) another half-megabyte into storage. Individual revisions are compressed, but even so . . . perhaps it should cap the size of logs? People can always go back to previous revisions, after all. GreenReaper (talk) 01:08, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
User:AlexNewArtBot/FungiSearchResult/archive2. Too many? Why does a bot need to use shortcut template anyway? ;) Voxii (talk) 21:08, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Missing noinclude
The bot seems to have removed the noinclude tag from the search results page for the Spaceflight and Rocketry set of rules. It hasn't replaced it since that, which is causing problems when trying to transclude the page. --GW… 08:03, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Archives
Hi Alex. Generally, I don't visit the archives, but the other day I had some catching up to do. As Dr. Blofeld was very busy in the field, the archives at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:AlexNewArtBot/WaterbodiesSearchResult/archive19&action=history the following error message is displayed in the source: "WARNING: template omitted, post-expand include size too large". I split off some of it to another page, but obviously, your bot doesn't know about it. As I already went through the new ones, I don't mind so much, but I thought I should let you know. Anyways, it's a great tool. -- User:Docu at 17:09, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
The bot is not running?
I ask because at WikiProject Gastropods we have not had any new listings since the 9th August, and today is the 12th. I guess the bot's owner is still away? I do love this bot's results and I miss them when they are not available. Thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 18:31, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Scotus & Law
Hi, I'm a member of WP:SCOTUS and WP:LAW and I didn't know it was possible to create a bot like this ... amazing. Do you know whether the bot services our projects? If not, I could speak to someone at our respective Wikiprojects, and they could write the code to get it to do so. Identifying Supreme Court articles would be especially easy. I have just come across this useful tool. I would like to get this rolling when the bot gets back from its vacation :-) --KenWalker | Talk 04:36, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- I am perplexed by an odd quirk in the way the bot results are displayed in the Current Search Results section at Wikipedia:BC/New articles. Even after comparing the report pages of other projects, I have not been able to get the noinclude bit that shows up there to go away. - I get wondering about whether it is running from time to time. At the moment, the first page in the sequence (Russia) has not been affected in 1 day 4 hours. I wonder what determines when it runs? Does it run once a day? Does it usually start at the same time? Is there a way to tell when it is not running other than looking at how long it has been since it last ran? Useful tool this bot. --KenWalker | Talk 03:13, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- I would very much like it if the bot could insert a timestamp (perhaps as an html comment) on every results page when it does run, so we know when it last ran even if there were no additions. dramatic (talk) 05:25, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

How to remove an article from an inappropriate category
Bourne-Morton Canal is showing up in the LGBT new articles bot list, which then means that the LGBT project shows up in the article's link pages. How can we remove the article from that list? Can we manually remove it? Or will those links disappear once the bot archives the list? Aristophanes68 (talk) 00:00, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- You certainly can remove any article from the bot search results. The drawback is that if an article is very new then the bot coud restore it to the search result on the next run. The bot would not do it for an article of more than two days old Alex Bakharev (talk) 02:16, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi! I just had to remove a batch of mathematics professors from the LGBT list. Any idea why they showed up? Is it because I created three articles on gay people the day before? Geschichte (talk) 10:14, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- I would imagine that the inclusion of "Matematiske fag" in the references has triggered the inclusion. Can the rules be rewritten so that the full phrase "Matematiske fag" does not trigger a hit for "fag"?-gadfium 20:09, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Bot question
Hello Alex! I would like to ask why the results in "Logs" are now formatted like "http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=SomeArticle"? In "SearchResult" files it appears correctly. - Darwinek (talk) 21:36, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I have got tired of people checking backlinks to their articles and discovering that they are linked from the logfiles of strange feeds. The last straw was the AN/I thread caused by an article about a living Muslim female linked from the PornFeedNameLog. The way the PornFeedName is set now any media personality would get to the log. It really can seriously backfire one day. The searchresults can have false positives too but they usually make more sense. Using the external link format we do not produce backlinks and because of {{noindex}} the logfiles are not searched by search machines. Thus, presumably only people with a clue would read the logfiles. The external link format is less convenient than the internal links but the difference should not be that terrible in comparison with possible BLP problems Alex Bakharev (talk) 23:31, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. - Darwinek (talk) 07:53, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

No reports since December 2?
We've had no new listings since December 2 in the New Zealand sub-page. As I've mentioned once before, it would be great if the bot could update the results page with a timestamp comment, so we would know if it had run, even if there are no matching entries. dramatic (talk) 21:17, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

JavaPlatformSearchResult
I was not aware of the way that bot works until a saw that the first 2 new articles listed had disappeared from the page. I then saw that 32.114.192.54 had supposedly 'archived' those results. Only that contrary to other projects, there is NO archive page. What's going on ?
-- Alain R 3 4 5
Techno-Wiki-Geek 20:31, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- The problem is that the bot was not logged in, but was running under the IP address you mentioned. Since IPs cannot create new pages, a new archive page could not be created even though the old results were still removed from the main results page. Perhaps Alex can address this issue to prevent future occurrences when the bot is not logged in. In the mean time, I have created the archive pages that the bot could not, so there should not be any more problems, for a while at least. Sarilox (talk) 22:27, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
