Dude, where's my Santa?
It appears you might have IfD'd my image of Nast's Santa before inserting your own. If I am wrong, please let me know. I am unsure what happened, as I didn't get any notice of impending deletion or alteration. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 19:52, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I would appreciate if you could undelete it (and transfer it to Commons, as it is in fact free of any copyright). Why didn't I get any message that it had been deleted? Not getting notified bugged me more than the image getting deleted. I didn't find out about it until I looked at the article and noted that the image wasn't the one I had slaved over the rationale for. :) - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:05, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for reinstating it, for apologizing for no notice and for the compliment. I am presuming you are an admin, as you were able to retrieve it as quickly as you did. I have no idea how to find image logs once the image has been deleted. Edumikate me? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:16, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind input and advise! My motives were misjudged as self-promotion by another commenter. That was not my intention. However, there seem to be many commenters/editors who are not interested in accessing valid information on the history of RU-486. Cristian Fleming
I added a couple sources to the page. Could you please let me know what you think needs sourcing specifically, and what sources you think are inadequate? Omotorwayo (talk) 02:12, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Your lateness is fine. I understand where you're coming from and appreciate your respectful tone. I will say this: I have yet to request record sales information with regard to Fleming's sales, but I'm sure he has sold well over a thousand records. His popularity is fairly certain in Europe, but I don't have specific proof behind that other than word-of-mouth from fans. Fleming is equally substantial as lots of electronic music artists I've see on Wikipedia. I know you could say that's an assertion of opinion, but if you look at the fact that the IDM genre in general has very low record sales, and even the artists on the most successful labels don't sell anywhere near the quantity of records as pop artists, so using the Amazon.com ranking of the artist's music is fairly flawed and inaccurate. I would also easily venture that you have never really listened to much in the way of experimental electronic music, and if you had actually compared Fleming's work to Aphex Twin's or Squarepusher's, you would see the similarity that I speak of. To go beyond that, as a music producer myself, I'm able to see the quality of production in Fleming's work that you don't see in a number of electronic music artists, including many that have pages on this site.
Also, Fleming's page was hardly a promitional site. Given that Fleming last released music in 2005, and the non-profitable nature of such rarely liked music, I think the claim that his page was for advertising purposes is also incorrect. There was an Internet interview with Fleming by an outfit called Xoxmag (which has seemingly disappeared), asserting his notability as well, but I don't have a link since their magazine has apparently ended. I'm aware that anyone can sell music online these days, and that as a result Wikipedians have to be wary of the musicians they allow entries for; however, I disagree entirely that Fleming was not of the stature of musician that justifies a Wikipedia entry. Perhaps what's most frustrating about this is the highly probable lack of knowledge that you, and everyone who voted the page for deletion, has when it comes to electronic music. I have been avidly following electronic music for over 15 years now and it's very irritating to see people jumping to conclusions on an artist based on their uninformed and inadequate opinions. I accept that if I had more proof of the artist's sales and success the page probably would not have been deleted; however, I could easily point out at least five other electronic music artists that are less popular and producing music of less quality than Fleming, yet simultaneously have their own Wikipedia entries. I really view the deletion of the article as a failure to to adequate research and a failure to be informed on the subject. This is why experts should be the only ones writing about certain topics. Omotorwayo (talk) 06:13, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- An editor has asked for a deletion review of Cristian Fleming. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article, speedy-deleted it, or were otherwise interested in the article, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Omotorwayo (talk) 05:58, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- There were references. They were correct. The arist is undeniably on said labels for music distribution and if you had actually listened to the artist's music you would hear his songs in that video recording, wherein the video is irrelevant to the audio being played. Again, this has proven to be a pissing contest where nobody knows what they're talking about when it comes to the genre. I'm sick of seeing the illogical, flawed arguments of everyone on this site. If you're so paranoid about the sources, you should e-mail the labels directly, but you'll never do that because you're just trying to win an argument as opposed to trying to find the true answer. This is why Wikipedia is a complete waste of time and if you want to do something meaningful with your life, it certainly won't happen on this website. :-( Omotorwayo (talk) 20:34, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
I strongly advise you to take a look at this. Omotorwayo (talk) 14:26, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
"I have an interest in techno, particularly the trance/ambient scene of the early 90's, among other things. I'm a fan, not a musician or musicologist, so I make sure not to make authoritative statements or claims having to do with the field. The example you have a problem with was just that - a hypothetical example. You appear to be taking offense with me, my motives, and the Wikipedia process as a whole. However the burden of substantiating the claims made in Fleming's biography lies with you, its author, and the sources you referenced. Several editors took a critical look at the article and decided that it does not comply with Wikipedia standards (WP:V & WP:N). ˉˉanetode╦╩ 20:11, 23 December 2007 (UTC)"
- Yeah, the fact that you refer to electronic music as "techno," is a dead giveaway as to your lack of knowledge and interest. Common mistake among people who don't really know what they're talking about when it comes to electronic music. Omotorwayo (talk) 15:51, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
You can block whatever you want. I don't care, but if I felt like it, I could readily use a different IP and or account to edit (with an almost unending supply of IPs). However, your gross misconduct and flawed involvement in my wikipedia editing speaks badly about wikipedia itself, and your wrongful administration is tainting what could be a legitimate encyclopedia with rigor. Therefore, I don't really have interest in helping to fix editing issues in the articles I read. There are more important things in life, and they are certainly not here. You have a photoshopped image of a lego man on your userpage, I mean, what more really needs to be said on the subject? When I'm making six figures and you're still making peanuts, I'll have to look you up and revisit the discussion about cristian fleming. 75.85.112.149 (talk) 14:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the links - very useful. There's always something one doesn't know on wiki. I think it would be possible to get a lot more art images released under GFDL if there was more assurance, and there is often apprehension as to the possible fate of them. I've addressed some of these concerns at User_talk:VAwebteam#GFDL. Tyrenius (talk) 20:38, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, so far the V&A haven't gone for releasing anything under GFDL, but doubtless some museum or other will in due course—especially when they realise the advantages. Tyrenius (talk) 01:53, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Gobsmacked! What a result! As there wasn't an answer to my post about GFDL I assumed they were still mulling it over through ten committees or had decided against it. This provides a fantastic precedent to put to other museums. I'm glad you know your way around images anyway. Tyrenius (talk) 02:14, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Question
Hello, Anetode. Just asking, why is is that the rules on Wikipedia are so strict? Why aren't there specific rules that I wish they had, such as "No newly created articles shall be speedied and/or put up for deletion?" Why is it that the rules say you can't do this, you can't do that, or even if this article got deleted and you created it yourself, you can't recreate it and someone has to do it for you, or you can't remove a deletion template from that article if you created it yourself? Why is it that you have to put a lot of "notability" in articles in order for them to not be put up for deletion (which is extremely hard)? Just wondering. I just don't know why the rules are so strict, and I just don't know what I can do, because if I asked someone to recreate one of my former articles, they might obviously keep it deleted.Kitty53 (talk) 22:07, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

A request for your consideration regarding CAT:AOTR
Hello fellow Wikipedia administrators open to recall category member! |
---|
I am leaving you this message because recent events have given me concern. When Aaron Brenneman and I, and others, first developed this category well over a year ago, we visualized it as a simple idea. A low hassle, low bureaucracy process. We also visualized it as a process that people would come to trust, in fact as a way of increasing trust in those admins who chose to subscribe to the notion of recall. The very informal approach to who is qualified to recall, what happens during it, and the process in general were all part of that approach. But recent events have suggested that this low structure approach may not be entirely effective. More than one of the recent recalls we have seen have been marred by controversy around what was going to happen, and when. Worse, they were marred by some folk having the perception, rightly or wrongly, that the admin being recalled was trying to change the rules, avoid the process, or in other ways somehow go back on their word. This is bad. It's bad for you the admin, bad for the trust in the process, and bad for the community as a whole. I think a way to address this issue is to increase the predictability of the process in advance. I have tried to do that for myself. In my User:Lar/Accountability page, I have given pretty concrete definitions of the criteria for recall, and of the choices I can make, and of the process for the petition, and of the process for other choices I might make (the modified RfC or the RfAr). I think it would be very helpful if other admins who have voluntarily made themselves subject to recall went to similar detail. It is not necessary to adopt the exact same conditions, steps, criteria, etc. It's just helpful to have SOME. Those are mine, fashion yours as you see fit, I would not be so presumptuous as to say mine are right for you. In fact I urge you not to just adopt mine, as I do change them from time to time without notice, but instead develop your own. You are very welcome to start with mine if you so wish, though. But do something. If you have not already, I urge you to make your process more concrete, now, while there is no pressure and you can think clearly about what you want. Do it now rather than later, during a recall when folk may not react well to perceived changes in process or commitment. Further, I suggest that after you document your process, that you give a reference to it for the benefit of other admins who may want to see what others have done. List it in this table as a resource for the benefit of all. If you use someone else's by reference rather than copy, I suggest you might want to do as Cacharoth did, and give a link to a specific version. Do you have to do these things? Not at all. These are suggestions from me, and me alone, and are entirely up to you to embrace or ignore. I just think that doing this now, thinking now, documenting now, will save you trouble later, if you should for whatever reason happen to be recalled. I apologise if this message seems impersonal, but with over 130 members in the category, leaving a personal message for each of you might not have been feasible, and I feel this is important enough to violate social norms a bit. I hope that's OK. Thanks for your time and consideration, and best wishes. Larry Pieniazek NOTE: You are receiving this message because you are listed in the Wikipedia administrators open to recall category. This is a voluntary category, and you should not be in it if you do not want to be. If you did not list yourself, you may want to review the change records to determine who added you, and ask them why they added you. |
...My guinea pigs and the "A"s through "S"s having felt this message was OK to go forward with (or at least not complained bitterly to me about it :) ), today it's the turn of the "T"s through "Z"s (and beyond, apparently)! I'm hoping that more of you chaps/chapettes will point to their own criteria instead of mine :)... it's flattering but a bit scary! :) Also, you may want to check back to the table periodically, someone later than you in the alphabet may have come up with a nifty new idea. ++Lar: t/c 20:54, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Kris Ife
Hello anetode,
The new entry I created for Kris Ife was speedily deleted yesterday for copyvio due to much of the text having come from his official website. I created the page at the request of Ife's webmaster, who is currently unable to access Wikipedia from her computer; and I have permission from both her and Ife himself to use the biographical info from his site. Is there anything that we can do, collectively, to get Ife's Wikipedia page back online; any text I would need to add to the page, such as a disclaimer of some sort? Or something that needs to be added to the bio page on Ife's site?
I apologize for my lack of familiarity with procedure. Could you please direct me as to what steps I need to take? I would appreciate any help I can get to restore Ife's page.
Thank you.
