INRInflation

I did play around a bit, but the way the template is created needs some tweaking.

1. Rupee values < 1 should be rendered as paise
2. I believe the template would be used mostly to calculate the present day rupee value. So therefore, was looking for a basic template {{amount|historic_year}}. This is more advanced, so maybe you could separate it into {{historical_year|amount|target_year}} and make the target_year optional. =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:33, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Easy, tiger. You really should wait five minutes before reverting and sending off accusations of vandalism. That will allow a good-faith editor to complete what they're doing. There's been an announcement to merge in the article that hasn't been responded to. If you were planning on making sweeping changes to an article, you should have attempted to obtain consensus by using the {{split}} template. Looked like vandalism to me, from where I was standing. Neither did there appear to be any previous discussion on the matter nor did you include an explanation for the redirect in any one of your several edit summaries...tiger. You're right. Apart from the notice to merge and the listing in the proposed merge page and the note on the discussion page there was absolutely nothing.....

OK, so it wasn't the cleanest process ever, but you jumped in pretty quickly before it could be fixed, with only a cursory glance over the edit summaries. You need to do a bit more examination than that before you start throwing around the vandal tag. But not to worry - you're not the only one with more power than patience. The information regarding using the {{split}} template - I'm sure what you meant was to use the {{merge}} template, right? - all came after I first wrote to you. Whooshka? Is that a technical term? No, I didn't mean {{merge}}, I did infact mean {{split}}. If you think I was too quick to judge the case, then that's your opinion. Continue doing what your doing, and no doubt you'll have the opportunity to point out to some other editor who blanket reverts anon #REDIRECT edits with no edit summaries how quick he/she was to judge your contribs (which, btw, will happen if you continue to edit the way you do). I tried to offer you some friendly advice as someone that has been on Wikipedia for close to four years, but if it's not needed, fair enough. It's no skin off my back. No, its not technical - and I'm not trying to tick you off, and yes, I agree it was clumsy edit - not all my edits are like that, but the idea was to put the edit summary in the last one, but I didn't get a chance to. Anyway its all done now - although it took all of 2 days before someone put in a notice to split back to Erech again.

INRConvert bug

Nice to see you back and refreshed. Things are fine, I've managed to figure out much of the parser syntax thanks to Ganesh. Was then inpired to write a few scripts in Perl, and will be coming out with *one very nice one* by next week. My knowledge of Perl is limited to just three weeks. I hope to release the script by 1 Sep. Would there be an advantages of having an HTML frontend? The first script does automates the work by scanning and filling in values such as image name, orientation, ISO, aperture and so on. This would be lost if it was on toolserver. As for the bug, I did notice that and fixed it immediately. It was due to the .= operator where the previous values of the description in the loop were getting iterated. Isn't manually updating it a tedious process? And then the question on maintained. If you go on a long wikibreak, chances are, the template will be forgotten. Oh my! Dubai!

Hiya, AreJay. This is my long overdue post to your talk page - in all fairness, I owed you one at least one revert ago. As briefly as I can manage: I deleted the line in question because I find it to be poor-quality writing. I should have stayed away from the term "POV" - I blame the short field offered to edit summaries and my own slipshod efforts in trying to deal with this challenge. The paragraph, without the first line, makes it quite clear that Dubai is a diverse city. The first line - cited or not - comes across as bludgeoning the poor reader with a screechy insistance of Dubai's multicultural diversity. A good percentage of readers, I imagine, would be put off by such an introduction, as it sounds condescending, and readers do not tend to appreciate being talked down to - no matter how factually correct the statement is! It may do well over on Simple Wikipedia, but not here. In short, my reasoning for the edit falls under stylistic concerns, rather than bias or counter-bias. • From a book by B.L. Rice,referenced in Kannada literature page.
• Go to web page for Vedams Books in Delhi and search for key word "Karnataka". Some of the books here may help, especially if it is in a near by library where you live.
• I had come across a book on line called "Tribes of Mysore" which may be a useful book to read.

One normally gets this sort of info in bits and pieces as you read through several books. For instance, I know that Kolar is derived from "Kolahala Pura" (land of violince, where most battles between Kannada and Tamil Kingdoms were fought) or something to that effect. Gadag was originally called "Virathapura" or "Viratha nagara" (Land of Viratha, from Mahabharata), Bankapura in Haveri gets its name from the famous army general of Amoghavarsha I, Bankesha. Thanks for the response and clarifications. It was not my intention to create any more fuss regarding the matter but only to understand the exact requirements for a name change. I read that the names won't be changed until it comes into "popular English usage". I had a problem with this, because now the whole thing becomes subjective and open to interpretation. I have no issues with wiki waiting for the Central Govt clearance after which the names would be changed automatically without any debate I suppose. In English or Kannada I say Bengaluru only. BIAL is Bengaluru International Airport. I have learnt to say Kolkata in English. Anyway, no issues with what you said. • Incorporating inflation would be tough. For 2,000 Yen in 1958, the 2,000 Yen would be converted into U.S. dollars using a 1958 exchange rate. Then, the US dollars results would be adjusted for inflation to the year 2008. If daily exchange rates histories are available on the Internet, that might be possible. As for the inflation adjustment, that might be possible by following the instructions at {{Inflation}} wraping the Currency conversion template in {{Inflation}}. On a related note, Google has a currency converter at Google finance. Thanks for your comments. problem is that most news sources are NOT NPOV. eg new york times is liberal. The fact remains that 1965 war did not result in Kashmir being liberated which was the stated objective of Pakistan. Hence it clearly was a defeat because this objective was clearly not met. Yet very few sources would state that fact and state that it was a stalemate ( implying that pakistan met some of its objectives just not all of them). it had to do with pakistan being a western ally during those years. I was just quoting what TIME article said and would let the readers make their own inference about the biases that TIME has and credibility of this magazine. I think most wikipedia readers are reasonably bright and can draw their own conclusions and we should not make any judgements for them.

i can understand if I had added that statement without providing the reference then it would not be considered NPOV. From the editors… The last newsletter was written a year ago. In June 2008, Indian Premier League was "hot" on Wikipedia, but the article about this year's IPL has attracted 477 editors, or 53% more than the previous year! Even the number of articles in the scope of our project jumped by a whopping 18,500+ articles in an year. The 3.2-year-old India quiz continues to attract old and new Wikipedians, so join in the fun! Wikipedians are organizing a meetup in Bangalore on July 4 or 5. If you are interested, head over to the page and add your name! Topics of discussion include Indian language editions of Wikipedia and Wikimedia India. RegentsPark, one of the prominent members of our project, was promoted to adminship this year. If you'd like to know who are the most avid editors of Wikipedia by number of edits, refer to this list.
