Tucson Modernism Week moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Tucson Modernism Week, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. DGG ( talk ) 10:21, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Tucson Modernism Week has been accepted

Nice short article. Especially as this is all about the visual, it is too bad the article doesn't have an image or two or three, including a logo or poster from the Tucson Modernism Week organization. FYI, if you can identify an image of theirs that you'd like to use in the article, I bet they would be interested/willing to share it for use in the Wikipedia article, and that could be done (it is slightly, but not very, complicated to get an organization to give permission in the proper formal way, I have found... could say more).
Hmm, i wonder if any of the other artists mentioned in the article have Wikipedia articles, so trying wikilinks here: Bernard J. Friedman, William Kirby Lockard, William Wilde, Sylvia Wilde, Taro Akutagawa, Tom Gist, Bob Swaim, Nicholas Sakellar. Hmm, currently the Bob Swaim and William Wilde ones are bluelinks and should be wikilinked in the article (but hmm, i see the links appear to go to some other persons of those name), the others show as redlinks currently. Likely some or all of the artists are wikipedia-notable though, don't you think? The article could show them as redlinks, indicating that an article is needed (and use redlinks William Wilde (artist) and Bob Swaim (artist) rather than linking to the wrong articles). I hope you don't mind me having commented on just about everything here on your Talk page. cheers, --Doncram (talk, contribs) 19:18, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Hey I see that there is coverage in Wikipedia already of Bernard Friedman, at least, at Hirsh's Shoes#Bernard Friedman, architect (which I found by browsing away to the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation and then browsing away from there looking for any image available for it). An exercise for you (like I suggest for a different case in a section below): put {{anchor|Bernard J. Friedman}} into that article just above the section about him, and then change Bernard J. Friedman (currently a redlink) into a redirect to Hirsh's Shoes#Bernard J. Friedman. And wikilink Friedman, at least, in the Tucson Modernism Week article. Oh, and further, put "Category:Artists from Tucson, Arizona onto the redirect page itself (I don't know if you know you can do that), so that "Bernard J. Friedman" will show up in the category.  :) --Doncram (talk, contribs) 19:36, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ArizonaArt, i visited your new page The Charles Bolsius House as it popped up in my notices, probably because you must have linked to some article I created, perhaps very long ago. I want to say: it looks great, and I'm happy you are on board contributing. I myself mainly develop articles about National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)-listed places, which this is. I see your interest is in doing more in the Tucson area, great!

Hey, I would usually add to, edit, a new NRHP-related page like this that i encountered, but can't contribute to it right now. I hope you won't mind that I'm mentioning the page and yourself at the Talk page of WikiProject NRHP, and perhaps 1 or 2 others might come by. Again what you've done looks great, and I hope you keep interested and keep up the good work! --Doncram (talk, contribs) 19:40, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ArizonaArt, I see that in the past you have edited a bunch then gone away, so I worry you might not see/read this. I would have sent an email to you, but there is no "send email to user" button enabled on your User page.
I wanted to say I am happy to see that several other editors did take and interest and develop the Charles Bolsius House article. Their discussion, over at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Register_of_Historic_Places#The_Charles_Bolsius_House, went back and forth about whether this place is NRHP-listed or not. From various documents they found and cited, they concluded it is the separately NRHP-listed place named "Site No. HD 5-26" in the NRHP naming system, with address 5495 E. Fort Lowell Rd., Tucson. And they added to the article. It would be nice if you could say "thanks" or something over there, but again maybe you won't see this.
Further, I see on National Register of Historic Places listings in Pima County, Arizona that there are at least eight other separately-listed places on E. Fort Lowell Rd. in Tucson, and a couple more on N. Craycroft Rd. Most of these show as "redlinks", i.e. there is no article yet at that name, nor has the link been redirected to coverage within some big article. One example is Post Trader's Storehouse (which currently shows as a redlink), listed December 13, 1978, with refnum #78003368, at 5354 E. Fort Lowell Rd. This is good news for you maybe, because the presumption is then that these topics are worthy of coverage in Wikipedia, so if you develop some more articles they will almost certainly be accepted / appreciated / kept / not deleted (which sometimes happens to new articles). You and/or other editors could possibly choose to cover some or many of them all in one big article with a section for each one. And if there is enough info available for a good article on a given one, it can have its own article too with more info, while still summarized in the big article.
Again, I'm glad you're on the case for covering historic places in Tucson! Doncram (talk, contribs) 03:17, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for the throughful note. Regarding the naming I contacted the SHPO and they confirmed the name had been updated with a new inventory form some time ago. I am working on updated photos that will provide better clarity of these buildings. I will def. continue to work on articles for Fort Lowell and Tucson. Many of the listed sites are also designated by the city of Tucson with more formal names. ArizonaArt (talk) 15:07, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, good, great, then I'm glad I made the overture, whew! I'll try to revisit the article soon if I can. I'm also happy to hear you've been in contact with your SHPO, and, if you'd interested or willing, I'd like to chat about some data corrections and info-sharing with them. Along lines I & others have been interested in doing with almost all the separate SHPOs, but no one has taken forward with Arizona. Later, --Doncram (talk, contribs) 21:16, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to help in any way I can. ArizonaArt (talk) 01:11, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Did you happen to add the new inventory form as a reference to the article, I wonder? If you'd like me to, email a copy of it to me (using my "email this user" link).
I noticed you added external links to the Charles Bolsius House article, which is fine and good to do. Copy of them:
  • [1] CharlesBolsius.com
  • [2] Work in Old Fort Lowell <-- link bad, goes to "Page not found", but searching at top right there on "Bolsius" gives a couple alternative pages that might be intended instead?
  • [3] Old Fort Lowell: <--- goes to "scribd" website (a pay site?) which has a copy of May 1938 Desert Magazine, but I can't scroll down to any relevant article there... do you happen to have a PDF of the full thing? Or know the title of the article within it that is relevant? It would be better to cite the Desert Magazine article... I could help get that via Wikipedia Library perhaps?
  • [4] Biographical Information <--- goes to AskArt page titled "Artist Biography & Facts: Charles William Bolsius"
One or more of those links don't work for me though. And then I wonder if the first one should be on the Charles Bolsius article also or instead, and then I see that it is there.... external links there are:
So apparently you copied from there, but copied from what is displayed rather than copying from the source code. Hmm, the links at the Charles Bolsius article should certainly be fixed up better, and the links at the Charles Bolsius House article should probably be kept only if they have information specifically about the Charles Bolsius House, IMHO.... your comment?
Cheers, --Doncram (talk,contribs) 18:54, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/LeaChar House until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.

MB 05:10, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, ArizonaArt, I hope this nomination for deletion and the discussion that took place don't bum you out too much. User:MB is a good editor and is not out to get you or anything, and I can see their point, although I also recall being quite miffed in the long-ago past when articles I had started were nominated for deletion at AFD (now it wouldn't bother me if it happens). I see the result of the AFD was that LeaChar House was changed to be a redirect to Charles Bolsius. Perhaps an improvement upon that is possible: if there is a separate section or even just a sentence or two about the LeaChar House in that article, then the redirect target could go to that place instead. Logistically, that would be done by putting {{anchor|Lea Char House}} into the article at the desired target location, and changing the redirect to go to "Charles Bolsius#LeaChar House" rather than just to "Charles Bolsius".
It has often happened for me, that I thought there was enough info available for a separate article, which I started but then found there wasn't a lot to say. And then often it is better to cover the topic within an already-existing article, and to redirect from the article i started. If more info does emerge and/or I have more time to develop what info I do have, then I would restore the article I started by going back to and editing the version of the article just before the redirect was put in place. If an AFD discussion has happened and a consensus was established by others that the topic should be redirected, I am still allowed to do that, as long as I do have substantial additional development. (If in doubt about whether you have enough new stuff, ask for others' advice/help: ask at the talk page of the redirect target (Talk:Charles Bolsius in this case), feel free to ask me personally, or ask at wp:TEAHOUSE, or ask at wt:NRHP). I hope this might be helpful to you. cheers, --Doncram (talk, contribs) 18:22, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your articles on Arizona art, artists & galleries

[edit]

Hello! I sometimes work at New Page Patrol and noticed several of your contributions on Arizona art, artists and galleries. The articles always are well written and referenced. However, I also noticed that the citations in the references/notes are usually offline. This is fine and allowed, but it would help expedite the NPP review process if your citations had links to the articles so they can be verified, and also to give our readership the possibility of going to the original sources for more in-depth information on the subject. I'm assuming you are doing the research in a library with hard copies(?)

I was just starting to review Ann Spencer (artist) and check the referencing. I was able to access those from the Tucson Citizen on Newspapers.com as well as NewspaperArchive.com. The URLs from those would improve your citations. Do you know about the Wikipedia library? WP:LIBRARY You can apply for a "library card" to have access to numerous resources, including those two newspaper archives for free. (Sometimes there is a waiting list for particular resources. The WP Library has been such a great help for me, and I thought you may be interested. Happy editing, ArizonaArt! Netherzone (talk) 21:31, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Alpha3031, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Daniel Ruiz II, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Alpha3031}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Ways to improve Gordon H. Heck

[edit]

Hello, ArizonaArt,

Thank you for creating Gordon H. Heck.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Thank you for creating this page! I enjoyed reading about Mr. Heck. My only piece of advice would be to provide (active) reference links for people to connect directly to the live articles that you have cited. Other than that? No other tweaks needed: this is a detailed, well-researched page. Cheers!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Trainsskyscrapers}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.
