Rhododendron Comment
I am at a total losss to understand all the changes you just made to Rhododendron. I am intensly suspicious of AWB which has wrecked many articles I have worked on. I took the liberty of reverting while I investigate each edit to determine its validity. For a start - why change so many references without providing justification? --Michael Goodyear (talk) 00:11, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Mgoodyear I arrived there because of a template programming variable found in the article. That is supposed to be the justification of the edit summary per long drawn out talk messages. There were two identical references that were combined into one. This was clearly obvious. This is part of the genfixes section of the edit summary. I routinely visit your articles because there are problems. Missing brackets and missing/double small tags are usually the main reasons. I fix articles that have been borked, nobody every thinks I can make a mistake too, therefore I get yelled at. Bgwhite (talk) 00:18, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for drawing my attention to this - I would have discovered this in due course since I am in the process of consolidating all citations in the Reference section as part of preparing the page for GA. Actually it is a good deal more complicated than that, yes I can see that there were two references, 2 and 35 that were identical, introduced by different editors. However replacing all Brown with Craven did not fix the problem because there is actually a reference to Brown 2006 - I think the reference name got mixed up somewhere, so I shall have to check each mention of each citation throughout the text. Now explain to me what you understand by the term template variable, a new concept to me, since you say it should be self explanatory. --Michael Goodyear (talk) 03:38, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Mgoodyear, it is always fun when cleaning up an article. Sorry, I didn't mean the template variable was obvious, it was the refs. The template variable in the article was,
{{{width|400}}}
. If the piece of code was in a template, it would mean variable width equals 400 (width=400). In an article, it just means 400. Very few people know about this and it can confuse editors, so I try to remove it. Your name is a dyslexia delight. I keep seeing moodyear. Congrats on getting the article to GA. That isn't an easy accomplishment. Bgwhite (talk) 05:07, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Your recent deletions on a film page
Hello! Thank you for your guidance on my recent edits. I had some questions regarding the deletions made by you on the Zinda_Bhaag page. The last time you deleted information (all cited with sources) about the poster, the project under which the film was conceived and the review section. The review segment was written in paragraph form with few direct quotes (all cited). The reason given by you was that the writing style was too 'POV'. Therefore I changed it and only gave direct quotes from the reviews with author names and cited sources and it was deleted again and your edit summary said that 'only positive reviews' cannot be provided. My request is to not delete but enhance the page with negative reviews or whatever other information you would like to add to it. Since all sources are cited it would easy enough for you to access all the reviews and add any material that you feel makes the review section more objective. This would also be in keeping with the wikipedia protocol, again quoted from here: WP:Dispute resolution
"Follow the normal protocol When you find a passage in an article that is biased or inaccurate, improve it if you can; don't delete salvageable text. For example, if an article appears biased, add balancing material or make the wording more neutral. Include citations for any material you add. If you do not know how to fix a problem, ask for help on the talk page."
I will try and rework the 'reviews' section again but would request you to 'edit' BUT not delete as I'm citing my sources for every thing I'm putting into the page. Thank you Kokokarina (talk) 12:26, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Kokokarina, you had 16 reviews listed and all were positive. You have *never* listed a negative review. No widely released film in history has ever received 100% positive reviews. No film has ever been perfect and when a critic likes the film, there are also parts they do not like. Wikipedia is about being neutral, not all one-sided. You also listed only partial sentences and even listed only one word, "hit" as the entire review. This give absolutely no context. The sentence might be, "This film is not a hit". One word reviews are for movie posters, not Wikipedia. Therefore, nothing was salvageable. It is not my job to do your job. You job is to add a neutral point of view. Also, reviews are rarely listed as a list. Paragraphs are recommend. Bgwhite (talk) 22:26, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
The previous review section was written in a paragraph form which was also deleted by you on 2nd July. That text was definitely salvageable. It was in response to your comment about POV' that I quoted direct phrases from the reviews. More importantly, in that deletion a whole lot of other sections of the page including the one on the poster, production company, the south asia masculinity project- all that information was lost. There was no justification provided on your part for deleting those segments- which were purely informational and cited sources. If you are an editor its definitely your 'job' to 'edit' and not press a button and undo everything. I think wikipedia is quite clear about how editors are meant to deal with neutrality and we should just follow that protocol. If you didn't care to make edits or add 'balancing' material then you should have left me a message and I would have responded likewise. If that is also something you cannot do you must at least be more discerning when deleting material. Having said that I'm going to incorporate negative segments from reviews as per your suggestion in the future.Kokokarina (talk) 08:52, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
- Kokokarina Edit summary was: "Edits were so overly POV that it was sickening to read." Everything removed was POV. You have also added copyrighted material... aka copied and pasted. You can argue all you want. But these edits have been removed multiple times by multiple people. You are also reverting multiple editors without reason or stating why on talk pages. As you are doing the exact same edits as previous blocked editors, either you are the same person who was blocked or this serves as a warning that you can be blocked for the same reasons.
- As you have reverted to a version that was clearly labeled for copyright reasons, I have reverted to the last good version, the version with no copyrighted material and no POV. I have also initiated a WP:SPI investigation as you are doing the exact same edits as previous blocked users. Any more copyrighted material added will be removed and will result in a block per WP:COPYVIO. Any POV material previous deleted but added again will be removed. It is your job not to add POV or copyrighted material. Bgwhite (talk) 09:18, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
But how is the information like this copyrighted material- or POV? These are simple facts and sources have been cited but they have been deleted by you again. Could you please explain your position. I'm providing some examples of what has been deleted by you and if you could please explain how any of it is copyrighted material.
Segment on Awards: "Zinda Bhaag was Pakistan’s official entry to the 86th Academy Awards, Foreign Film Category. With Zinda Bhaag, Pakistan made an entry to the Oscars after a gap of more than fifty years. While the film reached the ‘long list’ of the foreign film category, it failed to make the final short list of nominees.(More than one citation provided)The film won four awards for best film, best music and two awards for the acting category at the International South Asian Film Festival in Canada. It also won an award at the Jaipur International Film Festival(Again two sources provided).Recently, the film won five awards at ARY Film Awards, including 'Best Film (Jury), Best Actress (Jury), Best Story, Best Background Score and Best Playback Male Singer for Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (Again citation/source provided)." THIS WAS DELETED.
Segment on Theatrical release: "First look of Zinda Bhaag's trailer was unveiled on 18 June 2013.(Reference provided) This film was earlier set to release in Pakistan on the 6th of September but due to a backlog of unreleased films, the release of ‘Zinda Bhaag’ was postponed to 20 September 2013.(2 references provided) 'Zinda Bhaag' has been released in 11 states of US as well on 18 October 2013.(Reference provided). The film was theatrically released in the UAE on 16 January 2014 (Reference provided)." THIS WAS DELETED TOO[1]
I could provide more examples but I think that would be unnecessary.
Also despite my initiating a discussion with you here to understand your position - rather than explain anything to me you are effectively threatening to 'block' me? I'm trying to understand why you need to undo complete pages rather than the particular material that you find problematic? I think it would be better if you explained to me why and which material is 'copyrighted'. If there is indeed anything that you feel is copyrighted why don't you just remove/delete that portion- what is is the reason that you undo all the work in one go? What is most unfortunate is that you have reverted to a version which is severely dated (for instance the information on release) and with several factual errors (like the wrong names and credits) and dated citation of sources. Thank you Kokokarina (talk) 12:12, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
- There were 13-15 paragraphs deleted with the majority a Copyvio. If you don't think some material is not a Copyvio, then add it back in. All you copyright violation additions makes it hard to see the wheat for the chaff.
- Example of copyright: The paragraph, "The journey that unfolds through the story of this film gives us a peep into what constitutes the everyday in the lives of many young men and women in Pakistan ...." is copied word for word from [1], [2] and other spots.
- Alot of paragraph consist of quotes, attributed and not attributed. "Lohar and Jawwad have sung a song on love and death while Bagga has contributed his vocals to two tracks, an upbeat dance-bhangra number and a romantic ballad." is copied directly from the ref, but is not attributed. We are supposed to use are own words with occasional quotes, not 1/2 that article made up of quotes.
- I was not threatening you with a block. Just stating that the exact same edits you are making got other editors blocked. Bgwhite (talk) 20:09, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Firstly, thank you for taking the time out to explain this to me.
You will notice from the history of the page that both the examples quoted by you have not been added by me but by some other editors (See 6th June 2014 edit by another editor). Anyhow I got your point about 'objectivity' and 'balance' for the paragraph that was added by me and will follow that in future edits. Kokokarina (talk) 14:11, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Integration of Parsoid based Linter with Check Wiki
Hi,
If you recall our discussion on this thread, As a part of my GSOC project I am building a parsoid based linter. And, We are ready with a small demo. Please read this post to read more about the current state of the linttrap.
Now, As our next steps we are planning to integrate lintrap with checkwiki. It will be nice for checkwiki to have all the information that is generated by linttrap. It'll be great, if we can have a small discussion on IRC or a Hangout ?
Hardik95 (talk) 20:51, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hardik95 Hangout would work best. I'm generally available from 21z-02z, but can do 17z-2z if scheduled earlier.
- The checkwiki database schema can be found here. There are only two tables for you to worry about, cw_error (which contains the actual errors) and cw_overview_errors (which contains the meta-data). The fields are pretty explanatory, but ok contains "0" if error is not done and "1" if the error was fixed.
- One concern I have is when a dump comes out, checkwiki deletes all errors and starts again with the dump. Errors get fixed by regular user edits all the time and restarting with a dump keeps everything upto date. I'm not sure how this will work with lint Bridge. Bgwhite (talk) 23:18, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- Bgwhite thanks for the info, let have hangout day after tomorrow, 21z or any day you prefer this week?? let me know how I can send you the hangout link? Hardik95 (talk) 22:56, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

You are absolutely right in deleting the extensive section of non-released materials. A one off none released material of significance being mentioned would have been ok, but it was excessive in this case and no indication of relevance. werldwayd (talk) 00:28, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

Miracles album
This is a clear deletion case, hands down. The release is too far away, actual release just speculative, plus that the article doesn't provide any useful information about the album, just possibility of some distant release. The title is also tentative and not a sure thing either. It might eventually be named something else for all we know. Of course knowing Dappy and his materials, any album he releases will definitely chart and become notable, but we can wait for a confirmed actual release date and some useful content. No hurry. Delete please with "No Regrets", an actual great song by Dappy, thoughtful lyrics, beautiful music and performance and and deservedly a number 1 hit in the UK http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoImizvsj5w By the way, if you want a charming and hilarious interview with Dappy and N-Dubz, check this "piece of gem". Thanks for asking about me. It's nice to know that I've been missed. I'm sure you've seen the explanations at Drmies's and my talk pages. But, more importantly, I have an entertainment suggestion for you, since we have such similar tastes: the ten-part miniseries Fargo which aired on FX. I dunno if it's available on Netflix or DVD yet, but when it is, I highly recommend it. I've never been a fan of Billy Bob Thornton, but he's great in this. Windows Update Wiki
Hello,
You have recently reverted my contribution to Windows Update wiki as its being spam!
What was your criteria to consider it as a spam?
I am an IT Professional with about 9 years experience, So when i write something technical, i do it because i know something that is not well documented in the internet, or not documented at all!
For this contribution, it was not well documented in the internet, and in this wiki. So you can't consider it as a spam, if you don't understand what was written!
Mohammad.oweis (talk) 09:57, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
- We do not add a reference that not only links to yourself, but also to your business. See WP:SPAM
- We do not copy and paste from other websites. You copied from a page that clearly states it is copyrighted at the bottom. Any copyrighted material must be removed. I haven't a clue of who you are, so don't say it is your site because one can't prove that only talking to me. See Wikipedia:Copy-paste
- Your business site is not considered a reliable reference for anything except your business. See WP:SPS
- I've been an IT professional for over 20 years. Never assume. Never put one down.
- You maybe an IT professional, but you are a newbie on Wikipedia. There are rules and procedures. I can turn the tables and say the very same thing you said to me... So you can consider it as spam and you don't understand what Wikipedia rules are.
Yes, i agree with you that i am still a newbie on Wikipedia, just read the rules you mentioned.
According to the rules, my site is not a reliable reference, so i should not use it as a reference. Noted for the future, even though i am not convinced with that rule.
About Copy and Past rules, Wikipedia articles must be written in the author's own words.
As the author, i have changed some of the text to not be an exact copy of my article.
My name is on the site and in the wiki article, now how to verify that i am the same person, i have no idea.
So, i will accept your classification as spam according to the rules, which i am not convinced about them.
Thanks.

Warning on my talk page?
Hi. I was wondering why you posted that notice on my talk page... --Krenair (talk • contribs) 13:25, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
- Krenair, I technically didn't post it, Twinkle did. Same goes for the follow Speedy deletion notice that came after mine. Both speedy deletions came about because of the same user, User:Ad90189018, was involved
- This is very strange, so hopefully Redrose64 can figure it out. From looking at delete logs, back in 2012, you requested a speedy delete of Vocalcom. This page has been recreated multiple times by User:Ad90189018. The history of Call center software shows the article was created by you via that speedy delete back in 2012. The next entry shows the page being moved from User talk:Ad90189018 to Call center software. How can you create a page via a speedy delete? How can a page be created on one page and the next edit showing it being moved from another?
- When User talk:Ad90189018 was deleted from my CSD request, it was partially restored. Ad90189018 then edited the page and moved it to Call center software. So, somehow, the user's talk page history is messed up and it thinks you created it, even though the history shows you didn't. Bgwhite (talk) 07:17, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know about Twinkle, I never use it, and I've never looked at its source code either.
- But looking at Special:Undelete/Call center software, what I see is that at the time of the 12:58, 6 April 2012 edit by Krenair (which was the notification of an impending speedy delete, and not the actual speedy itself), the page was named User talk:Ad90189018. Two days ago, it was improperly moved to User talk:Call center software and the following day to Call center software. Largoplazo (talk · contribs) shouldn't have tagged it
{{db-spam}}
but reverted all the spammy edits, and moved the page back to where it should always have been. --Redrose64 (talk) 07:31, 20 July 2014 (UTC)- That makes sense. Thank you! --Krenair (talk • contribs) 14:32, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Location of references
It seems to be the policy that references should be placed after punctuation, specifically after full stops. This gives the impression that the whole of the preceding sentence is covered by the reference. It would seem to me to give a better representation of the situation if the reference is placed after the fact, rather than outside the sentence structure. Thus "Mr XXX is aged 89 and one-legged (ref here)." Tells us that the reference relates to the fact has one leg whereas "Mr XXX is aged 89 and one-legged.(ref here)" tells us the reference refers to the whole sentence. In this eaxample, "Mr XXX is one-legged(ref here) and aged 89." would be a practical alternative, but this is not always the case. Shipsview (talk) 19:49, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
- Shipsview, WP:REFPUNC is the rule for this. REFPUNC has your reasoning as the rule. The first example given in REFPUNC is very similar to your example given. The example should clear up any doubts. Bgwhite (talk) 22:15, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
Ascension (TV series)
Hi, Bgwhite! This concerns your recent edits to two refs in the article Ascension (TV series). I haven't reverted your edits, so please take a look at the way they look now (ref#13 & ref #30). In both cases, the sources have a show's title italicized and a possessive 's not italicized (as it is not part of the show's title). Ref#13 should read Ally's (not Ally's or Allys) and ref#30 should read Cougar Town's (not Cougar Town's or Cougar Towns). Especially in the second case, the whole ref appears in bold after your edits. I know it's a tricky syntax, but that's why I used <i></i> to solve the issue. If you know of a better way to do this, please let me know. In any case, at least ref#30 must be fixed 'cause it looks very wrong right now. Thank you in advance! Hi, again! Since more than 24 hours passed and you didn't respond, I decided to experiment a little.
