Turboprop? 2,500lb?

Yes, turboprops may give residual thrust from their exhaust, but surely the units for their output should not be in lbs, kg or kN, but hp or kW!!!!Petebutt (talk) 19:00, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Good Morning, No problem. Just a tip:when you post a message regarding an article, don't forget to put the article name in square brackets, that way the receiver can go straight to the subject. I shall try and figure out what i need to do to nominate it to go higher. It may be worth looking at slimming it down a little, I can see a non-technical reviewer baulking at the minutiae of Fuel mixture metering.Petebutt (talk) 00:01, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

A Weaver on the Horizon

Hi, can you also do grammar check on the plot summary of A Weaver on the Horizon? Thanks.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 13:24, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

You have new message/s Hello. You have a new message at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2012 July 10's talk page.Yutsi Talk/ Contributions ( 偉特 ) 04:46, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to the project

First of all, thank you for your interest in the Military History and Ships Projects and your contribution the the article SS John Burke. You have requested some feedback on your article and my first suggestion would be to go through the article and put all references to names of ships in double apostrophes to that the name of the ship appears in italics. The prefix should not appear this way and shouldn't be included in the double apostrophy coding. I have done this for you in the lede and ship infobox. There are other instances in the article where the ships name occurs and this remains to be done.

Done Buster40004 Talk 22:51, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
So far, so good. The following sentence, used in the last paragraph could use some rewording: "One of the attacking the massive anti-aircraft fire by the American ships, the attacking Japanese aircraft were able to slip through most of it."
I have just finished reworking the full article. I found several instances where words were missing, and after some rearranging, it looks and reads better, to me at least. Buster40004 Talk 02:17, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
As a matter of convienence, the SS John Burke could be referred to in the article as Burke in naratives during ship actions. Not totally necessary, but it keeps the phrase John Burke from being repetitive. Just a suggestion. If the article were in sections, the use of John Burke at the first mention in that section would be helpful, the other mentions could be either way.
Makes sense to me. I will take a look....Buster40004 Talk 02:17, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
Having section headers could be helpful to the article, especially if you plan to expand it later. For ships, some common section headers (not including a lede) could be, construction details, history, fate, references. This would give it the required number of headings to automatically generate an article index at the beginning of the article. Just suggestions...If I'm being obnoxious, just tell me to stop. Cheers...Cuprum17 (talk) 23:21, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
Never! Just remember that no good ever goes unpunished.Buster40004 Talk 02:17, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
I see you are ahead of me already! Very Good...Belay the "section headings" suggestion... Cheers Cuprum17 (talk) 23:24, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

The criteria which a ship article is judged can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Assessment#Quality Scale and for B class articles are not too demanding. To insure that you do not have any grammar errors, it is a good idea to copy the article as it appears on the page into Microsoft Word or a similar program; this will allow you to find spelling and punctuation errors quickly if any exist. This is one of the first thing that I do when judging an article.

I have corrected a capitalization error for you. "General Quarters" versus "general quarters". A small error, but one that editors looking at your work will ding you on.

I would try to use "Cressman" as a source in my references and do it by using specfic page numbers.

Done Buster40004 Talk 14:41, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Strictly as a guide as to how I reference an article, look at this article which I wrote recently, USCGC Point Comfort (WPB-82317). This is one way to reference an article, but by no means the only way.

Put these changes into place and let me know when you are finished and I will look over what you have accomplished. At this time the article is still a Start Class, but don't get discouraged, it sometimes takes more than one attempt to get an article where it will pass B class. If you have questions, raise them here and I will monitor this page for a while. Cheers... Cuprum17 (talk) 21:19, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Article would probably pass a B class muster at this point; however, I would like to see you put the references you cite in biblography section as I have done on a new reference. (incidently that reference used is an excellent source for Merchant Marine ships in all wars) Use my example as a guide and see what you can do with the rest of them. Whether you attempt this or not, I will probably upgrade the article to a B class. There is one other consideration...the Liberty Ship resources (last section of article) might get dinged by some other editor as a little excessive...my advice would be to limit it to the one yard that actually made the Burke...that is the one that lists the ones constructed by Oregon Shipbuilding.
You have improved the article greatly since you started it and I'm sure you have learned a great deal in the process of writing and researching the article. Don't stop here...find another ship and research it and write it up. The best ones will have a good deal of history in their past or a very notable event. Pictures of the actual ship are a big plus. Remember to observe the notability guidelines that Wikipedia has. What ever you write about has to be notable or another editor may nominate your article for deletion. Questions???...leave a message on my talk page and I will get back with you as soon as I can. It could be a day or two before I can answer as I have an odd work schedule at times... Good luck and I will be following your progress... Cuprum17 (talk) 23:54, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Welcome aboard, Buster40004, it's always good to have another editor interested in battleships (or naval vessels in general) around. Your article on the John Burke looks like it's coming along quite nicely. If you need help with anything, be it sources, copyediting, or just general advice, feel free to post on the OMT talk page, there are always a few of us around at any given time and we should be able to help you out. Thanks, and again, welcome! Parsecboy (talk) 15:30, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi Buster4004,

I've found a Commons image of Liverpool Cathedral's Lady Chapel which just about shows a glimpse of Hogan's glass... let's hope someone takes some better images soon. All the best Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:27, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

SS John Burke

Hey Buster40004! I've recently looked at your article on the John Burke, and it looks about a thousand times as better then anything I could have put together a month after creating my Wikiepdia account. I suggest that, once you finish any more minor expansions of the article, you go and nominate it for good article status. I'd be glad to review it. Buggie111 (talk) 13:53, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Review is done, located here. Good luck. Buggie111 (talk) 00:34, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

GOCE November 2012 copy edit drive update

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 31 people signed up for this drive so far, 22 have copy-edited at least one article. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!
  • Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive. We have reduced our target group of articles—November and December 2011—by over 50%, and 34 of the the 56 requests made in September and October this year have already been fulfilled. However, the rate of tagging for copy edit has increased, and this month we are just keeping the size of the backlog stable. So, all you copy editors, please do come along and help us!
  • The September 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest was won by Baffle gab1978 for his copy edit of Expulsion of the Acadians. Runner up was Gareth Griffith-Jones for his edit of I Could Fall in Love. Congratulations to both.
  • The October 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the discussion and voting stage until midnight November 30 (UTC). You don't have to make a submission to vote!
  • November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the submissions stage until midnight November 30 (UTC), when discussion and voting begin.
  • Seasonal oversight: We had a slight fall from grace in the title of our last newletter, which mentioned the season in the northern hemisphere and thus got it wrong for the southern. Fortunately an observant GOCE member was ready to spring into action to advise us. Thanks! In future we'll stay meteorologically neutral.

John Burke promoted to GA.

Hey, I've just promoted John Burke to GA. There are a few errors left (the Bush log doesn't explicitly say that the ship reached Mindoro on the 30th), but not that much. I suggest you go over and fix those few things. Cheers, Buggie111 (talk) 00:09, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in January, February, and March 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.
