Administrivia[edit]

I tried to e-mail you a response to your e-mail, but for some reason your address was rejected. I'm not planning to quit the project outright, however I have decided that I will in the near future resign as an administrator. This has been building for a number of months, but basically I find that I'm fighting a losing battle with other admins and sysops -- more powerful ones -- who have succumbed to copyright paranoia regarding images to the point where it has made Wikipedia a very frustrating place. The rules seem to change by the day, and even when a criteria is clearly set out in the image usage tag, others turn around and say "oh, but what it really means is ...". I figure if I downgrade myself to a regular user, aside from - I hope - raising awareness of what I consider to be an extremely damaging issue, I'd also be less tempted to engage in edit wars or other such conflicts. I'm going to be cutting down my watchlist to the bare minimum to list only articles that I've created or am actively editing. The only alternative is to become an Ex-Wikipedian, which I have also considered, but I want to avoid that. 23skidoo 22:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is some sort of weird Wiki-bug where my email is initially routed to an invalid domain (srv36.pmtpa.wmnet) and then eventually arrives at my gmail address; I'm not sure why that still happens. I am sorry to hear that you feel it may be necessary to resign from your role as an administrator, but given the alternative I am glad to know you won't be leaving us entirely. ECW Natural Born Killaz et al[edit]

In this deletion discussion I added several other ECW events that was in the same situation, can you delete them too or do I have to go through the whole deletion process with them again? They were just like this event in that they are non-notable events. TJ Spyke 00:36, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since those articles were mentioned a day or so later, and were not part of the original nomination, please create a seperate nomination page. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 04:13, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's a Simpsons quote, right? When Bart is a child Homer builds him a bed in the shape of a clown. In the dark the clown looks evil so Bart can't sleep, saying "Can't sleep, clown will eat me" over and over again. abelson 07:24, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, im using my school computer, and someone on here supposedly repeated vandalism for several days. it wasnt me, and im committed to wikipedia and put some stuff on occasionally, can you unblock the IP? Richie, bruh 7:41, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

C Howitt Fealz is contesting his block[edit]

Hi CSCWEM, C Howitt Fealz (talkcontribspage movesblock userblock log) is contesting the block you made to his account (and also to 202.6.138.34 (talkcontribspage movesblock userblock log)) by sending an email to the Unblock mailing list. A small snippet of his email says "There were no personal attacks made in either article. The Boers article took a direct quote from his show (about Bruce Villanch), and mentioned Boers' nickname, Larry Horse (which was added by somebody else)." Do you know off-hand some of the other articles he was creating? Thanks, Deathphoenix ʕ 13:54, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For your reference, and with C Howitt's permission, I reposted his email to his talk page for your convenience. --Deathphoenix ʕ 14:29, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Offhand I do not, I will unblock this account in good faith. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 16:02, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks! --Deathphoenix ʕ 16:12, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I managed to locate the offending document earlier today and have provided C Howitt Fealz with some feedback to accompany the unblock. Thank you again for your help with this. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 19:40, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ryan Ross / P!AtD[edit]

Thank you for your time and efforts with these articles! BTW, what would you recommend for Ryan Ross and Brendon Urie to get past "Start" status? Or are they just too new to have such a status? Hackajar 17:06, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't an age thing so much as it is a content thing. The Brendon Urie article is well on its way to becoming a good article. If you're interested, check out Wikipedia:What is a good article? for details. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 17:10, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ongoing vandalism to Ronaldinho[edit]

Thanks for your help fighting vandalism on the Ronaldinho page. Is adding {{sprotect}} in order? -Jared 16:58, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. There has been a significant amount of vandalism happening at this page for the past 48 hours, so it is a close call. It looks as if things have settled down for now, but should this sort of vandalism pick up again, please leave me a note here or email me. Unfortunately Gmail seems to have issues with your address, so here's the data you wanted.

1. Pelit 2. September, 9/2006 3. Assemblyn satoa ("Assembly's harvest") 4. Mika Äärilä, Jouni Utriainen 5. 76-77

It's not a review - Pelit is traditionally very reticent to review anything with less than a page of space - but in my subjective opinion covers the game very nicely. Thanks. --Kizor 08:09, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Global Marine Travel[edit]

Thanks for restoring the PROD on this article. But I thought any user (including the author) had the right to remove a PROD. What I normally do is watch the page, and if I notice the PROD has gone, I list it for AFD instead. Is this correct? — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  20:21, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is blatant spam, but feel free to list this on AFD if you would like.  ;-) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 20:22, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it's blatant spam, which is why I put it to prod. I wish there was a speedy category for this sort of thing. — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  20:33, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Burkem[edit]

User:Burkem appears to have gotten hold of some atrocious 19th-century genealogy of the De Burgh family and be insistent on getting it into Wikipedia. As you can see, I wrote a fairly detailed explanation of where the pedigree comes from, why it's wrong, etc. on his talk page, and received virtually no acknowledgement, and certainly no comprehensive reply. I can't say that his contributions are *entirely* nonsense — Edmond de Burgh seems OK — but on balance, he's doing a great deal more damage with tendentious genealogical information than he's adding to the encyclopedia. If he can't be persuaded to at least discuss sources and reply to the confutation of his claims, I think some sort of sanctions may be in order. People have spent too much time cleaning up after him. Mediator needed[edit]

CSCWEM, hi.... I was wondering, would you be interested in helping out as a mediator, in a case where the other mediator has gone AWOL? The thread is at Wikipedia_talk:Requests for mediation/Lost episodes. We had a mediator, ^demon (talk · contribs), but he posted a formal "I'm too busy with school, bye" message [1], and we've been at an impasse for weeks now. We've tried posting about the problem to Essjay and WP:AN, but haven't had any luck finding an admin who would like to step in. Would you like to help? --Elonka 23:34, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary deletion[edit]

Would it be too much trouble to ask for the deletion of this edit summary. I am only asking you as you were the one who reverted it. The edit was a null edit anyway so it will not affect the article history. Cheers, Ansell 01:45, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of "Asian porn star category" from Asian countries[edit]

Hi, Can't sleep, clown will eat me. We have an editor who is systematically taking the "Asian porn star" category out of the categories for each individual country in Asia. "Category:South Korean porn stars‎," "Category:Indonesian porn stars‎", etc. I reverted them, and he reverted them all back with a comment about another editor, leading me to believe this is some sort of point-making edit. I've see the same editor instigate edit wars in order to report 3-revert violations, and have no intention of entering such a situation myself. I'm not sure of proper protocol in these matters, but have seen your name in edits to similar articles. Maybe you can help? Dekkappai 16:23, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reason is that ethnic groups like the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc, are not considered "Asian" in the UK. It would be POV to include the "Asian porn star" category in those ethnic-specific categories. See these as a reference[2][3]. - Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 16:35, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some help[edit]

Hi, I already asked someone who I thought was an administrator, but I haven't gotten a response yet. I need some help with an article called International Oversight Advisory, it's about an fictional organization within the show Stargate: SG1.

Well, this Belgian guy User:Maartentje keeps adding comments about how he sees the show as portraying the US government as a "Mary Sue," and how other countries are portrayed as evil/incompetent.

Oh come on, the US military is certainly portrayed as being perfect. [...](the paragraph about fan criticism was reffering to it's role in Earth politics). The US military is portrayed as the only honourable organisation on the planet (certainly compared to how the Russian military is presented, not to mention the underlying message of Stargate SG-1 that civilian oversight over military projects is just wrong), anyone who claims otherwise just doesn't know Stargate. The cliché-like nature of the IOA (the cowardly French, manipulative Chinese, and pompous English representatives) also deserves to be mentioned. As far as I'm concerned, the paragraph stays. If anyone feels different, please leave a message. Maartentje 21:47, 13 September 2006 (UTC) (however, do sign your posts, unlike our mysterious editing guy here)

He speaks of "underlying messages" and "cliche' portrayals" which he percieves, and is not fact. Aside for those statements being pure conjecture, they are contrary to the show's creators'/producers' views who say that the show is driven by the United States millitary making mistakes that they have to fix.

Maartentje later goes on to state that he bases his opinions from things he's read in internet fan forums

"if you were really a Stargate fan, you would be aware of the countless blogs and internet forums addressing the matter" (by: Maartentje).

He later goes on to state that his additions are his personal opinion, with a crude analogy.

"The criticism on Mein Kampf was also different from the writer's view, that doesn't make an opinion any less valuable..." (by: Maartentje).

He's resurrected his biased comments 18 times even though various people keep removing them. And he keeps adding slightly modified versions of his same additions. I appreciate your help in the matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikipedian 29 (talkcontribs) 14:21, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Mattarata. Unfortunately, the change was made from the same IP responsible for edits such as these that same evening: [5] [6] [7] -- and this looked equally as suspect. Eric Red article[edit]

An anonymous user (71.107.255.200) has been removing sourced facts and external links pertaining to Red's car crash and killing of two men in order to make Red look less guilty. I just wanted to let you know in case it turns into another editing war.

Sullenspice 12:43, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So there's a subject line you don't see every day. At any rate, the user Rainy Day Industries, some of whose edits you have reversed, has been editing and authoring articles as a pretext for adding pictures of what is presumably his own genitalia. In Penis, Scrotum, etc., he has been substituting these pictures for those already on the pages. In the case of Unshaven male genitalia, which may be WP:SDed by the time you get this message, he has concocted, no pun, an entire article whose purpose is to exhibit rather than to inform. I've tagged this article for speedy deletion twice; the first time he removed the tag. I put a nonsense vandalism message on his talk page, as well as a {{drmspeedy}} warning, but I wondered if a caution from an admin might be more effective in dissuading him -- so that's why I contacted you. --Rrburke 13:31, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again... I tried confirming my email address as you suggested, but when I clicked the confirmation link I got the following error message: "Invalid confirmation code. The code may have expired." This, even thought the confirmation code is supposedly good until Oct 2. Not sure what the problem is or what to do. What about just responding on my talk page? At any rate, the user account I mentioned has apparent now been deleted, so the point may be moot. --Rrburke 23:56, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just so you know, that user's account appears to be active again; yesterday it appeared to have disappeared altogether. He hasn't made any postings to articles, although did try to blank the warnings on his talk page.
And my email confirmation eventually worked. --Rrburke 14:13, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Islamikaze question[edit]

Can't sleep, in light of the Islamikaze deletion, I would like to add an Islamikaze paragraph to suicide attack and add a redirect from Islamikaze, and would appreciate your thoughts.

  1. Is that something that's appropriate to do without a deletion review, or should I do a DR first?
  2. Could you give me access to the text of the old page?

Thanks! TheronJ 19:20, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Theron. You can inquire on Deletion review if you wish, but I think the best approach would be bringing this up for discussion on the Suicide attack talk page first, and if people are interested I can restore the history as a protected redirect and allow you to perform a GFDL-compliant merge. Sound good? Can't sleep, clown will eat me 19:25, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am kind of curious as to what prompted it, though. I'm not complaining too much, considering that DRV needs to move to a more consensus-based model, but was anyone even advocating a merger? Especially considering the DRV was a direct result of an admin ignoring consensus and making his own decision, I'm not sure if this is the best result given the discussion. --badlydrawnjeff talk 16:09, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reference help[edit]

G'day.

I'm trying to get the references in the article on Redeemer Lutheran College to show up as footnotes in the way they do on other articles and I can't quite get it to work. The only thing in the "references" section is something I added manually a week or so ago. I can get the superscript numbers to appear (in the "controversy" section), but none of them come out as footnotes in the way I was hoping they would. What's really weird is that when I added a different citation for Ali Abdullah Saleh the other day, it worked perfectly, but I can't figure out which coding is in that article that isn't in this one. Any advice you can give will be gratefully received. BigHaz - Schreit mich an (Review me) 05:25, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To bring to your notice as an administrator that the decision of afd was to to keep as such as closed by you, still the user Hornplease has redirected. Please help. --Shyamsunder 14:14, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There was a near consensus to merge this somewhere, such as Congress Working Committee. My main concern with both articles is that neither of them provide anything in the way of reliable sources. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 04:35, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's been four years since I last worked on that, even before Rambot added his material! I have found one source, and should be able to find others, but the article has much changed since I last did anything with it. Eclecticology 08:32, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tecmobowl vandal[edit]

I stronlgy suspect that Tecmobowl (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is part of the infamous User:Spotteddogsdotorg sock ring, but with a slight tactics change. TV Newser Tipline 10:21, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think a more appropriate place for this would be WP:SSP. MER-C 10:22, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. If you have a moment, I have a few questions about creating a disambiguation page. The article above had information in it about two separate people, one a musician, the other an artist. I split off the information about the 2nd individual into a separate article under the name Tom Fowler (artist). Now, a disambiguation page is needed to make clear the difference between the two. Unfortunately, for the life of me, I do not understand the process for creating a disambiguation page, and I have read the damn thing twice. Can you give me some assistance? Thanks, as always, for your time and attention. ---Charles 02:00, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your quick action on this. Thanks, also, for the template---that will be a huge help. ---Charles 02:49, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jay Mariotti[edit]

Please do not restore all revisions; some of them contain unsourced criticism which got us complaint at OTRS. As per WP:BLP, we should never carry articles where whole sections are unsourced! David.Monniaux 09:37, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove said criticism then, and bare in mind that we have GFDL issues we need to consider as well as our living person policies. If you have received an OTRS complaint, resolve the complaint by deleting any problematic edits from the history or forward it to someone with Oversight permissions who can, do not delete the entire article! Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 15:38, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is absolutely no GFDL issue if we delete the whole article. GFDL issues happen if we selectively delete edits. David.Monniaux 04:43, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images on episode lists[edit]

Are fair-use images allowed on episode list pages?? The only thing I asked that because, I am having problems with some users with images on the Pokmeon episode list, like I wrote images idenitfy episodes visually and identify key moments. But this Pokémon Collaborative Project voted on not having images which I wasn't imformed with.

I got a commit from a two users liking the idea of images:

Well I personally think they improve the article, and I've followed certain Featured List Candidates involving fair use images, and opposers have always stated that images should be in relation to the text, much like any other image, and not there for decorative purposes. Highway Daytrippers 20:24, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I really like the images, and so many articles have it, I think it's accepted. —Mets501 (talk) 20:36, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The users that are causing this problem is A Man in Black and Ryulong. Some of the iamges have the Fair Use Rationale for the images. We are also having problems with the Template:Pokepisode , but the two users above are using Template:Pokepisode 78893179. Note not all of the images are on one page, A Man in Balck seperated the pages into six seperate pages so mostly all of the images are up to 20 - 30 a page.

Please note the difference:

Without images

With images

Fair use in List of ____ episodes

  • Low quality screenshot;
  • Single image;
  • Serves to identify the episode in question;
  • Does not infringe on the owner's ability to make a profit.

Seems this current revision has crashed infoboxes :)) . Raja Lon Flattery 11:48, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please have a word with this user. All i did was ask him to stop removing true information from the Randy Orton and replacing it with false information, he then left this on my page [10] that was uncalled for. Lil crazy thing 07:41, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey janitor![edit]

Thanks for the talk page cleanup. Cheers, -Will Beback 08:50, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking a brave decision. I think I voted for your adminship - if yes, I feel vindicated. Now let's get this merged ;-) --Stephan Schulz 11:24, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Surfboat[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on Surfboat. It's amazing the number of people out there who get their jollies from purile actions. Cheers Ozdaren 11:41, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Boris Pecker[edit]

If I recall correctly, in Ben Elton's Dead Famous Boris Pecker is the stage name of a pornographic actor who, as a contestant on House Arrest, wants to hide that part of his career from the other participants. So why did you revert my edit? All the best, <KF> 21:23, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That appears to have been my mistake, sorry about that. Please restore that edit as you see fit. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 21:25, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick answer! <KF> 21:27, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry[edit]

Sorry dude for being rude. I'll never do this again if I get my account banned if I continue being like this.Pic Business

Thanks for the speedy. The article's creator is still subject to an indefinite block, so how did s/he manage to do this? --Dweller 10:33, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. The nonsense article was created 3 minutes prior to the account being blocked. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 10:35, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
lol. When I'm patrolling new pages, I always look for ones created by new users. Most of the time they're junk. Furthermore, many of these accounts are created solely for the purpose of creating new garbage articles. Has the idea of allowing new articles to be created only by people with a few edits under their belt ever been floated? Do you think it would garner much support? --Dweller 10:38, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that would receive much traction, in this case the account was rather obviously vandalism purposed. It might be worth considering email authentication down the road, who knows... Can't sleep, clown will eat me 10:45, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator recall: JDoorjam[edit]

Hey, I have notice that you have also spoken to JDoorjam about his violation as an admin. I would like to put him up for a recall vote, however I am reletively unfimiliar with this obscure process and was hoping you could help me put this vote into motion. I have found that he continues to speedy delete articles which do not fall into the speedy delete category including a recent speedy delete of Brooke Ashley on October 5th 2006, which he is nominating properly after I reported his deletion to User:Brookie. Brooke Ashley might I note, is a very notable adult performer who holds a former world records and is one of the few actresses who contracted HIV in the process. Anyways a speedy deletion was a clear violation of WP Policy and I feel there most certainly could be other admins who could do a better and unbias job on Wikipedia than he is. Cheers! Valoem talk 17:59, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While I do agree that many or most of the recent speedy deletions by JDoorjam were not in line with deletion policy, I feel that asking for a recall is too extreme. JDoorjam has apologized and agreed to discontinue this type of behavior, which I am willing to accept in good faith. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 18:36, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eugenia Loli-Queru[edit]

Why did you speedy-delete this article? She's a fairly well-known journalist in computing circles, and a lot of work was put into the article to make it informative and NPOV. CRCulver 01:55, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since notability is contested, I've restored this article so that it may be discussed at AfD if necessary. Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 15:17, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Motorboat[edit]

Thanks for the rv. I did not catch all of the vandalism. --- Skapur 01:39, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sensing a strange theme here. The other day it was... Surfboat, of all things. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 15:18, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for some reason[edit]

For some reason you blocked my I.P. address, but I can still log on? Anyway, I wouldn't mind knowing why my I.P. address was blocked (219.89.20.77), as I certainly have no idea. Thanks.--HTait 09:56, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's difficult to say, because I show no record of this IP being blocked.  :-) Perhaps you share network space with someone who was vandalizing, and were autoblocked as a result? If it happens again, please send me an email with a full copy of the block message as it appears on your screen. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 15:13, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of blank email[edit]

Hi - I notice you deleted blank email but not talk:blank email. Any particular reason for not deleting the talk page? -- Rick Block (talk) 03:11, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, not that I can think of. It has a date with G8.  ;-) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 05:26, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
