You are now an administrator[edit]

Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful and made you an administrator. Take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Some have found the practice exercises at the New admin school useful. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Best wishes, WjBscribe 14:35, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An RfA message from AGK[edit]

Congratulations on your recent acquisition of the mop. I offer to you a few words of wisdom:

  • Start slowly and carefully. There's a huge temptation to start flying through your new duties as soon as the 'crat pushes the button - resist it. Avoid close calls for your first week or two, and leave it to those who happened to get their tools a little earlier than you.
  • Be sure to connect in with other users on IRC, if you can. There's a whole pool of channels there where you can get assistance in your newly-acquired buttons, and get your new colleagues used to your name.
  • Be ready for criticism in your first few weeks, but at the same time don't be a push-over. If you feel worried over a decision, get another user to take a look at it.
  • When blocking, ask yourself if everything you've entered into that form will benefit Wikipedia: is the block length sufficiently long to prevent further disruption by a vandal, or is it so long that it will put them off ever returning? Is your protection just going to be a minor hiccup in the edit warrior's grand scheme of disruption, or will it hinder the growth of the encyclopedia?

Best of luck with your new buttons, and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.

First off congrats on becoming an admin. I notice someone else has already deleted the article as I am writing this so it probably moot (sorry about delay) but... I would probably have deleted the article personally as I think the intent of 'planted the church' is so unclear as to be probable nonsense or just that he is the elder at that church. Nothing else in the article strikes me as an assertion of notability. Of course if he had actually 'planted a church' that would be very notable but I somehow doubt it! If you have any doubt however remove the speedy tag and prod it instead to give others the chance to look it over. Hope that is some help and don't hesitate to drop me a message if I can be any help in the future. Davewild 22:54, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About 'nocontext' articles[edit]

Hi, I tagged articles like Carlos Orejuela with a {{db-nocontext}}... you might have mistaken it for an nn tag since that's what you indicated in your comment... it was just someone creating articles of footballers with a filled-in template only... nothing written... that's why. -- Mentifisto 03:44, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, you're right... so next time there's such an article what do I do? (Also since I'm not sure how I could write a lead if I don't know about the subject...) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mentifisto (talkcontribs) 03:55, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, no worry. Like I say, a bunch of them got deleted. and I don't think you were the only one tagging. Other admins did not see it as I did. You did nothing wrong. Just a difference of opinion on how to interpret "no context." Dlohcierekim 04:32, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanto[edit]

Thank you, Dlohcierekim, for your efforts on behalf of "aspiring Esperantists" (a phrase that must mean, I suppose, that we're very, very hopeful) in preserving the page on Bertilo Wennergren from threatened speedy deletion.

I'm a novice Wikipedian whose main experience has been with minor proofreading, and I'm still feeling my way carefully to avoid making too many egregious mistakes.

You asked about my Esperanto skills. My ability to speak and write Esperanto is extremely limited, unfortunately, but texts written by others are relatively easy for me to understand because of their similarity to other languages with which I am familiar. (I was born in Denmark to Norwegian and Danish parents, have now learned English to a professional level, and have studied French and German.) Obviously, my reading ability in foreign languages is greater than my productive ability, so I would not attempt to translate into Esperanto, at least for now.

non native student work[edit]

I'd like to discuss the multiple deletions of my student's work (Satoe2158) in her user page. I am teaching students for whom English is a second language, so am asking them to use their user space to construct their articles which will then be moved to the namespace. The first deletion was by User:hmwith and occurred approximately 20 minutes after she had copied a portion of the Uzbekistan-Japan_Center, while she was still logged in.

The second deletion by User:Dlohcierekim occurred after a smaller section had been inserted and the inital process of converting the explanation so as to provide a template for an appropriate article, which was done at the end of class to give the student some basis to complete the first steps of the assignment. There was no warnings or discussion for the Uzbekistan-Japan_Center, so it certainly appears to be an appropriate model, but if there are problems, they should be addressed in the authentic namespace and not going into a student's personal user page. I appreciate the problems with spamming and vandalism, but for constructing an article and having it proofread by a native speaker, the sandbox is not a feasible alternative. Furthermore, the Minamata Open Center is an non-profit academic center, established by the Japanese Ministry of Education, to research Minamata disease, so I believe that it fulfills the requirements of inclusion in the wikipedia.

Please advise if there is an alternative process to this, the other students who are working with wikipedia are utilizing the same process and do not seem to be having the same scrutiny applied. Tomeiter 07:59, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd also note that in the Speedy_deletion section it specifically notes that

Testing is permitted in the sandbox and in users' own user space. If this is not official Wikipedia policy, please let me know. Tomeiter 08:32, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

After some review I've restored some of these speedy deletions, please see User_talk:Tomeiter and User_talk:Satoe2158#Page_Deletions for my rationale. You do not appear to be online right now, but I wanted to let you know about this. Please talk page me if you think this still needs to be deleted, or feel free to MFD it if I'm not around. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 13:02, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined speedy deletions[edit]

Thank you for letting me know that you have declined a speedy deletion I requested.

One note, though... when I am on new page patrol, I can put quite a lot of CSD tags, and I do follow up on them, to make sure it is not the author that removes them. Of course, I expect that a certain percentage of the requests I make will be denied by admins, and I do not have any problem with that. So, I would suggest that you make that kind of notification only when you see a patroller repeatedly making the same mistake (for example, requesting SDs on articles on the grounds that they are unsourced). --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 00:14, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. Never saw that before. Are you saying that you don't think they meet guidelines for notability and verifiability? Are you further saying, "if they have an article, why not me?" Unfortunately, there are too many articles that should not be. The existence of one cannot and will not justify the existence of others. I've not the time to look at their claims to notability at present. However, I will probably nominate that article for deletion too. Thanks for the heads up. While I can't really argue against an AfD like this, personally I don't think it should have been deleted. There seems to be a bias on Wikipedia against anything sex-related (possibly due to the witch-hunt against Taxwoman), which is why I try to at least do minor cleanup on these pages periodically to give them a fighting chance. I think this is at least as valid - and sourceable - as Donkey Punch, which has survived more AfDs than anything I can think of other than Daniel Brandt.iridescent 20:01, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taxwoman wrote a lot of articles on an increasingly odd range of sexual practices, before being blocked for sockpuppetry under highly dubious circumstances, leaving behind a huge pile of highly dubious articles which certain Defenders of the Wiki seem to have made it their life's work to play shoot-till-you-win at AfD until the whole lot's gone. You can find a reasonably accurate summary of the whole sorry saga at The Attack Site We Do Not Link To.iridescent 20:48, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Havefun[edit]

Hi. Thanks for deleting it. That was disgusting. Are users allowed to have this type of stuff in userspace? Wouldn't it be more of "innapropriate usage" than "vandalism"? Does policy state that mainspace is the only place for sexual images, and userspace as well as wikipediaspace and templatespace should be kept free of porn? It is true that nobody is allowed to use WP:CENSORED to argue against deletion of something like this, since it is innapropriate for mainspace anyway? Can this type of stuff be speedydeleted without XfD? Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 01:05, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank-You[edit]

"notability of living people" . wow....... he is important and im not vandalizing. Just because someone doesnt think someone is important or "made a change in the world" doesn't mean everyone thinks that way. So in order for someone's life to be significant and worthy of reading on an encylopedia, that people spend way too much of their own living time on instead of becoming notable for aiding the world themselvs', they must do something "special or outstanding". This criteria could be easily met, with some arguing but of course everyone ahs to put in their 2cents even if its worthless. Thank you for veryfing that peoples lives are unworthy of a single document by which they can remember they did something good. No, they have nothing to their name. "notability of living people".... in order for my life, or yours' for that matter to be worth living, it must be in wikipedia... to be in wikipedia they must be notable. That is the greatest standard for living in the world, screw the people who die everyday and make the rich and famous richer. Cycle of poverty and the "untouchables" are still in todays society. People who are blind fail to reconginize it. Thank-you for reading even though my life is pointless according to your notability standards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluetim1 (talkcontribs) 03:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Information about pointless celebrities and pornographic actors, yet not the most imporant and underpayed profession in the world. Without them then no other profession could be taught. The least you could let me due is make a page that is dedicated to Teacher Appreciation and actual list of names which is important and not just their deeds. And anyways, its not like anyone treats wikipedia seriouslly or else there would be no vandals, conflict information, and it would be a notable trusted source. A pathetic website run by conformists sitting in their chair more important then our names and lives. w/e [Not going to sign because its invalid inforamtion for an encyclopedia] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluetim1 (talkcontribs) 04:11, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal![edit]

Hello, could you check out this user: Tux Unit(talk)? He keeps vanderlising the Club Penguin article, I keep warning him, but he does'nt seem to care. And the only thing he seems to have done is vanderlise that article, according to this: [1]. Thanks, you were the first admin that came to my mind for this sort of thing!--Kushan I.A.K.J (talk) 07:55, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question, out of curiosity, on your MikeReichold username. Couldn't you just use identical sigs for each account, and have a redirect from MikeReichold to your normal userpage/talk? MC Renni[edit]

MC Renni is a local star. He is quickly becoming famous , i cannot see why you have deleted his page. As you can see a few people have pulled together to make his page better and you have ruined it. This saddens me, i now have to make the page again.

I see no evidence of meeting WP:BIO or WP:Music, so sadly, it will likely be deleted again. I see no verifiable sources. Happy Holidays, Dlohcierekim 15:14, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About User:Iamastabbingrobot and his articles[edit]

Ok, if you want to give the kid a chance, let's give him it. Sorry if I act like a dictator or something, I just hate the way people treat Wikipedia....not that I never commited a mistake...but c'mon, I've never done so much crap as people are doing here. Anyway, let's wait five days for Iamastabbingrobot's progress. Victao lopes (talk) 03:03, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's impossible. Too many non-good-enough articles. My first one was not, because I've edited very much as an IP, and this taught me a lot about Wikipedia before I officially entered as a User. However, two of them were speedy deleted, one because of nonsense, the other because of lack of references and notability. But who knows, maybe you can instruct the guy to become a good editor. Bobo feet[edit]

Hi. Am I missing something? A hoaxster creates hoax articles (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Agents: Jack Warrior, that is the hoaxster) and we keep the hoax title of one as a redirect? Question regarding vandalism by Strider Phoenix[edit]

Hello. Thanks for deleting the "Strider Phoenix" hoax article. I noticed in his contribution history that he's been making edits to other pages, all of which turned out to be self-promotional vandalism. I was wondering how I could report him. I read the WP:WARN page, but it wasn't exactly clear to me whether the vandalism warning needed to go directly onto his talk page or someplace else. I was wondering if you could clarify that for me. Thanks. Mh29255 (talk) 05:02, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you again: Question about "Durban Strategy" Page[edit]

The Durban Strategy page was nominated on the AfD with two votes to keep the page, but now the page is completely gone and only contains a redirect. (There is no apparent history to undo.) How can I notify an administrator about this? The AfD nomination page is here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Durban Strategy (2nd nomination). Thanks for your help. Mh29255 (talk) 05:47, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No bother. You just did. Uncle G moved it per his reasons on the afd page. Not sure I understand moving an article during an AfD, but there it is. Durban Strategy redirects to the page under its new name. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 05:56, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pajama Test deletion[edit]

Can you elaborate on why you deleted the term "pajama test"? Interaction design and related project management is my area of expertise and training, and although the term seems humorous (and perhaps for that very reason) it has proved rather helpful to myself and others, in just the way I attempted to communicate. It appears it didn't serve that purpose for you, however :-)

If I indeed made a mistake in creating the entry, my hope is to understand better its nature, in an effort not to repeat it at some future time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Meyerw (talkcontribs) 17:30, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:2005 GoT cover.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:2005 GoT cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Admor of Nadvorna.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Admor of Nadvorna.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:01, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: "articles with quotes"[edit]

I've seen that you left a comment on my talk page about creating redirects with the article name in quotes, is that right? To the best of my knowledge, I only create redirects where say, a company or a TV show or anything in general which has an article with the title say, X is also known in other regions of the world as Y. As you said, it's highly improbable that anyone would search for articles with quotes, and you're right in speedily deleting them. I still don't completely understand what it is that you're talking about, could you leave an example by my talk page, so I may reply authoritatively? Thanks , so speaks rohith. 18:50, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been accused of being a sock puupet. I frankly do not see how this can be possible, since I have made almost no edits bar those to my user page/talk page, and have only just started up. RfA !vote[edit]

Any chance you could reconsider your vote on the TPH RfA again? I have no connection to him or any reason to canvass on his behalf, but I hate to see the RfA fail based on one or two opposes that push it over the edge numbers-wise. I think that controversy attaches to anyone who participates so actively in AfD discussions, and inevitably in a large number of decisions some will be found that folks can disagree with. Perhaps since you supported initially, you can reconsider again?
