Confidence interval

[edit]

I can see that dropping Category:Statistics from the Confidence Interval article makes some sense, on the view that Hypothesis Testing is the next higher category, but this nesting relationship between the categories is not 100% logical. One can certainly draw a confidence interval without testing an hypothesis. In fact, the AMS's Math Subject Classification has BOTH:

  1. Statistics -> Parametric Inference -> Hypothesis Testing AND
  2. Statistics -> Parametric Inference -> Tolerance and Confidence Regions

So they consider CI's and Hypothesis Testing to be sibling categories. If it were up to me, I would vote to keep Category:Statistics on this article. EdJohnston 21:22, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Propaganda

[edit]

Please do not spread your Swedish nationalist propaganda and lies in articles such as Mikael Agricola; it is considered vandalism. --Jaakko Sivonen 14:48, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AWB

[edit]

Do you really mean that the sentence should start with a lower case letter: [1]? Please be more careful when using AWB. Den fjättrade ankan 18:34, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you really busting my chops over one bad edit? If you'd taken a look at the edit history, I'd done thousands of perfectly correct edits, so one mistake is hardly worth a note. Please be more careful when sending notes. Thanks, Firsfron of Ronchester 20:43, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Finlandswedes"

[edit]

I am unhappy with your recent modification in the name of article "Swedish-speaking Finns". "Finlandswedes" is horrible English and a non-existent word. You should not make so drastic changes without any discussion and careful argumenation. "Finlandswedes" is a literal but also an extremely poor translation of the commonly used word suomenruotsalaiset or finlandsvenskar. "Swedish-speaking Finns" is not a problem-free term, but it is better English, and many or most Swedish-speakers in Finland would accept that name. Very few Swedish-speaking Finlanders actually consider themselves as ethnic Swedes nowadays. Kind regards,--217.112.249.156 22:37, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As you have contributed to a related article, you might want to know about the AfD for FamilySearch. -- 63.224.136.62 04:44, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Finnish Civil War

[edit]

Hello, you changed the article's name wihtout any notification to Finnish Freedom War. Civil War is NPOV. There are many names and modern day historians point out that all of them have a propagandist difference. The most neutral is Civil War, and I don't see why it should be changed. The article is now FA, so every modification should be thought of. Let's keep it NPOV. --Pudeo (Talk) 13:17, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Swedishspeaking" Finns is not correct English

[edit]

You are apparently trying to write English according to the Swedish grammar. I think it really should be "Swedish-speaking" in English, so please return the correct in form in the article.--130.234.75.19 14:15, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you explain in a little more detail why you removed the Free Gen. Software category from this article? I know that freeware and free software differ, but I don't understand the difference well enough to see why the cat was removed. I'd appreciate it, since it'd help me to have a better grasp of the two concepts. Thanks. Tijuana Brass 22:13, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Continual page moves without consensus

[edit]

Wikipedia has clear procedures on moving pages. Other than in exceptional circumstances all pages should be moved by following the instructions on the Requested Moves page. Unilateral moves can trigger edit wars, break links and cause a lot of problems. Please stop unilaterally moving pages and follow the correct procedure. Windows-only vs Linux version

"Miranda IM" by itself, according to miranda-im.org is currently Windows-only. One of its main features is ease of installation. The Linux build announced on the forum is not by any means a package, for any version of Linux. For this reason I nominate keeping Category:Windows-only instant messaging clients, until there's a Linux package available. --Lexein 14:06, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Ht-//dig

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Ht-//dig, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. mms 18:59, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Cathedral_in_Amiens.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cathedral_in_Amiens.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:28, 17 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 16:28, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Comparison of spreadsheet software for deletion

[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Comparison of spreadsheet software, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Comparison of spreadsheet software until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 04:26, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of Swedish sportspeople has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This list is sooooooooo incomplete that it is useless, and if it were complete it would be so cumbersome as to be useless. What's the point of this article when a much more comprehensive list of Swedish sports people will be found by looking through the categories.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. After the discussion was complete and the decision was to Keep, an editor moved the page to Gramps_(software) and changed the link to Grandparent in the Redirect page. Thus undermining any automated Redirect repair on external sites. More pertinently to Wikipedia, this broke 167 links from internal Wikipedia pages. (over 60 repaired so far) It also broke the Talk and Edit history of the Redirect page. BAMaustin (talk) 19:39, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
