Unneeded Removals on Dark Souls page

[edit]

Hi Dissident93, I can see from the history page of Dark Souls that you are busily removing my additions to the page.. This WP page was lame, and, I am doing an ok job of adding content.. why are you removing information as "unneeded" ? The game, as you may know, is very sophisticated and complex, not to mention it sold a lot of copies and is influential in its design.. the Wikipedia page was lame to the point of inaccurate.. I am adding a few lines and want to add more.. your edits look like "grumpy wikipedia culture" and "I didnt do it so its not right" .. two very current complaints about veteran editors on wikipedia right now.. So, chill out, let me edit, and others too.. nothing I said was wrong at all .. --Brian — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:CDA6:6A10:223:6CFF:FE94:23E3 (talk) 16:39, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Twitter feeds as "official" websites

[edit]

See this discussion on WP:EL. It's a bit dated, so maybe we should consider re-opening it. --bender235 (talk) 14:43, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

It seems we're fighting a losing battle with keeping navboxes outside "awards and honors" that don't belong there. But then after removing all the ones that don't on that particular page, I realize how ridiculous it looks. Are we going to have to start grouping navboxes into "draft info" or something? Personally I think they're all ridiculous clutter. It won't be long now before we see templates for teams' 2nd+ round picks. Maybe we'll see someone else speak up when they get to 1943 thru 1948. Lizard (talk) 01:37, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What makes you think Colston is done? Lizard (talk) 00:54, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Is a team going to sign him when he's moved on to another career in ownership? He hasn't officially retired but it seems clear he won't return to the NFL. Is there a deadline for free agents to officially become "former" players? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 01:07, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure. Technically he is a former player. And there doesn't really seem to be a consensus, as I've seen players who've been out of the NFL for 5+ years as "free agents." I thought maybe you had a source saying he was retiring. Lizard (talk) 01:09, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, I don't have a source. And that's what I mean, they really shouldn't be. Perhaps after three years, we just consider them former players, even if they never officially announced retirement. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 01:13, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's a tough one because it relies on our judgement but there's really no other way. Is there some median between "former" and "free agent" that we could use? Lizard (talk) 17:20, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I know of. Free agent should be used by players that are very likely to sign with another team, and 35 year old players should pretty much default to "former", in my opinion. Else, we will have guys who are 40 who are still listed as free agents (which isn't false), but as if they'd ever play again. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 22:48, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly I envy projects like WP:VG. Was there ever a time for as long as you've been here that WP:NFL was that active and/or cohesive? Lizard (talk) 23:27, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. I have to maintain 28 or so of the roster navboxes myself. If I didn't, half of them would still list guys cut in the preseason in week 5. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:39, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'll get more involved after this week. I don't think anyone would object if I purged the "participants" list on WP:NFL of some of the obviously inactive editors. Such as this guy, this guy, and this guy (those were first three names I clicked, btw). Should give us a better idea of how many editors we really have. I bet it could easily be cut in half, if not more. Lizard (talk) 05:02, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think more people just focus on their team, rather than the entire league. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 08:36, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That was my intention when I first joined. And it wasn't even a pro team, it was LSU. But when I saw how neglected NFL articles were it was hard to ignore them. Like how there's still 334 pages using Template:infobox pro football player. Lizard (talk) 14:29, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Off to a promising start. Note the ridiculous grace period I'm using. And I've only reached the J's Lizard (talk) 00:40, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DLC

[edit]

Hi Dissident93,

As Wikipedia is written for a general audience, the average reader might not understand what certain gamer terms and abbreviations mean, as described at WP:VG/STYLE. So you were right to add the abbreviation "DLC" after "downloadable content". Thanks, and happy editing! soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 07:15, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NFL Draft

[edit]

Hi, at Talk:2016 NFL draft, your comment seems to be in support of the move but doesn't actually start with a boldfaced "Support". If you actually do support the move, could you add a boldfaced "Support" to the front of your comment to make your position clearer? Thanks. —Lowellian (reply)

Ni no Kuni II

[edit]

Hi Dissident. I keep taking a look at the Ni no Kuni 2 article (I agree that it needs to be renamed) and thinking that it shouldn't exist in its current state. Would you support merging the information to Ni no Kuni (it's pretty much all there already), and redirecting the article there? If so, should I start a discussion about it, or boldly just take action myself? The good topic criteria requires the article to undergo a peer review in order for the topic to maintain its listing, but I think this would be rather pointless and unhelpful to the article in its current stub state. I don't think it should exist until more information about the game is released. Let me know what you think should be done. – Rhain 11:08, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly hope to see more information revealed at E3; that should be exciting. I've made the changes. – Rhain 23:44, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not all Source games updated?

[edit]

I assumed all Source games were updated to Source 2013. I couldn't find any information to confirm or deny this.

Do you know which games were updated and which were not? The only ones I know for sure are updated are the ones I own, which are Half-Life 2 and Garry's Mod. I know they're updated because they use VPKs instead of GCFs. VPKs are the SteamPipe method of storing assets introduced in Source 2013.

Also, why did you remove the information I added about Source SDK 2013? BoxFigs (talk) 02:59, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @BoxFigs: The more recent games use their own independent version of the SDK, and older games like CS:S and HL2 were never updated to 2013. And that was removed because it was unsourced and/or trivial. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 04:50, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • But Source SDK 2013 is used to make HL2 mods. HL2 had to have been updated to understand VPKs, which I know it uses because I see VPKs in the game files. I can add the VDC page on Source SDK 2013 as a source. BoxFigs (talk) 20:04, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
      • @BoxFigs: The SDK is compatible with it and nothing is negativity effected in doing so, yes, but certain tools like Hammer haven't been updated in 10 years, so should that really count? And Source games are not all on the same exact engine, which can be proven with games as CS:GO, L4D2, and Dota 2 using a later version of the VTF format, which isn't compatible with HL2 and CS:S (without manually editing the files). Also, that Wiki can't be used as a reliable source, since it's user submitted and not fact-checked by Valve, despite being "official". ~ Dissident93 (talk) 08:19, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dark Souls III

[edit]

See, that's the thing I've had an issue with. Dark Souls and Dark Souls II are both in the category, but there's only one review for each calling it open world, which are IGN, and Game Informer respectively. Is there like a minimum number of sources I should use to support it, or are certain sites more reliable than others, and if so, could you give me some examples? I've been trying to narrow down the category lately, and this makes it that much more difficult to do.24.228.215.135 (talk) 02:25, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ray Rice

[edit]

I have a picture of an NFL interview which they say Ray Rice was a active player until 2014. He was on the REGULAR SEASON starting line up when he was released. If you look up the day the season started in 2014, he was still on the roster when the regular season started. The NFL counts them on the team that year in the make the 53-man roster by the starting kickoff which he was. There are many players that don't play a season due to an injury, but they still are considered active if the they are on the roster after the NFL kickoff — Preceding unsigned comment added by RoyalsLife (talkcontribs) 06:03, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Are okay. See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Infoboxes#References_in_infoboxes re: [1] czar 09:12, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If it were up to me, I wouldn't even include those sorts of passing mentions in the infobox, but it isn't in conflict with any FAC rules. Mischief Makers and others passed just fine with footnotes in the infobox. In the case of Blast Corps, there's nothing more written on the composer other than that it was his composition. czar 09:21, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NFL week capitalization

[edit]

I had seen you asked in an edit summary a while back, and I did some looking just now. It does seem that "Week" is normally capitalized. Sports Illustrated does it in prose here. USA Today here. NY Times here. And Business Insider here. Lizard (talk) 17:00, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Monolith Soft

[edit]

Hey. Since you seem to have an issue with edit warring, I'm going to approach you to avoid further conflict. Either you misinterpreted my edit or I made no sense (English isn't my primary language)--I didn't say Monolith Soft had a "Zelda team", I said they were working alongside the Zelda team. But that's besides the point. Your edit implies that 100 staff members from Monolith Soft are working on the game, which is absolutely incorrect. It doesn't match the content of the article. --MomoQca (talk) 05:16, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks for correcting your error. Also, in response to your second-to-last edit summary, the very same article has Miyamoto's quote: “Yes they are involved in this Zelda. People from Tokyo and Kyoto are working together on this. There is a team of over 100 helping work on this project, and their work has really been helpful.” Just an FYI. --MomoQca (talk) 05:27, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    • Although Eurogamer may be considered a trustworthy source, it isn't as trustworthy as the official site, and is one of the few sites that says it is released in Japan. However, seeing how plenty of other sources, upon hundreds of locals, and iOS app store search resulting in nothing, Japan never should have been added. All content on Wikipedia must be cited. Japanese names

[edit]

Hi! I'll comment on this edit.

Japanese names are always relevant to Japanese citizens/ethnic Japanese people. It is necessary to know how a name is written in Japanese if you want to search for Japanese-language documents (for example in Keiko (given name) you notice there are a zillion characters for "Kei" so you won't know which one a person uses unless it's provided) - In the cases of the other people they have Wikipedia articles, so they don't need to have their Japanese names displayed in the article. However Jina Ishiwatari does not have an article of her own so her Japanese name should be displayed in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game article.

While the Sonic article should have Japanese names of people who worked on it, they can be made footnotes if they are perceived as being too obtrusive. They should not be removed from the article (unless/until Jina Ishiwatari gets her own Wikipedia article) WhisperToMe (talk) 06:22, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @WhisperToMe: They've always been removed on game articles, as they aren't relevant for an English article. (We aren't even suppose to list the title in Japanese anymore, per WP:JFN) You should post this on the talk page for Sonic so others can contribute to the discussion. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 06:25, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pokémon Go + exercise

[edit]

The information provided is to solidify the connection of Pokémon Go and the positive mental health benefits of exercise (while avoiding going completely tangential into the scientific reasons why). The game is getting people to exercise and they're reporting improved moods as a result. But is it the game or the exercise? The study provides the conclusive evidence that exercise is known to improve mental health and having it there provides that context to the readers—the game is facilitating the improvement through exercise. Otherwise the section leans more toward claiming the game is the primary factor rather than the exercise. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 08:55, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Washington Redskins colors

[edit]

The NFL logo slick at NFLCommunications.com shows #660000. I don't remember ever discussing the code with you or anyone else. It comes directly from the NFL itself. If you look at the Redskins website, as well as Philly's, they match. Corkythehornetfan 02:31, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mine looks exactly the same with an exception... my date says "12.17.12". If you would like me to send you an email, I will let you look at the site itself (with my info). Just note, that my info has been all made up for privacy reasons. If not, you can register yourself. Corkythehornetfan 02:55, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing is "official" unless it is directly from corporate or the organization's website. A file from a dropbox that is viewed for the public should not be "official" since we have no idea where it came from. Corkythehornetfan 03:20, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Corkythehornetfan: The Lions ones is hosted on their official site, so I don't see why the Redskins one would be any different. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 05:59, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. Have it your way, even though it is pretty damn obvious when looking at the website and others that  #660000  is the correct color, not  #773141 . Apparently, a fan can't make his favorite team's article look half-way decent with the correct content. Corkythehornetfan 07:31, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure why you are being hostile. I simply provided something else that differs from what NFL.com states, so you should get upset with them being inconsistent with their own brand. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 08:11, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You just removed icon from Pokémon Go. What rule of Wikipedia says we can only use one picture in infobox. Moreover this game is for app platform. Logo and icon are two different things and are needed to be displayed individually. I hope you will discuss before any further revert. Peace! Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 06:14, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Dissident93: that's a game cover issue. I know a page can't bear more than one covers if it got more than 1 version. The situation here is different. I'm trying to clarify myself that this game is just for Android and iOS platforms, so why don't we add app icon here for people to know what actually it looks when they visit app stores? Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 06:24, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Umais Bin Sajjad: Consensus is to only use one image in the infobox. For digital-only games, such as this one, we simply include the game's logo and nothing more. You'll need consensus on the talk page to change it. And it already clearly states what platforms this game is for, not sure why somebody would need an app icon to know that. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 06:26, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Dissident93:So you mean to say I eligible to replace the icons of all games on wikipedia with their logos? Like this one's icon with logo? Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 06:32, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Umais Bin Sajjad: App icons should only be used in place if logos don't exist for it, so yes. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 08:12, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Dissident93: Alright! Thank you for discussion. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 08:17, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pokemon Go deletion

[edit]

Don't delete without discussion. It wasn't discussed last week because the sources are THIS week. If an edit is UNSOURCED, you can be bold and delete. However, from [Wikipedia:Content removal]: when removing a section of an article, it is necessary that it at least be explained, and in some cases, discussed. Unexplained content removal is when the reason for the removal is not obvious, and is open to being promptly reverted.: In this case, this week's source is unimpeachable: Dun & Bradstreet and your deletion falls into the category of [Wikipedia:I just don't like it]: "Wikipedia is not a business deal. It is an encyclopedia. Well-argued statements beat personal, subjective tastes". So, please discuss before trying to remove this section (you can edit/dispute it all you like, of course).Santamoly (talk) 20:49, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
