Disambiguation link notification for December 15[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Lalji Singh, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Paternity. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks DPL bot. Removed the link. I noticed that the article is written very badly, bad English, un-relevant information such as "Except these things Dr singh has given a golden opportunity to the people from Jaunpur. Instead of going directly to BHU they can go to Rahul Mahavidyalaya Kalwari if they feel any serious problem regarding their health, because Doctors from BHU use to come every sunday at this vidyalaya to treat the people. To the some extend we can say that patients get same facility here as they get in BHU because of Dr. Singh only." This need to be improved. I am thinking to work on it. The person is Padma Shree, which is a very high civilian award of India. Educationtemple (talk) 10:03, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and congratulations on your excellent article about Sunil Kumar Verma. I want to let you know that I am changing a word in the article, and also in the DYK hook (which is currently in the queue). I changed it to say "assignment to a known species source," rather than "assignation". The most common meaning of "assignation" is a meeting - particularly a secret meeting, like a lovers' rendezvous.[1] I hope you don't mind this change. --MelanieN (talk) 22:14, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, never mind. EEng changed it back to assignation, saying it's a technical term. --MelanieN (talk) 00:37, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IP[edit]

Hello Educationtemple, I'm just curious, is this your IP? Jim Carter 16:38, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is my IP Educationtemple (talk) 16:54, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Did I do any mistake Jim Carter Educationtemple (talk) 17:07, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) It seems like you accidentally made some edits without logging in first, and because of that your IP appeared instead of your signature. It now looks as if you are "two users" (one account and one IP) here on the WP, something that can be problematic. The best thing for you would be to ask at the Teahouse about what you should do or Randykitty who I see is helping you, so that you do not become suspected of some sock puppet activity, or if you do not want you IP to become publicly known. Best, w.carter-Talk 22:52, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And another thing: When you mention another user, do not use their entire signature. The special signatures are only supposed to appear when the editor who has that signature signs something using the four ~~~~. If you copy that signature, like you did here above with Jim Carter, the conversation looks very confusing. :) Just use plain text as I have done here when mentioning other users. - w.carter-Talk 22:59, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I got it. It was unintentional, though. I did not know that we should not use entire signature while mentioning! Slowly learning wiki....Is there a single place where I cold read all good rules and practices of wiki? Thanks for advise! Educationtemple (talk) 04:13, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, it seems like W.carter already explained you. Here you'll find a list of our most important policies and guidelines. You can start reading from the basic ones. BTW you don't need to mention someone when you are on their talk page. For example: You don't need to mention Philg88 when you are on Philg88's talk page. Anyway, you are a quick learner :) Have a nice day! Jim Carter 05:42, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for complement @Jim Carter:....It is fun to lean wiki! It is a different world indeed where everyone is so knowledgeable, so kind, and so much willing to do selflessly for others! This is a great feeling! Thanks to the inventor of wiki!!

I need to learn how to archive discussions on a talk page and make the page look better....! Educationtemple (talk) 09:04, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Here you will find how to archive talk pages. There are many different ways of archiving a talk page. Automated bots can archive talk pages, semi-automated scripts can archive talk pages and one of the oldest form of archiving is the cut and paste procedure.
I can set a archiving bot for your talk page that will archive old discussions or you may try to do it yourself and if you face trouble, we are here to help. :)

Userpage[edit]

Hello again! If you want to do something special with your user page, here are some tips:

For making your user page look nice, see: Wikipedia:User page design center. You can also "clone/borrow/steal" the code from someone else's user page. Just ensure that you change it enough that it does not look like you are trying to impersonate the other user. Wikipedia:User pages is a good guide as to what kind of things are appropriate in user space. And when you use the work someone else has created, in the edit summary please attribute the work to them by naming the user you copied the content from. If you want to add userboxes you can start here: Wikipedia:Userboxes. There are also many, many customized userboxes floating around on user pages in the Wikipedia, if you find one you fancy just copy the code from the page. If you are further interested in defining yourself and your style there is also the Wikipedia fauna. Cheers! w.carter-Talk 11:02, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @W.carter: and @Jim Carter:! Thanks a millions!

Thanks Dear Ivanvector. User Inder neal (showing in red) seems to be personal and pre-biased for Sunil Kumar Verma and he has added the deletion tag on the article by giving a reason which has been reviewed and administered thoroughly during the rescue process. Could you please see this and take appropriate action.

I see that the article was nominated for DYK and was subsequently reviewed positively by another editor/admin. If user Inder neal doesn't stop playing this non-sense he may be blocked.

I will also inform to Philg88 about this. Educationtemple (talk) 09:48, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh! I see that the tag has been removed by Jim Carter with a warning to Inder neal. Cheers & Merry Christmas @ Ivanvector!! Educationtemple (talk) 12:01, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there Dear @Ivanvector:!

I just nominated Sunil Kumar Verma for good article status. Though this article is not very big, but it is really very condensed article on the notable contributions and work of this Indian scientist; which indeed made global impact. This article has several components, quality Science, quality work for social causes by the subject and most authentic references. I know you have already given me a "Good Work" compliment for this. I would feel inspired if you review it please as an independent reviewer, and comment as appropriate. Thanks and HNY2015. Educationtemple (talk) 18:01, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sunil Kumar Verma, part II[edit]

I just nominated Sunil Kumar Verma for good article status. Though this article is not very big, but it is really very condensed article on the notable contributions and work of this Indian scientist; which indeed made global impact. This article has several components, quality Science, quality work for social causes by the subject and most authentic references. I have discussed and shown it to Phil88 before nominating. I would feel inspired if you too review it please, and comment as appropriate. Thanks. Educationtemple (talk) 17:49, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(I made a new section for this since this has nothing to do with your user page, hope that is ok)
Well, congratulations. You are now in for a long wait. It usually takes weeks or even months before the article gets reviewed due to the backlog. This will give you ample time to improve it and get it up to standards for becoming a GA. Also try to edit as much as you can on other articles to get up to speed for the review, because that is like noting you have yet experienced here on the WP. I was exhausted and had a really hard time to keep up with things when I did my first GA! I will take a look at the article and start fixing things and get back to you later. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:02, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot Dear @W.carter:! I too have good patience. I am already working on couple of articles in my user space and on my laptop. I am taking only the great causes for Indian context/notable personals, who had done the things for the first time particularly in India/history related topics at first instance. It is fun! Hope Sunil Kumar Verma will make it. It had more than 4000 views during last 90 days! I researched on him for almost 2 months to reach to this point! Cheers and HNY2015 Educationtemple (talk) 18:14, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The first thing you have to do is to fix up all the references. Bare urls and missed parameters will not do in a GA. I fixed refs 1,2,4,5,6 (I could not see all of the 3 since I don't have High beam, but there should be an author somewhere). You have to fill in all the parameters for the refs: authors, website/domain (not just the url since that is sometimes different from the url), accessdate, publisher etc. If the publisher has an article on the WP, then that should be linked as well, check it. Look at my edits and start fixing up the rest of the refs. This is what refs should look like in any article, but it is even more important to get it all right in a GAN. Best, w.carter-Talk 19:07, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @W.carter:. I will do this and get back to you once I am done. In case where there is no writer, for example this which says "Our Bureau" in place of Authors name, what shall we do in that case?

The play button on video thumb is in the left corner, and when we click it, video does not pop up in the center of screen, in first go. Once we close it and again click on play button, it pop ups in the center of screen. (i) can play button go in the middle of thumb instead of left corner of thumb? - Update: I know the answer now from your comment on Phill88 talk take (ii) can we fix pop up behavior (always pop up in the middle of screen)? Educationtemple (talk) 19:17, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As I said, the play-thing is default, just leave it. In the case of no author that you mention copy this parameter: |author=<!--Staff writer(s); no by-line.--> |. w.carter-Talk 19:27, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Thanks a lot for this tip @W.carter:. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 19:31, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sunil Kumar Verma, part III[edit]

Hello @W.carter: again. Hope you are well and doing great! I corrected and fixed all references. Please check ref 13, 14, 23, 24, 25, 28 and 29 once and let me know if they are not OK, I will correct them as per your advise. Rest of the references must be correct as I checked them multiple times. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 19:46, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I will check them right away. I will correct if I find anything, it's easier, you will learn just the same. Please do not edit on it now so we don't get an edit conflict, I'll let you know when I'm finished. It may take a while. :) w.carter-Talk 19:51, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! Educationtemple (talk) 19:56, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So, I'm done. :) Very nice job with the refs! There was not much to correct at all, just some forgotten links here and there. I always get surprised by what small publications or societies really have articles here on the WP. There was only one publisher I had to correct, MailOnline is owned by the Daily Mail. I always scroll down to the bottom of the page to look at what the copyright line says, and that's where you find the company responsible for the whole thing (see this page where it says "Part of the Daily Mail"). I also made a small fixes-thingy with a script to tidy up some of the small, "invisible" things.
Now, do you want to get some more tips for fixing? w.carter-Talk 20:38, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh! Sure....Not only this, I would also love to spend some more time to compare the versions and see what did you fix, so that I dont do such mistakes and learn those fine tunings.

You are a great teacher @W.carter:!! Educationtemple (talk) 20:44, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, you are very kind. You should really thank Philg88 since he is the one who taught me, and a lot of other editors. :) He is our Master Yoda here. To study edits is really the very best way to learn, I'm glad that you do it.
 • The GAs are almost always in a chronological order, so you should move the "Education and career" section and put it before the "Universal primer technology", just move/copy/paste it.
 • Then there is the pictures. There are too many of them. There should always be a balance between the amount of text and the number of pictures. We really don't need two similar pics of Mr. Verma (sorry), choose one and put that one in the infobox. Since this is an encyclopedia, the article should be rather condensed.
 • Next up is some text. You have written a lot about his academic work and achievements, but it would be great to learn something more about the man himself like: Who were his parents, does he have any brothers or sisters, is he married, does he have children, does he have any hobbies, where does he live, etc. These facts are just as important here.
 • You also write that he has written poetry, how many books, what are their titles, fix up a bibliography for them, we really want to know everything about him. :)
 • You can look at the "Early life and education" section (and maybe some more) in this article that I made to get some ideas of what to write about.
All the best, w.carter-Talk 21:15, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot one thing: It is perfectly ok to use sources in other languages than English, as long as you provide a translation of the title with the parameter |trans_title= | like you see that I have done with all the Swedish sources in the example article I provided. There are plenty of editors with all kinds of language skills to check things out here. :) Hope I did not scare you with all the things for the article, I thought it would be better if you heard it from me now, than during the GA review. Btw, the article looks very nice and clean now. Good job! Good Night, w.carter-Talk 23:52, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @W.carter:. I had taken action as you suggested. I agree with all of them and did tweaking. Hope, I did not messed p with the things.

Very less is written about the personal life of Verma, so, I also dont know much about that. possibly because he is not a celebrity yet, so there is nothing in literature about his hobby, personal life etc. Yes, I came across lots of citations about his academic works. The section on re-discovery of Pygmy hog could be extended since this was a big contribution. The events that followed his and coworkers paper on this are well covered in media and hundreds of such rare animals were later released and notified by Govt of India.

His work on discovery of Universal Primer Technology is well cited and I have covered it most. If new evidence could come out in due course, that DNA barcoding was indeed discovered by him (with name Universal primer technology) along with Singh much before than the known inventors of so called DNA barcoding, then I am sure, people would write his biography too from his birth till death, since this was his great contribution, which remained supressed and unknown to the world and somehow did not come out despite the fact that entire Canada and New York was shaken when famous food frauds were being uncovered by the use of his technology in 2005 till 2007 as I have cited in the article (you also might have noticed this (ref 17-26).

I can try to collect more info about his poetry and get back to you. Educationtemple (talk) 00:06, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I might be wrong but on this page and this it looks like his fathers name was Sri (Dr) Rajkumar Verma. There might be similar bits of information hidden on other pages. Also nice that he as added your article to his website. :) w.carter-Talk 01:00, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're right @W.carter:. I added but it is not showing up in info box. Kindly see. I also added residence as Hyderabad Educationtemple (talk) 07:20, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's not showing up because it's not a part of the markup for Template:Infobox scientist (look here for all parameters), only "spouse", "partner" and "children" are. You should remove that and write it in the text instead and provide a ref for it. Something like "He is the son of XXX,(ref) and grew up primarily in ZZZ." You should also add the residence in the text and ref it, like last in the "Education and career": "Verma is currently living in YYY.(ref)". That also have to be refd.
The fact about his father is from what is called a primary source. These are allowed in some cases. Another editor explained it to me as: "Primary sources are ok for names of family members, birthdays and similar uncontroversial facts, but not for claims of having done successful cold fusion in the garage." w.carter-Talk 10:21, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done and removed extra things from info box. I will tweak text too after some time. let me search a good reference for this. I can guess now why wiki is No 1 encyclopedia! Educationtemple (talk) 12:21, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New year is approaching.....wish you a very happy new year 2015. Educationtemple (talk) 12:22, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good job! :) Yes, it is a lot of work, but since so many people around the world use it and rely on it, we have to make it as perfect as possible. But it is also very rewarding when you see the things you have been part of creating being cited and read. A happy new year for you as well! w.carter-Talk 14:20, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I also took the liberty of installing an archiving bot here on your talk page as a little "new years gift". Hope you don't mind. It will start to archive discussions that are older than 20 days soon, a normal setting. I think you can guess the settings if you want to change anything in them. Best, w.carter-Talk 14:35, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You dear @W.carter:. Greetings! Oh, mistake again...sorry Educationtemple (talk) 15:54, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lesson about Referencing[edit]

Dear @W.carter:, I am back again and it is 2015. Hope you too celebrated the new year to its fullest.

One lesson to take from you please: I was wondering how we create a reference like this as created for example on this article. It first go to reference and then on bibliography. Educationtemple (talk) 04:00, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There are many kinds of way to write references and the one in the article is the one I like the most. :) It is called "Harvard references" and is mentioned in Wikipedia:Parenthetical referencing. It is most efficient if you have a book that you want to cite several times. First you create a == References == section like always. Then you create a subsection (or a new section) called === Bibliography === where you list all the books you want to use for references, like the list you saw in the article. These books should be listed as "Cite book" with the Template:Cite book parameters. For the Harv-refs to work you must also add the parameter |ref=harv| to the cite book. You can see this in the Bibliography section in the article.
Then, in the article instead of the usual you leave another "mark". You use the and in those brackets you write the a "markup-prefix", last name of the author, the date of the book and the page/pages for the ref. The "markup-prefix" can vary, I use "sfn" since I know it works (use that), but I see that the article uses "sfnp" (I don't know why, haven't seen that before). This results in:
 • where one page is relevant and
 • for several pages.
 • If there are more than one author for the book the ref would become like this
 • or even .
The refs will then appear in the "References" section just like the other refs. You can look in the article and see all this in the editing window/code. I am at work now, so I will not have much time for the WP, but I'll be back later tonight for more questions. Best, w.carter-Talk 10:03, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help requested[edit]

Dear @W.carter:, someone has nominated the image in the article for deletion, though it was released in appropriate source as appropriate CC licensing (this). Could you please help to fix this?? Educationtemple (talk) 19:04, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Licensing for pictures is always tricky on the Wikipedia. It is much easier to upload them to the image depository known as Commons and use them here after that. That is what most of us do. Not many users here (including me) know everything about the licenses, but you can always get fast help at the Commons. I would suggest that you re-upload all your pictures related to this article on the Commons instead and use the file names you get there for them in the article. This also has another advantage, since you can upload all pictures and files related to Mr Verma and later I can help you fix up a category for the and you can have a link to that category in the Commons like it is done in this article (look at the bottom of the page) and this Commons category. w.carter-Talk 19:20, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @W.carter: I uploaded this file at commons only. See all files related to Verma here at commons: Educationtemple (talk) 19:37, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, great!! :) Let me see if I can find anything, otherwise you have to ask at the Help desk about the license. Sorry for the long wait between replies, but I'm helping another new user at the same time. I'll get back to you. w.carter-Talk 19:57, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am leaving for Delhi after 3 hrs from Now. Will have limited access to net. Hope files are not deleted by the time I come back. Educationtemple (talk) 20:21, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I think I have found something! :) I'll keep an eye on things here while you are gone. I am also a bit concerned that the archiving bot has not started on your page yet. I will reboot it and try some archiving. Hope you don't mind. w.carter-Talk 20:25, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

sure..sure...cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 20:29, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You had just forgot to add the on that picture. :) it was added on the other files. I fixed it and will fix the rest now. Have a safe journey, w.carter-Talk 20:33, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I love you WP...so huge but so careful and intelligent! We can forget, and do mistakes, but wiki not! I love the peers at wiki....thank Dear @W.carter: and cheers!! Educationtemple (talk) 20:36, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So, there is now a category for Mr. Verma here and a tag at bottom of his page. I have kicked a bit at the archiving-thingy. It seems to work but may have a bit of a slow start. Sometimes they start 20 days after having been installed or something. Best, w.carter-Talk 22:50, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Scripts[edit]

Since you are such a fast learner and interested in doing perfect edits, I thought I'd leave a little something for you here when you get back. Some time ago I helped another user to install and start using scripts and I think you might like it too. To save some writing I will use the same text as I used then and link you to sections with the talk and instructions for the scripts that I recommend here.

The first on is one that provide different links with different colors, making editing very easy. The first time I talked about it was here (middle of section right by the picture of the sceenshot), and here is when we moved on with the installing. Later on the same page are some more scripts and descriptions of them here. You might want to wait with the "autoFormatter" (the first one) until you are a bit more experienced. There is also one I mentioned here that is very helpful when editing references. You might even pick up a tip or two along the way when you read my advice to other users this way. :) Best, w.carter-Talk 00:31, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh! Many thanks dear Jim Carter! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 14:47, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have taken a look at the article and there are a number of things you should start fixing. First of all is the lead or intro. This should only be a summary of what is mentioned in the rest of the text and it should not contain any references. You need to make a new section to start the article with and put all the facts and refs there. Something like "Early life and education". Look at the lead and the actual article as two "separate" articles. The lead should contain enough for a "lazy" reader to get the whole picture of what the article is about and a more curious reader should be able to find all the facts in the actual article. You can read more about it here: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section.

Then there is the placing of the refs. A ref should always come after a comma or a punctuation. In many places you have put the ref before the comma. You also need to disambiguate the words "H index" and "translocation" since these are linked to pages with several meanings of the word. When you have made a link, it is good practice to click on it and see where you actually end up! :) About half of the links are to pages that are redirects. While this is no problem, it is always best to make the link to the "final destination" when you write a new article. In some cases it looks nicer if you use the official name on the Wikipedia in the article instead of the redirect. An example of this is Calcutta University which is redirected to University of Calcutta, so you could use the latter name instead. In other cases you could make a piped link if your original link is a redirect. Example: sex chromosome that ends up at Allosome. You could write sex chromosome, then you get the right words in the text and your link goes straight to the right article. Another kind of unnecessary redirects are the plurals, vertebrates gets redirected to vertebrate so you should write this as vertebrates. The letter(s) just outside the brackets will automatically be included in the link as you can see here: vertebrates. Almost forgot: A link should only be made the first time a subject is mentioned. For instance, you have linked "DNA Fingerprinting" eight times, that is seven times too many.

Let's start with cleaning up these things and take a look at the article again after that. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:40, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there @W.carter:. Thanks for valuable comments! All of them made a sense to me and I have tried to resolve almost all issues that you cited. You can now have a look at article, please and of course let me know if further things need to be done. Educationtemple (talk) 07:30, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! I've only had time for a quick look since I'm at work and will look at it more closely tonight when I get home. Excellent job on fixing all the links! Looks much better now. But you missed the part where I said "no references in the lead". You will have to move those to corresponding facts in the main text and if there is no corresponding text, write it. I know this will look like you say the same thing twice, I found it quite confusing the first time as well, but that is the way a lead work. Since you are a scholar, you might understand it better if I talked about the leade as the summary or the Abstract (summary) for the article. Please try and fix that. I'll get back to you later. Nice work! w.carter-Talk 09:38, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

 Done @W.carter: Educationtemple (talk) 13:26, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @W.carter:, I have done the things at my end. I also added 2 more new images. Kindly repair them and correct for me, please if there is any mistake in them in their description etc. Article look good now and I wait for your able comments! I wont do any change now until I hear from you. Educationtemple (talk) 16:14, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm home now and I will take a better look at the article. Good job with the lead! That is exactly what it should look like. Also great that you found some more pictures, I was going to suggest that you looked for some. I will fix them for you later tonight. I have a few things that could be tweaked, but I'll get back to you with all of it once I've looked through the article. I will do some small corrections and copyediting at the same time, so I would be good if you did not edit it right now so that we can avoid an edit conflict. w.carter-Talk 18:22, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure @W.carter:. I stop here. Educationtemple (talk) 18:25, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There are some important popular books written by him such as this. Not sure, where to add them. Educationtemple (talk) 18:25, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed[edit]

Done. Here are some of the things I found:

 • You should read a bit about what is called "peacock words" at WP:PEACOCK. Such words must be avoided even if you really admire the person you are writing about. :)
 • I fixed up a section where you can put the books.
 • When there is an article about a subject, such as the Padma Shri, you do not need to explain about it in the text as well ("the fourth highest civilian award ..."), Just write the award and let the other article explain about it. That is what this interlinking is all about.
 • You can see how I fixed the named references with the instead.
 • For all distances there should be a conversion, look at Template:Convert for more info on that.
 • It could do with a real copyediting now, and for that you have to ask Philg88.
 • Names of publications/journals should be in italics.
 • You use caps a bit more than is necessary. :)
 • Dates can be written in many ways. I have used one. Read more about this in MOS:DATE
 • Numbers up to ten should be written: So "fourth" not "4th".

The "Awards" section would be easier to read if it was in a list form. Something like this:

 • Name of first award, (year), comment/note/text
 • Name of second award, (year), comment/note/text
 • Name of third award, (year), comment/note/text

And please, when someone ask you not to edit to avoid editing conflicts, do not edit! I almost lost two hours of work in an editing conflict here since you added an external link after I had started to edit. Thankfully I could save it. Just remember that. Best, w.carter-Talk 20:44, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @W.carter:, Thanks for edits. Your English is really very good. I am learning from the beginning now from you! Thanks.
I have deleted the phrase "fourth civilian award". Also noted how you have done all the fixes including the "ref name" closure. I liked your suggestion on "peacock words" that I had been using without knowing! I must improve this! Also noted that I really use too many caps.
And very sorry for the edit that I might have started doing before I read your message. I really did not do any editing after I read your message and after I sent you my message on my talk page stating that "I am closing now". But I'm very sorry again, I understand it could have been a mess if you had not saved the work. Thanks again for help.
Have you seen the pictures, are they OK?
And yes, I did not understand your suggestion on Award section. Can you do this for two awards, please and then I will follow the same for all. Educationtemple (talk) 21:45, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your comment on my English, it is editing here on the Wikipedia that has improved it, but I still make a lot of mistakes. I love the way we can communicate with people from all over the world here! I learn so much from it, and I so enjoy getting acquainted with different cultures. I also think that the work of Mr. Sing is fascinating and important.
I have not had the time to look at the pictures yet, I was just about to, I had to eat my dinner first. :) I am not nearly as fast in editing as the ever superfast Philg88, so editing this took me most of the evening. I'll do a couple of awards and you can follow with the rest. w.carter-Talk 22:00, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please have your dinner. I remember in my last article Philg88 spent just 7 minutes and the article changed from earth to sky! He was so kind to ask me - "if you don't mind, I could do some editing" I did not know how to say thanks to him! Sometimes, I hesitate to even write to him thinking that I might be disturbing him, one of the real scholar of wiki! and so you @W.carter:.

The first link in this search is the old (2008) CV of Singh on the net. He has written a long list of awards etc. I was selective to take only few important one from the long list. Educationtemple (talk) 22:21, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, he is famous here for being fast and a very good writer. :) You can always ask him, he will let you know if he don't want to do it or doesn't have the time. The greatest "thank" you can give to any of us is to just pay attention and learn (which you are). When I said "the rest" I only meant those left to do in the article, I skipped some, as you can see. I have fixed the pictures, as much as I can. You may have to refresh your cache to see it. w.carter-Talk 22:38, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@W.carter: I have done the things that you suggested. Also removed the "clarification needed" remark. Hope it is clear now. In India, the one who top the batch for entire cumulative years of degree program gets University Gold Madel. Added books. Tweaked awards and fellowships. Can we submit it now to Philg88? for comments and further actions Educationtemple (talk) 07:58, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Much better. :) It is always good to keep in mind that when you write something here on the WP, you write for the entire world and most of us have no idea about all the special things in India. That is why it's good to have things checked by a "foreigner" such as me. I have to explain things in a similar way when I write about Swedish things. I think I have helped you as far as my knowledge goes, so please ask Philg88 now. Best, w.carter-Talk 09:57, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @W.carter:. Your help is highly appreciated. I already taken a new assignment in my user space. Becoming addicted to learn more!!

I want to take another big assignment on a great scientist of India. His name is P. M. Bhargava and he is on wiki already. But the info that is written there is primitive and I find lots of "peacock words" there. A person of his statue don't need these words, as you rightly mentioned to me previously. I want to discover P. M. Bhargava, who is almost 100 years old now and still alive and active. See his latest article, where he slams Indian Science community. I will need your help here too dear! Educationtemple (talk) 10:10, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

First of all you should think about how to merge your Singh article with the existing one. But feel free to start a new project. I looked at the Pushpa Mittra Bhargava and you should really start by cleaning up that article, it need a lot of work, and then add your new data to it. You can always ping me later when you have written the article. You have now learned a bit more so not as much help needed, you already notice the mistakes that others have made. :) Right now I want to have some time to work on my own articles. Hope your nominations goes well! w.carter-Talk 10:26, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can I help you with your article @W.carter:? Educationtemple (talk) 10:30, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you kindly, but no, I don't think so since you do not read Swedish. I'm doing a whole string of articles about Sweden's trade with China during the 18th century, and right now I'm researching about Chinese 18th century porcelain imported to Sweden. See these: Swedish East India Company, Grill (family), Whampoa anchorage, Puankhequa, Chinese Pavilion at Drottningholm and some others. I hope to be able to nominate some for GA. w.carter-Talk 10:39, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@W.carter: I looked at your articles. Looks great! My article looks like a baby in front of them! Still, any time, you can assign me some work, let it be literature search or so on. I can do that and would love to do it. Educationtemple (talk) 10:48, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @W.carter:, move done by Philg88. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 05:46, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

 Done! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 15:28, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

GA nomination for Lalji Singh[edit]

Dear @W.carter:, @Philg88:, @Jim Carter:, @Ivanvector: and other Senior editors visiting this page: Thanks for help. Lalji Singh has now been nominated for GA. Please suggest me if it could still be improved, I shall be happy to execute the good suggestions. Also please help to getting it reviewed quickly, if possible. rgds. Educationtemple (talk) 15:25, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Will be keeping an eye on it and see if any improvements comes to mind. When an article is nominated for GA, that usually attracts other editors who will contribute to it as well. As for when it will be reviewed, that is nothing we can do to hurry that up since we are involved in the article. The article that is currently at the top of that section was nominated on 5 November 2014, so it may take a while, be prepared for that. Best, w.carter-Talk 15:35, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Lalji Singh[edit]

The article Lalji Singh you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Lalji Singh for comments about the article. Well done! Your GA nomination of Lalji Singh[edit]

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Lalji Singh you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of AmaryllisGardener -- AmaryllisGardener (talk) 17:01, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Educationtemple, Amaryllis has mentioned some issues in the GA page (here) of the article. Now you have to fix them before she promote the article to GA. I was also doubting that the article may need some copyediting; I will ping Philg88 to do some copyediting. Jim Carter 18:00, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @Jim Carter: & @AmaryllisGardener:, I have addressed all issues except copyediting. @Philg88: is really most wanted here now!! Hope he is listening to these echos somewhere on the globe!! God bless! Educationtemple (talk) 18:33, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I did some more ce/tweaking on the article. Hope I didn't screw it up totally. w.carter-Talk 22:14, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like I'm too late-the article has already passed the review. Well done!  Philg88 talk 05:36, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You are not late. Your teachings were always with us, you were always there @Philg88:! Thank you for being a guide! Educationtemple (talk) 05:49, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Upon the success of Lalji Singh passing the GA review[edit]

Thank you @AmaryllisGardener:! Though, I now know that "OVER expression" is not the language of WP; but please grant me liberty to express here that "I am overjoyed " upon the success of my first article becoming the GA! Thank you! Thanks to all Editors who have contributed to this, specially @Jim Carter:, @Philg88:, @W.carter: and all who I might have forgotten at this time! Thank you all! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 02:03, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome and congratulations! ;) --AmaryllisGardener talk 02:05, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

Moved to User:Educationtemple/things I have received

Wow! I did not know this that it was deleted at some point! Thank you very much for the Barnstar dear @Ivanvector:!! The article is on for DYK now see here. Please give your valuable inputs when you have some time! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 19:38, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Finding things[edit]

If you want to find out about something here on the Wikipedia, there is a very good and fast way of doing that. In the ordinary searchbox you just write WP:Whatever you are looking for. So if you want to find out about FAs and things related to that, you enter WP:FA, and you'll end up on the right page. There is an astonishing amount of articles, help pages and essays here, almost always something related to what you are looking for. Try it out.

Second thing: While we are working on a project, most of us have the other participants pages on our watchlist and we check the different posts all the time. But after that, while we still have our friends on our watchlists, we don't check every time we see a change on a page. You should start using the 'ping' again, you were very good at that in the beginning but you have relaxed a bit now. It would be best if you used that if you really want someone to read the post you write, we can't keep checking everything all the time. With the 'ping' we get an email, so we don't have to have the WP open all the time either. I for one can't do that during the days at work. With your first GA, you are not just a newbie anymore and that means you are a bit more on your own, like the rest of us. All the best, w.carter-Talk 19:27, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for advise dear @W.carter:. I will follow this! I was indeed not pinging for every small thing thinking that I may disturb! But it is reverse indeed! Thanks again! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 19:39, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination for Lalji Singh[edit]

Hello Friends. I have done the DYK nomination from Lalji Singh (see here). Please help to improve the hook/review the DYK. The hook goes as follows:

... that Lalji Singh is popularly known as the 'Father of DNA Fingerprinting' in India for pioneering and establishing indigenous DNA Fingerprinting Technology?

I dont see this nomination in the Current list. Could someone help, please? Thanks Educationtemple (talk) 10:26, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @W.carter:, hope the GODS smile again upon me! Educationtemple (talk) 10:45, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fingers crossed. :) It may take a while for the Bot to get the article up on the Current list. Things handled by bots always take some time here, you have to get used to that. w.carter-Talk 10:54, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I thought that something was wrong there in some code, template etc. Is everything all right by the way? Did I add correct parameters? Educationtemple (talk) 10:57, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FYI I have fixed the hook. Cheers, Jim Carter (from public cyber) 13:03, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looks ok now that Jim Carter and Philg88 have fixed it. I completely forgot that you have to add it to the Current list manually. Sorry, I'll just go and stick my head in an ant hill or something... w.carter-Talk 13:07, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Make sure you don't pick an anthill full of bitey ones, kompis.  Philg88 talk 13:25, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Arrrgh!! They're thankfully not indigenous to Gotland. >Phew!< w.carter-Talk 13:41, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am amazed to see how much we could be attached with each other, even in virtual world of WP! The way like ants in real world, they can't see each other since they don't have eyes but they can together finish W.carter's head if she sticks to an Anthill Educationtemple (talk) 16:39, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
