Deletion

@Wiki Zachary: "Have no license" is by itself a reason to delete the images. Images on Wikipedia (with some exceptions that don't apply here) must be released under a free license. If you haven't released your images under a free license that allows others to re-use and modify them for any purposes, including commercial purposes, they must be treated as non-free, and since they don't meet Wikipedia's non-free content criteria, they must be deleted. Czar's edits

Hi again, I'm not sure how to reply, and if you reply to this please notify me (somehow!)

Czar left redirects (in the case of the tech demos to Nvidia) which were disorientating, The Orb-3D link has been reverted and he's nominated it for deletion. Now the page doesn't read particularly well but the worst case is that it is advertising a decade old graphics card. If you're not very tech savvy, imagine if it talked about how great a car was (bad example with that VW thing) - okay imagine it talked about the amazing picture clarity of a TV from the 50s, It doesn't matter. But it is an important bit of history.

I was browsing the lists of old graphics cards (The lifespan of the 9800XT by ATI) and suddenly, I was at Nvidia's page! This was very odd. If someone had to I'd undertake the task of making the page, I am not fighting for it in a previous form, I am saying that what Czar did is unhelpful. He also seems to be doing it with games. As I said the Orb-3D article was a copyright violation, which we cannot have at Wikipedia. I had to delete it. The other pages also look like copyright violations to me, but I'll have to do a little more research to find whether they are. If you have an issue with czar's conduct, you should first try and discuss it on his talk page. If the two of you cannot reach an agreement on how to proceed, based on Wikipedia's guidelines, you can try asking for more community input at the talk page of a relevant WikiProject, say Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games. Hey! Yep I read it, well summarised. But it continues again. Advice Sought

Hello Huon,

Since you seem to be an experienced editor , I would like your advice on how to deal with the harassment I am facing. The behavior I recently complained about here is continuing. Just today, that same editor followed me to yet another article he has never edited before, and again reverted my edit with a false claim of vandalism - [1]. He is not participating in any talk page discussion where I have explained my edit (which is clearly not vandalism, but undoing of original research not supported by the given source, and I am not the only one who objected to that material ) - he's just following e around and undoing my edits. If I complain at WP:ANI, admins like The Blade of Northern Lights block me , using spurious claims of "disruption". What am I to do? My suggestion would be to ask for formal dispute resolution, or you could ask at a relevant WikiProject (say, WT:WikiProject Politics for wider community input. Focus to the issue at hand, whether the given reference can be used to support that specific content. Maybe first take a moment to look whether you can find a more reliable source that supports the same basic premise - that would likely also resolve the issue. Hello Frederika Eilers. My own talk page is rather boring when it comes to archiving; I merely create a new sub-page every couple of months, add a link to the top of the talk page, and copy-paste threads from the past few months into the new sub-page. That method is also described at Help:Archiving a talk page#Cut and paste procedure. If you prefer, you can also set up a bot to archive your talk page automatically (for example by removing threads that have been inactive for a couple of days or weeks). ClueBot III is a bot commonly used for that purpose. If you want me to, I can set it up on your talk page with some basic settings that you can then fine-tune to fit your preferences.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by being a visual editor; if that refers to the WYSIWYG "Visual Editor" for editing Wikipedia, you can turn that on in your preferences among the beta features. Reviewing drafts at AfC requires quite some familiarity with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines; the formal requirement is an account 90 days old with 500 live edits to articles. Personally I find reviewing drafts rather mind-numbing, but others may disagree, and help over there will definitely be welcome when you meet the prerequisites. I deleted that article because it provided no indication of the organization's importance and cited no reliable third-party sources. It didn't even say the subject was the largest group of financial advisers in the UK, much less provide evidence for that assertion.

It does not appear that you have done your research very well. The Personal Finance Society (PFS) is not a group or network of advisers that give advice on behalf of one firm or company. It is a professional organisation for financial advisers.

They are the professional body for the UK financial planning profession. Our 35,000+ members.

As an example, PricewaterhouseCoopers are a commercial firm of accountants with membership of the ICAEW. Similarly, large firms of financial advisers may be Chartered members of the PFS and the individual advisers will be members of the PFS.

@Andre1da: I'm sorry, but I still do not see that the organization meets Wikipedia's standards of notability laid out at WP:ORG. Of the sources you provide, only the Financial Times articles would be helpful, and only the 2013 one discusses the Personal Finance Society in any detail. If there's more detailed media coverage of the Personal Finance Society, you're welcome to use the Article Wizard to create a draft that summarizes what those sources report. Should you disagree with my assessment and believe that I deleted the page in error, you are welcome to bring it to the community's attention at WP:Deletion review. Some of those I'd consider the least likely are Docter H.H Holmes, Docter Webster Mudget, or Docter Herman Webster Mudget. For example, I don't think "Docter" is a likely misspelling, certainly not in conjunction with other misspellings or when added to the real name which generally is't associated with a doctoral degree. Inconsistent punctuation also doesn't give a particularly likely search term. I'm aware redirects are cheap, but this seems to be overkill. Huon (talk) 23:53, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Given that there are a thousand admins, give or take a few, that's no reason to single out me, specifically. Anyway, what do you expect me to do about it? Those IPs aren't particularly closely related, so an IP range block wouldn't easily work without massive collateral damage. I rather don't think we should semi-protect all possible Bollywood articles, either. Hello, Huon. On the John Wesley Budweiser Beer Ad section you have a problem with, the significance of this event is that the misrepresentation of John Wesley in this add inspired the early 20th-century American Methodists to become the leaders in the American Temperance Movement. The ad was quite controversial. If you like, I can include some of the rebuttals toward this ad. On my qualifications, if you like, I can copy you with the email replies from the leading men at the Methodist Historical Archives (GCAH) who have for the last two decades sent me letters of commendation for piecing together the history of John Wesley's young protege, Francis Asbury. My recent book, Black Country, details the Wesleyan movement and its effects on Francis Asbury before he departs for the American Colonies in 1771. In addition, Black Country seeks to do that which has not been attempted before, to honor and bring to life Asbury's early preaching circuits in the West Midlands and Southern parts of 18th-century England. Please know that I'm open to suggestions on this information about John Wesley. I consider it, as well as several Wesley scholars, valuable to the legacy of our dear Wesley. Let me know. Thank you. @Al DeFilippo: Wikipedia content should be based on reliable published sources such as history books published with an academic publisher. If such sources have reported about how the Methodists were spurred by this misappropriation of Wesley into supporting the temperance movement, a short summary in the legacy section, citing those sources, might be appropriate, though I wonder whether the article on the temperance movement itself wouldn't be a better place for that content. The ad may have been controversial, but does a discussion of a controversial ad created long after Wesley's death really improve our readers' understanding of Wesley? I rather don't think so. Huon, I respect your opinion. Would you consider an opinion that differs from yours on this? It is the opinion of Dr. Ben Witherington III that the ad is significant. I can submit his opinion which he emailed to me as well as Dr. Kenneth Kinghorn. Both men are Wesley scholars who I have shared the ad with. In addition, on your request of published sources on this event, here is a link to the Western Christian Advocate rebuttal which was published on August 19, 1908. The article defends Wesley quite well. I reference it in my blog post, but didn't want to repeat on the Wiki page. I can reword some of the blog post if you like. Duarte Galactosemia article "help me" response

Hi Huon, thank you for your response to my "help me" on my talk page about my medical references tag on the Duarte Galactosemia article. I responded on there but wanted to respond to you directly as well. There are references now in all of the places that had been indicated as needing medical references before, but the tag is still on my article. The references were actually there in the first place but were removed by some other editor for some reason. @Pianogac: As the message box I left at the draft says, there were no inline citations, making it impossible for our readers to tell which of the references supports which part of the draft's content. For example, "Olga Jegunova has taken part in numerous master classes with Andras Schiff, Ferenz Rados, Elisso Virsaladze, Mikhail Voskresensky and Lazar Berman." - which of the draft's three references should I look up to verify that statement? Such a statement should be accompanied by a footnote pointing out the relevant source. See WP:INCITE and WP:REFB for more details on why and how to provide such inline citations.

Actually it seems that none of the references support the draft's content; all are merely passing mentions that do not cover Jegunova in any detail. None mentions any master classes. None mentions any awards Jegunova has won. None mentions her education, or any information about her at all except that she's Latvian. Sandeep Maheshwari

Hi Huon, I tried creating a page for Sandeep Maheshwari, a notable enterpreneur and a public figure with supporting references. However, the privilege to create the page is restricted to admins only seemingly because of multiple creation and deletion under wikipedia G11 rule way back in 2012 and 2013. You being the last admin to delete the page, I just want to know whether this blocking can be reverted so that I can create the page? If it is irriversible, I'd want to request you to create a simple page with the title and allow me to complete the page as I've already got the draft almost ready. Will this be possible? @Split25: I'm sorry, but that draft is not suitable to become a live article. Just like the previously-deleted articles it is insufficiently referenced (with many sources originating with Maheshwari himself or only mentioning him in passing; much of the content does not cite any sources at all), and the content is unduly promotional. If that page were moved into articlespace it would immediately be nominated for deletion again.

When you have fixed those problems you can submit the draft for a review by an experienced editor by adding {{subst:submit}} to the very top, including the curly brackets. Huon (talk) 22:30, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

I have seen that there are thousands of noted professors profiles are there on the Wikipedia. My page also belongs to one of the noted associate professor in saudi arabia, now who is DEAN of Information Technolgoy.

Do you want me to re write the article and publish ? Can you please suggest me the way to re publish the article again. I will re-write it and put in sandbox for you to review or I request you to create a simple page with the title and allow me to edit rest of the page. @Unus32: As I noted on your talk page, you will need to show that those people were the subjects of significant coverage in reliable published sources such as newspapers or reputable magazines. The sources you provided (at least those for the article I checked) all were passing mentions that reported on some board meeting or the like and did not provide any details on Fahad Ahmed Yahya Al-Zahrani. You may want to take a look at our guidelines on notability, WP:BIO and WP:PROF. Then I'd advise you to use the Article Wizard to write a new draft that summarizes (in your own words) what those sources report. Huon (talk) 01:21, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

User:Mikelinsf edits to Periscope (app)

Very questionable additions with outright plagiarism of sources, peacock terms and inflation of numerical facts. I went through and corrected what I could find in an about 90 minutes coming from almost no knowledge of Periscope. I mostly retired from Wikipedia because of this trend of fake news sources, paid editors, frustration with my increasingly slower ability to edit. Seeking advice regarding external links

Hello, my friend. I recently posted at User talk:Leadly, in response to another's removal of an external link that he added. I asked Leadly to not "promote his website at Wikipedia" ([3][4]). I felt that they were WP:ELNO #11 "...Blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority..." I may have been wrong. I felt that, although the sites are non-commercial, the user was promoting them and now he is upset. Perhaps I was influenced by the fact that both sites are owned by the same person and guessed that the editor is that person, and that the editor who added them has only made five edits, three of which have been to add the external links. Should these external links be permitted? They are very nice images, albeit watermarked with their website. Thoughts? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:57, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

I am completely baffled how you can assume that promoting a community resource is somehow inseparably bound to self promotion. The sites in question while created by me have been mostly static for years. In fact, they both predate Wikipedia. So, if promoting user access to a relevant resource intended for the communities enjoyment is in fact deemed selfish then it will serve as proof that the pessimistic adage of "No good deed goes unpunished" is in fact true.
