Userboxes

[edit]

Hi, to get your userboxes into a column you can enter:

{{Userboxtop}} {{User Name|Isabell}} {{user en}} {{user Secondary School}} {{User:Feureau/UserBox/ProudWikipedian}} {{User Meta-Wiki}} {{User:UBX/all IM}} {{user irc2|issyl0|irc.freenode.net}} {{User:UBX/community addicted}} {{User Wikipedia reference}} {{User:Will_Pittenger/User_Boxes/Edit_Count_Usefulness}} {{Proofreader|fr|French}} {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} {{User wikipedia/NP Patrol}} {{User wikipedia/RP Patrol}} {{User:Feureau/UserBox/ubx-5}} {{Userboxbottom}} {{Babel|en-N|fr-4}}

or.... to put them into a hidden box you would enter something like:

{|align="right" width="160px" style="background-color: transparent;" |- |<div> {{boxboxtop| }} <div class="NavFrame collapsed" style="padding: 0; border-style: none;"> <div class="NavFrame collapsed" style="border-style: none; padding: 0;"> <div class="NavHead" style="background: #edf1f1; text-align: left; text-style: normal;"> Isabell121 (userboxes)</div><div class="NavContent" style=""> {{User Name|Isabell}} {{user en}} {{user Secondary School}} {{User:Feureau/UserBox/ProudWikipedian}} {{User Meta-Wiki}} {{User:UBX/all IM}} {{user irc2|issyl0|irc.freenode.net}} {{User:UBX/community addicted}} {{User Wikipedia reference}} {{User:Will_Pittenger/User_Boxes/Edit_Count_Usefulness}} {{Proofreader|fr|French}} {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} {{User wikipedia/NP Patrol}} {{User wikipedia/RP Patrol}} {{User:Feureau/UserBox/ubx-5}} </div></div></div> {{boxboxbottom}} {{Babel|en-N|fr-4}}

Hello, thanks for the edit you made to Girl Geek Dinners recently. It is helpful to add wikilinks, but only to words that link to articles that would be useful to understanding the topic. Years and dates don't tend to get linked anymore, although they used to, because it's not considered very helpful. In this case for example, it's not going to help any one reading about Girl Geek Dinners to go to the article August. You can read more about linking at Wikipedia:Linking.

The other thing I wanted to mention, is that creating these links doesn't affect whether or not the page is an "orphan". Being an orphan means that there are no links coming into the article from other articles, or very few. You can test this by clicking "What links here" in the toolbox to the left. Generally if an article has a few mainspace links coming in, then it's not an orphan. By mainspace, I mean they have to be other articles, not talkpages, userpages or Wikipedia project pages or redirects. Hope this makes things clearer, feel free to ask if you have any questions. Keep up the good editing! --BelovedFreak 09:47, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message! I guess I'm a little out of touch with Wikipedia now, considering I linked dates/months. Thanks, now I know for in the future. I just wanted to help and will continue doing so bearing your comments/suggestions in mind. And re: orphans: surely it helps a little bit having it link to other articles?  :) Thanks, Issyl0 (talk) 13:48, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, yeah the date linking thing is more recent. I guess the thing to think about when linking, is, is this other article going to help the reader to understand this article. I used to link all over the place, but I'm getting better. I had a look at Tony1's guide to linking here; it's not official or anything, but it helped me to think about links a bit differently. Of course, it's important to have some links! As far as orphans - it's not that having links to other articles isn't helpful, it's just that an "orphan" is defined by the number of links coming in, so there could be 100 links to other articles, but if no articles link to it, it's still an orphan. Hope that helps! --BelovedFreak 21:12, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Issyl0,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Recent Changes Patrollers!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about technical proposals related to Recent Changes Patrol in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

  1. Adjust number of entries and days at Last unpatrolled
  2. Editor-focused central editing dashboard
  3. "Hide trusted users" checkbox option on watchlists and related/recent changes (RC) pages
  4. Real-Time Recent Changes App for Android
  5. Shortcut for patrollers to last changes list

Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.

account creator

[edit]

After reviewing your request for the "accountcreator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:

  • The account creator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The account creator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the account creator right will result in its removal by an administrator.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the account creator right. Happy editing! Katietalk 12:04, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Wikify: Current Backlog Reduction Plan

[edit]

Hey, I noticed you marked yourself as a member of WikiProject Wikify and you are currently listed as active. I was wondering if you would be able to assist with our current backlog reduction plan. While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by WikiProject Wikify members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the Underlinked Template Message - {{underlinked}} - a list of which can be found here - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have nothing to link or are have had wikilinks sufficiently added should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider joining if they haven't done so already. Thank you!
