What do you think about AIs on Wikipedia?
[edit]Hi LiamUJ,
Welcome to the Wikipedia community!
Did you know that Artificial Intelligences (AIs) support Wikipedia? I saw your post on Teahouse, and I’m personally contacting a small handful of new Wikipedia editors to make sure your voice is heard as we build and refine these AIs.
Will you please provide an interview to share your thoughts about AI on Wikipedia? It would only take about 30 minutes over phone or video chat. We will send you a $15 Amazon gift card as a way to thank you for your time.
I am working in collaboration with Wikimedia Foundation staff to do this research, so if you decide to participate, your opinion could help build the future of Wikipedia. Hope to talk to you soon!
PS. You can learn more about our study here.
Best, Bowen, aka Bobo.03 (talk) 19:12, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Bobo.03! I appreciate you asking me for the interview, but I do not think I am available to have one at this time. Thanks for reaching out to me about it though. --LiamUJ (talk) 12:39, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
- @LiamUJ: Got it. Thank you for letting me know and hope all the things are going well for you! Bobo.03 (talk) 13:33, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:MV Kaye E. Barker in January 2005.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:MV Kaye E. Barker in January 2005.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nthep (talk) 20:27, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for uploading File:MV Kaye E. Barker in January 2005.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. - Sorry for the inconvenience. I was unaware there were other images of the boat in my file available on Wikipedia. I have used another in the article I created. --LiamUJ (talk) 15:18, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:MV Kaye E. Barker in January 2005.jpg

[edit]Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Hedy Lamarr: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 18:47, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Rollback
[edit]I have granted the "rollbacker" permission to your account. After a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, contact me and I will remove it. Good luck and thanks. – Gilliam (talk) 18:33, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Gilliam: Thank you for giving me this permission! I will use it justly. --LiamUJ (talk) 18:35, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for May 31
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Soda pop (disambiguation), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Outsiders (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 11:46, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know! I've fixed the link so that it directs to The Outsiders (novel). --LiamUJ (talk) 11:59, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 election voter message
[edit]Chinlund article
[edit]Prior to editing the James Chinlund page, I put a justification on the Talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:James_Chinlund
You left a message on my Talk page indicating you were reverting the edit because it "did not appear constructive." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mariedegournay#September_2019
Your comment does not reference the justification that I put in the Talk page (which I mentioned in a comment when saving the edit). Did you see my justification in the Talk page?
- I did not see that justification. It was my mistake, I apologize. In the future, I'll make sure to look more thoroughly for that kind of thing. Thanks for letting me know (Also, as a side note, I can't find any revert of mine in the edit history of James Chinlund. I might have attempted to revert your edits, but I don't think it went through, possibly because you edited the page again in the time that I tried. I must not have realized, and posted the notice on your talk page anyway). Also, just so you know, you only referenced that talk page justification in your edits on September 20, whereas I gave you the notice on September 19. --LiamUJ (talk) 14:22, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- It looks like the revert was done by Accesscrawl which sounds like a bot but perhaps is a normal user account?
- As I noted in my comment to Accesscrawl, it is interesting that both of you wished to revert to an uncited claim, which happens to be incorrect. If it’s uncited, perhaps it’s worth looking into the reason for my change (AGF).
- I appreciate the apology but it does not change my impression that the culture of wikipedia editors is rigid and not welcoming to new editors (don’t bite). Ultimately it places limitations on the quality of Wikipedia, as well as the quality of my experience trying to contribute. Mariedegournay (talk) 16:18, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- This is a great example of the conservatism that wants to keep things as they are, *even when uncited*. Meanwhile editors enforce the requirement for all claims to be cited (a good rule). Mariedegournay (talk) 16:20, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Makes it hard to function. Its demoralizing. Mariedegournay (talk) 16:21, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry you feel that way. I tried not to seem BITEy with the message I posted on your talk page (a template, by the way). Also, I'm not sure whether the culture of Wikipedia is rigid and unwelcoming to new users, although I'm sure it can definitely feel overwhelming and can seem somewhat emotionless to a new user. I do hope you choose to continue to add to Wikipedia. --LiamUJ (talk) 17:26, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Talk page is a template: what does that mean or what is the significance of that?
- Here’s a statement from an Atlantic article regarding the experience of new editors, although it is dated now: “ The authors of a study published in American Behavioral Scientist in 2012 concluded that the number of active Wikipedia contributors has been declining because the site’s community isn’t welcoming enough to new editors. ‘For somebody who’s making their first edit,’ acknowledges Katherine Maher, ‘we could do more to make it clearer as to what constitutes an edit that is in good faith, that is not a conflict-of-interest edit.’
- From The Atlantic:
- I did not feel the tone of your post was BITEy, but the intent to revert to an uncited claim without investigation was. And you apologized which I accept. I still maintain that good-faith participants who make an effort to follow the Byzantine rules are discouraged from contributing because of knee-jerk policing of changes. Mariedegournay (talk) 18:22, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Perhaps you mean your response was a template. Again I thought the comment was fine. Mariedegournay (talk) 18:23, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I meant that my response was a template, which I posted using the Twinkle tool. I again admit that the fault was mine for reverting it so quickly. If it helps, it wasn't personal or attempting to follow the "Byzantine rules" or attempting to force any particular policy, aside from the policies on unconstructive editing (obviously); your edit had shown up on a filter of possible bad faith edits, so I checked the edit history of the page and decided to revert. My mistake. --LiamUJ (talk) 18:58, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- ...but again, the revert didn't go through. As you can see from this link, none of your changes were reverted until September 20, and like I said, I posted that message on the 19th. --LiamUJ (talk) 18:58, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Interesting that it was flagged as a possible bad faith edit. Sounds like that filter could use improvement. Whe it shows up there, it probably primes the editor to suspend AGF. I don’t know who designs those filters but that is part of the problem here.
- Whether the edit went through or not is immaterial since you intended to revert. But again, apology accepted. Thanks. Mariedegournay (talk) 19:21, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Mariedegournay: Also, just to be clear, Accesscrawl is not a bot user. --LiamUJ (talk) 14:13, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
