Control copyright icon Hello Nikko Curtis, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Draft:Petroteq Energy Inc. have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:20, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Editing with a possible conflict of interest

[edit]
Information icon

Hello Nikko Curtis. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Nikko Curtis. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Nikko Curtis|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. --SamHolt6 (talk) 22:52, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose.

Request reason:

I was not advertising or promoting anything. This is a false claim. I am not affiliated with nor do I get paid by Petroteq Energy in any way or any form. I just got help from a wiki specialist and the person who deleted the Petroteq Energy Inc page. They told me how to make necessary edits and take out certain text that could be making it seem like a promotion. I then made the necessary edits to get the page approved, then I look back on here and I am blocked for making edits. Nikko Curtis (talk) 16:18, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I think you're going to have to give more details on this "help from a wiki specialist", which sounds a lot like paid editing. Please disclose any payments that occured, who did the payment, and on what articles. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 17:31, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I first spoke with Talk! and this is what she had to say - Hello Liz, I would love your help understanding why my article was deleted again and how I can make the necessary changes? You declined my article for the below reason - Declining; "draft reads like placed PR, and the "Patented Clean oil Recovery Technology" subheading is blatant advertising. Possibly a WP:NCORP failure as well." However, this company has a patented process called C.O.R.T. and it stands for Clean Oil Recovery Technology. I am not attempting to advertise and am not affiliated with this company in any way. I am simply a writer and activist who wants to write more articles on clean energy. I looked directly at the source page from a similar company on wikipedia when creating this one (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Anadarko_Petroleum&action=edit). Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong and allow me to finish this article? Thank you, Nikko — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nikko Curtis (talkcontribs) 19:07, 30 May 2019 (UTC) Nikko Curtis (talk) 19:12, 30 May 2019 (UTC) :Hello, Nikko, :Can you give me the exact name of the page? Was it a draft? I didn't tag your article for deletion but I guess I checked it out and followed through on the deletion. But I edit a lot of articles and it would be helpful if you gave me a link to where your deleted article page. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:46, 30 May 2019 (UTC) By the time I noticed her message, I was blocked and couldn't respond. I then spoke to an individual on kiwiirc.com #wikipedia-en-help and I was told to remove the "Patented Clean oil Recovery Technology" headline and to remove the multiple company citations. I made the necessary edits and was told to resubmit, but I was already blocked. I would love the opportunity for you to review my article for re-submission! Also, to address this payment thing that keeps being mentioned, this is the first article of many I plan to write about disruptive industries. I run a clothing line. (tastemakercollective.com) That is my day job. However, I want to make what little change I can with my spare time by writing articles on companies and organizations who I feel could help our environment move in a brighter direction. That is all. I would appreciate the help to get started. Thank you, Nikko[reply]

Decline reason:

I'm afraid we really aren't interested in paid editors. You've been violating WP:COI, WP:PAID, and WP:PROMO, as well as our terms of use. Yamla (talk) 23:21, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What? Did you not read anything I just said!? I DID NOT AND DO NOT GET PAID BY ANYONE TO WRITE ANY ARTICLES! You are making false claims! Please refer me to someone who will actually be helpful. Thank you, Nikko

Decline reason:

Not a compelling explanation. It's pretty obvious that there is a WP:COI here. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:29, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
