Welcome!

Hello, Otisfrog, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Writ Keeper 17:16, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Apologies[edit]

Hey, Otisfrog, I'm sorry for tagging Mercedes (name) for deletion under A10; I didn't think about page splits. The reviewing admin quite rightly declined it. I removed the unnecessary notice from this page; again, I apologize! Writ Keeper 19:39, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

T. J.'s (Newport)[edit]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a search with the contents of T. J.'s (Newport), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: T. J.'s. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. MadmanBot (talk) 21:34, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

T.J.'s, T.J. Maxx and T. J.'s (Newport)[edit]

Hi Otisfrog!

It appears you tried to do the following:

I have undone these changes for a number of reasons (and left T. J.'s (Newport) as a redirect to T.J.'s:

  1. The only subject who's common name is "T.J.'s" is the nightclub in question, and therefore that should be the name of the article on the nightclub.
  2. If there is a concern that someone looking for T.J. Maxx will get the wrong article by searching "T.J.", that is why there is a disambiguation link at the top of the article for other uses of "TJ". Feel free to add a reference to T.J. Maxx at that disambiguation page (TJ).
  3. Copy/pasting within Wikipedia is not good. Rather than reciting the reasons why here, read through Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

Let me know if you have any questions. Singularity42 (talk) 21:55, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Julian C. Day[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Julian C. Day has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 22:05, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

June 2012[edit]

Thanks for contributing new article Julian C. Day. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable, by being clearly attributed to reliable sources. Please help by adding more sources to the article you created, and/or by clarifying how the sources already given support the material (see here for how to do inline referencing). Many thanks! PS If you need any help, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 22:27, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Christina Hendricks. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Elizium23 (talk) 21:36, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Nicholas with this edit. When removing content, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the content has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Proposed deletion of Mack Bernard[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Mack Bernard has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! Disambiguation link notification for November 20[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Parental Advisory, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page MDNA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Only warning[edit]

I don't know why you tagged two perfectly acceptable pages with deletion tags, but I imagine it's in some sort of retaliation for the proposed deletion of an article you created above. Please note that Wikipedia is not a game, and tagging acceptable articles for deletion with spurious reasons is disruptive. If you continue, you will be blocked. Orphaned non-free media (File:Poeticjusticekenlamar.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading File:Poeticjusticekenlamar.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 16:18, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of Haughton Elevator Company for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Haughton Elevator Company is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Haughton Elevator Company until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Peter James (talk) 22:47, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

Also your user page has two userboxes claiming you are an administrator on Wikipedia and the Meta wiki, although this account has no administrator privilege - please remove these userboxes (or if this is an administrator's alternative account, link to your main account). Peter James (talk) 22:55, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Actually, I've just gone ahead and removed the claims; while users are generally free to do with their user page as they wish, they are explicitly not allowed to claim a WP flag (administrator, checkuser, etc.) that they do not hold. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:12, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Jodeen A. Kozlak[edit]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Jodeen A. Kozlak, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.diversitybestpractices.com/person/jodee-kozlak.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. Copyright problems with Jodeen A. Kozlak[edit]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Jodeen A. Kozlak, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.diversitybestpractices.com/person/jodee-kozlak. As a copyright violation, Jodeen A. Kozlak appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Jodeen A. Kozlak has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Jodeen A. Kozlak and send an email with the message to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at Talk:Jodeen A. Kozlak with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Jodeen A. Kozlak.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 23:25, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

  • You cannot copy text from the other website. You can write an article about Kozlak in your own words, but you can't copy the content. —C.Fred (talk) 23:37, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Please leave the maintenance templates in place while other editors review the article[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Jodee Kozlak, a page you have created yourself. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion and appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. You could also click on the signature button Insert-signature.png or Button sig.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. On creating an article[edit]

Re this comment left on my talk page:

can i creat a new article based on Target Kozlak — Preceding unsigned comment added by Otisfrog (talkcontribs) 23:37, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Maybe. There are a number of things you'll have to do for the article to stick around. Most critically:

  • You must write the article in your own words. You cannot copy sentences or paragraphs from other websites.
  • You must demonstrate that Kozlak is notable. That doesn't mean she's notable within Target; that means she's notable as a person in general. WP:BIO has specific criteria that make a person notable; I don't see how Kozlak satisfies any of those.

Unless you can demonstrate notability, then no, you may not create an article on her. —C.Fred (talk) 00:01, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Removing maintenance tags is disruptive[edit]

Please stop removing speedy deletion notices from pages that you have created yourself, as you did with Jodee Kozlak. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. —C.Fred (talk) 00:07, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Forgive me for being blunt, but here is a final warning[edit]

What part of these two statements is unclear?

  • Do not copy text from another website to the Jodee Kozlak article (or any other article here).
  • Do not delete maintenance tags like {{db-bio}} or {{BLP unreferenced}} from an article you created.

Please respond if either of these is unclear. If do either of them again, your account will be blocked. —C.Fred (talk) 00:10, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Gregg Steinhafel's DOB[edit]

How are you calculating a year of birth for Gregg Steinhafel? The only source cited in the article gives an age for him but says that's current as of the most recent definitive proxy; it doesn't say when that proxy was written. —C.Fred (talk) 00:45, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Stop hand nuvola.svg This is your last warning. You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize a page, as you did with this edit to Argo (2012 film). Thingg 01:05, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Hurricane Isaac[edit]

Hello Otisfrog, I found you through your edits to articles such as the Palm Beach Mall (I was reading it because of the recent demolition) and noticed that you live in the West Palm Beach area like I do :). Anyway, I asked Grahambrunk this too, but he appears to be much less active than you. I am a member of WikiProject Tropical cyclones and created an article called Effects of Hurricane Isaac (2012) in Florida, which is a separate article specifically about impact from Hurricane Isaac in that sate. What I am wanting to know is if you have pictures from the storm (like standing water/flooding) and would be willing to upload them to that page and/or Commons. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Targetroseville.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:Targetroseville.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. TKK bark ! 02:03, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
