Autochthonous/indigenous[edit]

I don't mind either way as to autochthonous/indigenous for the languages in question. I reverted because they're not all Celtic. Taverner Consort and Players - establishment date[edit]

Richard, thanks for the notes at my talk page; I had failed to take proper note of the first one - my apologies. I have recatted Taverner Consort and Players from Category:Musical groups established in 1978 to Category:1970s establishments. If a clear year for the group's establishment can be identified then it would be good to re-cat the article to the appropriate musical groups establishment cat. As and when I (or someone else) get around to building the decade cats for musical groups establishments then the problem, if it still exists, will be solved. Cape Clear (software company)[edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Cape Clear (software company), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Category:Command and control[edit]

Hi there, Thought you'd be interested to know that I just added Category:Command and control as a parent cat for Category:Nuclear command and control, which I had created back in July '07. A nice matchup, if I do say so myself. I had my hands full with the nuclear aspects of the subject when I set up Category:Nuclear command and control and didn't take the obvious next step of creating Category:Command and control, so it was a nice surprise to find it just now. I had created some pages on Squidoo, as somewhere I could assemble links and other material on Service Engineering and other topics, which might not be appropriate for Wikipedia. (Some material I had added to WP on service engineering was deleted, on the grounds that service engineering was not notable enough.) I included a link to these pages from my User Page, in case anyone was interested in looking at what I was working on. Someone called JzG deleted this link on the grounds it was blacklisted (I was not aware of this), and added a PROD template for good measure, claiming that my user page was "apparently abandoned". A new Oxbridge user box[edit]

RichardVeryard...I am currently in the process of writing a user box for all of the colleges that are part of Oxbridge. This template is meant to replace your current college template. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

Bach students[edit]

Re: your query on the CfD page: If you can tell me what the name of the deleted category was that housed the J.S. Bach students, I can find out what the contents were by examining the contributions of the bot that deleted the category. I'm happy to do that for you and provide you with a list, I'm just not sure what the category name was. Alternatively, do you know approximately when it was deleted? According to the logs I looked at, the only article in the category when the discussion was closed was Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach. The closer manually removed this category from that article and then deleted the category. No other articles were removed from the category by the closer or his bot. That's probably why a list was not created—usually it is not done for very small categories that are deleted. Hopefully this information helps you out. Oh dear. I distinctly recall that Category:Students of Johann Sebastian Bach was very well populated, at least 25 or 30 articles I believe (perhaps as many as 40-45). Category:Students of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, which should also be listified, was smaller, perhaps 15-20 articles as I recall. Cgingold (talk) 12:46, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, well if so, the articles weren't removed by Kbdank71 or his bot, the user who closed the discussion. Someone else must have emptied the categories prior to the discussion being closed. Okay, I just combed through the bio article, and found links to 3 people identified as students. He also had 4 or 5 children who became notable composers, and they of course were among his students, as well. (I'm a bit surprised that there isn't at least a modest paragraph about his influence as a teacher -- it gets just a passing reference in the "Legacy" section.) I checked the edit histories for the non-relatives and found that 2 of them (Johann Christoph Altnickol and Lorenz Christoph Mizler) had been included in the category. Both were removed by Kbdankbot on August 1, 2008, here and here -- so I would presume the others were, as well. No idea why they don't show up in the logs for the bot. PS - I could be wrong about the numbers I estimated, but I feel pretty certain that there were considerably more than the 6 or 7 that I've accounted for. Casting your mind back to Nov 2007 ...[edit]

I found this note in the talk page for Category:SOA-related products:

I created this category as a subcategory of Category:Software. Someone just removed this without explanation. I certainly think it needs a link to this category, but perhaps to one of its subcategories, so I have added it to Category:Software systems instead. --RichardVeryard 19:15, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

It was probably me that did the deed (there is now no history), although I would normally leave an edit summary. Me, or not, I can explain the edit. You're right, subcategory is correct. Category:Software is the top of the tree and SOA did not belong at the top; it is a subcat of business. The tree structure for SOA is: Software -> Application software -> Business software -> SOA related products. The edit you saw was probably changing "Software" to "Business software". If you're curious, look at Category:Application software for an outline (of sorts) of the application software categories. You can see why subcategories are so necessary. (btw, happened onto your note only because a robot just changed the name, from ... product to ... products and I had to repair that outline and chanced to look at the talk page)

And, having found your note, I'll delete the "Software systems" category. That is a junk category; an appealing name that attracts categorizations just as a blank wall attracts graffiti! Apologies for the 2007 confusion. tooold (talk) 23:00, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear RichardVeryard, my name is Vinesh Patel, a 5th Year medic at Imperial. I'm trying to start an Imperial College Wikipedia society, presenting to the union by the end of the month. Would you be interested?

We are also pursuing lots of other things – research into Wikipedia use, GLAM wiki stuff with local museums, using Wikipedia in teaching.
