Chicago[edit]

Because of your work with the WikiProject Cities I'd like you to take a look at the Chicago article if you have the time & desire. It is currently up for Peer Review (see Chicago Talk) and I would enjoy hearing your feedback to help guide the growth of this article. Jasenlee 01:13, Apr 14, 2005 (UTC)

Good job keeping the UN Trusteeship Council up-to-date on the news. I have added a source from Reuters. Thanks, Rad Racer 14:48, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi - Your last edit somehow got botched (dropped the last couple of sections of the article). I reverted to the immediately previous version. Just letting you know so you can redo whatever change you were attempting to make. -- Rick Block 17:09, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Dot project[edit]

Seth,

Have you seen http://www.mattkruse.com/perl/ ? Look near the bottom at mapplot. I don't know enough about perl to know if that'd be useful for the dot project, or if you could legally use his script to create images that are licensed the way wikipedia images need to be, but it's something to look at.

Logical? Nah[edit]

Buddy, why'd you vote for deletion? He's the only teenager in the band, and all bands start off local, so why not just hit up Cradle of Filth, they started off with a teenager in a local band. The vote is illogical, and is contradicted in so many ways by other WikipediA entries.

When the band does something as notable as Cradle of Filth, then it's certainly deserving of an article. But the band in question hasn't yet, unless you can show me evidence otherwise. At this point in time and space, it's not notable, and doesn't merit a Wikipedia article. -- Seth Ilys 00:28, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Template:B5[edit]

Hi there, I am thinking of extending the B5 template to link to the sub cats (races characters, episodes and ships) and creating a new sub cat called Babylon 5 cast and crew. Since you created the template and have done a lot of work on the B5 articles I thought it would be wise to ask your opinion. Also do you feel that this box should be on every Babylon 5 page? -- Lochaber 13:45, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

It has been done, thanks for the input. I thought it was best to be polite and ask just in case :-) -- Lochaber 16:57, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think you've got a point about not featuring articles that are on VFD. However, I'd like to remind you that it's already archived at Template talk:Did you know, ready to be archived by a bot as soon as User:AllyUnion finishes it, or in one big move to make sure nothing is forgotten and everything is in the correct order. Archiving Google Gulp now causes many older items to be skipped. Mgm|(talk) 09:47, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

sethbot town redirects[edit]

These don't seem to work right. They don't automatically bring you to the correct page. Is this your intent? Vegaswikian 19:05, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • As you asked:

If I enter this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Townsend%2C_MA the screen shows

This is a redirect from a title with a U.S. postal abbreviation. List others; Edit the message (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Redir_from_US_postal_ab&action=edit).

A couple of obscure broken redirects that someone is never going to link to isn't really harming the Wiki at all. I will try to go through and fix them before long, though. -- Seth Ilys 23:30, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I recently came across FLMap-doton-WillistonHighlands.PNG, which you uploaded as part of your dot project. I marked it unverified for right now, because I don't want to overstep my bounds, but I assume it fell through the cracks, not being tagged or added to Williston Highlands, Florida. It's currently marked unverified. grendel|khan 21:06, 2005 Apr 21 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Userspace_policy_proposal[edit]

Hi there! I noticed you oppose most points here on grounds that they are redundant with existing policy, or with common sense. I wholeheartedly agree that they are redundant as such - however, the point of the proposal is (and perhaps this should be clarified on that page) that most policies are cheerfully ignored in user space. As stated at the top, we should either assert plainly that the relevant policies do apply in userspace (since that isn't obvious to everybody) or we should amend policy stating that they do not apply in user space.

In general, people can post personal attacks, disruptions and other unpleasantness in userspace, and claim that since it's userspace, that is all right. The whole question is, should existing policy apply? If you think it should, please consider voting to reflect that. Yours, Radiant_* 08:01, Apr 28, 2005 (UTC)

Please see Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Pandeism and add your vote. Thanks. --brian0918™ 21:13, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

List of State leaders[edit]

I am fully aware that the dates are not accurate, but we have to start at some date and the chronoclogy become more secure as the years pass. I think lists showing which kings were contemporary with each others are usefull, also for the ancient world, even if the dates are not exact. I have strictly followed the king lists when choosing dates, as these appears to be mostly consistent with each others. Many of theindividuall entries for the Mesopotamian kings still appears to be in large part taken from the 1911 BE. I don't think these lists do any damage, since they just link together information that already exist on Wikipedia. As such the information aren't any less verifiable than the king lists themselves. We already have many pages that are mcuh more speculative than these Fornadan 15:29, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Frankly, the reason for starting so far back was one of methology, since I could then start with a relativly small lists and then gradually expand as I go along (I have notes which show when the diffrent lists starts), without leaving anything behind. Fornadan 15:55, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have thought over it a bit and decided to move forward to 701, but I still want the old pages to be kept Fornadan 13:49, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

small Sethbot bug[edit]

Hello, I noticed a minor problem with a redirect Waukesha (town), WI created by Sethbot. The redirect was not working correctly because the parentheses in the wiki link were escaped. I thought that it was the appended template at first, but unescaping is what made it work correctly. It's not a big deal, but I thought you might want to know. --Eponymous Coward 18:13, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There are about 150 (some created by you) with a charset problem like (that). I left West_Brookfield_(town),_Worcester_County,_MA as is and D6 fixed the other ones. BTW it made also Walker, TX Ranger Lever and 2 ;-) -- User:Docu

Welcome to Fort Collins[edit]

Let me be the first Wikipedian to welcome you to your new community. It was A coincidence that I was down at the library today doing some local history research when I saw your edit at Larimer County. I see you're going to CSU. I know plenty of people there, but not in your department. I've been staying here in my old hometown (alumnus of this old dump) while doing a writing project and peregrinating around parts of the West. Most of my friends have long-since fled "fort fun", but I still know a few interesting places. I've long respected your contributions especially with maps. Perhaps an informal wikimeet is in order after you get settled in? -- Decumanus 00:31, 2005 Jun 5 (UTC)

Sethbot state abbreviation redirecting[edit]

Hi Seth, can you explain to me the purpose of creating redirects that don't work as redirects? I'm referring to just one that I've seen come up on Special:Newpages for Natural Bridge, VA. By rights redirects should not appear on new pages and when they do it's because some error has been made somewhere. I'm just wondering why the extra text added to the redirect is there because that's what's stopping it from being a redirect: wouldn't this be better placed on the redirect's talk page? -- Francs2000 | Talk [[]] 14:51, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

re:Pakistan[edit]

On behalf of myself and all others on RC patrol tonight thank you for protecting Pakistan, we were all starting to get tired of endlessly reverting the revert war reverts. Hopefully this can be worked through quickly so the page can once again be uncocked. Jtkiefer 07:04, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

I would like to thank you too for protecting the article. Although I should point out the two unsourced, POV and highly disputed sections added by the 'controversial' user should be excluded from the protected state. I hope you can do this and your help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. --Anonymous editor 07:07, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)
In response to your message to me: The fact is that although the user was persistent in putting the material in, it is not factual and as you can see most of it is highly unrelated, not encyclopedia standard and is simply unsourced anti-Pakistan POV. So, although I would appreciate the removal, I realize the pressure on you currently, but hope that you will consider it. Thanks.--Anonymous editor 07:24, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for protecting the article Pakistan. The repeated edit war is unfortunate, I have stopped changing anything after the last dispute and resulting edit war that put the article in protected state the last time (before current one). I do believe discussion rather than bilateral reversion of content is healthy for the article, and in my edits to the article (see my contributions [7]), I have tried to maintain non-POV, non partisan status of the article. The main dispute of the article is the constant edit war between 2 seemingly opposite views, which seem to come from the Anti-Pakistani Indian camp, and the Pro-Pakistani group. In the past, there were several attempts by the second camp to either inflate statistics in favor of Pakistan or remove certain sections unfavorable to Pakistan. There were also many edits by the first group trying to put negative items on Pakistan or remove sections/content favorable to Pakistan, like (Human rights issues, focusing totally on Pakistan's botched record, copied from other websites) (History of Pakistan, whether the Pakistani people has any lineage from Alexander's people) (Whether Pakistan's Technology sector is doing well) etc. In almost all cases, I have tried to make the article balanced, non-biased and NPOV. The problem is that not too many admins or other users monitor the article properly and regularly, and I have got flak from both pro and anti-pakistani editors for changing/rewording/adding NPOV content. I hope the current ugly revert war would draw more neutral admins/editors to put the article on their watchlist and monitor changes on a regular basis. Also, the discussions on the Talk page are seemingly bilateral, not a multi-way discussion (except for the use of alleged sockpuppets). Please have the article on your watchlist, and at least when you have time, monitor any possible POV, either pro or anti-pakistani. Thanks a lot, and sorry for the somewhat long comment. --Ragib 07:49, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sockpuppets[edit]

Please realize that OmerFa and King1 and numerous other new users are all sockpuppets of SamTr014. This is just an attempt to make himself look like he is getting support and different POVs which agree with him. Just thought I'd make you aware. --Anonymous editor 01:53, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)
