Sweet nostalgia
[edit]- this made me a) decide I need a new motto; and b) think that we should open a new logo contest, just for the hell of it. Hee.
Also, do you happen to know off the top of your head what time periods we are missing histories from? It looks like much of 2001 but I'm curious about exact months. -- phoebe/(talk) 07:57, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Surveys on Wikiversity
[edit]Hi Sj. While wading around looking for surveys to connect with, I found yours. I'm tryng to get an "online" one working and announced on Wikiversity, and thought you might like to give it a try. See the instructions on the top of v:Wikimedian Demographics... just copy the substituted emplate, follow the link, paste and save, and more directions pop up. I'm hoping to announce it on all the English projects (and commons and meta) over the next few days. Let me know what you think! --SB_Johnny | talk 12:53, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, re your recent edit to ths article [1], could you be a bit more specific? I went to The Times' podcast page [2] and found a bewildering array of different ones, but none seemed to be related to Sark. --Tony Sidaway 10:21, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

This WikiProject is having a revival and is trying to determine the direction it will be heading in the future. Questions are being asked, and exciting things are coming in the future, including the bringing of 1345 and other year articles to GA and even FA status. You are listed as a member and are invited to respond to this roll-call by putting an asterisk next to your username on the members list to show that you are still active in the project. Thanks. Wrad (talk) 20:21, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think you hit a row of nails right on the head! Looks like a lot of people are gaining new interest in the project, so it looks like this revival is growing and we may be able to get some answers. Wrad (talk) 14:53, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

wiki administration
[edit]Hi Sj,
It seems you enjoy helping build communities. Could you assist in a book review project I'm working on? both are historicalwiki.org and readandreview.org Readandreview.org is a more general site and is mostly a clean slate. I know they are messed up, but I'm sure they can be built up with care.

Hi there
[edit]I don't think our paths have crossed, but my friend Steven Walling (talk · contribs) said you had a recent blog post that touched on the best way to move toward local chapters of the WMF. But, we couldn't find it. Can you shed any light on this? Thanks! -Pete (talk)
- Hello Pete, it's been a while since I wrote that -- I think on meta, not on my blog. Until I track it down... I think chapters should form where there is motivation to have a formal local organization, and national chapters should exist to support active projects within their countries -- notably those not already part of a separate chapter -- and help organize national gatherings / coordinate meetups across groups. Similarly, I think there should be an international association of wikipedians which can among other things support local projects where there are no chapters, and lend a hand with large-geogrpahy events. +sj + 23:30, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Would you maybe be interested in chatting on the phone about this? I'll try to shoot you an email soon with a rough sketch of my thoughts, but they're a little half-baked, and I'd enjoy discussing with someone who's put some good thought into this. - P.S. I thought I'd "Join The Boston Wikipedia Meetup Group" but didn't see any sign that I was on a secure (signup) page. ?? Martha (talk) 19:00, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

I've scheduled the first two Providence meetups for Nov. 8 and Dec. 13. See Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Providence for details. --mikeu talk 14:08, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'll try to make one of the next Boston meetups, though the time and day make it a little difficult for me to get up there. About how long do they usually go? I'm also trying to coordinate the Providence meetup with Brown Free Culture. --mikeu talk 14:46, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- The Providence meetup is today. The plan is to try to meet between about 4-6pm and we'll be ordering pizza around 5pm. Note, that I will be there during the entire 1-8pm, and anyone is welcome to stop by, but I thought a more specific time might make it easier for people to plan attending. See the talk page for more info and discussion.--mikeu talk 15:11, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: OLPC FA drive
[edit]Yes, I'd be very interested in participating; it's been something I've been meaning to do for a while. (and would be my first FA!) ffm 01:31, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm trying to update the OLPC page with the latest information to make it a really good article and get it to FA status; I know it's unusual to be part of one's own organization editing, but it is possible -- if we work on a draft in userspace and have friends/colleagues helping update the article proper. Are you interested in working on this in the coming week or so? +sj + 20:48, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Cool, it seems that page does need updating. I don't have time for much research, but I'd be happy to review proposed changes and integrate them into the article. In preparation, I've purged Talk:One Laptop per Child of all resolved issues. If you could help resolve the remaining issues with reference to suitable sources, that would be a huge help. There are a number of minor wording issues raised in the GA review. Where these have nothing to do with anything controversial, I'm happy for you to make these minor fixes directly to the article if you just leave a note on the talk page regarding your conflict of interest and asking people to review them. This would help keep a separate draft from getting out of sync with the live article. If you have larger chunks of new or rewritten content, it might be easiest just to post those on the talk page for possible tweaking and inclusion. -- Beland (talk) 17:35, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
OLPC Guatemala
[edit]Hi SJ, I found your name through some OLPC research and I am hoping to have more luck with a real person vs. info@olpc, volunteers@olpc, etc.
I'm a non-profit consultant with a specialization in Latin America [3]. I will be traveling to Guatemala Feb-Mar 2009 with Child Aid [4] to work in a rural village about an hour out of Antigua.
I hope to add a technology component to my work and would like to see first-hand OLPC's Guatemala initiative [5] for my own edification.
Might you know who I could contact regarding this? I've reached a dead-end on the olpc sites.
I'd be happy to let you know what I find out if/when I get a chance to see how the Guatemalan government is faring with this project.
Thanks in advance, Meredith Vinger-Roach --71.34.159.8 (talk) 21:28, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Followup sent [via volunteers@] -- the general answer is that olpc:OLPC Mexico is the most active central american group, and that we don't have much going on in the region. +sj+
