Information icon Hello, I'm Jeff G.. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, User:Skuma81/sandbox, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.   — Jeff G. ツ 10:30, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeff,
I provided citation/references for the posted biography about Prof. A.C. Kuma. Are you referring to the biography? Has the biography been approved? Skuma81 (talk) 01:38, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Alexander Cuthbert Kuma moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Prof. A.C. Kuma, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. – NJD-DE (talk) 20:04, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

The image is currently being used with the A.C. Kuma article. Skuma81 (talk) 18:11, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Prof. A.C. Kuma requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/A.C. Kuma. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Any subject can be promoted, even the bio of someone you think important. The language in the now deleted draft is overly promotional. Leaving the unblock request for others to evaluate. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:24, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Adding permanent link to ANI discussion as of time of Bbb23'a noting the block. @Skuma81:, you claimed the subject is not a relative, but the similar names are obvious. It's possible you have a conflict of interest in regard to this subject that is clouding your editorial judgement. I cannot see you being unblocked to edit about this subject. Is there any other way you'd like to help build the world's largest online encyclopedia? -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:33, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The person has passed away, and there is no sense in promoting a deceased person. I don't think this biography is promotional in anyway. It is a history and chronology of events that transpired when he was alive. Skuma81 (talk) 18:06, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nevertheless, the tone is promotional, and you can certainly promote someone's memory. Again, I think you are too close to edit about this subject objectively. Given the amount of disruption you have caused, I doubt you would be unblocked to write about them. Maybe if you spend time and effort learning to edit constructively, the idea could be revisited, but I think now is not the time. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:05, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Skuma81, can you name any sources that have several pages about A.C. Kuma? Magazine articles, newspaper articles on the occasion of his death (the article does not say when he died, a big omission), or a book that gives a summary of his biography over two or more pages? The article names three books, but without page ranges. Do any of them spend at least a couple of pages on Kuma, and if so, what are the page numbers? Just the name of a book is not enough for a reader to check the information and possibly read more; Wikipedia requires this for all our information (verifiability, one of our rules). We also link to other articles to explain things; when you recreated the article, you removed these links that other editors had added, and you have referred to several people using only their surnames, which makes it very difficult to find the article that should be linked (or should become a red link to suggest to other editors that an article on the topic would be a useful addition to the encyclopaedia). There are two overlapping issues. One is that Wikipedia editors use the extent of coverage in published sources to establish the notability of a subject. The other is that because Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not an original work like a book published by a historian, we try to base everything in an article—especially a biography—on cited sources. You did not provide any information about where each detail came from, so the reader does not know it is not just an elaborated legend, and other editors cannot help you out by, for example, adding the first names and possible article links for "Mr. Narayan from Trinidad", "Mr. Ofori–Attah" and "Mr. Puplampu", or identifying and linking "the E.P. Church". This was your first effort at writing a Wikipedia article. No one is expected to excel at encyclopaedia writing on the first attempt. We collaborate. And no one can anticipate every question a reader will have, or everything that readers from a different country may not know and need to have explained. But you haven't given enough information for other editors to help you by improving the article, or for readers to read further either on and off Wikipedia. Waving your hand at three books and at publications by Kuma himself doesn't do either of these. Does this explanation help you understand why your work and your responses have been problematic? Yngvadottir (talk) 21:14, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I provided more than four refences/sources that have several pages about A.C. Kuma. Please research all the sources/references provided.
Law and Social Change in Ghana by William Burnett Harvey - 2015. Skuma81 (talk) 22:49, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid that is not a helpful response. The onus is on you as creator of the article to provide references supporting the content. I have now looked at all three books via Google Books, as did at least one participant in the Articles for Deletion discussion. Both Adamafio and Harvey merely mention him, Harvey only on one page in the appendix so far as I can see. Vieta's The Flagbearers of Ghana also lists only 2 mentions of him in its index; of these, one may be a better reference to the "Think Tank" than Adamafio—I can't see enough of the page in question in either book to be sure that's what is referred to—and may have the needed biography of him on p. 74, but I am unable to see it, so I have no idea how many of the specifics in the article it references. By the nature of the book, that's the most promising source, but even if it references all the details of his education and career, it presumably predateshis death like the other 2 books, and a second biographical article or extended passage in a book would be required as a bare minimum to demonstrate notability, so I ask again, was there any coverage of his death, any newspaper obituaries? I see you also made reference to The Crisis; that turns out to be this, which is just a photo caption. You are not supplying references to support the article, and I'm at a dead end trying to milk references out of the things you vaguely refer to in order to try to save your article. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Prof. A.C. Kuma at his home library.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Prof. A.C. Kuma at his home library.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

is closed. Please address the concerns raised at ANI. It is doubtful you will be unblocked to edit about A.C. Kuma. You would need to create a new draft article via WP:AFC. You may need to describe what other constructive edits you would make. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:49, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have already addressed the concerns raised. I was initially blocked due to not citing all my sources, in addition to editing an article that appeared to be promoting or advertising an individual. Going forward, I will make sure my article is well cited and encyclopedic in content and form. Skuma81 (talk) 16:08, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
