radio show about Wikipedia[edit]

Hi Spyros-

My name is Robin Amer and I’m a producer for an American public radio show called Open Source, which you can check out at www.radioopensource.org.

I’m writing you because this week we’re doing a show on Wikipedia including an interview with Jim Wales. We’re also looking for some particularly passionate and interesting Wikipedia users to talk to, especially users outside the US or users who post in more than one language. I would love to talk to you about your involvement with the site. If you are interested, please give me a call at 617-497-8096, or email me at robinamer@riseup.net and send me your phone number.

Thanks so much.

Best, Robin Amer www.radioopensource.org

Category[edit]

Hi! Usually, there has to be public discussion of a new category before it's created. Plus, there were some formatting problems with the way you had it outlined. I've never done it before, so you might want to check in at the help desk for the answer. I'm all for the new category, by the way. Good luck! - Lucky 6.9 01:34, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, again. The proper name should be [[Category:Bulgarian patriots]]. I tried to move the entry, but this is a specialized move. You may have to manually recreate it under the new title. - Lucky 6.9 01:43, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

One more "hi."  :) I've moved the content to List of Bulgarian patriots for now until we can get the category mess straightened out. - Lucky 6.9 01:49, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

ok thanks

Redirects[edit]

On 11-Feb, you created a "soft" redirect from Nikos Belogiannis to Nikos Beloyannis. You should do a real redirect in cases like this. The instructions for how are at Wikipedia:Redirect. I've fixed this one, but if you need help in the future, let me know. Thanks! -- JLaTondre 15:13, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Flvrakhs.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Flvrakhs.png. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you. -- Carnildo 13:07, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Jeans Revolution[edit]

Hey Spyros,

I noticed this edit on the article of the Jeans revolution. I checked the sources mentioned, and the numbers as they were before were correct. Also, the refereal of western sources as fascist sponsors of the revolution is an opinionated addition. As such, I reversed your edits.

Cheers, The Minister of War (Peace) 11:07, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Please stop adding blatant opinion to wikipedia articles. See our policy on WP:NPOV. Deliberately inserting non-neutral material may be considered vandalism. Thanks. --Doc ask? 11:28, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Stop hand.svg

This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Doc ask? 11:43, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Sources[edit]

Well if you have unbiased sources: cite them!. Instead, you simply changed all the numbers by removing the last zero (certainly doesnt look like its well sourced), and added a reference to the fascist USA. If you want me to take your additions seriously, then you should take them seriously to begin with. Greets, The Minister of War (Peace) 07:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Stadion-Bg-armia.jpg[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Stadion-Bg-armia.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 06:14, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:AaLogo2.gif)[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:AaLogo2.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 03:34, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Shakita puppies at 1.5 months.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Shakita puppies at 1.5 months.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:12, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Images[edit]

If it's image licensing you need help with, you may want to tag your own creations with {{PD-self}} or {{GFDL-self}}, if one of those is in line with the rights you wish to grant. (It's preferred to avoid images that are "fair use", so ideally you'd grant at least the latter.)

BTW, can you fix your signature so that it links to your user page (or user talk page)? If you're signing by hand, try using four tildes (~~~~); if you're already doing that, edit your signature in "my preferences", and see how to fix your signature. Alai 16:33, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Yassou Spyros[edit]

I think it should definitely be a disambiguation page. Plovdiv was certainly a more important Roman city (and capital of Thrace) than some obscure fort in Scotland. I've been bold and edited the article accordingly. TodorBozhinov 17:20, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Comber[edit]

Regarding the article Comber. Do not delete the contents of the page and replace them on a different article. The article Comber of the town was there first, if you want a link to another article then put a disambiguation link at the top of the Comber article. DOing what you did destroys the historys of the page. Ben W Bell talk 18:50, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Zdrasti Spyros[edit]

Well, it's pretty much the same as with Tarnovo and Veliko Tarnovo: the Velik(a/o/i) part means "Great" (as you certainly know) and it was added later to distinguish the city as a glorious medieval fortress and capital. I see nothing wrong with sharing the name between the medieval capital and the small modern city, although I agree it could be done with the modern city at Veliki Preslav and the medieval capital at Preslav. The Bulgarian wiki also has the under the same heading, for example. TodorBozhinov 18:07, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

They're not on two different locations, the ruins of the medieval Preslav are in the vicinity of modern Preslav, but as you know cities sometimes move a bit for various reasons :) Of course, the modern Preslav was just a village near the ruins which was given that name as late as 1878, after the ruins were discovered. But nevertheless — a similar thing happened to Athens as far as I know — an ancient capital reduced to a mere village and then restored to its former glory. I agree the Preslav article should be expanded considerably, though — it deserves it. By the way, how is it that you know Bulgarian? :) TodorBozhinov 18:28, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Akita Shepherd[edit]

An editor has nominated Akita Shepherd, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Portmanteau dog names and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Jayden54Bot 21:57, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Up for some translation?[edit]

You had volunteered at one point to help with translations...the article Topoliana is currently listed at WP:PNT and will be deleted if it isn't translated soon. AKRadecki 00:31, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

No problem. Thanks for taking a look at it and letting me know about its lack of notability. Would you mind if I call on you in the future to review such articles? Thanks! AKRadecki 16:09, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Shakita_puppies_at_1.5_months.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Shakita_puppies_at_1.5_months.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Image copyright problem with Image:Intelekta.gif[edit]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Intelekta.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Shell babelfish 22:49, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Typo redirect All Workers Struggling Front[edit]

Information icon.svg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on All Workers Struggling Front, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because All Workers Struggling Front is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting All Workers Struggling Front, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 12:00, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

RfD nomination of "Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)"[edit]

Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. Floaterfluss (talk) (contribs) 04:25, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Farmacophobia[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

A tag has been placed on Farmacophobia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Greenguy1090 (talk) 23:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Victor Tsytskov[edit]

Nuvola apps important yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Victor Tsytskov, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Victor Tsytskov. Russ (talk) 11:45, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Victor Chuchkov[edit]

Nuvola apps important yellow.svg

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Victor Chuchkov, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Notability of Kierston Wareing[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Kierston Wareing requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Carl.bunderson (talk) 00:51, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject TRANSWIKI[edit]

You are invited to join WikiProject TRANSWIKI and join the sub language project of your choice. Talk:Motorcycle[edit]

Hi. Would you please edit your comment at Talk:Motorcycle to remove the copy of the article you pasted in? All that does is mess up the formatting of the talk page, and it is completely unnecessaary. The last version of the page Motorcycle mechanic is right here and it isn't going anywhere. Anyone can see it by clicking on any version they want in the article history. Thanks. --Dbratland (talk) 22:01, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Information.svg Hello Spyros Pantenas! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2,708 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Martina Gedeck - Find sources: "Martina Gedeck" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · HighBeam · JSTOR · free images · free news sources · The Wikipedia Library · NYT · WP reference
  2. Nico Fidenco - Find sources: "Nico Fidenco" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · HighBeam · JSTOR · free images · free news sources · The Wikipedia Library · NYT · WP reference

Proposed deletion of Paola Mendoza[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Paola Mendoza has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. - Happysailor (Talk) 21:07, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Help with translation from Greek to English[edit]

Hello. i noticed your name in Wikipedia:Translators available#Greek-to-English. ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
