All-rounders[edit]

Personaly I don't see much difference between Warne, Gillespie, Kumble and Agarkar in batting ability. Gillespie has a marginally higher average than the others but that is solely down to a single knock accounting for nigh on 20 pct of his test runs. And that knock was of course not against the best attack in the world. Reiffel is slightly different - he is currently in the list of historic all-rounders so of course can't really be used as a bowler who can bat that misses the mark of all-rounder like the others. To my mind he is not a true all-rounder though, shouldn't be on the list and would be a good example of a near but not quite. Historically I think Wasim and Marshall are the two best examples - Wasim had the talent to be a top 6 batsman without doubt but perhaps not the application. On the other hand Marshall (like Warne perhaps) wasn't blessed with the innate ability as a batsman but worked hard at it and got better. For me Warne is the current best example of a near miss not because he is the nearest miss but simply because being the worlds leading wicket taker and with his off field antics he gets more news coverage than the others and therefore is likely to be more familiar to the non-cricket fan. --LiamE 20:31, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re Temple Poole[edit]

Ta for kind comments and anything else you did to have Poole nominated for DYK. Have noticed yr username in my short time contributing to WP but see now recognise yr experience and standing in community. Hope I can seek advice as I try to add to aust history, culture and other interests. Your interest has encouraged me to expand on areas I found lacking in WP, esp. WA. I infer from a quick scan of your user page you are Sth Aust. and would also, I assume, see it left out of general Aust articles. Kind regards Fred.e 15:19, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly see the "Decline of Buddhism in India" article. There is another editor who reverts to his version full of repititions and even styling errors. Agathoclea's RfA[edit]

I might consider going to weak support, but for now I'm sticking with oppose. I know that I sometimes support people with low project activity, but I only do so when I see diversified edits to AfD's, AIV, RfA's, policies, etc. My main concern with Agathoclea is the lack of AfD participation, and for this I really can't support. Sorry :(. Nishkid64 20:55, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's got a DYK...which means he might update it! Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:03, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Question (again...)[edit]

Hey, I got another question. I'm really mixed up with this whole next update thing. Does this mean I could have added my self-nom to the next update and it would have been on DYK? I saw some editors like Happycamper adding from Template talk:Did you know to to next update page, so I wasn't really sure.

And coincidentally, my first DYK nomination doesn't get picked lol. It's the only one that has not been written about by other people. =( Nishkid64 00:53, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it's a gentlemen's agreement that you don't move your own noms to the template or to the staging area. The problem was that nobody at all was around at the 8-23 time zone yesterday and the template wasn't updated. One can always help the backlog by piling everyone else's stuff onto the main page, and when it is the other's shift yours will still be there and it will be picked. we can always bend the rules a bit and put a 6th day old pick on there, escpecially as it was due to admin laziness, rather than article incompetence. As Agathoclea has been involved in DYK, he might be of use....Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:03, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I figured it was some sort of common courtesy to not put your own DYK at the next update. Anyway, it's up there now, so I'm happy. =) And yes by AfD, I mean XfD. Nishkid64 02:43, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: HslVU[edit]

Expanded a bit as you suggested. There's been a fair amount of research on these proteins, but a lot of it is quite redundant, so there's only so much to put in the article without boring everyone not into protein biochemistry :) Opabinia regalis 02:47, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DYK update[edit]

Hi Binguyen,

You are one of the most active admins on DYK, so I'm dropping you this line.

Today, I tried my hand at the DYK update for the first time. (I have a much greater appreciation now for all the work you do in keeping this feature moving on a regular basis). If I made any mistakes, please let me know. I tried my best to follow all of the directions.

Thanks, — ERcheck (talk) 01:20, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that everything's in order, but I think that User:Tony1/How_to_satisfy_Criterion_1a:_redundancy_exercises, a skills training guide for FAC is pretty helpful, as it helps you to be on the lookout for redundant words and such. Certainly after getting Ian Thorpe through FAC, I noticed that I managed to economise the length of noms more effectively, so that we don't unnecessarily miss stuff because of the backlog. Aside from that, when the RHS of the main page is too short and we don't have space for DYK, I go to BBC and try and find an excuse to put more news items to make the RHS longer. It helps to have more people inspecting the noms for sure. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:41, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting...it takes even more balancing than I'd considered. Since there is currently a mismatch on the Main page, are you looking for a balancing article? Perhaps:

ERcheck (talk) 02:07, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, at the moment, we are doing OK with respect to the backlog, so we would simply stick to the normal convention of 6 per update....but I think we would do OK, because the current blurbs are rather wordy.... Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:06, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RSD & SCG[edit]

When you have time, can you please review the contributions of Ghosjjoy. I initially thought that there were good edits (for eg, he removed some useless stats from RSD page) but his later edits are very pro-SCG and anti-RSD. Not sure whether a blanket revert would do as the original versions aren't too good either ! Tintin (talk) 14:11, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I reverted the Ganguly edits, as they attack Chappell and insert hagiographic hyperbole, and also claim that Ganguly nurtured all the young players, eg, Bhajji, Yuvraj, Zaheer, etc and credit him with their success etc....Dravid was pretty useless, but now I'm sitting on the edge of my seat, I may as go and ref my draft of RSD and paste it in there. Lincoln College[edit]

Hi, I made several revisions to the Lincoln College page which were deleted by User Geni and the page was reverted to its present form. In this state is it not encyclopaedic, but rather non-sensical and derogatory.

Please could you investigate- i have tried to engage in discussion with Geni about this but he seems certain that what I did is a gross misdemeanour.

I was altering the page on behalf of the students and staff of Lincoln, of which I am a representative. Some material was taken from the Colleg web page and this was reference. The othe material was entirely my own creation.

The user geni said that my description of the food served on International Night at the college was in violation of copyright as it was described as "exotic".Exotic means from a foreign country- which is typical of what the food served on the night was.

It seems that this is a gross misjustice and the power afforded to this individual has gotten to their heads. They have reverted the article to a non-sensical and worthless piece that is in no way encylocpaedic which they have said on the discussion page where I see you have commented.

Could you please investigate on behalf of the students and staff of Lincoln College? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lincoln College (talkcontribs)

Re:Murali[edit]

Hi Blnguyen, yes looks like some false positives have crept in. I kept out most ambiguous categories involving tamil, punjabi and bengali people as some of them are likely to spill over to other countries. But during mass tagging, some errors do creep in. Please feel free to remove such errors else please let me know if you see a large cat tagged like this. I will remove the errors myself. — Lost(talk) 06:33, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Baka - The Swami in the ITA Indians seems to be an Italian who converted to Hinduism. If so he wouldn't be an Italian Indian, as he isn't an Indian citizen. If he is of Indian ethnicity, that would make him an Indian Italian. If he is an ethnic Italian who converted, then he wouldn't be an Indian as a noun or an adjective....Blnguyen (bananabucket) 04:04, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nearly Headless Nick: waiting for answers[edit]

I don't think the conversation between you and Nick is going to go anywhere soon and it will only irritate all involved. I think we can make progress if we focus on what is right, not on who is right, because at the end of the day, we are trying to get the best possible content available. Regards, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:52, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Nick is actively engaged in a course of conduct--acting in repeated, verifiable, bad faith, against consensus, and bullying "under color of authority"--I am one of the only people who is effective is calling him on his bullying, and will continue to do so, for the benefit of Wikipedia, as long as he disrespects community consensus, bullies, lies, etc. Meanwhile, it is past time for Barrington Hall to be unprotected, as it shouldn't have been protected in the first place. Are you personally involved in any way/know any of the "silent edit warriors"

Cindery 06:59, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

...interesting that you did not answer that question--it appears you voted for Nick in his RFA, so you certainly know him, at least:-) (How much time would you say you spend chatting with him on the IRC channel?) Also, I can't seem to find an official "request for page protection" for Barrington Hallanywhere--am I missing it? Is there an alternate explanation for how it is that you noticed and decided there was some problem necessitating page protection between 9:22 on Dec. 20--when Rory made the last edit--and 9:24--two minutes later-- when you protected it? Not much at all - our edit times don't intersect much. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:50, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ITN Candidate[edit]

I don't know if you'll see this in time, but could you take a look at this: [1]. I know you have a good deal of experience with cricket-related articles, and I'd appreciate it if you could evaluate Hamedog's ITN candidate. Nishkid64 01:33, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've done so and hopefully I didn't rankle anybody too much. Cricket although a great pleasure, I do not really regard very highly in terms of skill merit. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:56, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dave Kelly (artist) Deletion[edit]

I've been away from Wikipedia for some time, so I was horrified and angered that the Dave Kelly artile was deleted. I understand there was sdome discussion about this and I'm sorry I didn't get in on it. Other web artsits have pages on Wikipedia so I'm baffled as to why Dave got "picked on". I understand vaguely that there weren't enough references or citations, but he has a significant web presence and there are several articles in Wikipedia where he is the primary or major contributor. I may want to restart the article but I don't want it to suddenly disappear again. Can you give me some pointers or a quick run-down on why the previous article was deleted so I can avoid those pit-falls again? Thanks --KSnortum 00:24, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello KSnortum - it was deleted via the result of a debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dave Kelly (artist). Please feel free to ask more questions about the rationales in question and how they were stacked up against one another. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:56, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
