He had been with 15 wives and 367 children.. most of the women did not like to travel. so the relationships did not last long. he bounty hunted in a weird and most surprising way to catch his wanted by bondsman.he was born in 1932 Aug,21 in san Antonio texas grow up in West Virginia, dated famous country star. Problem with formatting existing article
[edit]I just spent over an hour trying to edit Dolphin Cove (TV series).
Someone else had listed the names and dates of the episodes, but I'd written summaries of the episodes – shortened and rewritten versions of what had been listed in 8 issues of TV Guide. After each episode title I typed in my summary, and added references to a TV Guide issue.
When I checked the preview of my edits each of my summaries were in what looked like gray boxes, and were in a different font then the rest of the article. It appeared that my references would be listed separately from the other references.
I couldn't leave the article looking like a mess, so I just copied and pasted my work onto a computer file, and didn't save my edits to the article. I've done hundreds of edits but I couldn't figure out any special formatting that caused the problem. This series only had 8 episodes so I don't want to try and figure out the special formatting done to list episodes in long-running TV shows.
Should I delete everything now in the Episode section, and start afresh with titles and summaries, or just give up on my edit project? Karenthewriter (talk) 04:33, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Karenthewriter. I am guessing that you unintentionally invoked the courier typestyle by indenting one space.

- @Karenthewriter: One thing you could try is copying the portion of your article to your sandbox User:Karenthewriter/sandbox and testing your edits there. That allows you try multiple things and save without impacting the article. Once it looks the way you want, you can paste it into the article. GoingBatty (talk) 22:54, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

If your friends have articles written about them here, it is because a volunteer editor thought they were notable and worth writing about, and other editors agreed, then reviewed the article, and finally allowed it to be on Wikipedia. USE OF WIKIPEDIA IMAGES REGARDING TEACHING

I upload study videos for students worldwide for which i need images and some written matter also which i will present in a different presentable manner for teaching purpose. - See Commons:Project:Reusing content outside Wikimedia - nearly all images can be reused freely. Some require attribution to be made - I would recommend doing this even if not legally required.
- The only exception is some images, which are not free images, and used under fair use. Most commonly this is company logos, film posters, etc. - anything we are unlikely to have the license to. You may be able to use these under your country fair use law. ~~ Alex Noble/1-2/TRB 09:42, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- Very many of the images at Wikimedia Commons can only be used if you credit their authors. (There are other constraints too.)
- Wikimedia Commons does not host images that English-language Wikipedia claims are "fair use" for this or that specific purpose. (Such images are hosted by English-language Wikipedia itself.) The great majority of nations don't have any loophole for "fair use" or anything like it. It's safer to start by assuming that nations don't recognize "fair use", and then looking for proof that they do. -- Hoary (talk) 10:05, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- The big thing to be careful about: most of the images on commons are licensed CC-BY-SA, and the Wikipedia text is also licensed this way. The "SA" means "share-alike". If you incorporate such material into your study videos, then your videos become "derivative works" of all of this material plus your own creative content. The resulting videos must then be licensed by you under the CC-BY-SA license, which means that anyone can make copies of your work for any purpose as long as they provide it under the same license. If you do not choose to let others copy and use your videos under this license, then you cannot incorporate Wikipedia text and Wiki Commons images. If you do wish to use a more restrictive license, then you may still link to the images and text, but you may not incorporate that material. -Arch dude (talk) 15:44, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Clicked Publish Changes but the page was stuck for 40 minutes
[edit]I made a lot of edits in my sandbox and didn't save the changes anywhere else before clicking Publish Changes. Then the page got stuck loading for more than 40 minutes and I'm afraid my edits will be lost. - Sorry I didn't notice the dates. Well, if the text you wrote is on your screen in front of you, then you can copy it and paste it into a TXT file (or at a pinch even into an ODF, DOCX or pages file) on your hard drive, and later copy from there and paste into Wikipedia. If it isn't on your screen in front of you, then you can get your browser to go back to what it was showing previously, and the text may be visible; if it is, then you do what I described previously. If you can't see it, then I suppose that it has gone; if there is some workaround then I suppose that this would be depend on the particular browser. -- Hoary (talk) 22:25, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

- Gomutiutu30 I assume that you are asking about how to create new articles. Creating a new article is the absolute hardest thing you can do on Wikipedia. It takes much time and practice. New users who dive right in to creating articles without understanding much about Wikipedia often end up disappointed and with hurt feelings as work they spent hours on is mercilessly edited and deleted by others. New users that first spend time editing existing articles greatly increase their chances of success, as it allows them to get a feel for how Wikipedia operates and what is expected of article content. If you want the best chance of your work being accepted as a new article, you should first edit existing articles in areas that interest you. You should also use the new user tutorial to learn more about Wikipedia.
- If you still want to attempt to create an article, you should first read Your First Article, and then use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft. This is a good idea even if you edit other articles first, as it is better to get feedback on a draft than an actual article. 331dot (talk) 13:50, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
Help with Company Pages
[edit]Hello, We have two company pages and stopped updating them per the COI rules. There are still messages that read as follows: This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page. (Learn how and when to remove these template messages) A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. (February 2020) This article contains content that is written like an advertisement. (February 2020)
Is there a way to remove them both? We have not updated these pages since February and will no longer update them per the Wikipedia guidelines.

- Nothing has been done to address the issues raised about the two articles, so they should not be removed until that happens. If you have suggestions that you think could help to do that, then propose them on the relevant talk pages, so that other editors can decide on their usefulness. Invisible text
[edit]In attempting to edit the article Australian Greens, I came to a blank wall. There is a History section, with an Edit tab. Below that, Formation, also with an Edit tab. But in the introductory section, the only Edit I could find is at the very top. And that leads to a page with all kinds of bracketed items. I don't want to try editing any of that. The text of the introductory section is simply not visible. I posted a query yesterday, which went to the wrong place, and is being deleted. The correction I wanted to make has been made for me, so that's good. But how the devil was it done? I'm utterly mystified about how I can get to that portion of the article.

- Hi Larry Dunn of Bakersfield - if you are not happy editing the whole page, which would include the lead section, there should be an [Edit] tag in the top line, to the right of the Article title. Clicking this should allow you to edit the section of the article as far down as the Table of contents, i.e. any hatnotes, the infobox and the lead - Arjayay (talk) 17:40, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

- Hello, Larry Dunn of Bakersfield. By default there is no "Edit" link for just the first section - you have to edit the whole page to do that. But if you pick "Preferences" at the top, and then "Gadgets", you can enable "Add an [edit] link for the lead section of a page" (under Appearance), and thereafter edit just the first section of a page. However, you will still often encounter infoboxes and other templates in that first section before the text begins. --ColinFine (talk) 18:21, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

- Indeed, JayMahaLakshmi: You need to stop edit-warring, and start discussing on the talk page. But I note that the version you object to begins by telling me what "Dalvi" is (a clan), whereas your version does not tell me that, ever. I looked at it, and tried to understand the words "Dalvi chief Jaswarantao". Why does the first sentence of an article about "Dalvi" (whatever that means) not tell me about Dalvi, but instead tell me about some chief whose relationship to the unknown-to-me word "Dalvi" I don't understand? --ColinFine (talk) 18:43, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

How to define variables
[edit]Is there a way to define variables in Wikipedia script so that if I change it somewhere in an article it changes everywhere? With the coronavirus pandemic, we have articles that get updated daily, it would be useful to be able to define variables to rewrite multiple entries easily and avoid errors.--ReyHahn (talk) 20:31, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Correcting the error line in "John Millikin"
[edit]Hi I was making some clarifications to the bio of Maj. Gen John Millikin. The Section entitled "the Relief of Bastogne" I entered and additional sentence pointing out that Gen Millikin received the Army's Distinguished Service Medal for his role in that battle. I then entered the reference but must not have done it correctly as it displayed an error message. I tried to follow the instructions (this is the first time I have tried to enter anything) but in the process seem to have removed the first few sentences of the next subsection about the capture of the Bridge at Remagen. Can you restore that The sentences I entered today are correct and properly referenced. Thank you John P. - Not just "someone": Ged UK deleted it. If a person is noteworthy, then somebody who's unrelated will eventually want to create an article about that person, without needing any financial incentive to do so.
