Welcome to Clemson University's HON 2050 Wikipedia Editing Minicourse! In this minicourse, an experienced Wikipedian will train new editors to edit and create Wikipedia pages with an eye toward increasing gender diversity on Wikipedia.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this series, successful students will:

  • understand important aspects of gender bias on Wikipedia;
  • understand important aspects of editing Wikipedia pages, including notability, sources, neutral point of view, images, & editing and creating Wikipedia pages;
  • make at least ten (10) edits of Wikipedia pages; and
  • create at least one (1) new Wikipedia page.

Tentative Schedule

  • Meeting 1. Fri Feb 24. Introduction. Gender bias in wikipedia, notability, sources.
  • Meeting 2. Mon Mar 13. Overview of editing, visual editor settings, hands-on practice editing.
  • Meeting 3. Wed Mar 15. New page creation, sandboxes, hands-on creating and editing sandbox pages.
  • Meeting 4. Wed Mar 29. Presentation of final sandbox pages and moving them to the mainspace as appropriate.
