• Location: He Matapihi Molesworth Library at National Library, corner Molesworth and Aitken Streets, Wellington
  Come to the main entrance of the National Library on Molesworth Street.
• Bring a laptop if you have one. There are publicly available computers if you don't have a laptop.

Venue

The group meet at the He Matapihi Molesworth Library within the National Library. This is a Wellington City Council pop up public library. Mask wearing is encouraged. Drinks are permitted in the library.

2. Round table for participants to say what you’re working on

• Ambrosia10 has had a co-authored blog post published about the use of Wikidata data and identifiers in the Biodiversity Heritage Library. This blog will be republished in the Wikimedia Diff publication to update the wider Wiki community about the work BHL has been doing reusing and roundtripping data and identifiers sourced from Wikidata. I'm very proud to say that a lot of this is as a result of the work I've put into the BHL creator id Mix'n'match dataset. If you'd like to contribute log into mix'n'match and see this catalogue. I've also added information about the blog to the in draft February GLAMwiki newsletter. I've been attending the SLA (Smithsonian Libraries & Archives)|BHL and Wikimedia Foundation meetings collaborating and assisting in helping BHL with their aims. (This is a different group to the BHL cataloguing group of which I am now an invited member). Other than this, over the last month I've been working on my Women Genera project continuing to clean up the data. Now that my funding application has been accepted to SPHNC I'm hoping my two proposed presentation abstracts will also be accepted. One of these presentations will be on the tools and methods (which include Wikidata) we've used in this collaboration. I'm presenting to a less technical audience so hope to get feedback from this group before I present. I've also been doing Hidden Figures project work working on finalising documentation to present to the BIOME community at the end of this month. Other than that I've been doing general wiki "gardening", bits and pieces of BugOfTheYear editing etc. I've also found a link to the Linnean Society magazine article I wrote last year if others are interested.
• Marshelec (in absentia) has had limited time for Wikipedia in the past month because of multiple other commitments (including Wellington Track & Field Champs this weekend). However, he has suppported work by Wainuiomartian on articles Wellington Central Library and National War Memorial (New Zealand). Expanded New Zealand bush giant dragonfly as part of the The 2023 Bug of the Year Edit-a-thon. Also did some work on Matiu / Somes Island. Other work has included creating a new page (over a redirect) for Puysegur Point Lighthouse (this article is now well advanced, and I am considering working towards a GA submission). Also significantly expanded Karamea Aerodrome - a follow-on from the West Coast WPAL project, and some further expansion of Farewell Spit Lighthouse.
• Wainuiomartian working on Wellington Central Library page and the Wellington Libraries services page as well as a few Wellington building articles.
• Stitchbird2 (talk) has been on a botanical expedition to the Auckland Islands so hasn't been able to do Wikipedia work. Added new collectors into the Te Papa database and then also Wikidata.
• Noracrentiss (talk) had been drafting articles but finding other people have published same just prior! This has happened twice.
• Avocadobabygirl (talk) has been building up Te Papa's workplan - main goals in the next few (several) months include hooking up parties records with Wikidata items, internal 1Lib1Ref event, and another project along the lines of last year's Myosotis project.
• Quilt Phase (talk) has been uploading photographs to Wikimedia Commons and moving New Zealand pages to dual names Te Reo / English.
• Einebillion (talk) being doing mostly admin work for the committee and group.

3 Progress on Action Points and future events

• New Zealand Wikidata Thesis Project aims to get New Zealand dissertations into Wikidata. Project Page, Project Dashboard. There is a google spreadsheet of theses authors with Wikipedia pages who need their theses adding to their page if folk want to work on this during #1Lib1Ref. Project Contacts: DrThneed, Giantflightlessbirds and Ambrosia10

DrThneed presented on the project to the East South East Asia Pacific Hub online meeting last week.

• 2023 March WikiCon Wellington Registration is open. Please sign up if you're looking to attend so catering numbers can be confirmed.
• Visit to Parliamentary Librarians Any update from Pakoire?
• Group asked questions about what's happening with Wikimedia projects and Te Papa staff. There are fortnightly lunchtime sessions happening at Te Papa for staff and two interns have completed their projects that include adding to wikidata as part of their projects.

6. Wiki News - add any news from the wider Wiki movement the group may be unaware of

• Society for the Protection of Natural History Collections 2023 Conference - Ambrosia10 has received funding via a rapid funding grant from the Wikimedia Foundation to attend this conference in person. See information on her rapid grant here. The conference is to be held in San Francisco from 28th of May until the 2nd of June 2023. She was sponsored by the Society for the Protection of Natural History Collections to attend the 2022 conference virtually and, in her report back last year at the Aotearoa New Zealand online Wiki meeting, noted she was planning on attempting to attend the 2023 conference in person. She has submitted an abstract entitled Reuse in the Wiki world empowers engagement with Natural History Collections into the Broadening Access and Use of Natural History Collections Through Innovative Approaches and Engagement symposium of the 2023 conference. She has also submit an abstract on her and her collaborators work with the Women Genera project to discuss how this collaboration took place. This abstract is entitled "Names, dames and campaigns: a botanical case study in digitally narrowing the gaps" and will hopefully be presented in the ""Narrowing the gaps: The role of digital infrastructure in shortening the distance between physical collections and their derivative research products” symposium. She has emailed the WANZ committee asking whether it would be permitted to apply for funding to them but was advised that the money budgeted by the committee for funding conference attendance would not cover her costs. The committee advised she apply for a Wikimedia Foundation rapid grant which she has done so and has been awarded the funds!

• Group discussed notibility of an author of publications. One option is that if someone isn't quite notable for Wikipedia then record them in Wikidata with the references you've found.
