Zaui's User Page Zaui grew up in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and now lives in in Sandy, Utah. He previously lived in Lawrence, Kansas and Lee's Summit, Missouri. He earned a B.A. in Chemistry from Carthage College and has a Master's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Utah. He works in the chemical industry as a quality manager. See also this list. Selected Zaui Photo Contribution This portion of the Great Gallery, found in Horseshoe Canyon, is an example of a Barrier Canyon Style pictograph (painted rock art). The full panel is 200 feet long, 15 feet high and the paintings are life-sized human figures. The largest figure pictured is about 7 feet tall. Horseshoe Canyon, also known as Barrier Canyon, is a detached part of Canyonlands National Park in Utah, west of the Green River, and north of the National Park's Maze unit. Featured Picture of the Day The Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) is an astronomical observatory under construction. Part of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) agency, it is located on top of Cerro Armazones in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. The project was proposed in 2011 with construction beginning in 2017. Completion and first light is anticipated to take place in 2028. The ELT's design consists of a reflecting telescope with a 39.3-metre-diameter (130-foot) segmented primary mirror and a 4.2 m (14 ft) diameter secondary mirror. When completed, it will be the world's largest optical telescope. This picture shows a schematic view of the ELT, released by the ESO in 2012.
