Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, Luke.j.ruby, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! LeadSongDog come howl! 16:54, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks LeadSongDog for your helpful feedback! I completely understand the issue over a possible conflict of interest, seeing as I am interested in creating and editing pages for academic journals published by Sage. However as I am committed to remaining neutral in whatever I contribute to such pages while at the same time being employed by the company I would appreciate any comments you may have on this balance in relation to my contributions as I research this for myself at the same time.

Luke.j.ruby (talk) 10:12, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can see that your work to date shows no signs of the promotional. It would be helpful if you can identify more independent sources (other than your own journals) to support the article content, though these tend to be scarce. The Thompson cites to support the impact figures are often the only independent sources cited in journal articles. It is helpful to readers e to link to the websites of associated learned societies, so template:infobox journal has parameters for that purpose. Often the history section of an article about a journal will cite published bios or obits of former editors, particularly founding editors. You might want to take a look at Category:B-Class Academic Journal articles for other inspiration. Very few do better than B-Class, often for the same reason: lack of reliable sourcing. If you need an independent eye, don't hesitate to ask. I'm sure you'll find there are many wikipedians more than willing to give an opinion. Cheers.LeadSongDog come howl! 15:30, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for this. As you say identifying independent sources outside of the ISI can be difficult I have found, but keeping in mind references to Society web pages is a good idea and I will keep this in mind.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Progress_in_Human_Geography.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Progress_in_Human_Geography.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 10:58, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Scope" sections

[edit]

Hi, most of the "scope" sections that you are adding to academic journal articles just repeat (sometimes with slightly different wording) what is in the lead. Have a look at WP:JWG to see how you can expand journal articles. --Crusio (talk) 11:44, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Crusio. Thank you for your feedback. I am currently looking into this at the moment and I am revising my previous entries. In the case of Cooperation and Conflict, the scope may have seemed repetitive as I uploaded this before editing the lead which is when I received your message. Thank you for the link to the WP:JWG, I shall endeavour to adhere to these guidelines in my future edits and in the Scope sections that I include in them. Article categories

[edit]

Why did you remove several categories at Journal of Aging and Health? I've seen this with other edits, too, and it's a pain to have to restore them (because I don't see any valid reason for removing them)... --Crusio (talk) 16:49, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Luke, with each cover that you have uploaded, you make the same mistakes (duplicating some tags and headers). Could you have a look at my corrections? If you upload new ones correctly, that would save both of us time. Thanks. --Crusio (talk) 09:34, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it looks as if that image was wrongly titled. It should have been File:European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, for use at European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. Could you please re-upload under the correct title? Thank you, LeadSongDog come howl! 18:15, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for this situation. I've been informed that European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention & Rehabilitation will undergo a title and cover change in 2012, after which it will be known as European Journal of Preventive Cardiology and the orphaned image that I initially uploaded will be the correct one. I uploaded that image without knowing this at the time and then replaced it with the one that currently features on that page. Please could you advise me how to proceed - should I leave the orphaned image to be deleted and then re-upload in 2012 when it is applicable? Luke.j.ruby (talk) 10:48, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's probably the simplest approach and avoids any taint of being promotional. LeadSongDog come howl! 22:04, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:AJHPM 300ppiCMYK 100%.tif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi, this message is to let you know about disambiguation links you've recently created. A link to a disambiguation page is almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. License tagging for {{{1}}}

[edit]

Thanks for uploading [[:{{{1}}}]]. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on [[:{{{1}}}|this link]], then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:05, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

The article The Neurohospitalist has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

New journal, not (yet?) included in any major selective databases, no independent sources. Does not meet WP:NJournals or WP:GNG.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi, you've linked to this article in several "abstracting and indexing" sections. Please click the link, it's not a database at all... Perhaps you can correct the articles where you have already used it. Now that we're at it, it's Scopus, not SCOPUS. Also, I have removed almost every single "scope" section that you have been adding to journal articles. Most of the time, you just seem to copy text from the journal homepages and the text is uninformative and promotional in nature. I'm not sure why you keep adding stuff that I then subsequently remove, I assume you don't watch the pages you create... --Guillaume2303 (talk) 15:51, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the feedback, and your ever-so helpful tone. The NISC databases are significant resources but they now operate as semi-autonomous entities within the larger EBSCOhost system since they were taken over, so it seems that my mistake is that I assumed the link would lead to an entry on them rather than the obscure computing concept that happens to have the same acronym. I will correct this. Luke.j.ruby (talk) 16:17, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello, Luke.j.ruby. It has been over six months since you last edited your Articles for Creation draft article submission, "British Journal of Visual Impairment".

In accordance with our policy that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Randykitty (talk) 19:37, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
