Buses in Kuala Lumpur are run by many transport operators and have many uses.
[edit] Local buses
Local buses (not to be confused with Rapid KL's Local Shuttle) or stage buses are run by the integrated network operator Rapid KL as well as privately owned Metrobus, Triton, Len Seng, Selangor Omnibus and SJ Bus.
Metrobus and Rapid KL are the two main bus companies within the boundaries of Kuala Lumpur. As there is no difference between public transport in Kuala Lumpur and public transport for the whole Klang Valley, most of the other bus companies other than Rapid KL and Metrobus are normally confined to Klang Valley areas that are outside the boundaries of Kuala Lumpur.
The largest operator, Rapid KL, operates 179 bus routes along with the C | Ampang Line, D | Sri Petaling Line and E | Kelana Jaya Line.
Protip: Visitors to KL please Beware Bus fare maybe cheap but it comes with a downside of it[citation needed]
Downside: 1. The buses are always not on time, so be prepare to be there earlier. Depends on how familiar you are with the buses otherwise stay TWO HOURS ahead(since sometimes they just either don't stop or just doesn't show up at all).[citation needed] 2. Depends on buses, some buses are warmer than the other so be prepare to sweat a little bit even if the bus are "air-conditioned"[citation needed] 3. Do NOT PAY FIRST, always ask for a clear direction otherwise you might ended up paying a fare that you could just walk on foot for 5 minutes.[citation needed] 4. The Bus Drivers are sometime just as Clueless as you, so you might want to ask the passengers instead.[citation needed]
[edit] Bus stops
There are several major bus stops in Kuala Lumpur. Many local bus routes, especially those operated by private operators, terminate and begin at the old quarter of Kuala Lumpur, typically along Jalan Cheng Lock.
[edit] Important bus interchange
This is a non-exhaustive list of important bus interchange:
Express and long-distance buses: (to other states in Malaysia including Singapore and Southern Thailand)

[edit] Bus operators
[edit] Rapid KL
Rapid KL is the largest bus operator in the Klang Valley. Currently, there are 179 routes which integrates with Klang Valley's Rail Systems. The bus routes operated by Rapid KL were previously operated by Intrakota Komposit Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Bhd; and Cityliner Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Park May Bhd. In 2005, Rapid KL buses carried around 190,000 passengers daily. Many of the other bus companies listed here except for Metrobus are slowly being phased out and being defunct or unpopular with commuters due to Rapid KL.
[edit] Cityliner
Currently it operated by Klang Banting Bus Transport, a subsidiary of Nadi Bhd. The bus service was introduced a fleet of double-decker bus with new livery to serve the KL-Klang route in 3rd quarter 2006.
[edit] Len Seng
An old Hino manufactured bus owned by Syarikat Bas Len Seng (a bus company in Kuala Lumpur) or also known as Len Seng Omnibus Company.

[edit] Zone system
Zone 1 is the city center. Zone 1 charges are normally applied when a passenger travels within a zone. So even if the passenger is travelling in zones 2,3 and 4, they will still be charged RM 0.90. Zone 2 charges occur when a passenger travels from a zone to the next zone, such as Zone 1-2, or zone 2-3, or zone 3-4 and vice versa. Zone 3 charges apply when travelling two zones across, such as from zone 1-3 or zone 2-4 while zone 4 charges (seldom used) are when one travels from the first zone to the fourth zone, which would be from the city center to the remote areas. For Rapid KL buses however, their ticketing system does not follow the "zone system" as above but on day passes, no matter how long the distance one travels.
[edit] Disabled access
RapidKL buses Most new RapidKL buses are disabled friendly. Scania KU270, MAN and KingLong models are seen serving various UTAMA and BANDAR routes in the city, with SKS BUS/HINO midibuses plying TEMPATAN routes. Apart from that, there are no other disabled-friendly buses available.
