[edit] Career

Alan Campbell was born in Falkirk, Scotland, and grew up there, before moving on to study Computer Science at Edinburgh University. After graduating, he worked for DMA Design, Visual Sciences and Rockstar, developing video games: Body Harvest for the Nintendo 64, Formula One 2000 for the PlayStation, and the Grand Theft Auto series on the PC and PS2. After he finished Vice City, he left to pursue a career in photography and to write.

Campbell's debut novel was Scar Night,[1] the first of the Deepgate Codex trilogy. The second novel of the trilogy is Iron Angel, and the third and final novel of series, God of Clocks, was published in 2009. Alan Campbell has also published a novella called Lye Street which is a prequel to The Deepgate Codex.

[edit] Bibliography

[edit] Deepgate Codex series

  • Scar Night (2006)
  • Iron Angel (2008)
  • God of Clocks (2009)

[edit] Gravedigger Chronicles

  • Sea of Ghosts (2011)

Campbell's work is best described as urban Fantasy and is frequently likened to the work of Mervyn Peake and occasionally Charles Dickens, but the dark subject matter, the Victoriana culture of both the Deepgate Codex and the later Gravedgger Chronicles, and the prevalence of airships has also placed him firmly in the Steam Punk camp.
