During the Sri Lankan Civil War, several Sri Lanka Air Force aircraft were lost to antiaircraft artillery (AAA) and surface-to-air missiles (SAMs). When the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) introduced its air wing in the latter stages of the war, all of its aircraft were lost to antiaircraft artillery (AAA) and fighter interceptors.

Sri Lanka Air Force

  • 13 October 1993: a FMA IA 58 Pucará tail number CA-605 crashed landed at SLAF Palaly after being hit by ground fire over the Kilaly lagoon. Pilot survived.
  • 14 July 1995: a FMA IA 58 Pucará tail number CA-601 was shotdown by a MPADS. Pilot Flight Lieutenant Dilhan Perera was killed, his body was recovered by an air force rescue team.[1]
