Intellectual martyr

Portrait of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha

• Mohammad Shamsuzzoha, first intellectual martyr of Bangladesh, was shot and killed by Pakistan Army in front of the university main gate. Few days prior to the 1969's Mass uprising, students of the University of Rajshahi were protesting against the murder of Sergeant Zahurul haq in custody and the Agartala Conspiracy Case. He was the then reader(proctor) of the university. While urging the deployed army troops to not shoot on the students, he was shot by the troops. Some of his last words were, "Before shooting any of my students, you have shoot me...".

• Abul Hasnat Muhammad Qamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders of Bangladesh. He was a politician, government minister and a leading member of the Awami League and the Provisional Government of Bangladesh.
