@Mlpearc -- you have reported me for making "disrupted editing" on Wiki -- I am ATTEMPTING to add a page for the Electro-Spanish Model B & the Ken Roberts. All of my sources are referenced & noted. Why are you taking liberty to claim I am "disrupting"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guitarhistory (talkcontribs) 16:20, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Guitarhistory: If you would read my edit summaries. Why are you using {{red link|Electro-Spanish Model B}} ? Mlpearc (open channel) 16:28, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Mlpearc. I created Red-Links as I reserved 4 hours out of my day, today, to create the pages for the Model B & Ken Roberts. I created the red-links prior to creating the page content. All of my references are from the United States Patent Trademark Office & Rickenbacker directly. I am not being disruptive here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guitarhistory (talkcontribs) 16:43, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I was editing when you were...

Looks like you were editing as I was making quick refs. So how can an article be BLP for wife and kids but not where they live when all three are in the article? I get the other refs that were removed but little confused on why a source is OK for one part but not another? Chris "WarMachineWildThing" (talk) 22:37, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@WarMachineWildThing: See WP:BLPSOURCES. ( I saw your edit, I didn't scan the whole article, fix it if it's wrong, I did). Mlpearc (open channel) 22:40, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like as you were editing I was making the quick refs and I had at one point doubled his alma mater by mistake and messed up his residence by doubling it. I meant no disrespect and apologize if it came off that way by asking I was just confused after having the other non RS refs removed and having to fix it with the other one. Dear Illuminati. How come Baumgartner's page has an automatic alert that immediately tells you it's been changed, so you can then go there and revert to the previous lies? Please stop

Despite the fact that I have not edited ANYTHING since running afoul of you, you nonetheless are repeatedly editing my own personal talk page and issuing warning after warning. Please stop. Your attention is unwelcome. I have not made a single edit that could be rationally viewed as unconstructive and your attention is bordering on harassment. 47.55.200.129 (talk) 00:24, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tommy Lee edits

"Anyone who plays drums" is not the general audience for an article on Tommy Lee. A 3,000-byte list of detailed instruments Tommy Lee plays absolutely falls under WP:FANCRUFT as it's intricate information that only matters to a small group of people, and I didn't remove it because of my own personal opinion of Lee (I don't think I'd be editing the article if I didn't like him). I cited the policy for a reason. I can scarcely name a popular musician who still has an intact instrument list, as over the years I have seen a multitude of other editors cite similar policies when removing similarly detailed lists. An overview of what he uses is sufficient for most readers. Ss112 11:34, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, the whole list (and section) is unreferenced, so there's that reason for its removal as well. Sorry I didn't provide an edit summary upon reverting you, I accidentally clicked rollback first. I don't know why you didn't remove it upon the IP address adding it to the article anyway. I see you revert IP editors all the time for adding "unsourced or poorly sourced material", and as the whole list lacks any sourcing whatsoever, it should be removed if not for its obvious appeal to only fans and not a general audience (clearly you're a fan, but that shouldn't blind anybody to its lack of referencing and detail nobody besides fans would care about). That kind of detail belongs on sites like http://www.uberproaudio.com/who-plays-what/137-tommy-lees-drum-kit-and-drum-gear, not Wikipedia. Ss112 11:55, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, I've just noticed, Binksternet (talk · contribs) has previously reverted editors for adding an unsourced gear list here and "gear cruft" here. Please do not restore it. Ss112 12:00, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Urban Legend

Hi Mlpearc,

Thank you for explaining how my AGF was not compliant with wikipedia standards for editing information. Regarding my Walter Brennan edit under "Private Life", my challenge was to information cited in the #11 source which is just a generic NYT entertainment page that doesn't mention Brennan and, therefore, makes no attempt to corroborate the editorial portion that is included in Brennan's wikipedia biography. What is wikipedia's policy regarding an editor using material that starts with the word "reportedly" which by definition expresses a belief that the information given is not necessarily true, yet in this case is certainly defamatory to the subject of the biography?

Thank you. Maleagant — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maleagant (talkcontribs) 19:06, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Talk: The Most Interesting Man in the World

Thanks so much for the feedback, Mlpearc. Unfortunately, I'm very inexperienced with Wikipedia and I'm not sure how to go about getting these edits made.

As far as content, I think my edit requests should cover it, but I'm on a list of 147 other edits. What kind of timeline is expected, there?

Also, the photo I attempted to upload was from a shoot we just had with Augustin for the most recent spot, so it belongs to our creative department. How should I go about submitting that the right way?

Sorry for the 21 questions, but you sound like you know what's what! Thanks so much in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by XXMIMOwner (talkcontribs) 17:35, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"The Man Trap" not "The Corbomite Maneuver"

The "source" could be found in the actual wiki page I changed. The First episode released for Star Trek TOS was "The Man Trap" not "The Corbomite Maneuver" as listed. The character of Janice Rand was introduced in the first episode. If you reference the Wiki pages for "The Man Trap" or the original series, you will see this info as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.17.242.65 (talk) 15:22, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Uranus archives

Thank you for your note about this deletion.
I probably wouldn't have been bothered if I had seen it at the time, but on thinking about it I wondered why the archive was empty, seeing as I put about 14Kb of material into it, for the reason I gave then.
It seems that all the archives for this talkpage have been comprehensively changed, and, AFAICT had a lot of stuff simply deleted (without any discussion that I can find) which I thought was contrary to all the talkpage guidelines.
Do you know anything about that? Because I am wondering what to do next about it. Regards, Moonraker12 (talk) 14:46, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I edited the Gloria Estefan page for a school project, and would appreciate if you could keep my edit. I have never edited Wikipedia before this event, and am unaware of the rules. Bogus 'James' Bosworth Content Still Needs Removing

This information needs to go with your request

Right, here are some sources.

1. The Wikipedia article entitled '12th Royal Lancers' states under the heading 'Early Wars', in the penultimate paragraph, as follows: "In 1855, it [ie the regiment] reinforced The Light Cavalry Brigade in the Crimea after the Charge Of The Light Brigade at the Battle Of Balaclava".

2. There is an article in 'Sheldrake's Aldershot And Sandhurst Military Gazette' dated 4 November 1882, accessible online via the British Newspaper Archive site, which gives a full account of John Hacker Bosworth's career in the 12th Lancers, and his subsequent unfortunate accidental death on the railway at Northam, under the heading 'Shocking Death Of A Station-Master'. In that article, it clearly states: "From the Cape he went to India, and thence to the Crimea (but he was not in the Balaclava charge, as reported)." If you have trouble finding this article, please contact me via my personal email, <redacted>, and I will send it to you.

I hope it isn't going to be much longer before we can get this piece gratuitous twaddle permanently removed.

RfA / PERM

I put my foot firmly in my mouth a while back at WP:RFP/ACC, but at WP:RFP/C, what I originally said actually does apply. But on the other hand, why exactly aren't you an admin? I took a look at your RfA from way back in 2012, and none of the issues there sound like true deal-breakers that would still follow you in 2016, provided you corrected the issues. I haven't thoroughly reviewed your recent contributions, but your role as an administrator of the AC tool gives you an obvious reason for needing the bit. A trip to WP:ORCP certainly wouldn't hurt, and I encourage you to at least give that poll a shot. ~ Rob13Talk 22:09, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@BU Rob13: Thank you for the nod, but I believe my quick "trigger finger" and a deficiency in agf would still give me a snowballs chance, hence the lack of RfA/2. WP:RFP/C has been removed from my watch. Mlpearc (open channel) 23:09, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Uncorrelated links

Due to incomplete editing I can't complete at this time for reasons discussed, inconsistency exists on at least two pages. The ones I have noticed are links under "Categories" section at the bottom of pages [1] [2] that don't match the birth years given in the lead. I am simply making you aware of the matter. Please do not consider this an edit request or cite my message in your edit summary if you do decide to make the changes. Iistal (talk) 02:34, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Iistal: You lost me, why are you notifying me of this ? Mlpearc (open channel) 02:37, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you recall, I can only edit pages for dead individuals per the temporary BLP restriction. I did a lot of editing in the past. Some of it could use correction, such as the examples provided. I've made it known to you, because you seem to check my contribs often (if that's not the case, then there have been a lot of coincidences). Again, this is not an edit request, but if you are looking for things to fix... Iistal (talk) 03:44, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Iistal: I recall your restrictions, I don't "follow" anything that doesn't show up on my watchlist, normally (however, after editing here for almost ten years I just recently stumbled upon how to watchlist changes to categories ), you were editing articles on my list. If I find an editor that I feel might have issues, I will go through their 'tribs. I am glad you're back, but I'm not following you (unless you edit an page on my list). If I can ever help you with something please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 03:58, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Well, I am just bringing to attention that Van Devere has a '41 d.o.b. in the lead and infobox, but a contradictory Category:1943 births tag is at the end of the profile because I didn't notice it when I originally edited the top sections; it should be changed to Category:1941 births since there is proof [3] (although that link might be unsuitable for inclusion since it reveals a phone number and home address). As for the more general Category:1940s births on Locke's page, it can be changed to the specific Category:1944 births since the citations in the lead establish '44 as the correct year with certainty. I hesitate to directly ask you to make such changes since I find the "change per edit request [with talk page link]" summaries incredibly pretentious and wouldn't want that. But if you want to make the changes by your own accord without linking this discussion to them, I would encourage that by all means. In reviewing my own edit history, there are several other errors and/or contradictions that I've noticed and may request other editors to fix. (If you are interested in more fixing, I could point them out for you.) I actually think I will attempt the "Right to Vanish" feature before this six-month ban is over, because when I started editing early this year, I didn't intend for it to be a long-term thing. For the most part I was interested in making corrections to the many errors I'd come to notice in reading a lot of Wiki articles. Iistal (talk) 06:06, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as you've stated thrice, this isn't an edit request, I don't do very many Category edits, besides it's best to request edits on the talk page, Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 16:44, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Name formatting

This is just something I noticed. When an actor goes by a stage name, do you refer to them by that stage name immediately, or do you start with their real name followed by "known professionally as..." ?

When you made edits to Derek's page, a subsequent change reformatting the beginning [4] was not reverted. Is it safe to assume you approve of that change because you haven't reverted it?

This also illustrates that something is wrong on another article, Demi Moore. First of all, there is no evidence that Guynes is or ever was her legal name. The "known professionally as" should be removed from the intro; it should ONLY say Moore because public records show that IS her real name [5][6]. Maybe you can insert a née in parentheses.

I actually do consider this one an edit request, but a request only on the condition that you wouldn't write such in the edit summary or link this message to it. (I have to assume you would unless otherwise asked to.) Iistal (talk) 22:29, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Iistal: Well, for page titles looks like this should be the guideline, as far as edits like this I follow WP:SURNAME. The one issue I keep running into is professionally known as or also known as. Mlpearc (open channel) 23:04, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Iistal: Your examples both say Demi Gene Moore, the problem I have is I don't view the sources as reliable, even though they may be correct, if my change were challenged I could not confidently defend the sources. I suggest you open a name issue discussion on the talk page. Mlpearc (open channel) 01:53, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Iistal: Are you allowed to make edit request on BLP's ? Mlpearc (open channel) 01:55, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
To answer your question in the third response, I don't know - which is why I have requested these messages not to be characterized as such. Back to the name, here's a legal document which supports the contention that Guynes is not her last name [7]. Do you view that one as reliable? Iistal (talk) 06:25, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Iistal: I think that, that just proves that Moore is a legal last name she has, but not that Moore is her birth name. I support this reference [1] which means the page title and lead are correct. Mlpearc (open channel) 16:29, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

References

The change I am suggesting is that she be referred to as Demi Moore in the opening sentence, not Demi Guynes, since public records and photostats of signed legal documents establish Demi Moore as her legal name. "Known professionally" should be removed completely, since it is established that Moore is her real name, not a stage name. I don't dispute that Guynes is a past name she has used; I dispute that it is her name NOW (which is what the opening suggests). She has not gone by Guynes since 1980 or earlier. I would suggest the following: Demi Moore (née Guynes; born November 11, 1962) is an American actress ...
I thought filmreference.com was deemed unreliable by the major editors on Wikipedia due to countless inaccuracies which have been exemplified [8][9][10][11][12] (erroneous birthdates on all of those, to demonstrate a few) – FilmReference.com is notoriously inaccurate. I am surprised an editor of such high standing as yourself would support it. Iistal (talk) 07:21, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jenny 867-5309

Hi,

I added a reference to a Cheers episode that referred to the song Jenny/867-5309 in the "Pop Culture Usage" section of the wiki page. You reverted it because I didn't add a reference, but then I added a reference, and it seems to have been reverted again. I feel it matched the quality of the other items in that section and should be included in the article. If you disagree, can you please let me know why it was reverted again?

Thanks, Ken — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.24.231.12 (talk) 04:42, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@174.24.231.12: It was removed because it's deemed trivial and non-notable. You can start a discussion on the article's talk page and try to gain consensus for inclusion. Mlpearc (open channel) 15:15, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Higgs

Well reference 1 states he was born in Newcastle and grew up there until he was 31, and many of the other references also state the same. The reason the nationality should be changed to English is that many people assume he is Scottish as he lives in Edinburgh and see British as a way of English people trying to claim a Scottish person. A BIG example of this is Andy Murray as I'm sure your aware of.

Also I noticed you reverted some other edits I made. I assume the reason you did this is because some of it is unsourced, which I can easily fix, and I don't vandalise pages I try to improve them. Note the changes I have made regarding Humphry Davy on several pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick876436 (talkcontribs) 17:44, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Nick876436: first, your assumption is incorrect, I have no idea who Andy Murray is. Second, the title of the source your claiming is "Peter Higgs: a truly British scientist" how does that translate to English ? Mlpearc (open channel) 17:59, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion should be at the article's talk page
@Mlpearc: Well sorry for assuming that, but the point i'm trying to make is that i have seen many journalists, from reputable sources like the bbc, say that higgs is scottish : [1].

And from Kenneth Macdonald Scottish broadcaster, bbc Scotland special correspondent and science correspondent:[2], and John Scally National Librarian and Chief Executive, National Library of Scotland: [3]. so i could easily make an edit that changes Higgs's nationality to Scottish and back it up with reputable sources even though it would be incorrect. And it is a nationality we are talking about, it is a fact that higgs was born and grew up in England so you dont need a specific reference to clarify that as it is already pointed out in a lot of the other references.

Also about the British thing i am aware that outside the UK that is how people usually refer to people from the UK, but within the UK people are largely either English, Scottish or welsh: [4] and [5]. Most Famous people from the UK are classed as English or Scottish etc. like Micheal Faraday is described as English and James Clark Maxwell is Scottish. so i don't see the problem in me changing peter Higg's nationality to English.

Also regarding the reverting of some of the edits i made, i know for a fact what i have edited is accurate and can easily prove it with reputable sources e.g William Ramsay did co-discover those elements with Morris Travers e.g. [6]. you wouldn't,for example, mention the discovery of DNA without mentioning both Francis Crick and James Watson. Nick876436 (talk) 19:44, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: also i forgot to mention that on many famous UK people’s pages e.g. James Clark Maxwell their Nationality is English or Scottish or Welsh, but their Citizenship is British. Would it be ok to edit Peter Higgs’s page in that way. Nick876436 (talk) 20:13, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I saw your edits at Higgs boson and found the discussion here: I don't see the point of splitting "British" up. Do we do this for the US states, for the German states, for French departements, or for any other country's regions? In articles with scientific content (like the Higgs boson) not even the nationality is relevant. --mfb (talk) 23:19, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Mfb: Not sure what you mean by "splitting "British" up" Mlpearc (open channel) 23:25, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Writing "English", "Scottish" and so on. --mfb (talk) 23:43, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

England edits and peter higgs

@Mlpearc: Sorry if im using the talk page wrong.

As for your argument of not splitting british up US and german states are seperate parts of a single country whereas the United kingdom is 4 individual countries

as for removing my England edits i cant see whats wrong with them as they are all reliably referenced. for example Dna profiling/ fingerprinting was invented by alec jeffreys from Oxford as shown in the two references i added ( and is also clearly stated on the DNA profiling wikipedia page.)

and i stated my reasons for the peter higgs citizenship edit in my last message to you.

Unsolicited explanation. This information should be discussed on the article's talk

Regarding the page Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Ghazi

Here you can obviously see that the clan Gadabursi is divided in 2 branches, the Habar Affan and Habar Makadur, the latter making roughly 90% of the clan.

There are two main fractions, the Habr Afan and Habr Makadur, formerly united under a common hereditary chief (ogaz)[13]

Here the English translation of the Futuh Al Habasha: Conquest of Abyssinia one can see than Western scholars have agreed that the clan mentioned is written as Habr Maqdi or Makadi

[14] [15]

On page 27 as a footnote Richard Pankhurst clarifies that it's the Habr Makadur.

[16]

So the individual based on WP:MAINSTREAM can't keep on undoing the edit. WP:MAINSTREAM on wiki means high quality within a particular field of science or scholarship. The expert in the case of the -Shihāb al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn ʻAbd al-Qādir ʻArabfaqīh Tsehai Publishers & Distributors, 2003 - are Stenhouse and Richard Pankhurst, a British academic with expertise in the study of Ethiopia.

Also the genealogy of the Habr Makadur of the Gadabuursi is mentioned in the book and the location of the Habr Makadi mentioned in the book corresponds with that of the Habr Makadur of the Gadabuursi.

The Habr Magaadleh is not mentioned in the book. - comment added by AbwaanRooble (talk • 08:29, 8 October 2016

That said, this is not a copyright-violating YouTube video. It was released on YouTube by the entity that produced it. The video shows an interview conducted by the producer of that video. As such, it is a reliable source that documents things Jesse Ventura said in the interview. It is not a reliable source for substantiating claims of fact, but it is a reliable source for substantiating quotations. The fact that it is found on YouTube is irrelevant. The content is what matters here, and the purpose for which it is being used on Wikipedia. And that purpose, citing a quotation, is a valid use of that source.
The essay Wikipedia:Video links, while not a policy or guideline, nevertheless provides good guidance for linking videos. ~Amatulić (talk) 00:47, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just going to use your talk page Mlpearc to keep everything in the same place. If you want me to move please let me know. Alright. @Mutaito0321:. I have marked all the images you uploaded to Commons for deletion as they can't be there. The only potentially valid images are the two logos for Scatter Records and Music is my girlfriend. Those would have to be uploaded here, directly to enwiki, and placed under fair use. Every other image, all the people, are copyrighted images and cannot be used. Please do not attempt to upload them as you attempted to do at Commons. They will be deleted and repeated violations will result in the revocation of your editing privileges.

Every image you find online is copyrighted unless there is an explicit notice otherwise. Photographs of living people cannot be uploaded here unless they have been released under a free license that allows for reuse and modification by anyone at any time and for any purpose. I can do the two logos but the other ones are not acceptable and will not be uploaded. --Majora (talk) 23:27, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Majora. I need to ask you 2 things:

1) You say that you're gonna upload the 2 logos yet their picture doesn't show.

2) Why can't I upload pictures of people if there are already lots of pictures uploaded on Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mutaito0321 (talkcontribs) 23:34, October 20, 2016 (UTC)

Because I haven't done it yet. Have a little patience please. You can't upload them because of copyright law and our policies on the matter. The other images are either free use or have been placed under our fair use doctrine which allows for extremely limited use of copyrighted images. None of the images, besides the logos, fall under that doctrine and can't be used. Copyright law is complex and our policies on the matter are as well. Sorry, but that is just how it is. Also, don't delete comments by other people. --Majora (talk) 23:44, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Mutaito0321, I've left a message on your talk page, which include helpful links to our Image and Copyright policies. Please take a look at them and if there still remains some question unanswered, feel free to ask them there. Anup [Talk] 00:07, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

1) Why is it that providing excellent profile pictures to some Wikipedia pages is considered a violation of copyright? 2) Why is it that lots of other Wikipedia pages have excellent profile pictures and those are not considered as a violation of copyright? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mutaito0321 (talkcontribs) 01:58, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
