Wow, great!! That's not a bad picture either. Thanks! By the way, someone popped up today with a new picture of Joseph Gordon-Levitt that is quite decent, so you can strike him from your request list. Again, thanks! Wildhartlivie (talk) 06:06, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Ack. Then don't strike his name. And it's such a GOOD image. Wildhartlivie (talk) 06:24, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
I'll keep looking too, then. I hate the image we have, even if I did upload it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 06:43, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Wonderful!! It's not all that bad a photo, and if the one we have in the infobox is deleted, then we can crop the new one to remove that chick and use it. Congratulations and thanks!!!! Wildhartlivie (talk) 12:44, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Ants in the Pantry and other Stooge shorts

You have made a heluva lot work for me going through many of the Stooge entries and removing bits and pieces. The running times are exact and are listed for a reason. In addition, instead of simply removing photos whose rationale is not completed, simply drop me an email advising me of this and I will add the needed rationale. Pauline Kael again

Sorry about this again, after Black Kite took away every image from the books of film criticism articles, now Eskog has done the same . Every single poster, every single screenshot. The result is a mass of verbiage, that looks unreadable to me. If you could look at one last article Going Steady, and see, what I was doing, and what it is now, and give one last opinion, I would be grateful. I used two screenshots, one of Mae Marsh in 'Intolerance' as well as a few posters, to make the page attractive as well as the text being related to the content of the article. If you say no., every image has to go, then I will not revert again, but I don't want to be part of the Film group any more, because it seems to me an encyclopedia should be striving to make itself , readable and attractive , a mix of words and images, and if the only people preventing this are other editors within the project, I prefer to act singly than with editors whose actions I fail to understand. ( I understand admins who know all the rules have to stick with them - its interpretation as well though, I guess, balance, I find the bulldozer tactics of editors like Eskog and black kite, no discussion, no moderate pruning, rude edit summaries etc..demoralising) Sayerslle (talk) 13:15, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your last message. I will leave the project, I'll have to take my name off the list. I'm not really a team-player anyway, when I see the work of someone like Lugnuts for example, i'm just not that disciplined. I haven't learnt the rules either - I thought I could use screenshots for example, even though it was for a book article, - it was the sense that there was no speaking to the deletors, no compromise, not one or two images, etc. And I want to feel free to confront enemies without disgracing the project! No, I'm kidding, I don't want to get banned. I'm surprised how annoyed I get about things. Thanks for your help and I will contribute to film articles if I feel I have something to contribute.Sayerslle (talk) 11:15, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Little Miss Sunshine

Wish you'd done the reversion before I found it and spent quite a long time trying to copyedit the "Plot" section. I had no idea what the "base" version was. It was such a mess that I couldn't believe this is a featured article. Anyhow, thanks. — Cheers, JackLee talk 18:06, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

You might want to note in the newsletter that I was awarded the film barnstar for my work cleaning up Italian films.. Re: this, every time someone posted it, I couldn't verify. It wasn't listed on IMDB yesterday, although it is there today. Also, regarding the photo credit, I've been looking at that and per WP:CAPTION#Credits, photo credits should only be on the image page and not in the article, which is why I removed it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 20:02, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

One thing I hate is ambiguous guidelines. Who is notable to one person isn't necessarily notable to another. There's a whole thing going on about the pictures taken by a photographer I wouldn't consider very notable. Ack! Wildhartlivie (talk) 02:25, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Multimedia department

I'm considering starting a multimedia department under WikiProject Films for greater guidance on images, audio samples, and video samples (but most especially the latter). A draft can be found at User:Erik/Multimedia department. I was wondering if you could write a little at length about how editors should approach Flickr? Let me know if you have any thoughts or suggestions about this department. I'm just fleshing it out a little before showing it at WT:FILM for community input. Erik (talk) 20:20, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for taking care of that. Those are the calls I would have made. Took a lot of grief during the last few GA review I closed thus had been putting these ones off. I think it would be a good idea to have people review in pairs. Jaws

I think I will go to the Library of Congress tomorrow. I will photograph pages of references for Jaws if you like. I'll be putting together a list of references, but let me know if you want anything in particular. Erik (talk) 21:04, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

There are some really good books whose chapters I can photograph. I think having books as the primary references at that article would make it a stronger Featured Article, unlike all the websites it uses. Do you want to collaborate on this? I can possibly email a set of images to you. Erik (talk) 21:12, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
The following are books I cannot get from LOC: 1, 2, and 3. There are quite a few Spielberg biographies, but I think at some point, there will be overlap. Erik (talk) 21:23, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

I disagree that the article is easy to save. It would need an overhaul to be up to the standard of today's Featured Article, especially the recent two. I don't blame you for disliking the loss of older Featured Articles, but films like Jaws, Casablanca, and Sunset Boulevard really should have been more comprehensive and less reliant on Internet references. It's just not easy for most editors to do. When you used Google Scholar, did you encounter any limitations of page views? As for a video clip, I do not see anything in the article right now that would warrant one. Audio clip would definitely be a possibility, though I am not sure about the guidelines for sampling? I would not know what part of the Jaws theme to extract. :P Honestly, I need to see the movie again because it will help give me context for any contributions I may make. I'll email you with an update on the references. Would you consider a referencing setup like at American Beauty (film), with multi-paged publications separate from briefer publications? Erik (talk) 13:46, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

I got back from LOC recently, and I have to say that there is a lot left to be done. There are some really thorough references that the Wikipedia article needs, especially one that gives breakdowns of multiple scenes, which would be great for a video sample. Are you trying to beat the FARC with your improvements? I am feeling that we would not have time to improve it to meet current standards and that it would be better for Jaws to go through the FAN process again. In terms of comprehensiveness, I feel it should be reevaluated in that process and not at the simpler FARC setup. If you still want to work on it regardless of FARC discussion, let me know, and I'd be happy to help. If you want to rescue Casablanca or Sunset Boulevard, too, we should do these preemptively. Erik (talk) 21:14, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
The cleanup listing looks like it covers all the bases. We really should start on the oldest items; I think that FAs from 2007 and afterward are generally in acceptable shape. Casablanca and Sunset Boulevard are probably in the most dire need of improvement, if you want to collaborate on either one. Obviously, we need to do our research... for the aforementioned films we should be prepared to accept that there may be sub-articles. I was going to do Psycho (1960 film) but realized that the amount of references would contribute more content than a single article can hold. Something like American Beauty (film) is at its seams, and it's not a Core-class film article. Let me know if you want to coordinate the improvement; I've added references at Talk:Casablanca (film). Hi!

Question out of curiosity. This might be something that was already discussed in which case I must have missed it.

The current coordinator terms have begun on September 29, 2009 and, if I'm not wrong assuming that our term length is 6 months, will expire on March 29. Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Coordinators/Election 5 opened on September 1, 2009 and concluded on September 14 which is now already more than 6 months ago. What is the planned timeframe for the next election? Are we holding off until the drive is completed or is something in the works before then? Big Bird (talkcontribs) 18:58, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Good articles sweeps

Hey, thanks for all the work you've done on sweeps! When it's all said and done (which should be only a couple of days away now) could you do one last thing? Could you produce a statistic that showed the percentage of GAs that were kept and the percentage that were delisted? That will tell us the damage the sweeps project has done to the GA project. At the same time it will tell us GA sweepers if we've been to strict or too lenient (personally, I've kept approximately a 2/1 ratio.) Lampman (talk) 00:35, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Im Juli DVD cover

I'm not sure I understand the justification for this removal. The image was the U.S. DVD cover, which should be no less fair-use than the original German cover. I hadn't logged in for a while so the file was deleted before I could catch it, therefore I can't be sure whether the file had the appropriate fair use templates, but I seem to remember it did, and I thought the usual action would have been to tag the file rather than remove it. Request your action on sorting out a merger of 8 overlapping articles

Hi Nehrams2020,

There are 8 Wiki articles attracting a lot of poorly-bounded, duplicative effort. Only one of them right now falls under any Wiki task force -- your Filmmaking task force. As a result, I'm writing to you (not entirely sure of normal procedure here). Of course, this is not to ask you to take charge personally, but to urge you to delegate some responsibility as soon as you can, and ensure the lead coordinator is also reaching out to an appropriate IT-related Task force so that the topics can be merged in an appropriate way for your two (merging) fields.

All 8 of the pages are interesting, with a bunch of old-skool IT gurus providing history.

Your task force's article is this one:

The parallel articles are these:

There are plenty of other articles that overlap on this issue, and I would ask you to look at these as well to see what's going on:

It's one of those cases where authors should be looking beyond the page they've landed on or maintained, and come together in a way that will strengthen everybody's work and deepen everyone's insights. I don't know how the merger process is authorized, but this is a plea to get this thematic mess organized.

Thanks for your attention. A.k.a. (talk) 17:54, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Have just read this article and wanted to send a special thanks to you and the GA Sweeps Team, for all the good work you have done! I'm sure it will benefit many of our readers. -- Johnfos (talk) 05:52, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April.

Did you write the film newsletter yourself the last couple times? Did you want help? I know you do a lot of work around wikipedia but somehow you always manage to get the newsletter out on time. If it would make it easier I wouldn't mind helping out. --Peppagetlk 13:09, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Alex Tse

Hello, I have worked on Alex Tse and found this as a possible image to use for his article. I got in touch with her successfully, and she asked, "What would you need from me and what would happen with the picture?" I'm still feeling clumsy with Flickr release requests; what would be a good way to explain it, both in terms of the license and the actual configuration and the recognition? Erik (talk) 11:20, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Hurray, I believe she did it! Can you review the URL for me and make sure the image properly licensed? If so, what do I do here? Do I upload to Wikimedia Commons in its entirety? I would like to use a more cropped version of that image; how would that work? Erik (talk) 12:05, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Alex Tse now has a picture! :) I'm pretty durn pleased! Erik (talk) 04:09, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey

Hey Nehrams, how you doin'? Long time no talk. Listen, I want your opinion on an image I found on Flickr, see I found this image of Tina Fey and her husband Jeff Richmond, though, here's the thing, if I can ask the user for permission for it's use, I don't it to backfire on me if some user believes that's not Richmond, which it is, or some other excuse, you know. In your opinion, would that image be one of those that you upload here? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 15:15, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I know, but I'm just glad the FAC process is over. I just really enjoy looking at that star in his article. :) I know it's really, really, really, really, really, really, really late, but, congrats on Tropic Thunder passing, such a great movie. Here's this one and compare it to this one... I know not that great. Yeah, that's what I thought. I was interested in getting this one, but the thing that stood out was that many of the images, well the lead ones, people are always looking to their right, you know. Like Damon and Pitt, they used look at their left, but now they they look to their right, maybe I'm just being paranoid. Yeah, she has a movie due in April, maybe they'll be better shots of the two. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:07, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I guess. Alright, I'll ask for permission for that image, and I guess I shouldn't mind the way they face then. I shouldn't make a big deal out of it. Gosh, you have such a pretty photo album. I'm so jealous. ;) I'm looking forward to Date Night as well, the movie and images of the two. You know, I could have sworn I saw a good image of Carell while doing my searches of Fey. I'll see if I can find that, and show it to you. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:39, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
IDK, now I'm going back and forth with it. The current image looks good, though this image doesn't "match up". Dang, I'm so picky, and I apologize for that, just want to live up to the image standards here. I'll just ask the author of the image and see what becomes of it. Since the Date Night premiere just occurred in Germany, I'll keep on a look out for any images. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:33, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I've asked permission, so let's see what it results in. Yeah, I hate those images with a fan. Look at this one with Jon Hamm, though I got lucky. Yeah, exactly; they're work gets recognized here. Thank you for that, I would appreciate your help with those Fey images. Yeah, she got that scar when she was little. That's the thing, she doesn't like to show her left side of her face when she's acting on 30 Rock, which is understandable of course. Speaking of 30 Rock, you hear that Damon will be guest starring? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 00:48, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I can't wait for the cameo, he was one of those who I wished would guest star, now it's coming true. :) Some people get the show, some don't, understandable I guess. Eh, The Office is alright, seen a couple episodes of Community, though hasn't really appealed to me. OMG, you were attacked? Aw man. I hope your doing good... now... from it. Man, I can't image what you went through at age three. Man. Update: The author gave me permission, so I'll upload the image soon. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 23:37, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

I apologize for my late reply, been super busy here. Yeah, that's true. I do like The Office and enjoy Parks and Recreation, but it really comes down to 30 Rock. I know, it totally sucks that there's re-runs. Well, I do hope that you are doing well from the experience. I couldn't imagine going through something like that. Due to the fact that I've been so darn busy, I haven't had a chance to upload the Fey image, but I'll get to it soon, I promise you that. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 03:45, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
What are you talking about? I loved the movie. I was laughing non-stop. I'm a go see it later. Though, there were a couple of scenes that could've gotten a "do-over". I'll upload it... soon. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 23:30, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale on images

I have a question if you're around. Do images need a fair use rationale or is the non-free media rationale enough? For example, some images have a "Fair use" summary and others just use the {{tl:Film cover fur}} summary. I've been using the FUR template. Is that all that's needed?

Never mind. I see that template is for film covers. Is there a template FUR for use with screen shots and other images? What specifically needs addressing with that screen shot I linked above? —Mike Allen 21:44, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Re:

Thank you very much for the image. It's a nice shot of the two. :) Thanks for finding it. As for the Oscar image, I don't think I'll be uploading that soon. I e-mailed the author asking them if they could send my asking of it and their permission to OTRS, but I haven't heard back from the author, so. I'm gonna have to keep looking and see what I come up with. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 00:56, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Ugh. You know, I used to send them the e-mail exchanges and that was fine. But then, I got an e-mail telling me that the author needed to do this instead. I mean, what more do they want? Yeah, I know. If the author gives up the permission, then that's all that should matter. They should be grateful because of that. I've been fortunate enough that users change the license to some rights reserved. Dang, that sucks. I just checked my e-mail for those notices, but got none. Yes, I'm glad, too. I have intentions of getting her article to FA and want her article "professional" and stuff, meaning the images. Not even close, but I found this one, due to it being from the Date Night premiere. Hey, you know what, I tried my best looking for an image of the two, sorry that I don't have your excellent image... thingy. ;) Yes, thank goodness for award shows, festivals, and premieres. :P Also, ugh, I'm still waiting on the confirmation for these two images ---> File:Tina Fey SAG Winner 2010.jpg and File:Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt 2010 Golden Globes.jpg. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 01:21, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Oh, believe me I will top you. ;) I'm surprised you got that image and not one of Fey alone. Oh well, I guess that's my duty. :) I wish you good luck with those images, and hopefully they stay here. Thank you, I appreciate that, and yeah it would, she's a great actress, should have a great article. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:16, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll keep an eye out for an image of Fey. Yeah, the image of the two is a definite help to the article. Yeah, exactly, so many great actors/actresses out there that deserve a nice article for their excellent work. There's a couple of articles that I have GA that I want to expand to FA. I'll try my best to do all that. :) Damon is another article I have in mind, but we'll see. If you can find a good image of Peter Sarsgaard, that would be most appreciated. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 20:09, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Clint Eastwood

Starting to look better, your contributions are much appreciated!. By the end of next week I hope to have up to 1995 done, I'm afraid that's where the book end, the other one does too oh actually a few films after Madison County but nothing on 1999 - present of course. As you book is written in 2009 we'll have to rely on that for his films 1995-present! I'm up to Tightrope at the moment. Once I go through afterwards and even out the sources using my other book with a lot of copyediting and cutting I think eventually we could get an FA out of this but it may be a year before we get one. It needs a tremendous amount of work. The problem is the 1970s his career peak and cramming in information which is completely relevant. Other sources such as direct reviews of CLint's performances should also be added and replace some of the film reviews overall I've added from the book. Whenever you come to edit though check (I see you did this time) that no annoying ip has tampered with it and it not been fully caught by the recent changes patroller. The other night I had to restore a lot from a week or two ago which had been stupidly removed. I'll be monitoring the diffs everytime I log in just to check it hasn't been altered wrongly. It is going to need a lot of protection by us to deal with the ips it gets. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:44, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

This is to acknowledge and thank you for the many quality free images you have found and contributed to numerous articles, most recently Stanley Tucci. So many articles are richer as a result of your efforts. Rossrs (talk) 14:25, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Um actually (many quality free images found) is not actually true. Nehrams went out of his way to request many images and went to great lengths to get them OTRS ticketed! I bet Nehrams really wishes they could have all been freely found!! SO I second this barnstar as I understand the great (and often highly frustrating) lengths you've gone too. I made an agreement with the Tibetan Himalayan library months ago who authorised me to use their images; I'm still waiting for OTRS approval. Nehrams I'm approaching The Unforgiven in my book. Only a chapter to read now. Once thats done I'll start on the Schneikel book and sort out the referencing. If you have time to sort out any of the bare ULR references in the article please do. I've done thre first half Refs 148-175 and some at the end need fixing/removing and replacing. In your book do you also get the impression that Eastwood is not really too disimilar to Dirty Harry in real life? Some of the things he did were just plain mean!! A real bad ass. Often petty/childish at times. I read that if somebody parked in his car parking space at Malpaso he would ram the car out of the way just so he could have his spot. If he were anybody other than Clint Eastwood he'd have had a lot of legal problems!! He'd never have made it as mayor of Carmel either if the illegitimate children and affais he had had of been public in 1986... And the funny thing is that he was said to be screwing his successor as mayor of Carmel too!! Basically you get the impression that anybody who got in his way or did something he disapproved of you'd be sidelined and never heard of again. How he could just drop friends and good people like he did because he wanted his own way was pretty cruel... But he is Clint Eastwood I guess, his characters of the Man with No Name and Dirty Harry were so believable I think because he really did have a lot of that toughness and intolerance in his nature in real life... Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:58, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I never knew he was a that much of a womanizer either until I read the book. You know what they say about the quiet ones.... I've begun looking at the Schickel book. In fact the films are easy to find looking at the index. I hope to beef up the sourcing to around 350-400 references by the time we've finished, even with condensing. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:02, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

hmmm Dr. Blofeld, you're right. My careless use of the word "found" makes it sound like Nehrams was just minding his own business and stumbled upon a treasure trove of free images just ripe for the picking. I know that's not the case, and that Nehram's efforts have been more broad, so for the word "found", I'm happy to substitute "tracked down with tenacity, patience, inspiration, motivation and perspiration, and contributed to numerous articles...." Rossrs (talk) 10:17, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

I laughed quite a bit at this, I think you pretty much nailed it on the head. No, I think you're giving too much praise. I can at least protest that I didn't perspire while searching for the images... --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 02:25, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I know! LOL. Nehrams I've made major changes to the Clint Eastwood article today. You'll notice in particular the major improvement in referencing. Once I finish the Schickel book and added other sources it should be perectly balanced, so if you can try not to remove any fiurther McGilligan sources unless there are too many in close proximity; I intend adding a similar amount of Schickel references. You can double source them though to make them look more believable... One thing though. I'm considering writing a image/style/popularity section but it is incredibly difficult to write in a way which avoids POV nad fan cruft. Could you help me write a decent referenced section in User:Dr. Blofeld/Launch Pad 2. I think a section which discusses his tough image, directing style and influence in popular culture is a very appropriate section but I find it difficult to approach. The content of 1992-present will gradually improve over the few weeks, your book of course would make a great addition to these section combined with what I have and can find on the web. Once fully written I mean making it as comprehensive as possible with as wide reading as possible, then it can be condensed, hoefully not losing too many sources but whittling it down to a finely tuned article. This of course will take months but I think the article is quickly getting into shape now.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:41, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Excellent. Actually I was not responsible for those McGilligan unmarked pages, somebody else did that when the section had an unreferenced BLP sign to remove it. Thanks for that. I think that best way actually is to continue to reference and fill it out evenly. Once that is done, then I think we should begin condensing it and splitting onto sub pages. But the "beefing" up working making it comprehensive as possible has to be done first and then whittled down afterwards. That's how I've always written articles anyway and it has always worked for me with FAs/GAs... Dr. Blofeld White cat 08:46, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Request for copyeditor

Hi Nehrams,

I've recently sent Paramount Television Network to FAC. On the article's FAC, one experienced FAC reviewer has asked for the article to be copyedited by someone unfamiliar with the topic. My efforts in the past at getting editors to review the article have not been successful.

As a WP:Films editor with FA and GA experience, I think you are highly qualified to review, rework, and copyedit this article. I would appreciate your input, and am willing to reciprocate on an article of your choice. Please let me know if you are willing to work on, review, or take a look at this article. Firsfron of Ronchester 13:02, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

I'll take a look at it later tonight. I don't know how much help I'll be, as although I do well enough copyediting, I'm still not up to par for FAC (I've had a lot of help with the FAs I worked on), but we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it's enough to push some more editors to support the nomination. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 01:04, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi Nehrams,
Thanks so much for agreeing to take a look at the article. I understand that you feel you may not be up to par (most of us at FAC feel the same about our own contributions, I think), but any work you can do truly is appreciated. Let me know, also, if I can do the same for you. Thanks again. Firsfron of Ronchester 03:33, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the work on the article. I'll be working on the talk page comments shortly. Firsfron of Ronchester 04:15, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi Nehrams,
I think I've incorporated all or nearly all of your suggestions into the article. I deeply appreciate your contributions and observations about the article. So thank you. As I promised above, I'm willing to reciprocate with an article of your choice. If you're not ready to submit an article to FAC or GAN or anything, consider this an "IOU". :) Happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 16:42, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Please do ping me when your article gets to FAC; I may not know anything about the subject, but often that's a good thing. Also, I would appreciate it if you could possibly ping the PTN FAC with a notice that you've copyedited the article. Firsfron of Ronchester 17:59, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Why has Erik retired? He was like the most straight laced editor on here!! At times he was almost too professional. What happened? I was about to offer to sell my Tyler Durden leather jacket to him which is too small for me and he said he loved it previously when I uploaded a picture. Certainly the last thing I expected was to see a retired tag. It is certainly a huge loss to WP:Films on here, even if I didn't always see eye to eye with him. Can you let me know what happened, either on here or my email? Not another identify crisis/RL threats again I hope. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:12, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

You may wish to return to Talk:Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy and re-evaluate your position on the article. MichaelQSchmidt has sourced some information for the documentary and would like everyone to review the page again. My opinion remains the same, as everyone on that page is already on A Nightmare on Elm Street (franchise)#Documentary, with the exception of the IMDb cast list for everyone interviewed. Hi there. Thank you for your assessment of this article and your very good advice. Myself and Papa November have made a few changes to the article in line with your suggestions and I feel the article is now B-class. I know you said we could change the class ourselves, but I feel a little uneasy about upgrading the class on an article I originally created and have made so many edits on. Would you be willing to have a quick look at the article and upgrade the class if we've met the criteria appropriately? Thanks for your help. Coolug (talk) 20:35, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

On Tour

Thanks a lot for the assessment of On Tour, that was exactly what I needed for the whole project of bringing Cannes film articles to C class. I have expanded the lead section and added slightly more to the plot. As you said, the film just premiered, so a more detailed plot summary will probably have to wait. I also added an accolades section since the film just won a prize. Would you mind taking a new look and see if it could qualify as C class now? Smetanahue (talk) 22:29, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Re: Image request

Hi Nehrams2020, as you might have surmised, I indeed am more busy for this time (probably up till mid-August) in which I am without most of my graphic tools. However, I believe I can still help you (though not as quick as I probably can before or after this period). Send the stuff over (via email or otherwise). However, I had a quick look at the article and saw that the images are lacking in sources or information that can vouch for their copyright, e.g. File:POWs celebrate.jpg is from Wikipedia and not from any National Archive site (or from a publication that states so); furthermore, not everything on the National Archives is PD (for instance, this photo could have been taken by a Filipino guerrilla instead). Check out these montages! Can you update the infobox film then with those Indian film parameters? As for Clint Eastwood, I'll get back to editing it later in the weke. What determines picture size on a live page?

Hi, Does the pixel height and width of the uploaded photo determine the size, or is there more to it? I'm trying to anticipate how large the photo will show on the live page, before I upload it.

Also, what is a good file size to use if I plan to insert two photos on a page in addition to the photo in the infobox? Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. Doc2234 (talk) 23:45, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Update and some other stuff on Cabanatuan

I am surprised that Dr. Michael Julius King's Rangers: selected combat operations in World War II was not referenced for this article. It is a {{PD-USGov-Military}} and his maps seem to have been the base model for the ones you have supplied me. The one from p. 170 of Breuer's The Great Raid was a straight copy of King's; perhaps you can scan a larger cleaner version and replace the one I uploaded from King at Commons (File:Cabanatuan Operations - Actions at the Objectives, January 1945.jpg)?

Anyway, I have completed the route map. How does it look? I omitted certain landmarks as they do not seem to have any part to play in the operations. The Osprey map is inaccurate in certain co-ordinates as well (e.g. Balincarin).

Now for the action map, would you prefer a rendition in 2D that is almost like King's (just in SVG), or would you prefer an isotropic isometric (fake 3D)?

Drawn by Benjamin Charles Steele (1917–)

In another dig around, I found this drawing (right) from a survivor of Cabanatuan and by failing to renew its copyright, it has fallen into the public domain; the drawing depicts a scene of life there at the camp. The image can illustrate a scene of camp life as remembered by one of its survivors.

And just for my indulgement, check this out. This is why I find sourcing to be important; Carl Mydans (Life photographer) was on hand to photo some of the aftermath. He has a similar photo of File:POWs celebrate.jpg, albeit taken at a slightly different time (likely standing next to the army photographer, or in the same spot shortly before or after). I added it to the article as an external link... unpublished images of the raid's aftermath. Jappalang (talk) 23:25, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

No problems, glad I could be of help. The action map would take a while. I think I would go for the isometric take on it; King's map (PD) is already very good on its own... and I think an isometric view (as inspired by that drawing held by the Alamo Scout in Larry Alexander's book) would be interesting. Jappalang (talk) 04:11, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Not really a death camp?

From a quick look over the article, there is an absence of mention of any "good" aspects of Cabanatuan camp; the portrayal of the Japanese follows common perception, of them in an absolute dark light (cruel men who maltreat and decapitate POWs all the time). The Japanese committed terrible war crimes but that does not mean there were no exceptions). There is a first-hand account (by Donald Rutter) that talk of a Cabanatuan camp commander who was not of that bent (perhaps for a short time), different from his predecessors (http://www.cnac.org/emilscott/rutter01.htm). I do not think it can be overlooked that Rutter is a primary source, and the project is strict about picking up words from such and using them. No doubt we should be looking for information from reliable secondary sources.

A search on Google books yields possible sources; of note: "We had complained among ourselves how rigorous life at Cabanatuan had been, but in comparison to our fellow inmates here we were in the pink of condition." from Prisoner of the Emperor by Stanley and Duane Smith. Much of the results, however, seem to be portraying the camp as a harsh place. Parkinson's Soldier Slaves, published by Naval Press Institute, talks of life at the camp (harsh, certainly backed by Steele above) and points out that the Japanese philosophy for them was containment, not extermination. John M. Wright's account of Cabanatuan in his Captured on Corregidor highlights certain luxuries the camphad in some periods. So all in all, it seems to me that the current article is not portraying the camp in true light (right now, it reads as if the camp was a straight out death camp since inception; perhaps in reality it was a "containment" camp, varying among "relative comfort", to harsh, to absolute tyranny from time to time). The article might not be portraying things in a balanced and unbiased view of the camp, especially since there is no separate article for the subject. Jappalang (talk) 23:25, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Finding the Japanese take on events would be difficult, considering how reticent they are over such affairs (either shame or simply not of their culture to write about their experiences in the war). Furthermore, with the common perception of the Japanese experience in the world, unless the Japanese points of view were culled and vetted by recognized scholars, adding them could prove to be of some challenge (in other words, the "quality" of the sources should best be impeccable or of substantial weight). Please explain why you removed two images from Americana (film). Acceptable within the Wikilaw, only to find out weeks later that my efforts were in vain. This is like my umteenth request for this type of information and I am VERY frustrated by this process, so please be explict in your explanation.--Ishtar456 (talk) 11:36, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your explanation. I think with a little more understanding of how these thing work I might be able to avoid uploading things that will be deleted. It is a terrible feeling. In the meantime, I have expanded the caption on the poster to point out that there is actually critical praise on the poster itself. That is more or less the reason I put it in the critical reception section of the article. The DVD cover looks better in the info box, I would not like to make that change.

I think the lack of images makes the article look barren. Still working on it. Take Care.--Ishtar456 (talk) 18:32, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: Video clips

Yeah, you can. Took me forever to figure it out with Star Trek: First Contact, but put a thumbtime=n parameter in the inline reference, for example in First Contact: [[File:S08-first contact borg queen assembled.ogv|thumbtime=14|220px|thumb|alt=]]. n is, of course, the number of seconds into the clip; I think the default is halfway in the duration, but either way you're best setting it at a custom one so that people don't necessarily have to load the entire thing. On the video you uploaded, File:ATATStopAnimationLandscapeStarWars.ogv: you could prolly boost the quality and resolution if you trimmed out the letterbox elements. I haven't used DVDVideoSoft or Premiere, but it should be simple enough to export a final file that's cropped to a widescreen aspect ratio to cut out all that black (assuming that it was part of the DVD presentation.) Re Image peer review

Hi Nehrams2020,

I'll take a look, but don't have time tonight. Are they all yours, or ones you've picked up Flickr, etc? Just checking there quickly, I think there's 36 in that gallery, which is quite a lot of reviewing. There's a few I'd discount even on thumbnail size, but many others look OK, at least at that size. Have you got a favourite say 3-5 that you'd like me to look at first? Cheers, --jjron (talk) 14:24, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

I'll give you a bit of feedback one at a time if that's OK, just as I get a few minutes. Please just also note these are just my opinions, and I have been known to be wrong in predicting FPC community consensus before :-). --jjron (talk) 10:09, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Stanley Tucci. Interesting this was the first one you listed; I actually liked this one from the thumbs in the gallery as well. Looking at it bigger, quality looks good, focus looks good (it's interesting, in portraits you usually look first that the eye/s are in sharp focus, but with his glasses on his eyes are actually out of focus, even though the focus looks to be in the right spot). I rather like it, but what may sink it at FPC is unfortunately it's in greyscale - given EV is one of our highest priorities, colour obviously conveys more information. Obviously if colour images don't exist that's not an issue, but given this is a contemporary performer, questions will be raised. If you could drum up a colour version this would have a very good chance; in B&W, well, I'd say doubtful. --jjron (talk) 09:30, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Barn. Nice picture, if a bit generic, but some slight issues. 1. I personally feel there would be a call for perspective correction; this is only a minor issue and fixable. 2. I think this is a bigger one. Does it meet size requirements? Yes. But not by a long way, and the number of pixels actually used on the barn would probably be a bit below size requirements given the amount of grass and sky present. There has been a bit of trend to expect images of this type of subject to exceed the size requirements by a fair margin. My personal feeling is it would fail on those grounds (btw, it's a possibility at VPC, but can I assume, for the sake of simplicity, that you're only concerned about FPC?). --jjron (talk) 10:09, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Miley Cyrus. Nice quality, focus is pretty good, there's something a bit weird though that the right-hand side of the pic seems more out of focus than the left (compare the hair for example), so perhaps there has been some digital manipulation there, unless it's just to do with the lighting. Negatives: perhaps the biggest is the tight crop, including chopping the top of her head, which makes it bit more arty than encyclopaedic; there may be a reason this isn't being used in the infobox. Another thing I'm not a fan of is the slightly harsh shadows, in particular the one cast by her nose across her face - the more you look at that the more distracting it becomes. Thirdly to me it's a good clear photo, but isn't overly informative in that it doesn't really convey much personality, if you know what I mean (the Tucci one in comparison does convey a bit of personality). Consider this a possibility. --jjron (talk) 13:16, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Mary Hart. To be honest I haven't gone past image page size on this one. Regardless of quality, to me she's got a really 'uncomfortable' look on her face. Background is also a bit messy. I would probably oppose this one. --jjron (talk) 13:21, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
  • FA18C Hornet Over San Diego. Looks quite nice quality, but maybe a battle for EV. It's only used in the San Diego article, but I personally doubt it's FP quality for that article, given the key focus on the plane. However if you put it in the FA18C Hornet article, the plane is only a small part of the picture, at a quick look seems slightly out of focus, and unfortunately is just overlapping that thing in the water giving it a slightly messy background (compared to say just having water). This to me seems more likely as a Commons FPC than an en:wiki FPC, but I'm really a bit unconvinced. Shore up the EV before considering this one. --jjron (talk) 14:31, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Re the image size, that preferred size of at least 1000px is in fact one of the few quantitative measures we have and is pretty strongly enforced. Many reviewers in fact consider it much too small (see here for example), and in practice few images that are not considerably above it get thru FPC. Re the Cyrus one, as I said above it's a possibility - some may instinctively oppose based on the cutoff head, some may not, so give it a try if you want. Same with the B&W one, exceptions can be made as you point out, but generally not for contemporary images where we know a colour version must exist, but again it could be worth a try. BTW the 'best we currently have available' argument doesn't go down too well at FPC, as we're not necessarily in a huge rush to have images featured - it still has to meet criteria. --jjron (talk) 13:31, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Can you leave Miley Cyrus with me for a few days (don't have time to do anything atm). --jjron (talk) 14:10, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

--Happy editing!

I realize you don't know me from Adam so take my opinion for what it's worth, but when you're doing hundreds of edits to a page that consist of single sentences and sentence fragments, as on the image cleanup page, the constant repetition of "--Happy editing!" or any signature phrase becomes very grating and makes it extremely difficult to read your comments. I would be hard-pressed to believe that I'm the only editor who has this difficulty. Could I suggest that in such situations in the future you omit that part of your signature, for the sake of other readers? Otto4711 (talk) 21:55, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
