List of County-Designated Highways in Michigan

Regarding your addition to List of County-Designated Highways in Michigan,

In Grand Traverse, Benzie, Leelanau, Kalkaska, and Antrim counties, as well as the highways listed above, there are other county highways without the letter prefix. These highways are unsigned, and are numbered as 6__ numbers. For example, Garfield Road in Grand Traverse County is labeled sometimes as County Road 611, and Cherry Bend Road in Leelanau County is labeled sometimes as County Road 633.

What you described are standard primary county roads. Officially, if a roadway isn't part of a state highway or under the maintenance of a city or a village in Michigan, it's a county road. Those are then classified as either a primary CR or a local CR. In years past, primary CRs were all numbered across the state using a grid scheme that repeated. Across the UP, for example, Luce County has county roads in the 100s, Marquette County uses numbers in the 400s, 500s and low 600s, and Gogebic County has numbers in the 200s and 500s, at least. Signing practices have varied over the years as counties. Some counties consistently use the numbers on signs, and others don't. Leelanau does sign some CRs with their numbers; Cedar Road is CR 651, complete with signs in places. Imzadi 1979 → 17:39, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

Photo uploads

I would suggest a large dose of caution before you upload any more photographs. I looked through your contributions to Commons, and it appears that 13 out of the 15 images you uploaded all came from other websites. It's a simple matter to input a URL for a photo on Commons into http://images.google.com/ to find the websites where they originated. As a general rule, unless a news website like http://www.mlive.com/ or the Traverse City Record-Eagle is reusing a photo already hosted at Wikimedia Commons, their photos are going to fall under copyright protections. That means it would be a violation of copyright to upload one of their photos to Commons, and it would be a major issue for you to claim credit and release it under a CC-BY-SA license. You could even be sued for misrepresenting their work as your own.

The other two images you uploaded are text logos. The TCAPS logo is definitely too simple to meet the threshold of originality to sustain a copyright because it's just text. The Village of Kingsley logo is closer to the borderline. I've changed the file description pages to properly credit the school district and village as the creators and source of those logos. "Official Flag"

Do you have a source that shows that image as the official flag of the city?

As a secondary concern, I've already warned you before about two major legal issues with your image uploads, but it seems that I'll have to reiterate those concerns. The first is uploading images that have a copyright attached. The purported flag is on a website that bears a copyright notice at the bottom. Unless you have a source that says it has been licensed under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license you used in uploading it to Wikimedia Commons that image has a copyright. Commons cannot host images under copyright. You can upload them directly to the English Wikipedia if you follow WP:NFCC, a set of specific rules on non-free content. The second issue is that you're uploading them in such a way as to imply you are the creator of the image in question. ("Source Own work".) If you are not the creator, that's a major issue.

Unless and until you can understand these principles, you should stop uploading images that you have not personally created with your own camera or drawn yourself. Imzadi 1979 → 18:44, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Please don't restore that listing again. Many of the entries you listed don't meet the definitions, or they had inaccuracies. Additionally, we should not be citing self-published sources. Once those issues are removed, we're back down to the core list that's in the national listing, and that's not enough to establish a stand-alone list for Michigan. List of county roads in Grand Traverse County

I have redirected that to the county article. Many of those roadways are not signed, and frankly, we don't need such lists because the roads within them are not notable (under WP:GNG and other tests). Adding such a list just adds to the maintenance burden for the Michigan Highways Task Force (aka basically me). Michigan Highways

Chris Bessert is well regarded in various circles, but his website Michigan Highways has not been accepted for use as a source in our articles. Under our policies and guidelines, self-published sources are largely considered inappropriate for use unless specific exceptions apply. He's never been judged to meet those exceptions, but the site is still interesting for further reading. As a result, we don't include links to his site in footnotes, but we do list it in the external links section.

In short, I agree with the removal of your addition to M-113 (Michigan highway) unless you can produce different sources, say from local newspapers, to support that information. Unused highways in Michigan, again

According to the way the lead of list of unused highways in the United States is worded, we would only be listing highway segments that were not used for the purpose for which they were built. This would not include previously used segments of highway. Your listing has 18 examples, and the Cadillac, Escanaba, Grayling, Manton, Midland, Montague, New Buffalo, Ontonagon, Osceola County, South Range, Williamsburg and Yuba examples were all formerly in use. That does not leave enough examples for a stand-alone list. Please do not restore a separate list for Michigan. Imzadi 1979 → 12:26, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

The usual guideline for a stand-alone list is 10 entries, so the 6 we'd have for Michigan isn't enough. I've copied a few of the additional ones that weren't in the national list there, but please read the advice above about not trying to list some of the ones you were adding. Otherwise we'd have hundreds, if not thousands, of bypassed road segments and bridges to list, yet all of these were put into use original, so they aren't "unused". Please stop guessing when you make additions to List of unused highways in the United States. Do you have any sources that indicate a freeway extension between that interchange and I-94 in Detroit? If not, you should not add your personal suppositions into a Wikipedia article.

M-58 and M-115

I just made dummy edits to note in the edit history why I reverted your edits to M-58 and M-115. Michigan doesn't observe any rules regarding the number of digits in a state highway number. Two-digit numbers do not have any significance over three-digit numbers when it comes to the non-Interstate/non-US Highways (aka the "M"s). So the fact that M-58 is the shortest two-digit M and M-115 is the longest three-digit M is purely trivia. Additionally, you should know that according to WP:LEAD, we should not be adding any information to the lead section of an article that's not present someplace else in the article. Something of help

There is a project you could do that would be of immense help right now. For every photo used in a Michigan highway or county road article, they should each be tagged with {{USRD|state=MI|class=file}} on the File talk: page. So for example, File:M-1 at I-696.jpg appears on M-1 (Michigan highway), and File talk:M-1 at I-696.jpg has been tagged. (This works even if the file is actually on Commons and not on the English Wikipedia.)

If the photo shows an Interstate Highway, add |type=I, and if it shows a US Highway, add |type=US. In the rare event it shows both, use |type2= for the second type. If it's a county road, use |state=MI-CHTF instead. The banner template is being updated to track photos that haven't been used on P:MISH yet so I that schedule selected photos more efficiently in the future. Imzadi 1979 → 22:43, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

To follow up, I'm unsure why you created that list. I know that Utah has a similar list, but in their case, the individual state routes don't have separate articles. We don't have any external sources grouping these highways together for Michigan, no pattern to numbering them, etc. Without that, there isn't a premise for the scope of the list, and it shouldn't exist on Wikipedia.   • Personally, I wouldn't move it back. When things change names like that, we look to see what sources call it after the change. Since they're using the new name, so should we. • Look, I am at a loss here. You've been here doing exactly what you are doing now for going on TWO YEARS with no improvement. You've clearly got some sort of local bias that you cannot seem to get past. Additionally, you seem incapable of viewing the article as a whole. Stop making up section headers please. It isn't helpful. You've yet to come up with anything that cannot be covered very well using a more standard approach to laying out the article. And when you add something to existing copy, integrate your copy into it in a logical fashion (in prose, that's almost always chronological). Please do not make me take you to a noticeboard. WP:NOTENGLISHCLASS is a shortcut that should link to the appropriate subsection of WP:NOT, a pillar policy. It doesn't. Please read WP:CIR. When the edits you make are continually reverted for the same reasons over and over and you make no effort to approach your editing differently; nor make any effort at self-improvement by utilizing assets like the TEAHOUSE, it certainly applies. I would also add that one needs to be more careful. On further inspection, none of those sources mention that he was elected in 2015 nor that he was the first. The GTCRC source you used doesn't actually establish that M-137 was decommissioned. It's a resolution accepting jurisdiction. The next step is a negotiation between the GTCRC and MDOT over the terms of the actual transfer and then the execution of a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies. Usually there are some financial details to be finalized related to PA 51 funding or even a one-time payment from MDOT to the local agency in lieu of improvements. When M-108 in Mackinaw City was decommissioned, the village and Emmet County made MDOT rebuilt the entire roadway before transferring it. When Bus. US 41 in Marquette was decommissioned in 2005, the city received money from MDOT to do future reconstruction on the roadway after the transfer was finalized.

Once the MoU is signed, that's when jurisdiction transfers. So in short, until MDOT announced it earlier this month, it didn't actually happen yet, so the June resolution doesn't mean what you think it meant.

Additions to List of geographic portmanteaus

You made some great additions to this list. I particularly like the border road additions. I'm sure there are many others out there but they're hard to find. One thing though, I took the liberty of moving the entry for Wahjamega to the List of geographic acronyms and initialisms. That's a list I compiled at the same time as the portmanteau list and Wahjamega fits in there better. It's somewhat arbitrary what names goes in which list, but since that name was composed of three people's initials, it's a much better fit. Great find, though. Keep up the good work! Bingham School (Alpena, Michigan), also is a Bingham School closing in 1982 but gives the address as 555 South 5th Avenue. I have hesitantly marked Marshfield High School (Wisconsin) as reviewed. High schools are no longer automatically assumed to be notable.
