BHA[edit]

I've belatedly noticed that, in this series of edits a month or so ago, you removed a lot of information from the article. Where it was unsourced, or the links were dead, I fully understand why you did that. But elsewhere you seem to have removed information without really explaining why. For instance, I just noticed that under "Distinguished supporters", you removed most from the article, but left a few. My initial reaction - and I suspect that of others as well - was to think "what about X and Y", and then "I should add them". That is less likely to happen if the longer list that was there previously is reinstated. There are also perfectly valid links elsewhere, like this one, that you seem to have removed. I'm not sure why. Regards, Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:20, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing that out, on reflection I'm not certain why I removed the broadcasting section and will reinstate it, though possibly incorporating it somewhere else in the article. As for the distinguished supporters list, I removed that due to considering it too much detail for something entirely dependent on a primary source. Happy to debate that though so I'll post on the talk page regarding it. Samwalton9 (talk) 16:28, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No probs, we can take it up there. Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:32, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ACC[edit]

Samwalton9, thank you for interest in the account creation process. I have verified your Identification here and I have approved your request, welcome to the team. You may now access the interface here. Before you do so, please read the account creation guide and our username policy thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process. You should also join us on IRC #wikipedia-en-accounts connect where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and to get any advice on requests as well as the mailing list. Please note that we have implemented a policy of zero tolerance on mishandled requests, and that failure to assess correctly will result in suspension. I would like to emphasize that it is not a race to complete a request, and each one should be handled diligently and thoroughly. Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day, although you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked "Account Creator Needed" by the bot and "Flagged user needed" on the interface. However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:PERM/ACC. Please keep in mind that the ACC tool is a powerful program, and misuse will result in your access being suspended by a tool administrator. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome!

  • Sorry for the delay, I have approved your email list subscription request, you should of received an conformation email for that. Since you are new to IRC it is recommended you apply for a cloak this will hide personal information (IP and such) usually displayed while logging into the IRC system. Once your cloak is in place, your username+cloak will be entered into the ACC main channel which will allow access. If you have any further problems please contact myself or any tool Admin. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 02:37, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a courtesy message to inform you that Rachit Kapoor has been recreated. You previously voted at the AFD, which I closed early in good faith because the author requested deletion, so it is not subject to speedy deletion. POV tag at James H. Williams, Jr.[edit]

I have removed the POV tag you placed at James H. Williams, Jr., not because I think the article is all right (I simply don't know) but because you have not given any clue about what you think may be wrong. See Template:POV which says "The editor who adds the tag should first discuss concerns on the talk page, pointing to specific issues that are actionable within the content policies, and should add this tag only as a last resort. In the absence of such a discussion, or where it remains unclear what the NPOV violation is, the tag may be removed by any editor.". However, if you'd like to either change the article or comment at Talk:James H. Williams, Jr., that would be very helpful. Best wishes. Thincat (talk) 10:04, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sam, some interesting articles there - err, not sure what Talk:Cheating in online games/Maphack talk marks...also David Jones (video game developer) and Compilation album are still too small - needs to be 1500b prose size each of prose (bulleted sections and lists don't count...)...so are you able to expand them? Cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 13:25, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Talk:Cheating in online games/Maphack talk seems to be an archived talk page for a page that was merged or deleted. There was still a stub tag on it, however, which I removed since it didn't pertain to any existing article. My DYK Check tool is showing that David Jones is 1500+ characters and I don't think it's counting the list. Compilation album, however, is fair, I forgot about lists/bullets not counting. Will take a look about actually expanding that one some point soon. Samwalton9 (talk) 13:30, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for helping and reviewing the page so fast!

Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup![edit]

Hello Samwalton9, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! ^ What's the WikiCup?[edit]

Hey I noticed that you're participating in the WikiCup. Could you briefly explain what it is? I tried reading its page, but it's a little vague. Are you awarded points for articles you write during the event or for articles you've written over the years? Do they all have to be good/great/featured/etc articles, or can you get points for so-so articles? I probably should be asking the judges these questions instead of you... Oops.

Thanks! Bananasoldier (talk) 20:26, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine! Basically it's run in stages between now and the end of the year, and in each stage the top scorers go through. You get points for Good Articles, Featured Articles, Did You Know nominations, and other things listed on the page which have to have been majorly contributed to by you during this year, so the content I've written during 2013 won't count unless I put a lot more effort into it for, for example, a Featured Article nomination :) The table of things you can get points for along with their scores is here. Samwalton9 (talk) 20:34, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh so the objective is to push really hard to write epic articles? Daaaaang. Also, the judges are the ones who rate your epic articles? Or who does? Anyway, thanks for answering my questions! Bananasoldier (talk) 20:40, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not too hard, the contestants might be trying to write more high quality articles but they will still be the need to be the same quality and will have to go through the same (sometimes lengthy!) processes before being graded as Good or Featured for example. The judges just make sure that all the submissions are being submitted by the right users, have been written at the right time, and that there was no rule breaking going on! The grading of articles/pictures/portals/topics as Good or Featured still goes through the same process (WP:GA, WP:FA, etc.) Samwalton9 (talk) 20:52, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks! Bananasoldier (talk) 22:42, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Say you and I are collaborating on Bloons TD and it becomes a good article. Are you allowed to count that? Bananasoldier (talk) 00:09, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I believe so yeah. You should join too if you're interested! You can still enter during this month. Samwalton9 (talk) 00:14, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think I'll try! Although, the most I've written is a C-Class article. Bananasoldier (talk) 00:27, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not too hard, the Good Article criteria seem much more daunting than they actually are. Besides that there are points for Did You Know, and the grade of an article is irrelevant for that! Samwalton9 (talk) 00:31, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable?[edit]

Someone put this ref [1] on the Bloons TD article. Is it reliable? Bananasoldier (talk) 18:57, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Very hard to say. I don't see any evidence of them fitting the reliability criteria so I'm going to say probably not. Samwalton9 (talk) 19:13, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll remove it then. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bananasoldier (talkcontribs) 19:36, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, someone put this ref: Bloons TD5 Deluxe. Are blog posts okay pertaining to release dates? I think this link is dead, anyway.

Bloons TD Refs[edit]

Just out of curiosity, how are you finding the refs for Bloons TD? I've been using Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Sources, and was wondering if there's also anywhere else. Thanks, Bananasoldier (talk) 02:46, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've been using that along with searching the Reliable Sources Noticeboard for websites I'm not sure about, the custom google search found on WP:VG/Sources is very handy too. Other than using that I've just been googling normally so far to be honest; my best advice is to keep going through pages, I found a couple of useful refs at like page 15 of one search! Question[edit]

Hey i am new here and i see on your user page you have dropboxes. Was wondering if you could tell or show me how to get them? Is there a list of other codes? at least i think there called codes. One last thing, i am using a mobile device and cant seem to be able to reply to any diskushions. Ican edit pages and add diskushions but mostly can or dont know how to reply. I notice some pages allkw me to edit others not. So can you teach me how to repy?? (Mudak568 (talk) 14:21, 2 January 2014 (UTC)) Mudak568 (talk) 14:21, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Assuming you're referring to the boxes on the right hand side of my page, they are called Userboxes, and to add them to your userpage you need to add the template code, which looks like this, for example: {{User WPVG}}. That one adds the Wikiproject Video Games box to my page. For a list of available userboxes see Wikipedia:Userboxes/Gallery, or you can create your own! On the mobile interface you should see a little pencil in the top right of this area, alongside the title ("Question"), clicking that will allow you to edit this section of the page. To reply, just type below! If you want to indent your reply so that the page looks tidy, use colons (:) and use as many as are necessary to indent the reply. For example, your reply to me here should have two of them. Lastly, some pages are edit protected with varying levels of protection. The most common requires the user to be Autoconfirmed which occurs after 4 days and 10 edits. I see that you're actually only hours away from being autoconfirmed so you should be able to edit more pages soon. Hope that helps :) Samwalton9 (talk) 14:43, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help :) So this Autoconfirmed thing what actully is it? And other than being able to edit more does it allow you to do anything else? (Mudak568 (talk) 14:54, 2 January 2014 (UTC))[reply]
The link above has more details but it is essentially just a flag on your account to say that you're more trustworthy than someone who isn't logged in to an account or has a very new account. It allows you to Move pages, edit semi-protected articles which have been protected against vandalism, and upload files. It also stops you having to enter captchas for things. Samwalton9 (talk) 14:59, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok Ill take a look at that link :) One more question What is captchas? (Mudak568 (talk) 15:37, 2 January 2014 (UTC))[reply]
Captcha is the thing that requires you to enter some characters to verify that you're human. As far as I know you have it for your first edits and when creating an account as well as some other areas. Samwalton9 (talk) 15:39, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help Sam. I hope you have a good new year and that you are well. :) I manged to put some of those boxes on my page:) How do you make your own ones? (Mudak568 (talk) 17:04, 2 January 2014 (UTC))[reply]
No problem, feel free to message me if you need any more help! There's guidance for creating new userboxes on the page I linked above. Hope you have a good year too.
Hope im not being a pain in ass but What sort of questions can you ask at the referense desk? can you give examples? (Mudak568 (talk) 20:34, 2 January 2014 (UTC))[reply]
Not sure because I've never used it! As far as I can tell it's for anything other than legal or medical advice :) Samwalton9 (talk) 21:15, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes! I remember! For fictional characters, is a "backstory" considered excessive in-universe material? Thanks, Bananasoldier (talk) 17:41, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Is the backstory relevant and discussed in sources which discuss the article you want to write it on? Samwalton9 (talk) 18:00, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The character's backstory relates to his behavior as a villain. It has a few sources. I did not write the backstory, but I am wondering whether it belongs or not. Dr. Doofensmirtz. Bananasoldier (talk) 18:07, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I guess it could fit in in that case. Hard to say without seeing the whole paragraph/article if it fits or not. If it's directly relevant to the characters motivations then I'd think it would be fine. Samwalton9 (talk) 18:09, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bloons TD Add[edit]

Hey! Is there anything you still think we can add to Bloons TD or are we at a "stalemate"? The GAR calls for information on the series' development, but I agree with you in which I can't find anything! :) Bananasoldier (talk) 06:23, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I finally got an email back from the Ninja Kiwi team. They suggest using this [2] as the logo because they recognize the other one as an old logo. However, the image they suggest has the number 5 in it that sort of throws things off to represent the series as a whole. What do you think? I think maybe we should just stick with the logo we have now. Bananasoldier (talk) 06:44, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi :) Sorry I'd have been discussing this and trying to do stuff but I'm in the middle of my exams at the moment! I think we may well be at a stalemate unless we can find offline magazine sources that have talked about Bloons. They may well exist but I couldn't find any in the WP:VG resource search so it's not going to be easy, and I doubt there's much can be done in the space of a GAR so I may ask Chris to fail it for now. It's a shame but I'm still proud of how the article has turned out, it's a million times better than it was! P.S. I prefer the current picture! Samwalton9 (talk) 10:07, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
