Stubs

You are welcome to mark such articles as stubs. However, the entire content of those articles was an external link. This adds nothing, in my opinion, to this encyclopedia, and only encourages the use of Wikipedia as a link farm. Those were probably schools which deserve an article, however I prefer stubs which are actually stubs, meaning that they say something substantial about the subject in at least three sentences. Karla Finnegan

Hi, and sorry but no to the undeletion. If I'm reading the article correctly, it seems to be about an entirely non-notable person and was rightly tagged for deletion. TV credits are non-notable, romance nn, achievements nn, news coverage nn and the rest is waffle and an email address. Far outwith the parameters of WP:BIO which lists the general standards expected of living persons biographies on the English Wikipedia. If there are some truly notable aspects about her that were not originally mentioned, the best thing to be would start from scratch.

Fair warning that recreating the article in its current state would likely lead to a listing on WP:AFD, where the chances are you'd not only have to deal with the article being redeleted, you'd have a fair number of comments highlighting the individuals notability (or lack thereof) to read as well. AFD can be a harsh place and I really wouldn't recommend it. Seems from your contributions that you're finding a number of notable articles to work on, I'd love to see you leave Karla until she meets :BIO and concentrate on other areas for now. The article about Warchaizer, Susan Jill (M.D.) and then subsequently copied by you to Susan Jill Warchaizer is a definite delete. Hi, thank you for your response to my questioning the notability of this subject. My main issue is that I'm a bit dubious about the notability of FAST - Fighting Antisemitism Together, so including someone's biography in Wikipedia solely on the basis of having been one of the founders is even more awkward to me. This article was created 22:50, 14 February 2006 and was deleted 18:44, 26 March 2006. The person who placed the speedy read it as I did. It is a first person account about the interview of the brother Hermano Vázquez Viaña of the article subject Humberto Vázquez Viaña. It has been deleted quite awhile and it fails notability guidelines. If you insist I will restore send it to translation and then it will go up on afd if it remains untranslated for two weeks. Google hits are not the be all and end all of notability (but when they are low, it's usually a sign the article isn't notable). If you have other evidence of notability (such as reporting in reputable mainstream news media), use that. In any case Articles for deletion is not the right place to put this. Try Wikipedia:Deletion review. On the other hand you can recreate the article, but please make sure that it is notable and make it clear (if you just recreate it, it should be significantly different from the original i.e. more references, more claims to notability, etc). • I see you added the template to the talk page for FAST - Fighting Antisemitism Together to show it survived AfD. I see you're also the editor who created the article. I'm happy to see that the article was kept (especially compared to some of the other things that survive AfD), but I think this article needs some serious work so as to satisfy the concerns of those who don't think it's all that notable. You may have noticed that the closing administrator originally deleted it, but had second thoughts[2][3]. It might be helpful if you can use what you know to improve this article so that it doesn't have to go through the AfD process again. Guild for Exceptional Children

Hi - I don't doubt that the Guild for Exceptional Children is notable (I would have prod'd or AfD'd it if I thought it was non-notable). My issue was really just 2 things; the original opening paragraph, which quoted it's claim of being a "leading provider of...", and the listing of services. I have since taken "leading" out of the quote, so I think that's OK now. However I feel that the list of services is a bit over the top. I think it should be pared down a bit - most of the headlines should be removed, and the services perhaps summarized in shorter more general clips - perhaps just a short bulleted list. I'm thinking it could be made to look similar to the United Way article?

First off, speedy deletion does not require consensus. If an article meets a speedy deletion criterion (and this one met two, A7 and G4) then speedy deletion can and should be performed whether the article has all "Keep" votes or all "Speedy delete" votes. While perhaps the Canary Islands are underrepresented on the English Wikipedia, the article was nonetheless about a tour guide who feel from a cliff and died. People die every day, and each person who has died should not be included on Wikipedia (Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information). Similarly, being a tour guide does not make him notable, nor does running a minor company that ran (runs?) tours in the Canary Islands. I welcome you to bring up the matter at deletion review, but it will not succeed. —Cuiviénen 19:08, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for dropping a note on my Talkpage. Since the only article I've ever put a prod tag on is Tony Grove I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you were referencing that article. I ran a Google search on the author but got no relevant hits except for our own brief mention of him on WP. While I strongly favor improving articles rather than deleting them, I just couldn't see how in this case. I asked an Admin for advice and since the subject appears non-notable and it seemed unlikely that I could add any more info, I went ahead with the prod. If I've missed a possibility or you think I can do more, please let me know. I'm eager to improve Wikipedia, and I know that the best way to do that is to improve my own skills. I have to concur with NMChico24 here. I've had a couple of speedy tags removed from you in the last day or so and I just assumed it was an admin decision, but now I see it's not. Can you explain why you think that changing something from {{db-bio}} to something like {{subst:prod|nn-model}} is necessary? I agree that Professor Naghdi was very notable. It is my understanding of copyvio that the copyvio section has to go and cannot remain in history. Userfying biographies

When you userfy a biography like you did with User:Brutalforcekhamelion and User:Biggiea, please move the page rather than simply copying and pasting the article. Moving it preserves the history of the article which is necessary under the GFDL. By copying and pasting it, it loses the history and list of contributors--on their pages it appears as if you're the only contributor to that biography.

Also, when doing this, make sure there's a reasonable belief that the user is the subject of the biography. For example, why did you move Frank Garvey to User:Erin steel? I was the one that tagged that for speedy deletion and I don't remember anything in particular that suggested Erin steel is Frank Garvey. Metros232 01:07, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, this makes sense, except that sometimes it's not obvious that a potential speedy deletion will in fact be deleted, and moving rather than copying might cause more confusing.

I think that User:Erin steel created Frank Garvey, and where the names don't match I am careful to say "copying (or moving) biography page to userpage" rather than using the term "autobiography". If I got mixed up and User:Erin steel was not the creator of Frank Garvey, then that userpage should probably be deleted or be edited down to the userpage tag to avoid confusing the user. Okay, if an article is going to stay in the project space it doesn't need to exist in the user space like that. If it does wind up getting deleted, then the user who the article was about could request to have it restored and put into their user page.

The same goes for the article about Frank Garvey. If User:Erin steel wanted the page restored, s/he could have requested it. It's really odd to move an article like that if the article isn't about the user. Users always have the option of WP:Deletion Review or they could talk to an administrator about it. You don't need to copy and paste articles that are bound for deletion in order to preserve them. The closing administrator on the speedy deletion will make the decision if it should be userfied or not. (And they generally do a good job with that, I've notice a few cases of ones I tagged that were userfied in cases I didn't realize were vanity). Metros232 01:39, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

I do not know if it meets CORP. I interpret CORP more strictly than you do, for sure, so don't mind me and do your thing. You may freely recreate the article because there has been no AfD and therefore no consensus that this is NN. Last deletion was in 2005, and in any event, just put on the talk page that the new version has nothing to do with the old ones. I suggest you round up some 'independent sources' before you create. AeroPress

The author, or yourself, is more than welcome to recreate the article, add something more somewhat more substantial than "cool coffee machine," and run with that. I won't delete it reflexively again, but as it stood, it was not even stubworthy. The links I checked that came out of the Aerobie article about Alan Adler made no referene to the AeroPress, which also added to my decision. Because I knew the article Matteo Rosselli which was written by Kpirouz was likely to be deleted, I copied the text from the article to the page User:Kpirouz so that the user would have access to the text. 1) User pages are not a Wikipedia form of MySpace.

2) Cutting-and-pasting violates the GFDL.

• There's also a longstanding policy that Wikipedia is not a free webhost. Allowing vanity articles to remain in the userspace when the user in question has no other contributions makes it look like self-promotion is acceptable in the userspace when it's not. • 2) In general, I wish that people would not delete articles for speedy-deletion quite so quickly so that the writer gets a chance to post a hangon message. And I wish for a pony, but I'm likely to get that, either. In any case, it's not your problem -- but if you want it to be your problem, take some responsibility and put in the hangon message yourself, like you're actually supposed to. And, more to the point, moving by cutting-and-pasting violates the GFDL.
• 3) Could I ask, though, that if you see an autobiographical article that doesn't belong in the encyclopedia, that you consider moving it to the author's user page rather than speedy-deleting it outright? Railways

I fixed the railway signalling entry, which was obviously written by a Brit and had nothing about North American ABS and CTC systems and very little about train order systems (which were just on the way out at CP when I started). Maybe we can get a shot of the all-Canada CTC system set up in Calgary just before I left. When I get time, I'll write about the difference between CTC in double-track and multi-track systems (i.e. in the transcontinental vs. the Corridor in Canada).

I had already fixed the entry on CP some months ago but it still needs serious work. I did some fixes on the history this weekend. Right now, my major problems with it lie in the repetition of quite a bit of material, especially about passenger trains, though the entry. How technical should this be? Should there be material re: the switch from steam to diesel? Modern innovations like CTC traffic control, the switch to continuous welded rail? The safety issues that came up after the Mississauga run-off of 1980?Arthur Ellis 12:10, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I wanted to check if you feel my most recent version of the Niederhoffer article seems ok to you? I dug through the history of the article, and a few books and online articles and feel I have recreated it in a way that is respectful to prior contributors, and does not violate copyright rules. You're thinking of the AfD process, where the AfD notice should not be removed before the end of the AfD discussion. Proposed deletions are different, and I was behaving properly when I removed the proposed deletion notice. Here are the instructions relating to proposed deletions, as they appear at the top of Category:Proposed deletion as of 9 August 2006.

Anyone can remove the prod template at any time if they disagree with the deletion to stop the process. Only uncontroversial articles may be deleted using proposed deletion. Do not re-list an article if someone have removed the prod template, instead list it on WP:AFD and seek a consensus to delete it.

userfication

Looks like Calton is watching you as well. By all means carry on userfying but please use move not copy and paste. Eg. move Elaine Hoekstra to User:Biggiea. This provides the vital audit trail of what article it was created at and by whom. (In the case of this example I had to hunt around to find where the article had originated, if you had used "move", all would have been clear.)

The move will create a redirect at Elaine Hoekstra which needs to be deleted - use {{db|now userfied}} or simply {{db-author}} - the redirect has your name on it, so the db-author rules apply without question!

Another reason for using "move" is that the article remains in the original author's contributions record, so that in theory they can find where it has gone. But not all newbies know about "my contributions" so it is a courtesy to leave a note on user talk:Biggiea. Even if this was only a stub, it needs to show some notability. The article did not and did not seem likely to. You can recreate the article when you think you have a enough material to show that it is notable. Be aware that most malls will be deleted in AfD since they are not notable. PC-Doctor article

I appreciate your removal of the CSD, but could use some guidance on what re-writing you feel is necessary. I used Symantec and Microsoft articles as guides, kept the text factual, and replaced links to the corporate Web site with links to Wikipedia articles, many of which I still need to write.

OK, you're right on a technicality. But this really lowers the bar. If she's notable enough, then I know at least 100 people personally who are even more notable - they run bigger, older, more established and widespread non-profits, and do so for longer. I don't want to sound disrespectful to you, but if you'd worked in non-profits as long as I have, you'd recognize what small potatoes she is. Just to make it clear...

I'm not in the GNAA anymore. I left them some months ago and I don't look forward to rejoin the organization in the near future. Since the GNAA was dying for real when I left, I don't think I'll have any opportunity to rejoin even if I wanted to, before they disappear. My recent edits in the "War on Blogs" page are just a little troll at their address and nothing else. I know for sure the that "War on Blogs" will never resume. A certain peruvian psycho may be part of the reason.

In short, my little "War on Biodiesel" is not a troll and I didn't troll on wikipedia in ages anyway, so don't bother stalking me to try to get a clue about what the GNAA may be up to. I'm not with them anymore.

That said I would like to invite you and other wikipedians to crack down more effectively on "free energy" or "near free energy" claims, as such things do not exist. Science says so and people that says otherwise are scammers. Wikipedia is already full of fringe statements injected into many pages by people with a clear political/religious agenda, like the claims that circumcised males can't get HIV and many others alike.

Lately I requested the deletion of some poorly written, short or about a non notable subject pages because they contain the word "biodiesel" and I did that in an effort to reduce spam. In some cases I removed some out of context citations. Check this out and see on how many pages that particular word is still spammed on.

I'm an uneducated bum and I know my english skills are poor, but I hope you understand my reasons.

Rosencomet is a director of the new age Starwood Festival [5] and most of the people she has written about are guest speakers at the festival, so I'm a bit concerned about impartiality in the biographies and being able to verify their notability. I GIVE UP!

Despite the support it received, the Orkney Portal has been deleted.

I have tried to contribute articles on topics about which I have knowledge, such as Orkney, but the articles have been subjected to constant destructive editing, and I have been subjected to repeated harassment, mainly by Mais oui!, that I see no point in continuing.

Hi TbT! Not as the article stood, no. As it stood it was CSD-A1, A3 and A7: No context, no content and no assertion of notability.

Articles on Wikipedia must assert notability for their subject. In other words, an article could be about the most famour person in the world, but if it didn't say why, out the door it goes.

This article consisted of the guy's name, his year of birth and the fact he had a brother. A1, 3 and 7 encapsulated.

But by all means create an article about the guy! I haven't salted the earth against it or anything (and G4 doesn't really apply to speedy deletes). Just don't create the one that was there - it wasn't an article.

Rewrites

How quickly can you respond to a request for a rewrite? Sometimes people just paste an article in without regard for the copyright infringement. If the creator won't fix it, we have to rewrite it or delete it. If you can fix the copyright problem as you did with Project Syndicate we gain anarticle and lose a problem. OK, I've reviewed them all. There are only two deletes — both from the same Olympiakos team. Both articles were reasonable speedy candidates as notability was not clear from the articles, though both subjects might be notable.
