I've noticed links to ifood.tv popping up here and there. In most cases, by spot checking, I found the links added by IP users mapping to India. (Look for 122. IPs). I'm not entirely convinced that this is spam ... well ... it's spam, but it's borderline useful content as opposed to merely being a link aggregator or trying to push a commercial product. Maybe I'll be more dogmatic tomorrow, but I thought I would post it here first to see if anyone has a strong opinion one way or the other on removing the links. --B 02:33, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dirk - did this get monitored? There doesn't seem to be a COIBot report, but a link was added on October 24 2007 ([1]). -- SiobhanHansa 16:18, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Public-access television

This may be a bit off-topic here. The last half of the public-access television article is a large directory of external links to various stations. It ends with about a screenfull of what appears to be indiscriminate links. The page "owner" seems to want to protect things as they are (and is a founder of one or more of the stations listed), but I haven't pushed too hard. How do other editors perceive this article with respect to various linking policies? Burlywood 21:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From taking a quick look, that last half of the article seems to clearly fall under WP:NOT#REPOSITORY and WP:NOT#DIRECTORY per official policy. If the individual is connected with the stations then there may be a conflict of interest, and certainly WP:OWN, if there are claims of ownership being made. I think your concerns are quite valid. Seems there is much work to be done to make it more encyclopedic.--Hu12 (talk) 22:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have followed up on Hu12's tagging, I have removed all external links, mainly per the two cited parts of the WP:NOT policy, I removed all because all seem to fail WP:EL. Any attempt at reversion is a clear policy violation, and deserves a firm (final?) warning. --Dirk Beetstra T C 22:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A classic Spam Event Horizon--Hu12 (talk) 00:23, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I notice the article in its present state is unreferenced, and one or two of the deleted links might possibly be useful as references. I'm not sure about the list of stations; if we deleted that, we should at least link to a suitable external source for such a list. DGG (talk) 04:07, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
External links != references. If they are needed, they can be pulled from the article history. There is no need to link directly to the radio/tv stations, or they could e.g. be included in a [[list of radio stations by <your company name here>]] (or a category), where wiki-links to the articles of the radio stations are collected. We are not a directory. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why does the wikilink not work? --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dirk, I am not disagreeing, except that a usable ref can sometimes be found in something originally presented as an external link. DGG (talk) 22:31, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This IP added one external link to the document (using two edits; diff). The page linked to:

This was just a simple spam/coi case. I removed the links and gave the editor a uw-coi notice along with links to to WP:EL, WP:SPAM, and WP:NOT#LINK. Then another editor got involved, reverting my link removals, questioning if they are actually spam. I started a discussion Talk:Qualitative_research#Stustu12.27s_external_links, which has only escalated, as has my initial notice User_talk:Stustu12#Conflict_of_interest. Juicy spam

Hi, all. If this isn't the right place for this... I'd be happy to take it where it belongs. I have been removing some spam (and leaving some spam that I wasn't sure about) from the external links section of Juicer. Now I have a user with one edit asking me why I deleted his links and left other spammy links in there (on my talk page). Could someone please check out the external links section of Juicer and give me an honest take on the links there? I'm not sure which (if any) are salvageable. If you go through the history, you should see pretty quick what has been going on. Thanks. -- Swerdnaneb 22:02, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Potential Investigative Tools

User A. B. has suggested I repeat an offer I made to him here, so I am reposting my original message:

With ref to your AN post, I have no idea if it will help but I have two possibly relevant tools I can offer.
One - wpW5 - will search article history and tell you when a piece of text (ie. a link) was added and who added it. It takes about 30 seconds in "quick" mode.
The other - lkScan - will search a user's entire contribs and compile every web link they've added to any article and put them into a sortable format.
Maybe these could help you figure out the whole scope of the problem? Let me know if you think they could help. Franamax (talk) 02:49, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

where can we get these tools? βcommand 02:42, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sure, use the e-mail listed at the top of my userpage. βcommand 02:51, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Files sent direct from my gmail account. Of course, since you're in Micronesia I assume they will take 2 weeks to get there by boat:) Franamax (talk) 03:31, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
where did Micronesia come from? βcommand 03:32, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
TLD of your email address? Ha, maybe I sent them to someone completely different! Franamax (talk) 03:35, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
that is just my host not where I live :) βcommand 03:36, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And that is a "straight line" in the comedic sense if I ever heard one! Must - suppress - sarcastic - rejoinder ;) Franamax (talk) 03:42, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
