Hi, interested in reviewing this biography of a South African politician and statesman of yesteryear?Michel Doortmont (talk) 13:28, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't know if this is your subject or not but hoping to get a peer review of the article on Desmond Tutu which I've been working on. Some input would be really appreciated if you have time. Thanks. --Cazo3788 (talk) 17:07, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I put this article up for peer review and was wondering whether you could help me pinpoint the spots that need sources and the spots that are pure OR and need to be removed, any help with locating sources would be greatly appreciated, thanks.--The Dominator (talk) 02:36, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and no problem, if you ever find anything then feel free to e-mail me (I should have the feature activated) or maybe even just drop it on my talk page if it's not too long. I'll try to look for some sources, but like you said, the release date poses a problem and there aren't many reliable sources out there that cover Reservoir Dogs, most of them seem fan-based, not to mention the Reservoir Dogs article itself consisted of 80% unreferenced trivia a few weeks ago and it's difficult to build an article based on that. I would be very grateful if you would be able to find something, thanks in advance!--The Dominator (talk) 07:03, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all of those, hopefully I'll get around to improve that article within the next few days, I want to take it straight to FA without stopping at GA. The Dominator (talk) 05:18, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A request for the future

I know you're busy, but this actually isn't a request for right now.

I've just finished the major work on Indonesian occupation of East Timor (1975-1999), probably my most important (and exhausting) Wikipedia work to date. Once it's reached GA status, I'll be soliciting peer reviews, so I thought I'd ask early so you can either put it on your schedule or let me find backups. =) Cheers. – Scartol • Tok 01:40, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, it's a GA, and I've submitted it for review at MilHist A-Class review. When you have some time, I'd love to get your take on it. Cheers! – Scartol • Tok 16:48, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

question

Do you actually believe you know better what I want to say than I do myself? User:Dorftrottel 20:24, February 19, 2008

Just in case you feel like needlessly derailing and discrediting me some more in the wrong venue without any problem-oriented arguments, I recommend a bolded link to my block log. Example: See also Dorftrottel's block log. Just like anything else you posted there, it will not help the discussion move forward in the least, but it will make you cool. User:Dorftrottel 21:17, February 19, 2008
Another thing. What really stumps me is how you focused on my first posting in that section. Did you not see the second? It's far far worse. User:Dorftrottel 23:15, February 19, 2008

Sorry for being a bit bitey. It's just, I think cursing is harmless and I can relate to people who do it like Seresin in that diff presented at his RfA. There's far worse things imo. User:Dorftrottel 23:52, February 19, 2008

I completely agree that DGG is one of the most competent and friendliest editors around, sorry to give a different impression than that. I've regularly gone to DGG for advice in regards to AFDs, deletion v. inclusion etc. Calling him an "inclusionist" I don't believe would be considered an insult to David. If so, I'll apologize to him as well. That being said, I believe Dorftrottel has many valid points (with a much more upfront way of saying them, true) and he is too easily disregarded because of the "flavour" of his posts instead of the content, which is usually spot on in my experience. Again, sorry to mislead. I think just looking at DGG's talkpage and archives would suffice to make anyone believe that he is valued around here, including by me (and probably Dorftrottel, though I hesitate to speak for anyone else). Keeper, I understood what you said in the positive way it was intended. My appreciation to you and to Jay. And to anyone at all who points out my mistakes to me--and, for the record, Dorf was polite about it. DGG (talk) 02:43, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great Scott!

Hi, Jay, thanks for the belated but much appreciated congratulations. Don't think I've forgotten your help during the dark (and cute and fuzzy) days of Knut's FAC; any assistance you need I'll be glad to give! Us librarians really come in handy. I didn't know that Fitz's article was so skimpy, and Hemingway, although a GA, has always been a mess. Bleh. I must say that I'm a bigger fan of Hemingway's work than I am Fitzgerald's, but Ernest and his many-toed cats irk me in a way that Fitz and his crazy wife don't. Funny that you pick two alcoholics as future projects; it's good to know that I'm not the only one drawn to researching eccentrics. :) Speaking of eccentrics, Roger asked me to help with Arthur Rimbaud, but that's probably going to be long term. In the short term I have Stephen Crane and Bob Marshall on my plate. It should be a lucrative spring if I don't get burned out! María (habla conmigo) 19:00, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited!

New York City Meetup

Next: Sunday March 16th, Columbia University area
Last: 1/13/2008
This box: view  talk  edit

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, and have salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).

Well also make preparations for our exciting Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, a free content photography contest for Columbia University students planned for Friday March 28 (about 2 weeks after our meeting).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

You're also invited to subscribe to the public Wikimedia New York City mailing list, which is a great way to receive timely updates.
This has been an automated delivery because you were on the invite list. BrownBot (talk) 02:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments regarding the Marsden story. As for the thread, I don't blame anyone; I just prefer to remove commentary when it gets long and off-topic, because it makes it hard for me to browse through the various stories there. I have no problem with anything you've done or said on the tip line. Ral315 (talk) 23:28, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfB

Hi, Jay. Thanks for responding on my talk page; I really appreciate that. I'm not certain as to why there is a focus on the term "mailing list." I don't know of any mailing list. Every once in a while I'm copied on an e-mail sent to a bunch of people. Sometimes the e-mails are from Jay, sometimes they are from others. Who is copied on the e-mails depends on the topic. Florence, Cary, or Mike, for example, often copy OTRS volunteers with admin privs for BLP articles under lockdown. Other than wiki-en-l, accounts-en-l, unblock-en-l, and otrs-en-l and wikiquality, I'm on no wiki-related mailing lists, official or unofficial (and note all the ones I am on are all official - with the only closed ones being unblock and OTRS, because we often get real-life names and addresses and such that should not be public). Maybe I am completely wrong, and I would appreciate being corrected if so, but I believe John was as interested in what Jay does as what I have done, if not more so, and was hoping that I would implicate Jay in some scheme. Jayjg is a very polarizing figure on en-wiki. Some people love him, and some people hate him, and others love to hate him (I know of no one who hates to love him . He has gotten himself involved in loads of wikidrama, and has become the focus of the enmity of many people. Need I refer to hivemind and wikipedia review? On the one hand, I feel badly that anyone, be it Jay or Kelly Martin (for an example of the other extreme) has to have their wiki-related activities under such scrutiny and enmity. On the other hand, I believe they all had a significant share in bringing it upon themselves. There are plenty of people on wiki who have different viewpoints and upbringings who can still work cordially together, if not amicably. I have co-mentored difficult editors with Fayssal, even though I am an American Jew and he is a Moroccan Muslim. He is one of the people on wiki which I respect the most, notwithstanding the differences in our upbringings. I am very gratified by and appreciative of NSH001's comments on the RfB, which allow me to think that the tightrope I try to walk is recognized by others. Back to that e-mail, my comments on the list specifically were not a defense or accusation of the e-mail—they were an explanation for my actions and why I thought they were appropriate per wiki guideline and policy notwithstanding the immediate cause of my clicking on the page. If you look at my edit history, you will find something like 260+ edits on that page and another 90+ on its talk, most way before the e-mail. Whether that e-mail in and of itself was appropriate--well, it was not the best thing Jay has ever done, I concur. Why I was copied? Likely because I have 350+ edits on that topic, am familiar with it, and have edited it before. But I am no more responsible for Jay's actions than you are for my actions. Furthermore, I am not naïve enough to think that Jay is the only person ever to have contacted another editor about an article or prospective edits via e-mail. I am not certain that is something that we can control, for better or for worse. As I said, in my mind, the only issue that should have been being discussed at my RfB was if *I* could be trusted as a 'crat, and whether or not *I* am subject to influences unwelcomed by the community. I believe I am not, and so do others. If John does not wish to believe so, that is his choice and I respect that. But using my RfB as a vehicle to discuss Jay is no more appropriate than people using Riana's RfB (which I supported) to discuss Kelly Martin. Thank you very much for discussing this, and I'd be glad to talk further if you wish. -- Avi (talk) 04:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review idea

Hi, I have made a proposal that no peer review request be archived without some response. To aid in this, there is a new list of PR requests at least one week old that have had no repsonses beyond a semi-automated peer review. This list is at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog.

There are just over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, so I figure if each of these volunteers reviewed just one or two PR requests without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog (as there have been 2 or 3 such unanswered requests a day on average).

If you would be able to help out with a review or two a month from the "no responses" backlog list that would be great (and much appreciated). Please discuss questions, comments, or ideas at the PR talk page and thanks in advance for your help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Jackson Davis

An editor has nominated Jackson Davis, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jackson Davis and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:00, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
