On June 15, 2013, the Quaid-e-Azam Residency (Template:Lang-urQāʾid-e Aʿẓam Rẹziḋinsī) was targeted with rockets. Militants belonging to the Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility.[2] It was completely burnt down as a result of the intense attack.[3] On the same day, another terrorist incident also occurred in Balochistan, targeting female university students.

Attack

Militants attacked the residency with hand grenades in the wee hours of June 15, destroying the historical monument where the Founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah spent his last two months and ten days. Three rockets were fired from unknown location.[4] A policeman identified as Muhammad Tahir Jan was killed in the attack. Four militants on two motorcycles entered the residency and hurled hand held bombs.[1]

The wooden structure of the building was set ablaze due to the attack and fire-brigades had to be called in from Quetta. The fire was extinguished after a four-hour-long struggle, though the building had got completely burned down.[5][6]

Bomb disposal squad defused six more bombs planted inside the residency. Each bomb weighed 2 to 3 kilograms.[7] The militants escaped unhurt from the spot.[1]

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told National Assembly on Saturday that the attackers of the Quaid-e-Azam residency in Ziarat removed the Pakistan flag and replaced it with the flag of the BLA.

Investigations

The interior minister Nisar Ali Khan presented the initial investigation report of the attack in the National Assembly of Pakistan on the same day. He reported that there was firing and five explosions at the Quaid-e-Azam residency at approximately 1:15 AM.
