:There was nothing on the talk page indicating that the prod was contested. This is the talk page for Miniapolis, who is proud to be a Wikipedia editor. Although I can be reached by email, I prefer keeping discussions on-wiki as much as possible. Due to time constraints, I no longer accept direct copyedit requests; please list articles requiring copyediting for GAN, FAC and the like on the Guild of Copy Editors request page (and consider pitching in with the GOCE, which can always use more help!).

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Joker (comics) may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. Backlog drive

Hello Miniapolis,

WikiProject Orphanage is holding a month long Backlog Elimination Drive to de-orphan articles which have orphan tags!
The goal is to eliminate the backlog of orphan articles. There are currently 54956 articles which have orphan tags. The drive is running from April 12, 2014 to May 12, 2014.

Awards will be given out for all editors participating in the drive in the form of barnstars at the end of the drive. To add your name in the participants list click here.
So start de-orphaning articles! Click here to see the list of articles need de-orphaning. Visit Suggestions for how to de-orphan an article to know more!

Sorry to nag but in British English you would capitalise titles when they refer to the Queen and as the Govenor is the representative of the Queen and as such is capitalised. Similarly Government, Chief Executive etc would be capitalised in British English as they represent Her Majesty. WCMemail 21:41, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
WP:JOBTITLES. Miniapolis 22:22, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging me [2] via Marshal's talk page for a passive-aggressive insult was a bit of a WP:DICKish move on your part. I apologise if you think I was being "annoying" or "irksome", for the record I was actually going to compliment the work you'd done in improving the article. I have to say you have better writing skills than I have, however, there are differences in British English where you made a mistake and I was trying to help by pointing it out.

or

is correct but

is wrong

Probably an over-reaction on my part to revert you, for which I apologise, I guess we can all get a bit WP:DICKish at times. I note that you corrected folkright as well, so again maybe I should have been a little slower there with the undo button as my revert put back a mistake there.

If you delve deeper into WP:JOBTITLES you will note Honorifics and styles of nobility should normally be capitalized, e.g. Her Majesty, His Holiness. (capitalised in British English FYI). As a handy reference [3]. A rather irritating quirk of British English is that titles such as Governor are usually capitalised since the Governor is the representative of the sovereign, equally it is Her Majesty's Government or simply Government.

Please don't assume I'm looking over your shoulder being "picky" or trying to take over your copy editing role, I was genuinely trying to help. WCMemail 23:14, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I know our intentions are the same (to improve the article). All the best, Miniapolis 23:26, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have restored the edit I reverted and just fixed it as I should have done in the first place. Apologies again, its a pet peeve of mine and I probably over-reacted. Sorry we got off on the wrong foot. WCMemail 23:28, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No apology needed, and since I'm an American I appreciate your minimising my mangling of British English :-). All the best, Miniapolis 23:32, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad the differences were cleared. It can be difficult to fully express our feelings through text, but we all have good intentions. [:)]
To answer your question, everyone is going to be looking over your shoulder at the article (that is, everyone that has it on their watchlist). It's a very controversial article. I say be bold and do what you have to do, but don't be surprised if you run into any kind of walls.
But WCM and other good contributors in the article can be of help. Again, I'm glad you amended any possible confusions.
Thank you very much for taking on the difficult task.
Best regards.--MarshalN20 Talk 00:09, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

April–May newsletter error

I see you're manually fixing these errors. Would you like me to run a script to fix them? AGK [•] 18:37, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yes please; I didn't know that was possible, and I sure as hell don't know how to do it :-). I'm in the middle of a copyedit from the GOCE requests page, and doing the corrections manually is time-consuming. The mailing list is here. Got it. I'll take care of this tonight, and let you know when it's all fixed. And I've been too busy to take part in the last few drives, so don't mention it (or consider this my penitence) :-). AGK [•] 18:52, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You can't stop me from giving credit where it's due :-), and the beauty of Wikipedia is that all our skill sets complement each other's. Please don't rush with this; most of the pages I saw didn't have any posts after this one (yet), and that's when the problem becomes obvious (unfortunately, it was undetectable in preview mode). My pleasure :-). There are several kicking around, but I used User:Timotheus Canens/massedit.js. To install, just add it to your .js user page (in the same format as in here), then navigate to Special:MassEdit. It's quite powerful, so use cautiously. Hope this helps! need help

I am needing help with a situation where I have been doing a major copyedit at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ink_Master_(season_4)

I have been putting up the GOCEinuse tag to prevent edit conflicts from other editors. Now today a user https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Hullaballoo_Wolfowitz has called our GOCEinuse tag "a rag"

Perhaps glance over the page history and you will see what has happened. I put in a request at page protection, but I cannot think of anything else to do. I really don't want my major copyediting work of or the past day or so to be trashed. The article looks much better than when I started. Do you know an admin that I could ask for help? I don't remember for sure if you are one or not. Thanks. Please try to help me save the work that has been done on the article.

Thanks! Carriearchdale (talk) 03:25, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I would remove the GOCE template and take a 24-hour (or longer) break from the article to gain some perspective and allow each of you to calm down a bit. Then come back, try to re-read the whole article with fresh eyes, and see if it's worth continuing to work on. If the other editor appears to be editing actively, continue your break until that editor moves on to something else. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:58, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting here first, Jonesey. Ah, the irresistible force meets the immovable object. Feels like Monday :-). I'm familiar with HW as one of our more combative editors; Carrie, with all the pages that need copyediting it's not worth the effort (and the time) fighting over this one. In the meantime, I'll ping HW (adding to their humongous, unarchived talk page; I gave up trying to find a thread where you'd contacted them). Good luck and all the best, Miniapolis 14:03, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Carrie, I didn't see anything from you on HW's talk page except an ANI notification from last month; SOP in disputes about editor behavior is to contact them on their talk page first. All the best, Miniapolis 14:17, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Miniapolis,

Thanks for taking the time to look over this incident. I do not take the time to post anything on the HW talk after a month or so ago when I took him to ani. At that time I did follow what you call sop and tried to discuus a matter with him there. Every time I posted a note he reverted my post. The only one he did not revert was the notice for ani I posted there. And then he accused me of edit warring his talk page when I was trying to discuss a matter with him. After HW was warned back then he stayed away from me and my daily volunteer work here. For some reason yesterday he showed back up following from article to article I was working on reverting or undoing many of my edits. You are right about that one as being combative!

Thanks for looking it over and Ty to Jonesy as well!

I hope you all will have a most fabulous day!!! ciao!!! Carriearchdale (talk) 14:37, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Miniapolis. You have new messages at Hullaballoo Wolfowitz's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
(edit conflict)No problem, Carrie. I didn't know when I first replied that you two seem to rub each other the wrong way for some reason. That sometimes happens, and it's probably best to stay out of each other's way (at least for now). HW can be brusque, but they've been around for a long time and it's a good idea to listen to what they're saying; just turn a deaf ear to how they may be saying it. People don't often realize how what they type appears to the recipient. All the best, Miniapolis 15:37, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not "for some reason". It's because I caught "Carrie" committing gross, inexcusable BLP violations in two articles and repeatedly reinserting them until I took her to ANI. And she now complains about being persecuted by The Big Bad Wolfowitz whenever I attempt to deal with her substandard edits and inappropriate behavior. Reply to your previous comments on my talk page. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 16:23, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your talk-page reply. Believe me, I see their tendentiousness too; my point is that while it's easier to dispute another's edits in edit summaries, it's more constructive to do so on their talk page (which I see you've done). All the best, Miniapolis 16:40, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For the record

hw has been warned in the past regarding his interactions with me. Just a few of the statements hw is making around wikipedia: "Carrie Archdale" has a well-established track record of disruptive editing and retaliatory, groundless complaints. Indulging such behavior only promotes further disruption" [4]

WRONG - hw has some weird obsessive interest in harassing me and stalking around from article to article and trying to kick up a big disturbance. hw is quite tendentious is his editing on wikipedia himself. See here:

"put the notification template on the reported editors talk page, even though when I did only that before, I was accused of edit warring on the reported users talk page, and accused of repeatedly re-posting the same info on said page after the editor himself reverted the notices each time I placed another one. (placed as the personal attacks went on) As the personal attacks went on I posted on the offenders talk page templates to please stop a couple of times. You certainly can go back through the history and diffs at that talk page if you like, or for my and your convenience I kept a log of everything that I posted on that talk page." [5]

I agree Miniapolis, it is more constructive to dispute another's edits on their talk page.

Have a wonderful Tuesday! ciao!!! Carriearchdale (talk) 05:52, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Carrie, you haven't been actively editing for that long (although when I was a noob, I sure didn't know my way to ANI :-)) and as a GOCE coordinator I remember your recent problems there. I don't think HW is out to "get" you, but WP has editing standards which you can ignore at your peril. Please read (and heed) WP:BLP and WP:IDHT; your editing borders on the tendentious. GOCEreviewed template and elimination drive "scoring"

I just spent 2 hours explaining on the "Talk" page of a 344-word article (Talk:Pipe industry of Russia#GOCE Copy Edit request) why a {{GOCEreviewed}} template got stuck on the article. In this case, the rule

Do not list articles on which you have placed {{GOCEreviewed}}...they don't count

doesn't seem fair. I'm taking credit for the article; yell at me later if you like.

[I'm writing here because I just noticed that the person who requested the review is very active on the Drive's "Talk" page]

--LukasMatt (talk) 09:05, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to make sense of all this. First of all, {{GOCEreviewed}} goes on the talk page, not the article page. The restriction on not counting articles you've tagged with {{GOCEreviewed}} does not apply if you later do a proper copyedit; in practical terms, the "proper copyedit" bar is higher for request articles. Judging by the article history you didn't do that, so I don't know why you marked the article "Done" on the requests page. IMO, the only valid reason for using {{GOCEreviewed}} (and I use it fairly often) is if the article may later be deleted; the template has an "issues" parameter, which should be used. This page recently survived a deletion discussion (AFD is not cleanup), and I agree with DThomsen8's copyedit request; let's face it, some articles are more valuable than others and this is one of them. Copyediting is not GA review; we clean up the prose and fix whatever else we can, rather than leaving a laundry list on the talk page for the article creator(s). While you're free to skip copyediting an article of course, it's disruptive to accept a copyedit request, then refuse it for invalid reasons and mark the article "Done". WP is not a battleground. All the best, Miniapolis 13:32, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, we count full articles and their words (unless they're tagged with {{copyedit-section}}), not abandoned copyedits. Miniapolis 13:46, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Come on, Miniapolis--I expected better from you. I do NOT agree with the copyedit request. I work VERY hard when I perform a copy edit (see Talk:Murder of Shanda Sharer#GOCE Copy Edit request from the current drive and Talk:Angkor I#Copy Edit Request / Talk:Angkor I#Copy Edit Request (part 2) from the previous blitz). Why should I work so hard when the article's author has barely made an effort?
I had a similar problem with an article during the previous blitz that left me with two impressions:
  1. Such "lazy" people who request a copy edit are looking for someone else to do their work;
  2. Interestingly enough, the "problem" requester from the blitz was also "active" on Wikipedia tasks.
Did you look at my comments on Talk:Pipe industry of Russia#GOCE Copy Edit request?
  1. Dthomsen8 can't even write a proper citation...and Dthomsen8 is a reviewer for the May 2014 Drive?#@!
  2. Dthomsen8 can't write a coherent 344-word article...and Dthomsen8 is a reviewer for the May 2014 Drive?#@!
  3. Dthomsen8 wrote on the request for Wikipedia:GOCE/REQ#Pipe_industry_of_Russia, "This is the first time I have made a request here"......and Dthomsen8 is a reviewer for the May 2014 Drive?#@!
You're right--there's a lot to make sense of here.
--LukasMatt (talk) 14:06, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear, I did not write this article, I did not significantly update it, and you should not call me a "problem" requester. I have never done a copyright request before, and I see I am still pretty far down on the learning curve. --DThomsen8 (talk) 14:51, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Then, why did you submit a copy edit request for it? It's a complete crap article. Why should I or any other competent editor waste our time on such an article, especially when its author doesn't care enough to put effort into it?
...and to Miniapolis, you should learn to distinguish between "abandoning a copy edit request" and putting 110% effort into rejecting a request. I work just as hard on a rejection as on a copy edit request that I complete. As I previously wrote to you, I spent 2 HOURS rejecting the Pipe industry of Russia request, including lots of research on the topic and reading the article's markup code and finding appropriate Wiki pages for the lazy author to read and writing the "Talk" page instructions. Unlike your knee-jerk reaction to my so-called "abandoning a copy edit request".
LukasMatt (talk) 15:08, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A process comment from the lead coordinator of the GOCE (that's me): rejecting a copy edit Request should be done only after discussion on the Requests Talk page and confirmation from one or more of the GOCE coordinators. A lone editor, even a GOCE coordinator or other very experienced editor, should not make that decision unilaterally. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:34, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree in principle; although I don't think it's necessary to get an okay from a GOCE coordinator, it's assumed that editors copyediting requests are experienced enough to understand the need for communication and some semblance of consensus (i.e. more than one set of eyes). All the best, Miniapolis 22:58, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
