Hi Miniapolis, here's an alert to a secret revert of one of your edits. I noticed that you recently blanked User:Angela SiP per WP:UP#PROMO. However, an IP (50.12.239.149) put back all the content. (I know about this because I came across this page in Recent Changes and watchlisted it.) George8211 conversations 19:27, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up; I'm watching the page also, and blocked the IP (which I have a feeling is User:Angela SiP) for 24 hours as well. Think we're looking at a spam-only account that's WP:NOTHERE; funny how WP's position in the Google algorithm brings out the would-be advertisers :-). Thank u for copy-editing Chandralekha (1948 film). BTW, I hope u edited all the statements according to these supporting sources: [1], [2], and [3] ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 09:36, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
You're welcome (and thanks for the cookie :-)). I'm only about halfway done, and haven't done anything with the sources. I'm polishing the prose, and fixing obvious errors as I see them; that's time-consuming enough. All the best, Miniapolis 19:55, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Kamal Haasan may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

Glad to help, but I'm only about halfway done; I can comfortably copyedit about 2,000 words a day :-), and do it section by section to avoid edit conflicts. If you check the history you'll see where I left off last night, and it should be done today. All the best, Miniapolis 13:26, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

A quick note about Mai Shiranui

Hi Miniapolis, thanks for taking the above request. Having just done Kasumi (Dead or Alive), I thought I'd let you know that Niemti—who has been editing the above article—was editing "Kasumi" at the same time as me. Niemti objected to my removal of some questionable, crufty material and sources (see our conversation on the talk page) and defended it by wikilawyering. S/he seems quite combative and defensive of certain material as you can see on Mai Shiranui's GA review. I'm not saying his/her edits are generally problematic and I'm not bringing this to you as an admin, just giving a friendly heads-up about the problems I had with him/her. In "Kasumi" I found misused and inaccurately used quotations, cruft and original research that did not exist in the stated sources—'Reception' sections seem prone to this kind of thing. The chances are you'll have no problems at all; I hope this is the case for you. Cheers, 21:48, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Oh joy. Thanks for the heads-up; I checked the GAN (because I always take "I failed solely because of the prose" with a grain of salt) and their talk page. You're right; they don't seem to play too well with others, but I trust they've learned that you can't bully your way to a GA. Don't worry—I can take whatever comes (I hate that animation, but can't find a policy-based reason to remove it :-)). Thanks again and all the best, Miniapolis 22:01, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
No worries; I see you've had the pleasure already. I've read your post on my talk page and will reply there. The animation is...erm...pure class... :-D Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 03:13, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Mai

It should be always "Mai", not "Shiranui". (Unless in cases it's full name "Mai Shiranui".) --Niemti (talk) 00:08, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Per WP:SURNAME, "After the initial mention of any name, the person should be referred to by surname only". Um, do you want this copyedit or not? I'm not as patient as Baffle is :-). Miniapolis 00:50, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

In video games, we use the way they're adressed to in the games (for example: always "Kyo", never "Kusanagi"). Unless the character is adressed by its surname (for example: always "Wesker", never "Albert"), but it's very rare. Characters are not persons, but fictional content. --Niemti (talk) 01:53, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

A copyedit is a copyedit (requested by Gabriel Yuji on WP:GOCE/REQ), and I copyedit in accordance with the Manual of Style. Please see your talk page. Miniapolis 02:01, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
A person (WP:SURNAME is about persons) is a real human being. In Wikipedia, fictional characters are as the way they're known as. Go figure. Btw, many characters have no surnames, or abstract names. In the same series (KOF), there's for example K', aka "K Dash" - no, he's not "Dash", while Blue Mary is neither "Blue" nor "Mary" but "Blue Mary". You've got even game characters like Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network or Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System - what do you think would be "surnames" of those "persons"? --Niemti (talk) 02:05, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
True, fictional characters (think of TV shows) are generally referred to by their first name unless they are in a work environment (office, hospital, police station, church, etc.) and have a title (Mr. X, Dr. X, Officer X, Rev. X, etc.). Liz Read! Talk! 13:00, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Again, I copyedit according to the Manual of Style (which makes no exception to WP:SURNAME for fictional characters). I've copyedited a number of articles about fictional characters, and this is the first time it's ever been an issue. Since Niemti has a track record of article ownership, tendentious editing and disruption, in the absence of a (proposed) topic/site ban I'm dealing with them appropriately. Miniapolis 20:25, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

I can't really copyedit grammer well because English is my foreign language. --Niemti (talk) 02:10, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Do you work for a competitor and why would anyone delete the article when adding books to it.

Did we add the wrong book

Perpetual Income: How-to Generate Cash Flow from Low-End House Investments by Bryan Wittenmyer (Jul 1, 1999)Page 32

The next article I write will be to the company rent my vacation home and let them handle this.

What reason do you have to delete when we are working on references. At this point please terminate me form my membership if this is not put back on the site. I will also never forget what was done here for the rest of my life and I worked for free. Just delete me as I suspect this is corruption on a good day.

I will also recommended everyone in our class cancel the membership and never help again. goodbye forever

Thanks for copyediting the article.. A question for you, if you look past the bad grammar and English writing, were there any other big or minor problems with the article? --TIAYN (talk) 15:35, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

The article is very good; the only issues I could see were the relatively few sources cited (I kept seeing the same refs, sometimes the same page cited several times in a sentence) and the large number of red links. The first may not cause you any trouble at GAN and FAC (I think it's a GA now—too bad I can't review it :-)), but I've seen reviewers fuss about a lot of red links. Good luck and all the best, Miniapolis 15:42, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Trouted

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: Your undo of the CSD:G7 on Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/San Jose Watch Company. I observe that the editor has not done anything with Wikipedia since the point that they blanked the submission. The page was cought in an AfC maintenance process (Category:AfC submissions with missing AfC template) and I evaluated the page to determine what the user's intention was. Typically when a user blanks a page like that they are indicating that they're giving up on the submission or are going to do something else. Admins have significantly endorsed this viewpoint as evidenced by the derth of redlinks in User:Hasteur/CSD log. Because you undid my CSD:G7 on what I consider to be shoddy grounds, I have reverted the page to the last non-blank version (which includes a AfC template) so that when the 6 months from last edit (which is now today) comes around we can speedy the deletion under CSD:G13. Hasteur (talk) 13:33, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Trout accepted, as a learning experience (and they're always fun :-)). I undid your G7 because it looked like the article's creator intended to resubmit and not blank it (so we were both trying to figure out what they intended; in retrospect, I should've left it alone and asked them). I ended up deleting it as G12 (although not an unambiguous copyvio), but it was also a G11 candidate. We'll see if they try to re-create it. Miniapolis 13:54, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Animal welfare

Can you have a look at this ANI? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#CI.2C_OWN_etc._of_user_DrChrissy_on_animal_welfare CI, OWN etc. of user DrChrissy on animal welfare. Hi there.

Thanks for reviewing my Instant Company page. This is my first time creating a page for Wiki and have been working on this page for some time. Can you provide me with some guidance as to where I can improve. I read your notes, but I'm still unsure - can you give me some examples? I have been referring to the Regus site for help also. Thanks

Wednesday2013 (talk) 06:37, 24 October 2013 (UTC)Wednesday2013

Hi. I don't know what the Regus site you refer to is, but because Wikipedia ranks high in search-engine algorithms many companies (and people) try to submit articles as free advertising (click on any blue words for links to relevant policy and guidelines). WP:CORP is the notability guideline for companies; WP:CORPDEPTH is especially useful for the extent of coverage required in reliable sources. WP:VRS explains the general notability guidelines. Startups are generally not sufficiently notable for an encyclopedia article. All the best, Miniapolis 13:19, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Miniapolis, I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place but I don't really know anyone else to ask.

A few days ago, I made an edit to the above template intending to add a feature allowing it to return a plain url instead of the normal formatted link. Now there are several editors on the talk pqge complaining about the change breaking citation templates--but the template never worked with citation templates in the first place as it returns a formatted url not the plain one those templates require. Going batty has been going round fixing the templates which can't have worked in the first place, so i can't just undo it. Also, its transcluded on over 1000 pages so I'll be wasting server resources. I feel like an idiot--maybe i am. (See my diff on the template and the discussion on the talk) I'm sorry if I'm being annoying. RainCity471 (whack!) 21:33, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Don't beat yourself up; that's why they put erasers on pencils :-). Template editing is far from my forte, but Jonesey95 (who's a cinch to know more than I do) doesn't seem to think there's much—if any—problem. Keep me posted, and I'll help any way I can. Good luck and all the best, Miniapolis 02:14, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
And I guess why MediaWiki has an undo button, otherwise this would be Vandalpedia because we'd have to start from scratch every time someone blanked a page... Anyway I think I'll keep clear of templates... I like to think I'm fairly technically literate but I obviously don't seem to be: I've got the Blue screen of death twice and crashed Sibelius (software) so it got stuck on a really loud chord. Thanks for all your help and best wishes, RainCity471 (whack!) 22:54, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
These things happen. The preview button saves me untold embarrassment, but sometimes (especially with templates) you can't tell how something will work until you (gulp) save it. Never forget that there's nothing you can do on WP that can't be undone :-). All the best, Miniapolis 23:43, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
RainCity471: Really, it's not a problem. What you saw as complaining, I saw as "making a note of an unintended consequence of the wonderful, bold work you did to improve our glorious encyclopedia of all world knowledge." Additions of features, even fixing(s?) of bugs, always have unintended consequences that will ruffle someone's feathers (yes, I have feathers). That's life. You did a good thing, and it made a little work for someone else, but if the world (or at least WP) is a better place when you're done, you can sleep well at night. Keep it up! (And M is right: there's always "undo" if everything goes pear-shaped.) – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:38, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
You're right, Jonesey (and I can't speak for RainCity but I think they'd agree now that the omigodwhathaveidone shock has worn off); we all make mistakes, and the important thing is to learn from them. All the best, Miniapolis 14:49, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, both of you are right. At the risk of being a bit WP:BEANSey, even this could be undone... Thanks for all of your help and best wishes, RainCity471 (whack!) 15:27, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
And Jonesey: sorry I misunderstood you on the template talk page. RainCity471 (whack!) 20:27, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Good news

Chandralekha (1948 film) has passed its GA review. I also owe you for that. If ever I was awarded for that on wiki, I would prefer being praised for having brought the article from slumps to GA status in less than a year. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 04:10, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

You might want to add a better rationale for deletion rather than simply referring to the MFD for the bounty board. It's likely to be a more contentious discussion since it still in use and doesn't only offer monetary rewards. Cheers SmartSE (talk) 15:27, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
