Revision as of 18:05, 29 March 2020

The article Rafael Sotomayor Morales has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. GiantSnowman 13:26, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: Hi, I think the guidelines for WP:NFOOTBALL are slightly too vague. My reason for saying this is that FIFA does clearly state that the fixtures need to be authorised by itself, but WP:NFOOTBALL also states that the teams do NOT need to be members of FIFA. Do FIFA athorise games in which at least one team is not a FIFA member?
On a similar note, NFT keeps records of non-FIFA games, and for nations such as Tuvalu (a non-FIFA country according to NFT), most of their games would presumably be non-FIFA games. One example of a player, who was actually nominated for deletion (with an ultimate decision to keep), is Vaisua Liva. Liva has played 5 non-FIFA games for Tuvalu (as of NFT), yet he has only played in non-FIFA games, for a non-FIFA recognised country. Having looked at the deletion log, you actually voted to keep this article, so I would just like to know what the difference is between Liva, Sotomayor and Chipunza? Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 13:54, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have just looked through the deletion article again, and seen that the Pacific Games are part of qualification for the FIFA World Cup, so I presume these games would therefore be FIFA authorised, and NFT has actually made a mistake by saying these were non-FIFA games? Therefore, would players from the Federated States of Micronesia national under-23 football team be eligible for articles as they have represented their country at FIFA authorised games by competing at the 2015 Pacific Games? Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 13:59, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As for the Falkland Islands, a Tier 1 game is, per the FIFA Regulations, between "members" (clause 7(1))- The Falkland Islands is not a member and therefore cannot by definition play in a Tier 1 match.
As for NFT, it's not 100% accurate tbh, although it's a decent source nonetheless. GiantSnowman 14:06, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As for Liva, he played at a competition which featured at least one Tier 1 game, and was therefore considered a Tier 1 competiton (see the Regulations, clause 7(3)). That's why he was kept, but in any event WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. GiantSnowman 14:06, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Ah but Tuvalu aren't a member of FIFA either, and I have had a look and found that FIFA actually said that the Pacific Games would NOT be part of any qualification for the World Cup! (source here at the Wayback Machine (archived 1 July 2016)). So NFT were right to say they were non-FIFA games, and I presume that puts players from Tuvalu and the Falklands on the same level when it comes to international appearances with regards to notability? Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 14:10, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If that's the case then yes - and Liva should be re-nominated and deleted as non-notable per NFOOTBALL. GiantSnowman 14:12, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, glad that cleared things up then. That would make all Tuvalu players non-notable then I presume? Unless they were playing in a fully professional league of course. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 14:14, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Probably worth making the point that GS seems to have forgotten the recent change to NFOOTY, namely that players who have played for national teams in competitions organised by or sanctioned by continental confederations are now considered notable. This is to level the playing field for sovereign nations that are not members of Fifa. As such, Tuvaluan players who have played in the Pacific games meet NFOOTY, as it is an OFC competition. On the other hand the Falkland islands are neither a nation nor have competed in a competition organised or sanctioned by UEFA so players would not be notable per NFOOTY. Though they could still pass GNG with enough coverage in Falkland islands media. Fenix down (talk) 16:32, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, thank you both for clearing this up! Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 16:34, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kalvin Lumbombo Kalala

Any reason why you have removed references and categories and messed ups the infobox? Your editing is becoming increasingly concerning... GiantSnowman 11:58, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: Not sure what you're getting at here. I didn't add the Italian link saying he had moved to Carpi because it's an amateur source. One look at the website referenced will show you the shoddy quality. Is this really a reliable source? Also confused as to why you constantly remove career statistics, when pages such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both have them. The ones I add are always sourced with Soccerway, ZeroZero or an external statistics page such as the USL or PDL portals.
Your comment on me removing categories is absolutely ridiculous. My page creations often have 'Club career' as opposed to 'Career'. Big whoop. Huge difference there. And 'messing up the infobox' is simply an untrue statement. The differences between our two infobox edits are minuscule. The only major changes I can see are the removal of blank international stats (fair enough), slight formatting differences (my version is cleaner) and your claim that this player is a forward. Please provide a source stating he is a forward. Soccerway has him listed as a midfielder, as does the crappy Italian source you had on there. Is this not vandalism?
On a side note, might be worth noting that as a non-admin, I have limited views of page history and administration. For example, Daniel Iversen is listed to have been created by yourself on 26 July 2018, yet when I went to create the page, there was nothing to indicate that this was the case. As with Reece James. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 12:14, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've added back the career stats table (properly formatted and referenced); the infobox was not formatted in-line with {{Infobox football biography}}; you removed the a number of valid categories (A.S.D. Jolly Montemurlo players; French expatriates in Italy; Expatriate footballers in Italy; Category:French expatriates in England; Category:Expatriate footballers in England); you removed the valid stub tag. GiantSnowman 12:30, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Properly formatted and referenced? Sorry but there is nearly NO difference between the two. You're being incredibly anal here. I think Serie D - E makes more sense than just Serie D, too. It's the same thing as the National League having a 'North' and 'South' section, as the 'E' makes it clear that he competed in the Serie D group E. You replaced my <ref group="lower-alpha"> with an efn link, when they do the exact same thing. Apologies about the categories, but as I stated above: when I created the page, it was a blank template. I didn't remove anything, I just created my own version of the page that was minimally different from your own.
The comment about the infobox not being formatted correctly is utter rubbish too. So what if I put the 'years1', 'clubs1', 'caps1' and 'goals1' on the same line? This is the case with most football articles on Wikipedia. Again using Lionel Messi as an example. I don't see you jumping in to "correct" that page. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 12:42, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
'Serie D - E' is ambiguous, hence why it was removed. Feel free to put 'Serie D Group E' or something if you want, but I've never seen that before. Regarding the infobox WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, as you should be well aware. GiantSnowman 12:47, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Please clarify what I am missing with regards to WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 12:51, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just because other articles do certain (incorrect) things does not mean that you can do the same on this one. GiantSnowman 12:57, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: If we're going to be this anal about these things, then shouldn't all football player articles have every single line from {{Infobox football biography}}? Including things such as embed, image_size, alt and all of the college lines, even if they're blank? In the case of Kalala, you left in the image, image_size, caption, etc lines, even though they are blank. What makes these more important than other things that you have removed? Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 13:12, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh...because we want an image on every article; we do not need college parameters for players who did not play college. GiantSnowman 13:23, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Well I think we want players to represent their countries at international level and win the leagues/tournaments they are involved in, but you always remove the national statistics and 'medaltemplates' lines because they have not yet played at international level or won anything. Surely the international stuff should only be removed when a player retires as there is always a chance that they will be called up? It sounds to me like your own editing style. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 13:28, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're being ridiculous now - ask at WT:FOOTY if you don't believe me. It's standard to only put in college/national parameters if/when they actually play - but we always keep in empty image parameters. GiantSnowman 13:31, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ismael Dunga moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Ismael Dunga, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello there, I noticed that you moved this article back to mainspace. But you left an edit summary that "Soccerway" is a reliable source. However, over the years at various discussions at WP:Football and WP:RS, Soccerway has been deemed unreliable. Since, you added one more source to the article so I am not going to contest your move but I would like you to inform that only sourcing through Soccerway is not going to make the article suitable for mainspace. Hugman's Footballers website

Hello. I came across your creation Gary Marshall (footballer) and noticed that you'd misinterpreted the way the Hugman's Footballers site sets out the player's stats (which is a bit misleading). The figures headed Apps are actually starting appearances, so you need to add "Apps" and Subs together to get total appearances. So looking at Mr Marshall's stats, he should have 159+38 league appearances in all, not 159. I've fixed the figures on Gary Marshall (footballer), but if you've used the site to source other pages, you may want to go back and check them. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:59, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictory information here regarding current club - please can you review and rectify? GiantSnowman 14:30, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Title

You're really doing great by creating numerous of new articles and i wanted to thankyou for your contribution to wikipedia but i think it's ok while writing title name Lucas Silva (footballer) instead of adding birthdate in title. AD Talk 19:50, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Azkord: Hi, the only reason I did so was to distinguish from Lucas Silva (footballer, born 1993), as he could also be listed as Lucas Silva (footballer). Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 19:55, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Robinson (footballer)

An awdul lot of unsourced information in this article - where have you got the NI int'l stats from? What about Ridgeway Rovers? GiantSnowman 16:31, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: Added sources. Please do not add ugly references to pages. Just putting ref-link-ref is sloppy and ugly. You of all people should be doing better. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 17:28, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing wrong with adding bare URLs, thopugh it's not ideal. I was in a rush trying to clean up that mess of an article. Don't try and lecture me, given all your issues here. GiantSnowman 17:34, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Thank you for helping to clean up my disgusting mess of an article. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 17:35, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No need to be sarky, I'm trying to help you. GiantSnowman 17:37, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Regarding dates, Robinson signed for Oldham in 2017 (ambiguous because in the article it says something about him joining next season, article written in April so probably 2017). He was still most likely playing youth football for Glenavon and was surely playing youth football for Oldham, which is why I added both into the ‘youthyears’ section. Any reason why they should be omitted from this? He was still playing youth football even after playing senior football. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 18:45, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Because it gets far too complex. The infobox is a brief summary of a career. GiantSnowman 09:06, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Rubbish, why bother having the youthyears thing there then? If, for example, Robinson joined Oldham in 2017, but only played youth games from 2017 until 2019, he has represented Oldham at youth level and therefore this information should be reflected under youthyears. His professional, senior career with Oldham should start in 2019. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 21:15, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What about John Smith, a backup goalkeeper for a club. He has never played a first team game but is always on the bench. Is he 'senior' or 'youth'? GiantSnowman 08:35, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: By WP:FOOTY, he wouldn’t be eligible for a page ;) but I see your point. I think it’s difficult, because say a player signs for a premier league club at 16 in 2013 and has one appearance on the bench the next day, but then spends the next 5 years playing youth football, would you say his senior career spans 2013-2018? Or would you say that was his youth career?
I think a good compromise is to add it into both, because it covers both bases. Say John Smith signs in 2013, plays youth football until 2014 and makes his senior debut in 2015, you couldn’t just leave a gap from 2014-2015. So you could put in the youth category that he played from 2013-2014 and the senior category 2013-2015. I think it is all very age-dependant though. (Both examples assume that the player leaves immediately after making their first appearance, otherwise, of course, it would be 2013- on both). Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 09:29, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fabio Zúñiga

Why have you created one as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC? GiantSnowman 16:34, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: Presumed that's how things were done, created the page for Fabio Zúñiga, then realised there was another Fabio Zúñiga who had also played professionally, so created a new page with Fabio Zúñiga (footballer, born 1979) because you told me not to merge (i.e. create a disambiguation page at Fabio Zúñiga) and I do not have the administration rights to do much on here. Would you oh so kindly create a disambiguation page at Fabio Zúñiga and have a new page, Fabio Zúñiga (footballer, born 1981) created, please? The article Vicente Fernández (footballer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Content fork for Vicente Fernández Godoy, see WP:CONTENTFORK

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Xaiver0510 (talk) 02:30, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Xaiver0510: The Soccerway link, as well as others, did state this player was born in 2004. However this has now been rectified(?) on Soccerway. Unsure how this came about but looking at Vicente Fernández Godoy, it seems someone at Soccerway made an error. I will not be disputing any deletion, but I would suggest using Vicente Fernández (footballer) as a redirect page to Vicente Fernández Godoy. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 11:21, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Davidlofgren1996: I was using soccerway as the main source for that 2 articles. I am also very unsure whether should it be deleted. Since you feel redirection will be a better choice, I will redirect the article instead to preserve history. Thanks! --Xaiver0510 (talk) 01:49, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not to worry - happens to the best of us! GiantSnowman 11:33, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I imagine this edit is probably correct, but do you have a better source than ZeroZero? The site is not considered a reliable source (one of the many discussions is at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2019 February 13#Template:TheFinalBall). Thanks, Nzd (talk) 03:06, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Nzd: I know it’s not the most reliable source, but it’s the easiest way to see the lower divisions of Brazilian state league football. There is probably a source out there that has the statistics for the Campeonato Paranaense A3, but it would take forever to find. Also, ZeroZero tends to be as reliable a source as Soccerway in my experience, especially for Brazilian football. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 08:32, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Abdullah Qazi moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Abdullah Qazi, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. Your draft article, Draft:Yumi Yano

Hello, Davidlofgren1996. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Yumi Yano".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 05:37, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Greek footballers

Hello Davidlofgren1996,

Can you please create a page for those Greek football players? They are all perfect. Panagiotis Katsikas, Angelos Tsingaras, Konstantinos Balogiannis, Antonis Gaitanidis, Georgios Daviotis, Antonis Trimmatis, Antonis Dentakis, Vasilis Mantzis, Tasos Karagiozis, Apostolos Diamantis, Marios Tsaousis, Panagiotis Ginis, Apostolos Tsilingiris, Petros Bakoutsis, Zisis Chatzistravos, Kostas Bouloulis, Anestis Vlachomitros, Alexandros Anagnostopoulos, Giannis Varkas, Christos Rovas, Michalis Bousis, Christos Eleftheriadis and Panagiotis Moraitis.

Thank you very much!

David Wang (footballer)

"Your" version as you state it (WP:OWN much?) has more sources but the infobox is awful. The youth career cannot extend beyond the senior career, and it does not comply with standard formatting. GiantSnowman 14:45, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: "My" infobox was more detailed. Wang joined Jumilla in 2016, and was loaned to Murcia FROM Jumilla (as sourced). His loan to Josep María Gené was also a youth loan (also sourced), and he was then loaned to Estudiantes (as of Soccerway). Yes, he did join Wolves in 2019, having already spent time in senior football, but his loan to Sporting was to their B team at least. Also, he joined Wolves Jan 1, meaning he was from Jumilla from 2016 until 2018. I have amended the infobox accordingly. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 14:54, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, his name is quite literally Wang Jiahao. This is noted in most of the sources and to expunge it from the page is silly in my opinion. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 14:56, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Include it as his Chinese name, not his main name. This is the English language Wikipedia, and in Englsh language sources he is known as David Wang, and described as Spanish. The latter does not change until he represents China. GiantSnowman 14:59, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Not trying to push it, but I didn't like this source that you included either. It states that he made 24 appearances, scoring 3 goals for Jumilla B, even though numerous sources state these as his stats at Josep María Gené. Even BBC say that he only made 16 appearances for Jumilla B. The source even seems quite subjective, rather slating Wang and agent Jorge Mendes, rather than giving objective facts. Please check your sources. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 15:05, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Serbian First League (2nd division) is professional, as of Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues. As it was only one sub appearance, the nomination is fair. However, the player is only 20, so perhaps we should wait until the end of the 2020 China Super League to see if he makes another professional appearance. If not, feel free to nominate. Or nominate now and take it to a debate. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 11:59, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@HawkAussie: I’m editing on mobile, thought the reply would be automatically included. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 12:00, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Davidlofgren1996: The main reason why I put that up is the fact that he isn't in the Hebei China Fortune F.C. squad for the 2020 season (if it even happens) and like you said, he only made the single appearance so the nominaton was fair. HawkAussie (talk) 23:34, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
