Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race is an upcoming Canadian animated reality television series which lampoons the conventions commonly found in reality television. The show is a spin-off of the original Total Drama series created in 2007. The series is created by Fresh TV Inc. and distributed by Cake Entertainment and is the second series created as part of the greater Total Drama franchise. The style of this series is direct parody of The Amazing Race. The series will premiere on the Canadian cable television specialty channel, Teletoon in mid-to-late 2015[3] and air on Cartoon Network in the United States.[4] Like the original series, this series will comprise 26 episodes per season.[3]

Plot

The series will be based on The Amazing Race and will loosely parody the reality series.[citation needed] It will take place around the world and feature pairs of contestants, rather than teams, in the style of the reality series it is parodying.

The first season of The Ridonculous Race is expected to consist of all new characters, with some characters returning from the original Total Drama series. All characters will be split into 18 teams of two, and must complete challenges around the world to win a one million dollar prize.[4]

Racers will visit a different country in every episode and perform in "legs" while the team to receive last place may be eliminated.[5] In each of the 26 different locations, each racer must go to a "Don Box" to receive clues that let them decide which challenge they want to perform in.

Cast

As of June 2015 the following voice actors had been confirmed as cast members:

Lyon Smith[11] has also been confirmed, though his role has not yet been announced.

Characters

Even though some of the characters from the main series will make appearances, the spin-off series will have a new cast.[1] The spin-off series will be a "Buddy Comedy" and will include 36 characters (18 teams of two).[4] Kristin Fairlie, the voice actor for the character Bridgette from the original series, is set to voice one of the new contestants, Carrie.[12] Scott McCord (voice of characters Owen and Trent in the original series) as well as Carter Hayden (voice of Noah in the original) were also revealed to be returning to the cast, and were seen in the recording studio together.[9] It was later confirmed that the news was correct.[10] It was eventually revealed that the first pair will be Carrie and her best friend Devin, who is played by Jeff Geddis.[8] In February, the second pair was revealed: Stephanie and Ryan. The two are voiced by Nicki Burke of Dead Rising 2 and Joseph Motiki, from Rescue Heroes.[6] In a new promotion by Cake Entertainment, Geoff was also revealed to be among the returning cast. There is also a pair of goths as a team, as well as a father-son team.[10]

Setting

Many countries and their geographic elements will be drawn and animated when used as settings for the whole series. A different country will be used for each episode.[5] The starting point will be the city of Toronto, Ontario in Canada,[2] while characters will then travel to the following locations:

Zimbabwe[13]
Paris, France[14]
The Arctic Circle[15]
Iceland[16]
Beijing, China[17]
Darjeeling, India[18]

These locations may not be in the order of episodes, but they are in the order they were announced.

Production

The show is already under production.[1]

Alex Ganetakos is set to produce the show,[19] while Terry McGurrin will write screenplay,[20] and Chad Hicks is set to direct it.[21] Production for this new series commenced on January 1, 2014 and it is scheduled to conclude on October 30, 2015.[22]

On June 10, 2015 the first episode was leaked online from the Cake Entertainment website, exactly five years after the first episode of Season 3 aired in Canada. The producers have since not been happy and are doing everything they can to make sure it does not happen again.[23]

Media

A video game is being developed that will allow players to use any of the series' 36 characters and race them in short endless running type games.[5]
