:Hi @[[User:Ayyyple2|Ayyyple2]], welcome back. Grammar is the least of your worries here, I'm afraid. Your article is about a living person, but it has no inline citations, only a list of external links at the end, and most of those are useless as far as establishing that this person is notable. It's very likely that your article will be moved to draft space because it's not ready to be part of the encyclopedia yet. adding pictures

Hi, I need help on adding pictures on pages especially from the USA where I have my own hundreds of pictures taken from many historical places, national and state parks Garteners (talk) 08:50, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Garteners Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. If you took the images yourself, you may upload them according to the instructions at WP:UPIMAGE. If you didn't take them yourself, it is much harder as copyright needs to be determined. What specific help do you need? 331dot (talk) 08:52, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks 331dot
All pictures are mine most of them are taken with a Nicon Coolpix p1000 and other cameras. ( I am an amateur photographer )
I have some great ones from Antelope Canyon, Death Valley, Racetrack playa, Yellowstone, Badlands, Arches and Canyonlands, Devils Tower, Denali Alaska etc...I want to know how do I add them on a wiki page ( lets say Antelope Canyon or Four Corners etc..) using html code.
Thanks in advance!! Garteners (talk) 11:59, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gartners: Wikipedia is always looking for high quality appropriately licensed photos, but it generally preferred that you upload such photos to Wikipedia's sister project Wikimedia Commons. You probably should, however, take a close look at c:Commons:Licensing, c:Commons:Derivative works, c:Commons:License revocation, c:Commons:Reusing content outside Wikimedia and c:Commons:Enforcing license terms before you start uploading anything just to make sure you understand what it means to upload your photos to Wikipedia or Commons. You may want your photos to be used in Wikipedia articles, but there's no 100% guarantee that such a thing will happen. If other members of the Wikipedia community feel that you're photos aren't improvements to the articles in question, you may have to establish a consensus in favor of using them on the relevant articles talk page. One other thing to consider is that even if the photos do end up being used in Wikipedia articles, there's no way to limit their reuse to only Wikipedia. Others will be able to freely download the photos and use them in pretty much any way they want without out needing to get your permission each time they want to do so as long as they comply with the terms of whatever copyright license you choose. I'm not trying to discourage you from uploading your photos, but you should understand what that entails and make sure it's something you want to do. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:20, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Marchury! Garteners (talk) 18:41, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can also load your pictures to a Walmart account and order prints of all sizes, and create an account on Google photos, and load them there.🙂 Lord Milner (talk) 13:33, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Official web page: Invalid SSL certificate (expired)

Hi, should I temporarily unlink the official web site on an article if the SSL security certificate is invalid? It brings up a warning in my web browser (I could choose to ignore the warning and visit the site anyway):

Details: NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID: This server could not prove that it is alissic.co; its security certificate expired 190 days ago.

There's no point in changing the link to http, as that just redirects to https.

Thanks, Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 08:55, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend adding an archive link for people who are spooked away by the warning. Carpimaps (talk) 10:50, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How does one print a wikipedia article to a file, such as a MS Word file? ----RedYellowGreen1599 (talk) 10:28, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

you could look up "how to insert html into a word document". might be the easiest way to copy the exact look of wikipedia into word.
for display only it might be better to use PDF.
for editing, it might be better to only copy the text. Bart Terpstra (talk) 12:19, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want a PDF file, try "Print/export | Download as PDF". -- Hoary (talk) 10:31, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copy/pasting the article is probably sufficient in most cases. However, if you would like to preserve page formatting and images, etc, then your best bet is to use your browser’s view source function and copy all of the HTML code in it. This code can then be placed in a text editor, and then saved as a .html file. This will allow you to view it in a browser even offline. Be sure to download all of the images first. The page will, of course, only work properly if the images are in the same directory as the .html file you just created. Pablothepenguin (talk) 19:52, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
modern browsers support "save page as", which will download it as a single HTML page and also most assets on the page (fonts, images), which saves you from having to do it manually. Bart Terpstra (talk) 19:54, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@RedYellowGreen1599: Hi there! After saving the article as a PDF, you could use one of the free online tools that will convert a PDF to a Word doc. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 15:30, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

hi @Secret dollars and welcome to the Teahouse! are you using them to cite a blog post or a particular chess game (or their analysis of that game)? 💜  melecie  talk - 05:04, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Secret dollars: Hi there! You might want to ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chess (if it's not already listed in the talk page archives). I suggest providing some examples of what URLs you would want to use as sources, and which articles you would want to have those sources. Happy editing! questions with user Talk Pages

hi, how do i cite sources on someone else's user talk page? since i saw the owner of the talk page be able to cite sources, also, i was having a conversation on a talk page of a user on my phone and suddenly i wasn't able to reply anymore, i wasn't even able to look at the reply thread until i switched to laptop where i was able to view and reply. can someone please tell me the answers to these two questions? thank you Natieboi (talk) 19:18, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You can do links and add the numbers manually as the link text. I do not know how to do it otherwise, but maybe there is a dedicated tool to it. Link text can be added like Link text. Adler3 (talk) 19:19, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The request that I presume is yours is titled In "Starring" the list is not complete. Well, different people are likely to have different opinions of what constitutes stardom in a particular film. This doesn't mean that this could never be a matter for rational dispute, but you don't say anything on the talk page that seems likely to get a reaction much beyond "Uh-huh. And so?" -- Hoary (talk) 02:37, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pink News draws on, and misrepresents, what Variety wrote, and Variety reads: As for what’s next? There’s speculation about whether or not “Fantastic Beasts” will complete its ambitions as a five-film franchise. At the moment, there’s no screenplay for a fourth installment, sources have confirmed. Executives at Warner Bros. are waiting to see how “The Secrets of Dumbledore” is received before giving films four and five the greenlight. [My emphasis].
As your many Chile-based dynamic IPs have been told before, we are still awaiting official confirmation, and this is why your many attempts at introducing your own interpretation of sources have been reverted by other editors. As have your attempts to change the Fantastic Beasts film billing blocks and cast lists, and to change the titles/headlines of citations/references, over a period of many months. The many reversions, page protections, user notices, warnings, and blocks should maybe tell you something. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 08:15, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Repackage tracklist dilemma

Usually, on articles about albums that have deluxe/repackage editions, I see that their separate tracklists only include the bonus tracks.

However, on some albums, these bonus tracks are spread out all over the album (in one case, a song from the standard edition is moved to another position).

Should I keep the full tracklist as is? Or should I reduce to bonus tracks only as usual? Baxyofh4rd (talk) 02:04, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Baxyofh4rd: Welcome to the Teahouse! If WP:ALTTRACKLISTING does not answer your question, I suggest asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums/Album article style advice. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:11, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Global Times

I wish to use a Global Times article for an article on a trolleybus route in Shanghai. I'm well aware that this is a depreciated source, but this is one of the very few sources I can find in English (most others are Chinese), and if I were being honest I don't think this particular article can be harmful even if this is used, considering this is on a general topic of trolleybuses and not some controversial topic like politics. In this case, is it okay if I were to use this particular GT article inside my Wikipedia article? SBS6577P (talk) 03:47, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SBS6577P, WP:GLOBALTIMES points not only to a discussion deprecating GT but also responses to subsequent questions akin to "I know that GT is deprecated, but could it be used as a source for xyz?" Their responses can be summarized as "no". Are none of the sources in Chinese usable? If not, then it is indeed rather hard to imagine how a trolleybus route could be misrepresented for propaganda purposes, but the place to ask isn't here but instead WP:RSN. -- Hoary (talk) 06:38, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Grumman FAAV Notability

I have found that there is no article pertaining to the Grumman VAAF prototype of the early '90s. I do not know if there is enough outside coverage of the aircraft to deserve its own article, but I have found multiple articles that reference it: Lift fan; Grumman; BCalow (talk) 06:21, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No matter, BCalow. What matters is what's written in reliable sources about your proposed subject. Here (in this message thread), feel free to present the links to what you think are the best three sources. -- Hoary (talk) 06:41, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
These 3 sources are what I believe to be the most reliable
aerospaceprojectsreview.com/blog/?p=1203
ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19960027883
hitechweb.genezis.eu/vtol3c.htm
The last source I am not sure the validity of, but it is the only other source I was able to find BCalow (talk) 07:40, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
BCalow:
  • aerospaceprojectsreview.com/blog/?p=1203 -- "Blog" is worrying, but it's a description of an article published in a magazine, so the latter could be cited. However, it's "A brief article on a trio of Grumman designs from the 1989-1993 time period, VTOL lift-fan combat aircraft, including the Future Attack Air Vehicle (FAAV)"; and thus FAAV is discussed in one third of "a brief article", which again doesn't sound encouraging.
  • ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19960027883 -- This doesn't mention FAAV by name, but perhaps it's about FAAV. It's actually an introduction to this PDF, which doesn't obviously mention FAAV other than in one footnote. Is it about FAAV? You describe FAAV as a prototype; this PDF is about a 1/8 size model, if I understand right. I'm left uncertain about whether, or to what degree, this is about FAAV.
  • hitechweb.genezis.eu/vtol3c.htm -- There's only one short paragraph here about FAAV. And it seems to be in the private website of one Matej Furda.
I don't see how this adds up to Wikipedia-defined notability. -- Hoary (talk) 08:47, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you. I haven't written a article from scratch before, so I didn't know if this constituted writing its own article. Thanks again BCalow (talk) 17:42, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Possible edit war

I restored this edit to the Mahesh Bhatt article as I believe it is important information (it was removed by Atlantic306) but I don't want an edit war (he may remove it again). Is what I restored fine as it is or does it need tweaking?-1Firang (talk) 11:02, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

331dot can you please make time to answer this (my above) question also?-1Firang (talk) 11:35, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There has been no 'edit war'. You haven't been reverted, and if this happens (which given the source cited, and the possible WP:BLP implications of the material added, seems possible) the correct procedure is to discuss the matter on the article talk page. Not here. Not on Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics. [7]. You have already been informed of Wikipedia policy on canvassing multiple times, and continuing in this manner (i.e. looking to bring specific contributors into a dispute) is eventually going to result in you being sanctioned. AndyTheGrump (talk) 12:16, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There's been no edit war but I am trying to pre-empt it by asking for help with how the sentence has been framed.-1Firang (talk) 13:40, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't go into an edit assuming that there will be an edit war. It takes two to edit war- if you refrain from doing so, you will not be sanctioned for edit warring. The place to ask for help with an edit is, as noted, on the appropriate article talk page(first, at least). 331dot (talk) 13:51, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tresor23 Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. Photos from websites are almost never appropriate for use on Wikipedia. They only would be if the copyright of the image is clearly shown to allow use of the photo for any purpose or if the photo is otherwise in the public domain(such as works of the US federal government).
I don't know who "Mrs Liz" is, but it certainly is not a conflict of interest to merely be interested in the topic of motorcycles. Your attempts at a draft seemed to just consist of posting an external link, they did not seem to be efforts to write an encyclopedia article, which is the most difficult task to perform here. 331dot (talk) 11:08, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Where does paraphrasing end and plagiarizing begin?

This section in Ron DeSantis, added here,

He lifted restrictions earlier than most other state governors, but implemented measures to protect the elderly.[1] DeSantis managed to avoid the dire consequences predicted by many, Florida’s death rate was within the national average, and the state’s economy fared better than many others.[1]

is based on this text in Encyclopedia Britannica:

he lifted restrictions much earlier than other governors, though he implemented measures to protect the elderly. While many predicted dire consequences, Florida’s death rate (more than 75,000 people) was within the national average, and the state’s economy fared better than many others.

Aside from the WP text giving DeSantis unsourced credit, is this acceptable as paraphrasing? Space4Time3Continuum2x (talk) 11:16, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say this is next to the line on paraphrasing as it says essentially the same with but rephrased in certain areas. FusionSub (talk) 11:19, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's plagiarism. -- Hoary (talk) 11:55, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's also a very pro-DeSantis position. 331dot (talk) 11:59, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's plagiarism -- and also of questionable accuracy. A more precise statement would be that Florida ranked about 10th highest among U.S. states in number of cases and deaths per capita. That's higher than the "national average" for death and infection rate per capita. Smallchief (talk) 12:20, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This we learned in the 8th Grade: You must "substantially change" a writing in order for it not to be plagiarism. Paraphrasing is self explanatory, and it is exactly what you see above. Hope this helps.🙂 Lord Milner (talk) 13:25, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Declined article despite in-depth, reliable and independent cites

I am newish to Wikipedia and have submitted edits and articles while carefully following the rules on content submissions. One of my submissions has been declined several times despite the fact that I have extensively cited it with in-depth, reliable and independent sources. I am very confused when an editor claims I have not met this requirement. Sources include Politico, NBC News and Food Business News. I feel that I have clearly met the requirements to get it published. Can you help me with this? Here is the link: Draft:Vote Hemp Gothemp (talk) 18:38, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gothemp, one of the comments says: Solid sources are provided, but their focus are hemp farming and attendant legislation. Subject is mentioned only tangentially in these; it is not the primary focus of these articles. Try to find articles that talk about Vote Hemp in-depth. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 18:43, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sources such as Politico mention the org and its focus (lobbying) extensively. Why isn't this sufficient? It clearly is in-depth on the topic, reliable and independent. I see so many articles on this platform with much less cites. Gothemp (talk) 18:51, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps show us your best three independent, secondary, reliable sources that cover the subject in-depth, and see what editors here have to say. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 18:56, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cites #2, 3 and 7 are all good. Gothemp (talk) 19:12, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cite #2 is directly about the organization and in-depth. I again share my concern that the submission meets the criteria but is getting discounted. Today's rejection took very little time from submission. I am wondering how the reviewer was able to read the cites in depth enough to determine that it was tangental? Other cites discuss the work of the org or cite reports that were created by them. How are all these considered tangental?? Gothemp (talk) 19:17, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. Have you read the comments left by reviewers? They agree that the sources are good, but that the sources only tangentally mention the organization. Sources must go into detail about what is significant or important or influential about this organization. The draft says it was influential, but doesn't say how other than to document its activities.
I'm also wondering if you are associated with this organization. 331dot (talk) 18:44, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Articles such as cite #2 do go in depth on the organization. Gothemp (talk) 18:56, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gothemp Please see other stuff exists. It's often not a good idea to cite other similar articles to reference yours as it could be that these other articles are also inappropriate, and simply unaddressed by a volunteer. If you want to use other articles as a model or example, use those classified as good articles. I will again ask if you are associated with this organization. 331dot (talk) 19:00, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have worked in the industry but am not directly associated. Gothemp (talk) 19:09, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cinefilm Please read the feedback other editors provided, before submitting it for feedback. Welcome to the Teahouse! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing six million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read WP:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out WP:TUTORIAL; it's a lot of fun! Good day Cinefilm,
It might help you to switch to the Visual Editor if you have not already as it simplifies the code of a page to a menu. It will help you change the links as references to inline citations, or footnotes. Grammar is also an issue with the page.
As for the elephant in the room, the article is way to small with too few citations. Citations need to be reliable and there needs to be enough to pass notability requirements. You should be extra carful as you are dealing with a living person. ✶Mitch199811 20:41, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

PetScan

I am getting incorrect results when I run PetScan. Adding a screenshot here to see if there is something I am typing wrong. Obviously the states and pages are not in a subcategory of Montana. I have had this problem on multiple searches on multiple days, so this isn't an isolated instance. Thanks! Tbennert (talk) 20:50, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tbennert. "Depth 10" means 10 levels deep of subcategories. A lot can happen there, e.g. Category:Montana, Category:History of Montana, Category:Pre-statehood history of Montana, Category:Washington Territory, Category:Establishments in Washington Territory by year, Category:1854 establishments in Washington Territory, Bellingham, Washington. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:34, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tbennert. A bit of a segue perhaps, but when you create a screenshot of a Wikipedia page, it's not really you're own work that you can claim copyright ownership over per se; it's more of a case of c:COM:2D copying and c:COM:SCREENSHOT. Generally, in such cases, it's better to use a license like c:Template:Wikipedia-screenshot than a regular Creative Commons license because it takes care of all the necessary attribution required by Wikipedia's licensing without asserting you have any copyright ownership over the content of the screenshot. The template's documentation page explain the kind of information needed to use it properly. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:45, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone move reviewer ?
Thanks again! I appreciate the feedback! Rapmarocedit (talk) 03:18, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There's really nothing to do except wait. It's a backlog, not a queue, and reviewers are more likely to pick drafts they're interested in. I'd suggest working on something else in the meantime, or editing it if you find more reliably sourced information. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 03:22, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Rapmarocedit! Asking to have references added by other volunteers to what you've already written suggests you've made the common error of trying to write an article backwards (perhaps based on your personal knowledge). You should start by finding sufficient published WP:Reliable sources, basing your draft only on what they say, and then adding more details from more sources. It's your job to find the sources in the first place. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.199.210.77 (talk) 15:20, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Welcoming me on Wikipedia

Hello guys, my name is EnjoyBrowser557 and I joined Wikipedia in order to add information and change content in articles and sometimes respond to discussions and talk pages. Furthermore, I am still learning about the core principles that Wikipedia provided on my homepage. Would you not forget on recent technology in Wiki software? Plus, would you like to give me barnstars or thanks to me for my intelligent work? Just to know that I am new to Wikipedia, so I am still experimenting on wikicoding and understanding on how to use userboxes for my talk page. So, when I am promoted to autoconfirmed user, I will have a chance to create articles and edit semi-protected pages. When it comes to images and photos, I learned how to use a it in proper way and change the sizes and columns of the image. My only languages I speak is English, so in meantime, I would have the ability to write paragraphs and uses sources when editing articles. That would include any field of topic, I would be interested in.

So in conclusion, do you have any advice or further information that you can present to me, so I will improve my knowledge in upcoming days? How would you guide me around Wikipedia and its talk page discussion? Anyways, kudos to those who make replies to me. /EnjoyBrowser557 (talk) (contributiuons) 04:14, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Content on Swaraj Shetty

Hi I have created a content (biography) on Swaraj Shetty which is not getting approved due to citation issues even after providing all relevant links and citations. Could you pleease guide me on what could the possible issue? Shivani Sudhir Suvarna (talk) 07:21, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Poor quality of citations (examples, wikibio.in, and even Wikipedia), lack of citations, poorly described citations. Let's look at one (strangely formatted) section, "Early life". We read:
Shetty was born 30 October 1990 in Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada. He did his schooling from Narayana Guru School Mangalore and later pursued engineering from Hosur. He had always been passionate about acting and had participated in several theatre productions during his college days and has also bagged the title of Mr. Vignyan 2009 from Hyderabad. He had even won awards for his performances, which fueled his desire to pursue a career in the entertainment industry and returned to Mangalore..
None of this is referenced. The reader has no reason to believe any of it. Everything must be referenced. -- Hoary (talk) 07:55, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Williamhenryincedo Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. Your draft was deleted as an unambiguous advertisement. Wikipedia is not a place for companies to tell the world about themselves and what they do. A Wikipedia article about a company must primarily summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. We are not interested in what a company says about itself, or in its routine business activities, Wikipedia wants to know what those completely unaffiliated with the company choose on their own to say about it. This is usually very difficult for someone in your position to do. If you company truly merits a Wikipedia article, an independent editor will eventually take note of the company in independent sources and choose to write about it. Any article that is written will not belong to the company and can potentially contain negative information about the company, should it exist. Please keep this in mind.

Writing a unbiased article that I'm indirectly paid for?

I'm writing two articles that I'm indirectly paid for. This has been disclosed, in line with Wikipedia Terms of use, on my user page.

The first article is an update of an already published old article about the parking app RingGo. I've addressed the changes on RingGo's Talk page.

The second article is about RingGo's mother company EasyPark Group. EasyPark Group doesn't have an article up on Wikipedia. I tried to create a draft which was later deleted due to my connection with the company, including some feedback that it wasn't unbaised and that some sentences could be interpreted to commercially. It's now rewritten in a straight forward way, just like my RingGo edits and my quesiton is how I move forward to get it published?

Thank you for your help. JMW Editor (talk) 13:22, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your re-write on the article talk page is entirely promotional and supported by press releases which are not independent sources.Theroadislong (talk) 13:31, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JMW Editor: if you wish to write an article on the EasyPark Group (or any other topic you have a conflict of interest in), you must submit your draft for review at WP:AFC; you're not allowed to publish it directly yourself. HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:59, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clarification. JMW Editor (talk) 14:29, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JMW Editor Your post here has reminded me of the current fuss in the UK about smartphone-only carparks and I have added some well-sourced information about that to the RingGo article. This demonstrates a comment often seen on Teahouse threads that an article about you or your company is not always a good thing. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:58, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JMW Editor, Draft:EasyPark Group has three references listed at the end, but no inline citations at all. Also, I notice that two of the references have headlines which are rather critical of an action which has been taken, but no such criticism appears in the body of the article. The draft just says things which (I assume) EasyPark would like people to know, sourced (I assume) to EasyPark itself, and nothing else. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:29, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to post information that is confirmable but difficult to source

The location of a radio station's transmitter was given to me by a friend with local knowledge (who asked me to make the update). I was able to confirm it on Google Maps but could not find a static source to use as a reference. The location currently on the web site (that presumably was correct at some point but no longer is) is also unsourced. I tried to update the information but my edit was reverted because it was not referenced. I tried finding the information on the FCC's web site and the radio station's but was not able to.

As noted, the information in the current page is also not referenced. What is the best way to handle this?

In addition, is there a good source for answers to questions like this or generally a guide for people, like me, with experience editing occasionally over the years but not educated about nuances or tools that might make editing easier. Jreiss17 (talk) 14:24, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jreiss, and welcome to the Teahouse. If the location cannot be sourced by a reliable soruce (which in this case would not need to be indepedent) then it should be removed. ColinFine (talk) 14:50, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure. This may be a WP:BLUESKY situation that doesn't need sourcing. The coordinate location of a radio station is verifiable by anyone with a smartphone GPS who goes to the station to verify its coordinates. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:56, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Probably stupid question. How do you know where to go to do so, if you don't already know the coordinate location of the transmitter? {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.199.210.77 (talk) 16:46, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You call, or go to the radio station's physical office address and ask them where you can have a look at the transmitter, if it's in a different location than the radio station. The verifiability burden isn't much different from going to a library to look up a book. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:09, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Editing a template

Hello! I have found a spelling error in a template (Quotation Templates) and I want to be certain about how to fix this before I go ahead. I think that I can fix the text in "Template:Quotation_templates"; then it says something about updating the documentation. What are any special things I need to know before making a change to a template? Jkgree (talk) 16:01, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If it was the spelling of "separate" (a common error) I've fixed it. There is nothing special about that sort of tweak. Shantavira|feed me 16:34, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jkgree, thanks for spotting that error! To give you a more generalized answer, template editing can be tricky because a given template will have lots of uses, and you'll want to make sure your change doesn't break any of them. You can use the option at the bottom of the edit window to preview pages that use the template, and you can also use the template sandbox. When you do something like introduce a new parameter, you always want to update the documentation associated with the template, in this case at Template:Quotation templates/doc. But just fixing a typo doesn't change anything functionally, so there's no need to change the documentation. Hope that helps! Template editing can be a fun and highly impactful task once you get the hang of it. Cheers, {{u|Sdkb}}talk 06:04, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Maor. If you're even considering the possibility of paying for this, it is worth warning you that there are many people out there offering to creating a Wikipedia "profile" (there is no such thing, by the way) for money. Some of them may be honest, and tell you up front that they are required to declare their status as paid editors, and that they cannot guarantee that they can get an article about you accepted, or that if one is accepted it will say what you would like it to say. Many are scams. ColinFine (talk) 18:45, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Maor, you seem to have a misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is. This is not a website where people tell of their own qualifications and accomplishments. That's what social media is for. This is an encyclopedia that is concerned with what third parties say about a topic, not what it wants to say about itself, and not merely documenting its existence. There are criteria for inclusion, called notability. 331dot (talk) 19:28, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@G20norms, looking at WP:RS/PS, The Times of India is not so great. The others are not listed there, but our Hindustan Times and India Today articles seem to indicate they would be okay. I don't know what you mean by "Hindustan" and "Pm India office" - presumably the latter is the Prime Minister's office? If so, that would be an official government source and (generally - not always) reliable. Note that sources also need to be independent and secondary, and contain significant coverage of the subject. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 19:47, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Pm meant by Prime Minister office and "The Times of India" is not reliable sources? Hindustan is very popular hindi news platform. G20norms (talk) 20:19, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@G20norms, ah, you mean Hindustan (newspaper). Our article on that one isn't very good, unfortunately, so I can't say much about it. And yes, The Times of India has been discussed several times and judged to have a reliability between no consensus and generally unreliable - see WP:TOI, where there is an explanation and links to the various discussions. Also, if you look at this part of WP:RS/PS, you'll see a search box which will let you search through past discussions, in case you want to check whether a certain source has come up for debate before. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 20:34, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And one more question i have, how can i unprotect any article from protected article G20norms (talk) 21:05, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@G20norms, you will need to make a request here. Be sure to read and follow the instructions. Note that a request to unprotect Ankit Kumar Pandey was made just yesterday and declined (here). 199.208.172.35 (talk) 21:09, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear teahouse,
Is this article draft:Ankit Kumar Pandey had any issues with citation or language tone i know you only guide please help once . G20norms (talk) 21:39, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@G20norms, yes, it has several issues. Ravensfire pointed out some of them for you over on Materialscientist's talk page. For instance, the first 5 sources are not about Ankit Kumar Pandey; much of the information does not have supporting inline citations; and the language tends toward the promotional. Also, I'm not sure that this person is notable, but that's going to depend on the strength of those last three sources. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 21:49, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Same topic news articles from different different channels are accepted as inline citation G20norms (talk) 22:00, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
G20norms if you are talking about WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, this isn't really a valid argument. Other than references, you need to trim the external links section, WP:TWITTER, WP:FACEBOOK, WP:INSTAGRAM. Remove caps from section titles, making them sentence case, and put citations at the end of sentences and after punctuation (WP:REFPUNCT). Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:52, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Sungodtemple,
Overall i have to remove caption from the image and remove External link but dear i had one question i read most of Biography they added External so please tell me my coding of the External link are wrong ot i have to remove it. G20norms (talk) 09:02, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:REFPUNCT reads: All ref tags should immediately follow the text to which the footnote applies, with no intervening space. [Their emphasis] (sometimes at the end of a sentence or paragraph, sometimes mid-sentence). Ref tags should be after most punctuation.
Re. external links: Exceptions are sometimes made for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Regular websites are strongly preferred, but exceptions are made for official links when the subject of the article has no other Web presence. Does that mean picking one of the social media sites above, or allowing all three? Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 09:25, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't understand i have to remove provided External links all three? but understood that if article had no any web references then wikipedia consider External links like facebook, instagram or twitter. G20norms (talk) 10:10, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure whether you can have all three social media links (as an exception, since he has no web site) or only one, so I pose that question to other editors here. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 10:47, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the headings from title case to sentence case, and punctuation before reference. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 09:32, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You changed the title case to sentence before reference or i have to do it in draft:Ankit Kumar Pandey G20norms (talk) 10:08, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
G20norms, I've changed the headings to "Sentence case" from "Title Case", so you don't have to. I've also changed the punctuation, and made a few minor changes to the references. You can now see the changes.
There are some big gaps where text is not referenced.
(By the way, I've wikilinked some of the work entries in the references to show that they have Wikipedia articles. I've noticed two or three times with other drafts that reviewers sometimes assume that Indian or Oriental media are less noteworthy than (say) European or US media). Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 10:15, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
so can we now that article draft:Ankit Kumar Pandey is completely ok or we have to work on it for more accuracy or we can allow him for draft review submission G20norms (talk) 10:43, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Let's see what other editors here have to say now. Is the article ready for review? Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 10:49, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Overall currently it's in under updation it's not ready for review? G20norms (talk) 10:51, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The "Early life and background" section is unsourced. If you can't find a biography to use as a reference, you may have to first delete some or all of this section. I'm sure in the coming months, the subject will get more coverage in the media. But let's wait a while and see what other editors here now think of the draft. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 11:03, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you either add sources to "Early life and background" or delete that whole section, you could (if you wish, and if you feel ready, and want to go ahead), submit the draft for review, and then see what the reviewer and other commentators have to say. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 11:09, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please if i have to add only mother's name father's name and siblings or if we had no any reference about them so how can we add them without reference. G20norms (talk) 11:29, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have deleted the "Early life and background" section. All significant, and especially personal, facts in biographies of living persons need to be sourced or removed. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 12:37, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So now the rest of article is well according to provide sources what's your opinion on it as an editor? G20norms (talk) 12:40, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But news platform like The Times of India, Hindustan times, Hindustan (newspaper), India today are good platforms G20norms (talk) 10:56, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree. They are reliable sources. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 11:03, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In the above discussion sungodtemple mentioned to trim External links whats your opinion on it G20norms (talk) 11:08, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See my answer above. Forget about changing the External links for now. This is not a "dealbreaker". There is an exception for external links for people who have no regular web site, but it's unclear whether that means you can keep all three links to social media, or only one of them. As I said above (and I've now deleted the unsourced section containing personal details), if you really want to go ahead, then submit the article for review and see what the reviewer and any commentators have to say. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 12:41, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, there's some notability concerns. There are three sources that mention Pandey and all three are about the same thing - being named ambassador for the fit india program. Even in those sources, it's more fluff coverage than significant coverage. I'd really, really like to see more sources about Pandey. DOB still isn't sourced. Given the history (and the SPI mentioned below), there's a very strong feel of WP:UPE/WP:COI editing here. Ravensfire (talk) 14:57, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple Users on Draft Article?

FULL DISCLOSURE: Truly inexperienced Wiki user here. My question: can another wiki user/friend collaborate with me while the article is in the Draft stage? If so, after they login with their own credentials how do they find my Draft “Maddy Walsh” article and get the keys to edit with my permission. ~~ Maybe the other way to ask the question is: can just any Wiki user work on my Draft anytime? ~~ Moxy Rock (talk) 21:25, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Moxy Rock, welcome to the Teahouse. To answer your last question first - yes. Anyone can work on any draft. Just give them a link to it - for instance, Draft:Maddy Walsh or Maddy Walsh. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 21:26, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Moxy Rock:, I don't know how this looks on all interfaces, but if I click in the search box at the top of a Wikipedia article, a "Search" button appears. If I click on this, it takes me to the advanced search page, where it is possible to select in which parts of Wikipedia you are searching. Here, you can select that you want to search in drafts, so it is possible to find other people's drafts. In fact it's a good idea to do this before starting a new article, because it might be that someone else has already started writing something very similar. Collaboration often makes things better. Biden assassination attempt article?

Somebody should create an article about the guy who crashed his U Haul truck near the White House and tried to kill the US President Joe Biden

https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/23/politics/dc-uhaul-crash-charges/index.html Onion1981 (talk) 04:39, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Onion1981: Somebody might, if the event meets the criteria for a stand alone article (WP:NEVENT). Otherwise it may end up as part of the article on Joe Biden. RudolfRed (talk) 04:44, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To me, it looks like a minor triviality at this point. but future coverage may justify an attempt to create an article. ~~\\

Retired SME and COI

I'm a subject matter expert, retired several years ago, and I'm a beginner here. Decades back, I was entangled in the controversial stuff that made my field what it is today. I was a moderately big fish in a very small pond, and at various times I worked with competing parties on all sides. At this time and for close to 10 years, however, I have had no financial interest in the subject, the various issues have all played out, and in my heart I have reached a point of equanimity. I'd like to dig in and edit/create some articles that I'm uniquely able to craft--but if I have to declare COI and ask for help posting every sentence I write then the process will be very inefficient. Does the WP definition allow my COI to "age out," or am I cursed forever to {{request edit}} every addition and correction I post? LeggyLettuce (talk) 05:27, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@LeggyLettuce: Welcome, and thanks for wanting to expand and improve the encyclopedia. If you are no longer in a position that would be a conflict of interest, such as a financial relationship with the subject, then you should be fine to create and edit articles. What does "create some articles that I'm uniquely able to craft" mean? Any article you create must be supported by what reliable sources say and not by your personal experience or expertise. RudolfRed (talk) 05:33, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, @RudolfRed, and I appreciate your point about reliable sources. What I meant was that existing articles in my field have inaccurate paragraphs about technical things that are probably a nuisance for other folks to write, sandwiched between better-crafted sections on what we might consider the "cool stuff." As a subject expert, I'll have a much easier time than others fixing those technical bits. And I am pretty confident about which poorly-sourced topics and historic figures will met criteria as "notable" enough for new articles, because I have mentored and written about them before. LeggyLettuce (talk) 06:04, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi LeggyLettuce. You might want to take a look at WP:EXPERT since it covers users such as yourself. The thing to remember is that while your expertise is valued (or at least should be valued), it will not give you any sort of editorial control over the articles you edit. You will still be expected to follow relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines just like everyone else. This could mean that in some cases consensus might go against you no matter how right you know you are. As long as you don't start trying to use your expertise as a way of arguing that you know better than anyone else and that others should defer to you, you should be OK. Finally, you might want to consider looking to see whether they are any WikiProjects that cover the subjects you're interested in. WikiProjects are good places to find others with similar interests and also perhaps who are also "content experts". They also can be good places to learn how things are done on Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:44, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding, @Marchjuly. I did not know about WP:EXPERT; thank you for that suggestion! And yeah, I get what you're saying about (I'll paraphrase) not getting all bossy about being the expert. Fortunately for everyone concerned, decades of university teaching do tend to grind off the sharper edges of one's ego, and offspring file down anything remaining after that. Interestingly enough, the WikiProjects topics closest to my heart are well populated with complementary souls; but I have not yet spotted any that align directly with me--ergo, I think, the alternating paragraph situation I mentioned previously. Maybe I have found a niche--fingers crossed. LeggyLettuce (talk) 07:02, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone here review my drafts?

Draft:Martin Lefebvre & Draft:Dylan Fabre. I'd like any comments on how to imrpove them and you could maybe fix possible mistakes and typos i make. --Cheers! Kilaseell - Message me! - 06:18, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kilaseel. Since both your drafts are about hockey players, you might get some good advice from the members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey since that's where you're likely to find Wikipedia users who have experience working on such articles. At first glance, the drafts look OK to me. I would remove the flag icon from the infobox of the Fabre draft per MOS:INFOBOXFLAG and perhaps try and figure out a better way to incorporate the in-body image in the Fabre draft, but the formatting of both otherwise looks OK (at least to me). Maybe some other cleanup per MOS:NUMERAL as well. None of the things I've mentioned, however, will have any impact on whether either draft is accepted as an article. One important thing to rememeber is WP:OVERCOME, particularly since the notability sub-guideline for athletes recently underwent a pretty thourough revision and is stricter than it perhaps prevoiously was. Whether either of these two players meet that guideline would be a good think to ask the members of WikiProject Hockey about. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:34, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to Kiss the band

(edit conflict) @Seaparrot876 By creating a wikilink like Kiss (band). There are various tricks described at WP:LINK which explain how to do this so that the link is simpler visually to the reader, as in Kiss, but goes to the correct article, not, for example Kiss. Drafting an article

hello! tried to publish my first article and got rejected... anyone able to help? article is: Draft:Roger Starr JcwDenno (talk) 11:35, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, JcwDenno and welcome to the Teahouse.Try to find at least three independent, secondary, reliable sources that cover the subject in-depth, to show notability. See the golden rule. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 11:42, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thank for for this, will refer to the golden rule like a new bible ! JcwDenno (talk) 11:44, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
JcwDenno, as the decline message says, This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. The New York Times ones are not independent, since Starr worked for the New York Times. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 11:43, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thank you for this, silly old me did not realise, still getting the hang of all this JcwDenno (talk) 11:44, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JcwDenno Note that they may still have use as sources, but may not help in the WP:N sense. Try archive.org, google isn't great with old stuff, but things like [8] can still pop up. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:03, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JcwDenno A simple Google search shows that Starr wrote extensively, so some valid sources would be reviews of his work. I used The Wikipedia Library (which, unfortunately you do not yet qualify to join) to find some. I'll post the ones that seem to me to be most useful into the draft or its Talk Page when I get time later.... Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:52, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JcwDenno As I suspected, there are heaps of good independent references that will easily take Starr to adequate notability. I've added a few to the draft and you could access them to expand the limited text I've already included. If you can't reach the original sources then contact me by email (via my Userpage) and I'll send you the .pdfs, which for copyright reasons I can't post here. Hi, G20norms. See your open question, Biography article above. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 13:03, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you're confused and need a TL;DR ("too long; didn't read") response, I would say: All significant, and especially personal details need to be either sourced or removed. So I removed the "Early life and background" section. Forget about the External links for now. If the subject has no web site presence, exceptions can be made to link to social media sites instead, but it's unclear whether that means that all three sites can remain or if you need to pick one. This is not a "dealbreaker", however, and that can be sorted out later by you or other editors.
If you really want to go ahead, then click the big blue button labelled "Submit the draft for review!" and follow the instructions. Then wait patiently, and see what the reviewer and any other commentators have to say. If necessary, come back here to The Teahouse for further advice. TeddXhika Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. What help are you looking for? You have already resubmitted the draft and the reviewer will leave you feedback, as a previous reviewer did.
You say this is "for" the musician. What is your association with them? 331dot (talk) 15:02, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is little to no chance your draft will be accepted in its current state. Your first citation is to a Google search: your job as editor is to evaluate whether any of the Google hits can be used as sources meeting Wikipedia's golden rules and if so to paraphrase them and cite them in detail. The other sources do not seem to be WP:independent of TEDD and as such do not demonstrate he is notable in the way we define that. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:06, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@TeddXhika, do you know this artist personally? You have apparently taken a very close-up picture of them. You may need to review our guideline on editing with a conflict of interest - WP:COI. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:09, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ayyyple2, welcome back. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:15, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
