Text and/or other creative content from this version of Kia Motors Europe was copied or moved into Kia Motors with this edit. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists. |
Referencing
- today few points about refs (for future PR and FAC4, which will be at some point, and just describing how everything's done)
- They should be done with {{cite web}} or simlilar templates;
- In titles, the words should be written as a piece of usual text. If it is a the first word after a — or : , then it is capitalized. The system is a general observation for science literature (as compared to the cheap detectives). Singular deviations found in fact are omitted here for standardization.
- Access dates are done in DD MMMMMMM YYYY format.
- Page ranges are standardized to the full page number standard, 4326—4384 rather than the last two digit standard, such as 4326—84. There's no need to conserve space, and we can use the more eye-friendly system (you can see the second number all at once without having to search for its beginning)
- Will add more when something comes to mind. I'm not adding a timestamp to make sure this text will not be archived. If a bot does so, please remove it.
Removed text unrelated to article.

The logo appears clearly as ΚΙΛ... That would be pronounced as KILL... Should the page be moved to "Kill Motors", since Unicode article titles don't work on the English Wikipædia?
I wonder if any of their customers know both the Greek alphabet and English..? Κσυπ Cyp 06:03, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)
While appearing as such, the Logo's really just a stylied 'KIA'. MardukZero 18:20, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
KIA means 'rising asia'
content from KIA
This was in the article KIA. Maybe some of this can be incorporated here? Rvollmert 12:34, 2004 Aug 28 (UTC)
- KIA motors was found in 1944 as an industry of bicycle parts manufactures in Seoul, south Korea. KIA took its current name 1951 (from earlier name Kyungsung Precision Industry).
- KIA produced Korea's first bicycle 1951, first motor cycle 1961, first truck 1962, first gasoline engine in 1973, and October 1974 country's first motor car, Brisa. KIA was taken over by Hyundai Business Group in 1998.
Stub?
Is this article still short enough to be considered a stub? Most stubs are far shorter than this.

Does Kia Motors Europe really have a website?? I think someone just assumed that address is legit.
Hyundai Automotive Group is not a parent company of Kia Motors Corporation(KMC). In fact, no such company exists. Hyundai Motor Company(HMC) and its affiliates including KMC are collectively called Hyundai Automotive Group. Detailed information on the relationships of the Group companies are available on the Hyundai Motor investor relations website.

Acronym
I always thought KIA was an acronym. Korean International Automobiles. 67.188.172.165 18:32, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- That is incorrect.
- The word Kia has origins in the Chinese language.
- ki is Chinese for "arise or come up out of" and the a stands for Asia. So Kia means to "arise or come up out of Asia".
Kia is a Korean word and doesn't come from the Chinese language. The Korean language is from Korea and has its own alphabet (26 characters).
- It would be more correct to say that the name comes from Chinese characters, namely hanja, not from the Chinese language as that term is normally understood. The pronunciations gi/ki and a are specific to the Korean language. See wikt:起, wikt:亞 -- Visviva 11:44, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- That may be. But Chinese characters can be called the Chinese language. It's the written language.
- In any case, that is Kia's own definition of their own name so it must be the correct one when referring to Kia Motors.
- Furthermore, "rising up" could just as easily be translated to mean "rebirth". It is derived so it does not have to be a literal translation!
"martial arts term"
the statement about "ki" also having a different meaning as a "martial arts term" is irrelevant here. "ki" is simply a latinization/transliteration. just because it happens to share a tranliteration with a totally different word, should not merit any significance here.
Peugeot 604 and Fiat 132
What about the licensed manufacture of Peugeot 604 and Fiat 132? Did that really happen? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dieselnutjob (talk • contribs) 18:07, 23 April 2007 (UTC).
Made in North Korea?!
According to Carfax, my Kia Rio was manufactured in "KOREA, DEMOCRATIC PE". Is this a mistake, or do they really have plants north of the border? Mtford 01:42, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Almost certainly a data-entry error. Not everybody knows which one is the "Republic" and which one is the "Democratic People's Republic." -- Visviva 04:54, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hyundai/Kia do not have plant in north korea. hyundai/kia totally irrelevant to north korea. Also, Hyundai Group and Hyundai motor company are NOT same company. Kia is a part of Hyundai Kia Automotive Group. Hyundaiboy 09:18, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
No Kia is made in North Korea
Kia made in North Korea is DEFINITELY a mistake. There is ABSOLUTELY no Kia made in North Korean until now (2007). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Buhin (talk • contribs) 18:35, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

Kia Motors → Kia – WP:COMMONNAME. Given that Kia redirects here, very few people refer to Kia as Kia Motors, and that neither is the full company name, I don't see why the Motors disambiguator is required. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 15:28, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

- Comment Kia should redirect to KIA (disambiguation) -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 05:35, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- No, it shouldn't. If that was to happen, we'd be moving the disambiguation over to Kia, and there is a clear commonname argument for Kia pointing here. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 10:43, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Support as per most other car brands. OSX (talk • contributions) 11:54, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose proposed moved
per the precedence set in Ford Motor Company, Hyundai Motor Company, etc., given that this article is about the company and not the brand (Toyota is the only exception I can find right now.)Weak support Kia Motors Corporation as mentioned above as this being the company's name. Steel1943 (talk) 15:21, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- These are not precedents, but more like excepts to the rule. Almost every other brand is referred to by the WP:Common name: Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, and Mazda, Holden, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Daihatsu. The only reason Ford and Hyundai are not at their common name is because there are other uses for the names "Ford" and "Hyundai". "Kia" redirects to Kia Motors anyway, so there is no other significant use for "Kia". OSX (talk • contributions) 08:15, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, Ford redirects to Ford Motor Company, so that page should be moved as well (it's something I've already looked at, but I decided to run this RM first to establish a bit more of a precedent on a page where I view there to be less argument against the move.) The comparison to Hyundai here by Steel1943 is not a fair one; the Hyundai article contains information on the former parent company of Hyundai Motor Company. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 09:47, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Due to this information, I've struck out part of my statement. Steel1943 (talk) 14:18, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

- Oppose: This company is definitely not the primary topic for the word "kia". See Kia (disambiguation). Sawol (talk) 04:58, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose due to ambiguity, per Sawol. Noted earlier comments re: "clear commonname argument for Kia pointing here", "no other significant use for 'Kia'", but I'm not sure it is that clear, and a case could be made that Kia should be the dab page. – Wdchk (talk) 14:09, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Kia Motors → Kia – The company just recently had dropped the 'Motors' from its name, to just Kia Corporation or simply Kia.[1] Andra Febrian (talk) 08:16, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- See KIA for a long list of other meanings. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:15, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- Currently Kia (disambiguation) redirects to KIA, and it seems to me that it should be the other way around. 162.208.168.92 (talk) 17:08, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- Curiously enough, Kia redirects to Kia Motors. Andra Febrian (talk) 09:23, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- Support, because, as Andra Febrian says, "Kia" (lower case) already redirects here anyway, and Kia the car manufacturer seems the most relevant, source-covered topic for the name (i.e. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC). The only usage it may contend with it's "Killed in action" as it's a widely used abbreviation, although it may be kept at "KIA" (upper case). If the move proposal fails, I think the article should be moved to "Kia (company)".
- There are no more complications that I can think of, as it seems non-controversial at first glance, because Kia was already a WP:COMMONNAME for the car manufacturer, at least in English-speaking countries. --Urbanoc (talk) 12:21, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

- Support – I notice the only other subject specifically called "Kia" is "Kia (magic)", and even though I am not a big fan of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, this clearly takes precedence over the other subject, so if this fails I would support "Kia (company)" as well. JE98 (talk) 16:34, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

"Stylised as ΚΙΛ" removed
I've removed the section claiming the name is "stylised as ΚΙΛ". There's a difference between stylisations which are used in textual form and those which are merely graphical flourishes or font choices.
I've never seen any reputable source refer to the company as "ΚΙΛ" (i.e. using lambda in place of "A") in purely textual form.
It's rather obviously meant to be a graphically stylised letter "A" and as per MoS: Trademarks: Indicating stylizations:-
- [We conventionally add "stylized as" for] the stylized version (which may include simple stylization, like capitalization changes, decorative characters, or superscripting, but not [..] attempts to emulate font choices, or other elaborate effects).
This falls into the latter category, so it was removed.

Service relating customer quarries
Sir, We own a kia sonet vehicle purchased just 8 months back. On 10th December my wife was in Bangalore along with my daughter in law travelling in our kia car. The driver was Mr. T. Satyanarayana driving in Hosur road in Bangalore. Suddenly an Auto Rickshaw over took our car from left side hitting in the front corner on the left side and ran away. A message to this effect has been sent to the kia showroom in Kadapa where the vehicle was purchased. And on 12 the December we have handed over the car in the show room at Kadapa. In turn they took the vehicle to Tirupati show room and today the service personal are attending to it. My request is, we are senior citizens both husband and wife age 72 and 64 respectively. We are suffering from multiple health problems .We need the vehicle for commuting to the hospitals and other essential works. The accident occurred on 10th Dec, it was handed over to the KIA showroom on 12 the , today it is 18th and the repair work didn't bigun . No doubt that kia is an excellent vehicle , however the service seems to be very poor. Especially for the senior citizens this experience is really hard to digest . Request you to attend the work of the senior citizens with courtesy and promptness. Thank you, Thodime Malla Reddy. For. Sangireddy Uma Devi.
