One major selling point of the S-MAX is its "FoldFlatSystem". This design allows the second and third-row seats to fold flat into the floor. The small third row leads Ford to classify the vehicle as a "5+2", meaning that the rear seats are only for occasional use, and are a no cost delete option, replaced with a sliding cargo tray. In countries other than the U.K. the third row seats are a "Cost" option, as is the sliding cargo tray.

The Ford S-MAX is a large MPV produced by the Ford Motor Company for the European and by Chang'an Ford Automobile Co., Ltd for Chinese (Mainland) market. Introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the S-MAX went on sale alongside the redesigned Galaxy in June 2006. It is intended as a "sporty" alternative to the traditional MPV, and slots between the seven-seater large MPV Galaxy and compact MPV Focus C-MAX. The S-MAX was voted European Car of the Year 2007 on November 13, 2006 narrowly beating the Opel Corsa by 2 points and the Citroën C4 Picasso. The S-MAX will be rebadged and sold in Japan by Mazda.[citation needed]

Features

The S-MAX is the first vehicle to feature Ford's Kinetic design styling. A replacement for the New Edge design started in the late 1990s, kinetic design debuted with the Ford SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) concept car at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show and on which the S-MAX is based. It includes angular headlights, a narrow grille, side air vents and large trapezoidal "mouth" below the bumper.

There are three versions of the S-Max, Ambiente, Trend, and the high-end Titanium.
