2024 in fiction
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (2002–2003): the Laughing Man incident occurs.
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ("Past Tense" 1995):
- Apathy about the well-being of the homeless leads to the establishment of "Sanctuary Districts", essentially prisons for those who are unable to find or hold a job. By 2024, every major city in the United States has such a district, as do many others around the world. In what will come to be known as Bell Riots, a group of homeless people in San Francisco overthrow the supervisors in their sanctuary district and take several hostages. Thanks to the efforts of one Gabriel Bell, none of the hostages are harmed; however, Bell is killed during a subsequent police raid on the district. His death leads to increased public awareness and the Bell Riots become one of the watershed events of the 21st century, ultimately leading to the foundation of the United Federation of Planets in 2161.
- By 2024 Europe is in a state of political turmoil, with many wealthy individuals cancelling trips due to student protests and other upheavals. The episode makes reference to at least two movements involved, the neo-Trotskyists and Gaullists. The United States remains comparatively tranquil, but due to the Bell Riots and other events, a similar state will soon occur there as well.
- Star Trek: The Next Generation ("The High Ground," 1990): According to Data, the reunification of Ireland in 2024 is achieved through terrorism.
- Yes, Prime Minister: The diaries of the Right Honourable James Hacker are published.
- Homer and Marge Simpson are about to enter their 50th High School reunion but Homer has a plunger stuck to his head from The Simpsons episode The Front
- The video game Frontlines: Fuel of War for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC is set in 2024, in which the United States and Europe fight Russia and China over depleting supplies of oil.
- The film Highlander II: The Quickening is set in 2024.
- Authority One takes place in December, 2024.
