Jokes to help spruce up your user page

Q: How did the fetus cross the road? A: In the fat man's stomach.

Q: What is crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside? A: A frozen fetus.

I hope these delightful snippets of humorous finesse help to improve the general atmosphere of your otherwise dreadfully boring user page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Solid278 (talkcontribs) 20:46, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Hi Jon. Thanks for taking the speedy delete tag of OUWS. I know there's still work to be done, but it makes me feel like I'm getting somewhere! Edfitz (talk) 20:16, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks so much for that info, and for retrieving my articel, it is VERY helpful. I will take some time to write the article properly this time.

Also, could you please tell me how I add that stats box to the right in an article, Ive seen them on others, its a table with a photo in and stats listed below? I am not too well up on code really.

Thanks!

I will do more research, but you asked for magazines and competition wins? I have read about other models that are similar to Saffron Taylor on Wikipedia and they are listed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Creativeenterprises (talkcontribs) 21:24, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shavuot and Pentecost

Jon, you are of course perfectly right about Shavuot, but rereading closely you'll find that my correction referred not to it but the Christian feast of Pentecost, which, being the fiftieth day after Easter Sunday, does indeed always fall on a Monday. Commemorating it on the Sunday before began in those countries where the Monday is not a public holiday, but even in Germany, where it is, the fact tends to become forgotten and the day treated like a public holiday after the feast day, as Boxing Day and Easter Monday are. This does not really need to be part of an article about a Jewish feast, but if mentioned at all, it should at least be described correctly. Bostanai

Hi. I don't want to get into an edit war. This guy reverted my edit saying I didn't phrase my source properly or something, his comment was a bit brief for me. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bostanai&diff=182698893&oldid=182692748 Can you please put my edit back, and phrase it right? Thanks. -Nach 89.138.192.76 (talk) 18:59, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Capital Punishment

I remember I brought this up with you almost a year ago. I finally decided to bite the bullet as they say and post some of those lists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporal_punishment_(Judaism) and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Corporal_punishment_(Judaism)

Can you look it over and wikize it or whatever? I'm not sure what to link where. And as I said, we need to describe the punishments better. 89.138.192.76 (talk) 23:23, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Joke to brighten up your life

  • Q: What do the Misrad HaChutz and Misrad HaPnim have in common?
  • A: They're both Chutzpanim.

Also stop by my house, I have another check for you. -Nach 89.138.192.76 (talk) 23:25, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wal-Mart (disambiguation)

All through this process, there may be others who are for or against this article based on what they have read others wite about. At the same time, a single user, Derek Cashman, seems determined to kill a Wal-Mart disambiguation page out, perhaps out of a personal distaste for one. He just says he is firm and will not budge on it otherwise. Wikipedians are supposed to improve, NOT destroy Wikipedia. A Wikipedia page is only supposed to be deleted only if it is not notable or otherwise seriously inappropriate. The general practice is that when there is any doubt, the page is kept.Shaliya waya (talk) 01:51, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Idea for Talmud articles

Hi Jon513: I am reposting the following request from User Sh76us (talk · contribs) on my user talk page for wider notification:

I was thinking of trying to stimulate development of a series of articles on Gemara concepts and doctrines, maybe to help children or newcomers to Gemara with explanations of some fundamental concepts that recur throughout the Gemara. Some examples might be articles on Yiush, Chazakah, Ta'aninun (as in "Ta'aninun L'Yoresh"), Eidim Zomemin (forgive my awful transliterations), Migu, etc., etc. Maybe we could even create a category or subcategory for it. I created Breira in this vein. As I don't have the experience or expertise in Wikipedia to know what to do to best develop this idea, I figured I'd come to you for your opinions on: (1) whether it's a good idea; and (2) How to best go about implementing it. Thanks Sh76us (talk) 15:56, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User page edit

No problem -- thanks for the link! I can't take credit for the vandalism detection links -- I copied them from someone else's page.  :) NawlinWiki (talk) 18:41, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for Welcome

I would like to thank you for the Welcome, I would suggest to delete the evil phothos from the WikiProject Judaism, I think it is a Chilul Hashem (Almost forgot you don't like to speak Yeshivish) - Thanks. Wikiplantjud (talk) 17:42, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The editor continues to restore the inappropriate source. WP:3RR does not apply to vandalism reverts. In your opinion, is restoring sources counter to wikipedia policy considered vandalism? I think so, but I want to get another opinion first. Thanks, Jon. -- Avi (talk) 18:05, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now he is adding http://www.jewishtribalreview.org. I think there may be grounds for either blocking the editor or protecting the page or both. -- Avi (talk) 18:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Adding bad sources it not exactly vandalism and I don't think it is worth getting into a dispute on an article which is nominated for deletion. Your removal of sources (even bad sources) may be viewed as a bad faith attempt to sabotage an article you nominated for deletion. I recommend that you just ignore it, if the article survives AfD it can be dealt with then. Jon513 (talk) 18:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish Mythology

This is supposedly an article for project Judaism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_mythology It seems to be a collection of half a dozen people saying what they believe Jews believe. I have no idea what to make of it. Some of what they say Jews believe, is most certainly of Christian origin. Any chance this can be deleted or cleaned up or something? I have to go vomit. hi jon513 am not really understanding why my articles are deleted,am new to wikipedia, can u give some guidences of which type of articles are accepted in wikipedia

Deletion

Hi, I wasn't sure what was going on there. Was doing some new page patrolling and came across those two editors. The articles they were creating didn't look notable, and some seemed to be spam. It also turns out they were copyvios too. There is a possibility that there is sockpuppetry going on, which I have reported. It wasn't immediately apparent that an article about a film was being created either. Mjroots (talk) 13:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Ice Age 3

Thanks for letting me know. My perspective was that the same AFD applied because the film still has not been produced all this time. The IMDb page even says it's merely "Announced". I suppose a fresh AFD would be best here, citing the notability guidelines for future films (which wasn't around back then). If I start a new AFD, do I rename it with (second nomination) at the end? Or move the existing discussion to /Archive 1? —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:37, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problematic new Christian/Jewish template

Hi Jon513: Please see the discussions at Template talk:Books of the Bible concerning the new troubled and troubling {{Books of the Bible}} template. Your attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 05:29, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources and notability added

Hi Jon513: Shavua Tov: I have spent some time improving the two articles currently up for deletion. The Adas Israel Congregation and Adath Jeshurun Congregation articles, now renamed Adas Israel Congregation (Duluth) and Adath Jeshurun Congregation (Minnetonka) to differentiate them from other similar sounding congregations elsewhere, are now a full articles. They meet all criteria for such articles. I also wish to point out that this is proof of what can and should be done to improve stubs. Merely because someone has started a stub does not mean that the article of a place/person/event are "not notable" since not all people have the time and capability of working to improve such articles. There is no statute of limitations on how long a stub deemed to be significant can exist and it is certainly no reason to invoke reasons to eliminate them, otherwise why do we have stubs in the first place? It is requested that the nominations be withdrawn! Please look into this. Sincerely, IZAK (talk) 11:10, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up with creator of Minnesota synagogues stubs

Hi Jon513: You may be interested to know that I have contacted User Grika (talk · contribs) who was the editor who originally created all the stub articles about synagogues in Minnesota that have now become the focal point of much debate, and he, as creator of the stubs has neither responded, participated nor defended himself in any discussions AFAIK. Please see User talk:Grika#Requesting your attention. Feel free to add your comments. Thanks, IZAK (talk) 09:45, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can has thankspam?

PS: You were right about being clear re whether I'm male or female! The line clarifying this was rather small and hidden away. Actually I always used to have a photo of my bearded self on my user page, to avoid all confusion - I've now restored this, so hopefully no-one will ever be in doubt again! Question about deletion

Hi I wanted to know did u delete Lori Cotler's page? If so why did u have it deleted for copyright infringement? Please get back to me on this issue because I would like to resolve the problem. There was no rules or laws broke in the process of making that page. I'm her personal assistnat and everything on that page was done by a professional writer and edited by me and the writer.

Hope to talk with you soon Thanks -CC my username is Lccc84 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lccc84 (talkcontribs) 02:16, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My RfB

I wanted to personally thank you, Jon, for your support in my recent RfB. I am thankful and appreciative that you feel that I am worthy of the trust the community requires of its bureaucrats, and I hope to continue to behave in a way that maintains your trust in me and my actions. I have heard the community's voice that they require more of a presence at RfA's of prospective bureaucrats, and I will do my best over the near future to demonstrate such a presence and allow the community to see my philosophy and practices in action. I hope I can continue to count on your support when I decide to once again undergo an RfB. If you have any suggestions, comments, or constructive criticisms, please let me know via talkpage or e-mail. Thank you again. -- Avi (talk) 16:19, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re: shane macdougall article

hey jon - fyi i didn't put up the original article but since it's there i've definitely got an interest in seeing it be maintained properly... dunno how that makes it a conflict of interest - it may be but the article is pretty neutral, no? —Preceding unsigned comment added by A1amoeba (talkcontribs) 02:18, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
